I stayed away from this place for a year because they have a buffet (typically a sign of cheap pizza.) My bad.

The owner came out and spoke with us and honestly wanted feedback on the pizzas for the buffet. There were so many different ones and the place was packed. I mentioned i was just a pepperoni lover so was a little disappointed the pepperoni was gone by the time i got mine, but it was okay because the selection was huge. He apologized and went back to the kitchen. About 5 minutes later he brought out a pepperoni pizza... and as i was leaving he handed me another pepperoni pizza in a togo box for free. The service is phenomenal. I didnt even mention the quality of pizza which is really good. By far my favorite hole in the wall pizza stop. Will drive from OP just to eat there. read more

We finally made our way to Pizza West, and I'm glad we did. We were welcomed in as soon as we entered. The space is fun and eclectic. I liked the lamps hanging upside down over the booths, and some booths had a personal TV in them. The decor was unique with those lamps, a couple pews in the entrance in the event you have to wait on a table, and the walls were adorned with the art posters of Leonetto Cappiello. Throw in some pinball machines in the back room, a white sheet of paper covering the table with some crayons for the kiddos (or adults), and you have a fun family restaurant. We started out with some Cheesy Twists. It was a good portion at a good price. We took about half of it home. Two dipping sauces come with it. It was a tasty starter. We also went with a one time visit to the salad bar. You can get endless trips if you want. Everything was fresh and the salad bar was in good order. No messy droppings like you see at other places. For the main, I went with a 5" Thin Lizzy. They make all their sauces in house, and you can tell. There's no straight from a bottle or can taste. They use good cheese too. That was one of the first things I tasted, good flavor. The crust was thin as ordered, but I would have liked a bit more crispness to it. I like a good snap to my thin crust. They have a pretty good selection of beers here. They don't have anything on tap, but that was no biggie. You can go straight from the bottle, or they'll be happy to bring you a chilled glass. They have wine as well, but I didn't check out the offerings. Service was excellent from start to finish. Our server was very attentive, pleasant, and just down right friendly. She gave us the low down on everything, and answered any questions that we had. There wasn't any "I don't know, let me go ask" with her. They have daily specials, as well as a buffet on certain days/times. I can't remember the specifics, so call ahead. I'm not big on buffets, but I hear they're a hit here. So whether I give one a go, or just stick with the menu, I think I'll be in good shape either way. They have a limited delivery radius and they also cater. Service was OK, pizza was OK. I'm not a big fan of a lot of crust on a pizza, not their fault, mine for not knowing before we came.

We were there after a soccer game with a group of approximately 30 on a Th night 6:30pm. Food was hot & fresh. Wings were best I've ever had anywhere, awesome unique wing sauce. The first time I had food from here it was for a company meeting and my boss ordered it for us. He got us the mac n cheese pizza (which was a first for me) , the hula and margarita. Each pie was absolutely delicious and Im generally picky and the choices they have helped me branch out of my comfort zone with great pleasure. Yes, I know, another pizza review from me. Hey, go with what you know. I had read and heard some good things about Pizza West (formerly Double Dino's) in western Shawnee, so I made it a point to get out and try it. We walked in early on a Friday evening. Some carry-outs were going on, but the place was not even close to full. We noticed some of their booths had small TV's (SureWest cable) so we sat down in one and looked over the menu. I had heard Pizza West had a braided crust similar to Pyramid Pizza in Lawrence or Beau Jo's in Colorado, so I decided we would hit them with two 11" pizzas: 1 with Italian sausage and mushrooms and the other with Canadian bacon and pineapple. We also chose 1 trip to the salad bar. The salad bar was rather minimal and seemed to cater to the "if you really want a salad, okay here's all you get" crowd. Not much in choice of toppings or dressings (not even carrots, tomatos or bleu cheese dressing), but all the ingredients did look fresh and their croutons appeared to be homemade. They also offered a soup of the day, which my wife was interested in trying the next time we are there. The pizzas came out in about 15 minutes. Business had noticeably picked up as we waited and our pizzas were brought to our table. Overall I found the pizza to be fairly good. The outer cornicione of the crust is definitely that thicker, braided variety. Although it was similar to Pyramid, this is not the same dough formula that Pyramid uses. The crust was a little more cooked, not quite as chewy (lower gluten flower?), and perhaps just a tad less flavor than what I remember about Pyramid Pizza. But it was still good, nonetheless. The sauce was minimal and again not like most other pizzas I can recall, but still good. The cheese was plentiful and the toppings were good. It was definitely filling. We had to take about 1/2 our pizzas home. Pizza West also has a party room area for things like birthdays and such. They apparently do delivery, although I only saw one vehicle, but that may have been for catering. Our waitress provided good service. She was very attentive with refilling our drinks. And having the little TV at the table was a nice touch to keep up on what the weather was doing and entertaining our daughter. Overall, I'd say Pizza West has a pretty good thing going and is definitely above average. IMO, their pizza isn't great but it is good and better than the last place I took the family to. I would have no qualms about coming back to Pizza West, even if it is out of my way. read more

