And I thought this was just a little pizza joint across from REI.... I was really surprised at how much it looked like a fine dining establishment rather than a place to grab a slice for lunch. The owner kept trying to join in the conversation which was slightly awkward, but I know the hearts in the right place. Yes! Yes, Anchorage! THIS is what I've been wanting! Every pizza I've had in Anchorage was 'good' or 'ok'. I mean, it's pizza, I'm happy to have it no matter the quality. But Pizza Olympia puts them all to SHAME. I mean it! Moose's Tooth has nothing on this place (lose the corn meal, MT). This is the first pizza I've had here that made me smile and say 'Yes!'. After a disappointing call to Hearth that yielded no pizza, a quick google search for 'pizza spenard' provided the name and number of this fine establishment. The first two times I ate at Pizza Olympia it was okay. I enjoyed sitting in the quiet booths and I didn't mind the slower service because we were not in any hurry. The food was not stand-out exceptional, but it was satisfactory. The third time, however, I took a friend from out-of-town, and it was a disaster. After ordering, our dinner did not arrive for at least 45 minutes! The steak I ordered was terrible, with large chunks of tough gristle. My friend's dinner was average; not worth such a long wait. For the price, to me it isn't worth the risk of another meal like that so I've never returned. read more

Ordered the chicken/lemon soup, very little flavor and extremely bland, no lemon in the soup at all. We also ordered a cheese pizza and Greek spaghetti. Both were at best average, not sure if they have new cooks but all the food had very little if any seasoning. Was there about a year ago and the food was wonderful. I've eaten here for over 20 years. When I was young, the owner always greeted my mother like family. I stopped going for a few years only because I moved to the east side. However recently my mother asked to go here for her birthday. The owner remembered her. That was touching. The food is consistent here. Really good Italian and Greek options. A very nice dining room, intimate. It's family run so it always has a warm vibe to it, and the staff treats you warmly too. The pizza is really good too, but I like coming here for a pasta and wine, a nice romantic, quiet meal with my lady friend. Puts us both in the mood. I forget the name of it, but there's an appetizer that is a hot cheese plate with a splash of brandy that they light on fire at your table. Gotta have that. It's amazing. Just run it off the next day. I hadn't gone her I about 5 years largely because we moved to the east side and I just stopped thinking of it. This is a place that when I desire the food it also includes the dining in experience, it fills the heart and soul as well as the stomach. That's probably why I kinda forgot about it, we typically got take out when we ordered pasta. But since rediscovering it recently, my girlfriend and I made up our minds to eat here more often. She likes the shrimp dishes and I like to bounce around the menu. The Pistasicio(not sure on spelling) is really good, like macaroni on steroids, with ground beef, spices, baked on cheese. Yummmm They have their own personal twist on pasta sauce, just a touch of sweetness. Might throw you off at first but once adjusted, it's excellent. Just remember, the food comes out piping hot. So when they set that baked on cheese down in front of you, be careful. Your momentary lack of self control could get your mouth hot!!! Loved coming for dinner here. The staff was really welcoming and even the founder came by and greeted us. I felt like I was a lost cousin welcomed into a family reunion. Check this place out. I ate here for the first time last night with a friend of mine and we had a lovely experience. The food was good and I will be back to try more. I would recommend this place to my friends to check out. They have a patio that was too shady last night to be comfortable but nice and sunny at lunch I bet. The service was great. The women who took care of us was one of the owners and she was very friendly and helpful. She made several recommendations which were delicious. I had the Moussaka and it wasn't the best I've had but it was tasty all the same. My friend had grilled meat on a skewer and it was also tasty. Go try it I think you'll be pleased. read more

Difficult to rate, but to summarize: Pretty good food (some was very good) but overshadowed by inaccurate and incredibly SLOW service. I just took a small group (seven total) to lunch as a going away gift for a coworker and even though I called ahead and the table was ready for us when we arrived (and no one was in the restaurant besides us) it took nearly AN HOUR to actually get our food after ordering. By then we needed it packed immediately to go. We were then informed by the presumed owner (an older European sounding woman) that everything is made from scratch so next time we should order ahead, but that she appreciates our business. Puzzled as to why the restaurant offers sit-down service with no sort of disclaimer about the length of time you should expect to wait, we left with our hastily packaged to-go bag and assorted wrapped gyros. When we returned to the office to then eat at our desks we discovered that the order was inaccurate and a couple people had to eat something completely different than what was ordered. For what it's worth, the gyro is excellent but probably not worth the wait. Instead of enjoying a fun goodbye lunch with our friend we were forced to sit hungrily and anxiously before rushing out the door with a weird, "it's your fault for not knowing better" attitude from the owner. The food is delicious and this family-run business is a joy to frequent. I felt so very welcomed -- everyone in my family felt personally appreciated! The mushroom appetizer is now my favorite food and the same mushroom/onion/spice heavenly mix is in the vegetarian gyro too. SO tasty! This is a celiac-friendly restaurant. The food is good, the service is very slow, and deliveries are slower. But if you are in the market for some good Greek Food, and have the time to wait, then by all means try it. Yikes! I went here for the first time this week and tried the gyro. Instead of a traditional gyro, the gyro was served on focaccia style bread with bland tzatziki and one sliver of onion and tomato. It was flavorless to say the least - not to mention the hair I found in it. Would not recommend and will not be going back. Oh, and it took almost 1.5 hours to get our food, eat and pay.. I have traveled Greece, spent a ton of time in Italy and am Lebanese by origin. I know a thing or two about mediterranean food, especially good food, 5 star food. The Maroudes Family has their recipes locked and loaded with fresh flavor, every single dish that comes out of their kitchen is literally made for you at the moment they receive your order. Only the soup (amazing lemon, chicken rice, from scratch, nothing is purchased in bulk) and the Baklava are made ahead, once a week, so both of those are always fresh. They source their vegetables locally. They have gluten free options. But I have to tell you that I have watched many of their dishes made (I have snuck into the kitchen to say "hi" and am mesmerized by the attention to detail, the careful, thoughtful seasoning and the manner in which the meals are plated, and this is a top-flight establishment. It is literally one of two restaurants that have survived and flourished in Anchorage since the pandemic began and there is a reason for that. The owners, the entire family, is hands-on. So do yourself a favor and continue to support them because the food is worth the price of leaving your home for a dinner at Pizza Olympia. Hands down, a 5 star experience. read more

