I came in with my husband to pick up a pizza and my cashier was a guy with brown hair and a hat, he felt extremely unprofessional, didn't smile, barely said hello and overall just made me and my husband feel not welcome. Pretty sure I just witnessed a major health code violation. Regulars here and came to pick up food and saw a male worker breaking up the shredded mozzarella that's in a large bucket/container with his bare hands. The major problem is that he has hair on his arms and the back of his hands which are then undoubtedly touching the cheese. We love this place. The food is great and the employees are kind. Update- visited the Carpinteria store today, first time in about 20 years. They had relocated to a different location. Ordered takeout. My family and I went to Giovannis for dinner today. My husband witnessed the cooks were not wearing gloves. He saw one of the cooks pour BBQ sauce on the pizza then licked his fingers and continued making the pizza. We also saw cooks on their phones texting then returning to cook the food without washing their hands. We have always loved this pizza place but we are now absolutely disgusted and will never return. My husband, daughter and I were on a road trip for the 4th of July weekend, hoping for some foster's freeze but unfortunately as we arrived it was a pizza place and not the foster's freeze we wanted. I had a disappointing experience at Giovanni's Pizza in Carpinteria. The restaurant did not appear clean, which made the visit uncomfortable from the start. I also ordered the chicken sandwich, and the chicken seemed undercooked and not prepared properly. Overall, the cleanliness and food quality were both concerning. I hope management addresses these issues to improve the experience for future customers, but I won't be visiting this place again. read more

Went here with my girlfriend while we were down at the beach. We both ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with no chicken. Now I'm sure the pizza here is really great but the Fettuccine was not. The pasta was probably not cooked long enough as it was too tough. The biggest problem was the amount of sauce I was given. It was almost an Alfredo soup. My girlfriend's dish did not look like that so I do not know what happened in the kitchen. The garlic bread was really good and at least I had some soup to dip it in. I was in a hurry so I crossed the street from Rusty's to see if Giovanni's sells slices. They said yes. They suggested the combination of slice, salad and soda and I said OK. It took quite a while to get the food even though no one else was there. But that wasn't the main problem. The main problem was the food. Food is a matter of taste. This did not match my taste at all. The pizza was on thick bread and I prefer thin. It was laden thick with cheese. That slice was probably a full day's worth of calories. The "salad" was lettuce and raw onions piled with more cheese. Another full day's worth of calories. I scraped off as much of the cheese as I could but it was still pretty awful. Maybe some people would like this food, but I am not coming back. Rusty's is so much better. I should have just done the Rusty's salad bar. Even if I got an individual pizza at Rusty's it would have taken the same amount of time. And it would have tasted good and not been an insane load of calories. We ordered the Giovanni's special which has tons of toppings, both meat and veggies: onions, bell peppers, ham, olives, mushrooms, sausage and meatballs. The only complaint and minus a star was because the sausages were a bit undercooked. After waiting over an hour for pizza all the sausages were a bit pink inside. My family of 4 had been going to Giovanni's on a regular basis for almost 2 years, pretty much weekly. So much so when my husband called they knew who he was and his order. Being a strict vegetarian for 25 years, I am limited on what I can order, so I would get the fettuccini or the eggplant parmesan, and a small salad. The food is good and we like that they are open till 9 pm, but after tonights experience with their customer service, my family will never be ordering form there ever again. My husband placed a phone order tonight for the eggplant parmesan and he was standing right next to me, so I am a witness to his placing the order. Within 5 minutes he went to go pick it up like usual, and when it came to opening my order I noticed there was chicken in it! We called right away as it was an obvious mistake, only to be greeted with a rude and sassy girl named Cassandra, who proceeded to gaslight us and say that's what we ordered. She did not back down on her version of events, even though I know there is no way he would ever even mention chicken in an order! She wanted us to repay for another order as she claimed that is what we ordered, and she was adamant we were in the wrong. I can guarantee that is not the case, but wouldn't it make sense to take care of a long term customer? I told her how upset I was and that we would never be going again, she only had attitude in return. I know it was 100 percent their mistake, and even if she didn't hear the order right, she should have done the right thing. I feel like remaking one $20 pasta dish is not worth losing a long time paying customer, and they did. read more
