A day out in Carpentaria means you gotta get a pizza by the beach, right? For us, we go out to fill our bellies with food before sipping our adult beverages later in the day. We felt welcome in Pizza Man Dan's as it looked inviting. It was kind of like a Shakey's but we wanted to give it a shot since Rusty's looked packed. Clean restaurant and great customer service, but that didn't help the food. Although it looked great online, we were pretty disappointed. I felt that the pizza wasn't fantastic but it wasn't terrible it was just okay. We got a half and half pizza for the two of us. Although the barbecue chicken pizza with jalapeños was pretty good, the supreme pizza was just alright. Nothing too crazy but it was packed with toppings which is why we didn't feel it was bad. The potato wedges were chunky and soft. It was underwhelming not to chomp into a crispy exterior with a fluffy inside. These had a "from freezer, to microwave" consistency. Super oily too and for the price, the amount you get was not worth it. We did only spend a couple of minutes deciding where to eat, but if we were to go back, we'd probably choose another pizza spot entirely. Must be hard to compete for pizza place market share in a tiny town like Carpinteria but it's clear Dan's strategy is service. Pizza, salad and soda all great but Friday night's late Fall service deserves honorable mention and recognition. Firstly, my order was taken with accuracy and attention. Was already willing to throw a couple bucks tip but no digital option for that. Young man at the counter let me know he greatly appreciated the sentiment none the less. Impressive. After experiencing an epic journey across their vast landscape of salad bar spread, I was posted up at one of their 2 touch screen soda taps when I heard my name called letting me know my pizza was ready. I was still at the soda tap vacillating between another 6 ounces of Vanilla Cream or maybe Orange when the same young man working the register came all the way over to make sure I had heard my pizza was ready. That's when I started to realize I definitely made the right choice coming to Pizza Man Dan's tonight. As with any great story we experienced a great ending after my niece's greasy fingers and waxed cup turned into ice on the floor. Food was very good and arrived sooner than expected. Only complaints are they did not bring paper plates, napkins or utensils. To be fair we forgot to request these items, but assumed they'd be included as they were delivering to a hotel. They have a large back patio for outdoor dining and with the cool Carp weather, it was the perfect place for dinner. The pizza was really hot. I felt the toppings were very generous. My 19 yr old son got the Meatsa pizza and I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ one. Oh man, never could I have imagined chorizo and BBQ chicken could pair so nicely with Ham and pineapple. It was amazing. Much more flavorful than the meatsa one (I had a slice of my son's) and honestly I just wanted more of the Hawaiian BBQ. My son thinks pineapple on pizza is a horrible concept but he tried it and he said it was good too! Highly recommend getting Pan style crust over the thin. We didn't get any thin but saw another table with thin and it just didn't look as good as ours did. This place reminds me of Pizza Factory only I think it's better. Yes, this place offers GF options This place is great! We were "roughing it" at the campgrounds at Carpinteria SB, and the first time we went, we noticed that there were pizzas being delivered everyday that we were there. So we promised ourselves the next time we would camp, we would order pizza, so that's what we did! When it was dinner time, we called the 800 number and a gentleman picked up and grabbed our order. We were having issues with the communication since even though cell service with AT&T is at 3 bars, I guess I was still breaking up at some points. But anyway, told them I was at the State Beach and told them our campground space. Sure enough, in about 20 minutes, the pizza man was here. Pizza and wings were piping hot (Pizzaman Dan's is literally 5m away from the SB). Great pizza. We got the pan pizza. Topping were a bit sparse (nothing out of the ordinary compared to Pizza Hut or Domino's), but the cheese was very cheesy.
