In town for week and staying in Carmel, I saw that this place had a Crab Rangoon pizza, so I was immediately sold. I ordered before I left, made it to the store almost exactly at my pick up time, and they were just about to get my pizza out of the oven, so it was only a couple minute wait. Then I just had to wait to get back to where I'm staying to dig in. My car was filled with the smell of delicious pizza. It was definitely worth the stop. I had both garlic/cheesy breadsticks and the Crab Rangoon pizza. I thought both were very good, though I will say that if you visit, you should go with the most adventurous option. To me, the price was worth what I got, but if you get something basic that you can get literally anywhere, you should probably go elsewhere instead. Pizza Uncommon is an Indiana based restaurant that started in West Lafayette. This location in Westfield is the first in the Indy area, so I was excited to give them a try. They offer upscale pizza and ice cream with vegan and gluten free options. All the ingredients are fresh in the gelato, which is made in-house. They also serve local craft beer from Field Brewery. The menu is complex with a number of artsy pizza options. Zach, our server, explained the pizza options and made recommendations. He was welcoming, friendly and attentive. We ordered a 10" Shitaki Mushroom Truffle pie. The 10 inch was plenty for two people because the toppings go all the way to the edge. The garlic sauce is strong which we loved, loved, loved. The pizza is unique with a ton of great flavors. I liked the crust because it wasn't real thick, but was still soft. We also each had a small gelato, after Zach described the all natural ingredients. I had the Indy Coffee Cold Brew gelato which is made from locally roasted coffee. The rich flavor was the BEST coffee flavor ice cream I've ever had. I could live off that gelato. My husband had the Honey Roasted Strawberry gelato, at Zach's recommendation. The gelato was bursting with strawberry flavor. They may have ruined me for other gelatos. The dining room is open and airy with colorful murals. The bench seating is a little uncomfortable. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall lot, including accessible space. Can honestly say that this might be our go to spot! Hearing they had GF options and all sorts of variety, our family of 4 drove to their location (old Rail spot) The interior is basically the same, walk up to the counter, order your food and then they bring it out to you. Their drinks are not name brand soft drinks but there are healthier alternatives and teas. They also have an ice cream station that caters to special diets for lactose intolerance. Recommend the pesto chicken lemon pizza! Kid approved too! It's nice to have an instore dining place but with more variety! It's the modern way to make pizza! This was a fun experience. Snag a table when you walk in, it was busy and only so many large tables if you are with a group. They have a menu on the wall, or paper menus you can grab and bring back to the table to review. The pizza choices were "uncommon" and interesting combinations. The new fad is hot honey, and they had a pizza that featured hot honey, jalepenos and meat; made my son happy. I am a Hawaiian pizza lover, and they had a sweet baby rays, pineapple and ham called the "Sweet Chick", that was delicious. The cheesy garlic breadsticks were where it's at, three of us shared an order of 8. Don't skimp on the breadsticks. I loved their choice to provide a Maine Root soda machine that provided drinks with organic cane sugar. The unisex bathrooms are clean. They have plenty of boxes sitting out at stations so you can take your food home. They share a building with Uncommon Gelato. The flavors for Gelato were also "uncommon". Our server let us sample a few o before we purchased. They had a basic sea salt- olive oil flavor and also a Ritz Bitz cracker that tasted like peanut butter and cheese crackers. Pizza uncommon had delicious pizza, a clean interior and a kind cash register. All of the food we had was delicious, but the wait was awful. While there were multiple pickup orders, only 2 tables were full. One of them was ours. We waited 50 minutes for our 2 pizzas only to not get our breadsticks for another 15 minutes along with all of our dipping sauces. We had to ask for those as they had been forgotten. The workers would just not make eye contact with us and go about their day. We even said excuse me multiple times to a woman who glanced and kept walking toward the kitchen. Boilermakers should be rejoicing, because Pizza Uncommon (a West Lafayette pizza joint) is now here in Indy. Well, Westfield. I don't know what the Purdue-adjacent Pizza Uncommon is like, but this one is new and still has few kinks to work out. First, the positives. The pizza is excellent, though a bit pricey: $17 for a 10-inch. Mamma mia! But Pizza Uncommon stone-fires their pizzas, and they offer a lot of unusual flavors that I've never or rarely seen on a pizza, like honey blackberry, crab rangoon and salted burrata. They also have lots of vegan pizza options, if you're into that sort of thing. We got the lemon pepper bianca (olive oil, basil, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, salt, pepper and a lemon wedge that you squeeze over it). I'm still dreaming about this pizza, and I think I'm going to have to go back and get one to smash all by myself. I never would have thought that lemon juice would be great on a pizza, but it all comes together and makes sense once you taste it. This is a delightful pie. We also got the hot honey pepperoni, and my kids really liked this one. It's not spicy at all, and the honey adds a nice sweetness. The pepperoni they use on this one are the mini pepperoni that curl into cups and hold little puddles of pepperoni grease. I love these kinds of pepperoni because