Dave and Cory (the two brothers/owners) of Pizza West pour a lot of time and love into making this place the best suburban pizza joint (floating in a sea of competition) in the metro area. Pizza West is a gem of a restaurant located on (you guessed it) the west side of town. It's located in an unassuming strip mall off of the highway. Blink and you'll miss it -- but, oh man, DON'T BLINK! This place offers a fantastic buffet. Don't see what you like, ask a member of the staff and your favorite will be made to order and added to the buffet's offerings in no time. Fantastic salad bar. Soups, croutons made from scratch! The pizza, however, is the star here. Many different styles of crust (my favorite is the place's rolled crust -- holy cow, is this stuff addictive). Amazing, from-scratch sauces -- ranging from traditional marinara, alfredo, adobo, barbecue and even pesto. Toppings are fresh, flavorful. I personally love to walk in and see what these amazing brothers are experimenting with. The pizza of the day is often unique and whimsical. Mashed potatoes and cheese on a pizza? -- yes, please! Macaroni and cheese pizza with alfredo sauce and topped with cheddar? Absolutely! The pasta sides are great as well -- my son loves the grown up mac and cheese. Home delivery is prompt, drivers are friendly (heck, half of the time its one of the owners). Dessert offerings are a special treat at our house: add some to your order, you won't regret it. As I wrap this up, I'd like to add that brothers Cory and Dave clearly have a passion for good food and great service. Their heart is in this place, and it truly shows. They are frequently out in the front of the house, unobtrusively mingling with guests, querying about favorite flavors, etc. They'll even host kids in the kitchen on select mornings to teach them how to make pizza! They are the soul of Pizza West, and we're so happy to see them succeed. Go give this place a whirl -- especially if you're sold on Minsky's and the like. You'll never regret it! read more

Being a gluttonous pizza eater, I am a sucker for a pizza buffet, and Pizza West's is tops in my book. While the pizza here is great, it is the service and the friendliness of all of the staff that makes it stand out. Both times I have been here the cook (possibly the owner?) actually poked his head out and asked if I was enjoying everything and if I had any special requests I would like to see on the buffet. The pizza here is great. To me, the core differentiator of pizza is the crust (Aside from the cheese -- toppings are toppings), and Pizza West has an amazing handmade crust. The only thing better than the pizza were their cheese twists. They were an absolutely amazing appetizer. read more

The pizza here is very good. BUT the most outstanding thing about it is the fact that they make everything from scratch there. Sauces, salad dressings, everything. The owners are 2 brothers who are very serious about the quality of their food, and they are both very friendly and want feedback. Their pizza is great. I love the buffet (fuck yeah!) because you can try all the different kinds of pizza. My fave there is the veggie (has sunflower seeds on it!) and the Margarita. Give this place a shot. My two favorite pizzas are the Clear Creek Carnivore, A real Mans pizza..Hamburger, Canadian bacon, Italian sausage, pork sausage, pepperoni, & hickory bacon. It has a rolled crust that can hold up to the weight of all that meat.. Nice and filling, not a flimsy pie...It's a daily, fresh-made dough for A crust...A true flavorful, hold the toppings kind of crust.. Not the Airy, poofy proofed, topping slider, kinda crust.. 2nd, is the Hot Hula La..Pineapple, Canadian bacon, fresh spinach, red onion, and hickory bacon over zesty adobo sauce.. A true Gourmet Pizza.. with that sweet pineapple, hot Adobe sauce,, bacon flavor in every bite.. The fresh spinach is a nice touch on that pie.. a must-try, for pizza connoisseurs.. Pizza West has a nice ambience & decor.. Adults wishing to talk and eat should sit closer to the front entrance.. as the back room is kid friendly.. Too much dough. Not a fan of this pizza joint like some people. I got to try a variety but I think I'm used to my stone - cooked oven pizza. The waiter is super awesome, friendly and patient (considering there are kids running wild). I live in Chicago but was visiting my parents for the weekend who happen to live 2 minutes away from Pizza West- being from a "foodie" city and a small business owner myself, I'm very picky with family owned business costumer service and quality of food. I have to say that I was VERY impressed by Pizza West's costumer service and DELICIOUS pizza. The place is great! I love how much attention to detail they put into their decoration, services, and taste. One thing I don't like is that they are so far away from me... Updating my review after many many more visits to PW. The star at Pizza West are truly their custom pies. The brothers do a great job of creating delicious combinations of toppings that pack a ton of flavor. PW never skimps on toppings like some other local options and the quality of their product is remarkably consistent. I've never had a burned or under-cooked crust, uneven toppings or anything else. It's always good pizza at a good price. Their buffet is always a good value and they stock it with specialty pies as well; it's an excellent way to taste some of their creations. My personal favorite is the "Masterpizza" with BBQ sauce, Pineapple, jalapeño and bacon. PW also does a fantastic job with their little-known soups and house-made salad dressings. Their blue cheese dressing has become a staple in our home. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the rotating selection of pinball machines are some of the best ever built and in fantastic condition. Recommended. read more

We live five minutes away and love this place. I wasn't sure at first because it looked like a little hole in the wall. But I was so pleasantly surprised by how fresh and delicious their food is. It's affordable and perfect. I love that they have TV's in some booths (to help distract my toddler). Their crust is amazing and different and seriously awesome.
