Best gyros in Anchorage... by far. Quick lunch spot in downtown. Italian sub sandwich and meatball sub are favorites.

Gyros were small, pricey, and so so. I would expect to pay maybe $7, but still be disappointed

Roscoe and his wife were super friendly and didn't mind our toddler being a toddler since we were the only ones there.

This place is an absolute gem!…read more We came here today and everything was phenomenal. The gyro was perfect, the potatoes and salad were delicious, and the custard dessert was out of this world. The service here is outstanding. It feels like getting lunch or dinner from your own Greek Papou. They are incredibly generous and welcoming, which makes the whole experience so special. To the people complaining about the prices: anyone who's been in Alaska knows that sourcing and buying quality food here is expensive for both restaurants and customers. The prices here are VERY fair for the quality and portion sizes you get. Yes, the restaurant is obviously small and tucked away in a little aged strip mall, but that is part of its charm. If you want authentic, incredible Greek food made with love, come here. Tip: If seating is tight, just get it to-go! We will absolutely be back.

As we were driving by, we noticed Antonio's and decided to stop in. From the outside--and even when we first walked in--the place was completely unassuming. To be candid, it looked a little worn around the edges. If you're someone who judges a restaurant by its appearance, you might keep driving. That would be a mistake. What followed was one of the culinary highlights of our entire trip to Alaska. We ordered a couple of items, but the owner insisted we try several additional dishes. As vegetarians, we're often limited when exploring new cuisines, but not here. Every plate that arrived was fresh, flavorful, and made with obvious care. The experience was a revelation. It made me realize that I've probably never had authentic Greek food before. The Greek dishes I've had from chain restaurants, food courts, and grocery store offerings don't even belong in the same conversation. The ingredients tasted fresher, the flavors were more vibrant, and every bite felt like it came from a family recipe rather than a corporate kitchen. What elevated the meal even further was the owner himself. He spent time talking with us, sharing how he ended up in Alaska and telling stories about his journey. It felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's home. I've traveled extensively and eaten at restaurants across the country, and I can confidently say Anchorage is fortunate to have a place like this. Antonio's isn't just a restaurant--it's the kind of hidden gem that deserves national attention. Frankly, it belongs on a travel or food television show. If you're in Anchorage, do yourself a favor: ignore appearances, walk through the door, and trust the food.

The family that owns and operates this gem is Greek and they are not only amazing cooks, but they care about their community!! I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food. You will always be greeted by a smiling face, and treated like family. You will not regret stopping here. I've eaten the Meatball sub, The Philly, the lasagna and The Gyro ( lamb and chicken) all have been 10 out of 10. The ambiance is like a neighborhood dinner with a small dining room. You will love it!

I ordered the BLT and had the chicken lemon soup The soup was very lemony and salty but I ate the whole bowl it was pretty good. The BLT had too much lettuce on it and a couple pieces of bacon but it was your standard white bread-mayo- bacon-lettuce-tomato. Prices not bad when the sandwiches come with soup or salad. Nice quaint family run local restaurant. I would try the Alfredo next time assuming they make the sauce in house?

However, the vegetarian menu is the reason why I chose Oasis over many others around Anchorage when I arrived. Many restaurants' vegetarian/vegan options are limited consisting of bar foods like vegan burgers, French fries, salads and fried pickles that are high in salt and greasy high fats. This place is completely different; for instance, the bowls and wraps section, which you can customize with optional brown rice, quinoa, flatbread, or tortilla. I chose the Vegan High-Protein bowl and quinoa. The tofu was soft and flavorful, and the hummus was perfectly complementary. The star was the in-house salad dressing, which I can't remember what was in it and what its name was, but it was green, tangy and phenomenal. The food was so good that I returned on Saturday, and there was no drop-off in flavor and service. This place is highly recommended, and whenever I'm back in Anchorage, I would definitely be returning.

Organic Oasis had some great reviews and the two in my party were semi-vegetarians. There were 6 other people in the room. The menu was well laid out and had great options for the meat challenged. We ordered our lunch at 1130. We were served water and then we waited... and waited. At 1230, we debated on leaving when I finally asked the hostess if she knew how much longer it would be, her response was curt and short, "they just started it." We thought it was odd that with so few in the room, the meal was just started nearly an hour after ordering. At 1250 the meal arrived. We had ordered the protein plate, a Thai salad and a turkey sandwich. The protein plate had an unseasoned burger patty that was crispy on the outside and raw on the inside and the steamed vegetables were barely cooked with the carrots still having the peels on them, the Thai plate had zero sauce. The turkey sandwich was exceptional, I opted for no cheese and added avocado. At 115, I went to the counter and the hostess looked very weary and asked what I wanted when the phone rang. She picked it up and immediately hung it back up without answering, then took the receiver off the phone. I said I would like to pay my bill. At this point, the hostess turned to the waiter who had been waiting on us saying, "these are yours." Three meals, only the sandwich was edible, came to $75. Wow. We were hoping that someone was just having a bad day, but seeing other reviews, our experience was similar to others. Will not be going back.