I love a greasy slice of pepperoni pizza. Alright, so the pizza is poppin' off. But I mentioned that they're working out some kinks here, and the biggest one is the wait. Be prepared to wait at least an hour if you visit in person! I placed my to-go order online, and I still had to wait 20 minutes beyond my pickup time. As I waited, the restaurant began filling up with people and the line to order started getting longer. The place was packed. I saw people wanting to dine in being told that it would be an hour wait, then an hour and twenty minutes, then they just stopped taking orders. They also stopped taking phone orders. This was on a Saturday at dinnertime, which is obviously one of the busiest times. I'm thinking this is something that will improve over time, so if you want to visit during these early days, bring your patience. Pizza Uncommon also has a cute ice cream shop inside the restaurant (well, it's gelato, so gelataria?), and they offer vegan and regular flavors of gelato. Shout it from the mountain top ! THE "MEAT MONSTER" pizza is the Greatest Of All Pizza. Now if I had said it was the "GOAP" you wouldn't know what I was talking about. The Monster Meat pizza comes with pepperoni, homemade sausage, Virginia ham, and bacon. The sour dough pizza crust is perfect and they are very generous with the toppings. There's many choices of pizza combinations to pick from on the menu and you can also build your own. The restaurant is new, very clean, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They also have an ice cream section off to the side in the store. I had the Cold Brew Coffee flavor. It was ok, but I've had better at other ice cream shops. Come early for dinner because there's a crowd and the tables fill up quickly. Pizza Uncommon has only been open for a few days in Westfield. Overall, I think they're still suffering from some initial growing/opening pains. Food: The Vodka Sausage pizza was very good - lots of flavor. But, the actual quantity of sausage was a little low. Service: We arrived as a party of four at 6pm on a Saturday, so I expected a crowd. What I didn't expect was a brawl. By some miracle, we found a 4-seat table, which was filthy and hadn't been cleaned (I cleaned it). Lots of food debris and napkins all over the floor. They told us it would be an hour and a half to get our food. ?!?!!? Say what? They over-delivered and only took an hour and ten minutes, but clearly the kitchen doesn't have its act together. Ambiance: They basically just repurposed the former Rail restaurant's layout and furniture, which was always weird and had a ton of wasted space. There is a "bar" area right in the middle of what could be a larger dining area, and they're just using it for pizza box storage (while people are competing for tables). I guess this is what you get when a college town pizza joint comes to your hometown. You feel like maybe the kids are the ones running the place (?). I do hold out hope for this place. It was nice to walk in and see the familiar setup from the restaurant that was there previously. This is a very nice addition to the area. Their pizzas and ingredients are quality and I had to admire their options for the vegan/dairy free crowd, with vegan pizza and dairy-free gelato options. I tried their vegetarian pesto burrata pizza and it was great. There was burrata on every slice, and the pesto wasn't too strong. Pizza crust was baked well. The breadsticks were highly recommended by others and I could see why. The jalapeño cheese breadsticks, were amazing. I could even order the plain breadsticks and still be just as happy. The dough is great. Not heavy, with a good chew. Almost like a light focaccia. It tasted different from the pizza dough, or maybe it is the same, just different preparation/bake time. I tried two flavors of their dairy-free gelato and it was creamy goodness: Indie Cold Brew Coffee and Salted Pistachio. This was the best combination of flavors. The pistachio was pretty sweet. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I like coffee flavored things, and I like how both flavors balanced each other out, when combined in a single cup. They have some seriously good pizza here! The crust has a perfect crunch to chew ratio. My husband and I each got a pizza of our own but tried each others. He had the vodka sausage and I tried the sausage pesto. The flavor combination on the sausage pesto was great. The pesto was bright and flavorful and I loved the addition of the hot honey. My husband enjoyed the vodka sausage. It had a nice kick. While I was picking our pizzas up, I went ahead and tried some of their house made gelato. I tried the blueberry poppyseed and it was delicious. We ordered ahead several hours in advance and it was hot and ready when I arrived at my scheduled time. The interior was bright and clean. We were at the hibachi restaurant next door, decided to get some desserts. This place also have a creamery shop which they have some unique flavors. I ordered the Madagascar Dark Chocolate size small & their small was super small. Their small cost $6. The counter guy scooped into a small bowl & then smash it down so the lid would fit which on their website, it looks like they heap over the top so not happy with the quantity of it. I've been having pizza uncommon the last 4 years since I was at Purdue. Graduating and not having a close location was heart breaking. When Westfield opened up I was worried the quality wouldn't be the same but they knocked it OUT OF THIS WORLD! The best pizza! I've lived in Italy and this is my only pizza restaurant I will go to in Indiana. It has the perfect crisp of a crust and the flavor is spectacular. They did seem pretty overwhelmed when we went on a Tuesday night - had to wait for clean plates, no clean knives, and wait time was pretty long. I'll chalk that up to still working the kinks out.