I STRUGGLE with giving these guys a 3. I want to give them a 2.5. The food is good. It's higher quality than a lot of other pizzerias and they are about the only "Greek" styled joint in town besides Little Italy. But I sit here waiting for a delivery order that was supposed to be here an hour ago. AN HOUR AGO. And it wasn't complicated - it was a Greek salad for Ch+*$t's sake. I also didn't want to bring it up, but the last time I ordered a gyro from them, I bit into a plastic "ring". The thing that comes off any plastic bottle when it's newly opened. I didn't want to go there....but I just did. The truth is, I set the plastic aside and ate the gyro anyway. I just wish these guys upped the ante a few notches. Stopped in last Friday for lunch. The place wasn't crowded, but I think they might be busy with call-in/delivery service during that time frame. We got there around 1130 and were promptly seated and had our orders (2) taken about 10 minutes later. My chicken parmesan and my co-worker's medium pizza hit the table about 25 minutes later. Both were pretty good. If you have only one hour for lunch call it in. If you're not in a hurry this is a pretty good place with plenty of parking at the rear of the building. read more

We order the 18" pizza and the Greek salad here for takeout. The flavor is exactly as we remember from the east coast- Greek Pizza sauce is to die for, in our opinion. We order the classic Lancaster County pizza- green pepper, onion, and mushroom most times. This time he got sausage on his half and green pepper on both. We try to forgo the salad- but never do. The olives and mild yellow papers with a fresh vinaigrette is a childhood favorite of mine.- the first salad I ever had back in 1968. On times when we dine-in we order the Peroni beer with our pizza and talk to "Mama". Such a taste of home!!!! read more

Pizza Olympia has been around for ages. It's right across the street from REI and I would see it whenever I was in the area. For my birthday, I was in need of something that would appease the masses and still appeal to me. After my initial restaurant was closed the day I thought of Pizza Olympia. I made the reservation. The lady I spoke to was seriously Greek, and so sweet. We had a group of six which they easily accommodated. There is parking in front and in the rear. If you look head on, it looks like there's no parking, but just go around the side if its busy. From the time we entered, we were seriously being catered to. The hard part was that I had to act like a translator for my family because of the heavy Greek accent. Why do I understand? I have no clue, but it works. I go the baked ravioli which was great. My mom got the greek lasagne, which she raved about. My dad got the greek steak which had whole cloves of garlic through it (yeah, he was happy!), and seriously I forgot what everyone else had. My dad asked for horseradish, which they didn't understand what he was asking for. The lovely lady came up with three different sauces to see if anything would suffice for him. We have never had anybody go so out of their way to make sure that he was satisfied. Even without the horseradish, he was good to go. For dessert, they brought out spumoni with a sparkler for me, which was soo good!! And then they brought out some seriously good baklava, which is my husbands favorite dessert. I know that the owners of this restaurant help with the Greek festival here in town, and I do not know if they make the baklava for the festival, but this was even better. The lady that I spoke to for our reservation came by our table a couple of times and made sure that everything was perfect. In a whole, this family made me question why I stopped coming to this place. So good food, great service, good atmosphere. Not the place to go if you need to be on a strict diet, but maybe your day off for the week. Did I mention it was worth it? Oh yeah!! read more

Worst lunch experience ever! I ordered a Greek salad with out onions. It took 30 mins to make, when I asked if there was onions they took it to the back, for another 10 mins. I'm guessing they fished onions out of the salad, cause it was still full of onions and the lettuce was withered and the dressing was all over the bottom of the bag. The restaurant was not busy, they had one customer eating at a table. I had to save the salad to return after work for a refund. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, VERY SHADY!!! read more
