We were BLOWN AWAY by the number of college students, dressed in their Sunday's best, openly praying over their food before enjoying some awesome chicken. It was SO NICE TO SEE! We ordered a family meal (20 pieces), 2 sides of fries and a chicken sandwich meal. We paid around $40. Great value! The food came out quick and arrived hot and fresh. I had a slight "issue" where I thought my chicken wasn't fully cooked and the manager reassured me that it was just breading but happily remade my sandwich to give me peace of mind. I REALLY appreciated that. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, literally leaving "not a fry left behind." The size of my chicken on the sandwich was HUGE- had to be hanging off the roll by 2" on each side! Staff were phenomenal. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Love the laid back decor. I chose the hottest seasoning they had--pretty sure it was ghost pepper--and yeah, it was spicy but didn't make me miserable. There was a lot of food, and it definitely filled us up. My wife got mac n cheese with hers and really enjoyed every bite. The cashier was nice and attentive. The atmosphere is great for a lunch or dinner date. Spent the day at Texas A&M and had to go get Laynes for lunch!…read more One cannot go to CStat and not get lunch at Laynes..Canes and Zaxbys do not compare.. However, I will say that all the chicken tender places since Covid went from their signature large tenders to half size smaller tenders. Not sure why or why they never went back to the larger size tenders after Covid. I ordered a 3 piece and you can see how small the size of the tenders are and I remember when two of the tenders would of equaled 1 tender before Covid. The service was great, the tenders were hot and fresh since made to order and the fries were crunchy. Nothing wrong at all with the service, taste of the food, the only complaint is how tiny the tenders are now. It did not disappoint. I think I burned the roof of my mouth on the first bite but it was worth it. Presentation: nothing to praise but no complaints either. See the photo and judge for yourself. Ambiance: small and cute. Nothing nice about it but fairly clean. Staff: friendly but not over the top. The verdict: Chick-Fil-A is still #1. Then Layne's. Then Raising Cane's. After spending 22 years in Rock Hill, SC, I rarely found a pie that could stand up to true NY/NJ standards. Now that I'm retired and living in Bryan, TX, I've been on the hunt for anything close to authentic New York-style pizza. By pure luck, we stumbled into Champion Pizza at 2008 Texas Ave S, College Station, TX 77840 -- and what a find. Only afterward did we learn that the owner and founder runs several pizza shops in New York and brought that same craft down here to Texas. Suddenly it all made sense. The crust, the sauce, the fold... it's the real deal. It tasted like home. I absolutely love it, and I tip my hat to the team working there. We were genuinely fortunate to walk into the right place at the right time. So if you want the closes thing to NY style pizza, come to this place.

If you worship at the Altar of Sourdough, I have found the Gates of Bread Heaven…read more I have sourdough across this Land from Florida to California and THIS is the best flavored sourdough I have ever had in my decades of eating. The crust has a chew to it that is firm but gives way soon enough after biting. What it gives way to is a crumb that is soft, textured and smells like a double dose of sourdough yeast. The starter is at least 25 years old and boy howdy, it really packs a punch. So much so, I asked an employee there if they sold starter. I would have bought some to use and grow at home. Enough about their star item ... let's go over the lunch I enjoyed there yesterday (15May26, got a free cookie on their birthday). I had their Crawfish Mac and Cheese in a bread bowl. The pasta was curly and cooked al-dente, as any pasta should be. The pieces of crawfish had a slight, very slight dusting of bread crumbs on them that added a nice texture to the forkful of pasta and creamy cheesiness that is a hallmark of mac n cheese. Needless to say, I managed to finish the contents of the bowl (the plug of bread removed is also served) and about half of the wonderful bread bowl before forcing myself to just stop. The remains were dutifully doggie bagged and brought with me as a snack to be enjoyed on the drive home. I will be in College Station many times over the next four years and when there, Blue Baker is definitely on my list of places to get great bread and a good lunch. There are three in Aggieland, so try them all if you are nearby. Ciao, Darrell

We all had water to drink, the spinach-artichoke dip appetizer, they each had a burger and fries, they each had a mini pizookie, and I had the Santa Fe salad. The meal came to over $107 with tip which, was too expensive for a lunch that just wasn't good. The waitress did a great job, however, even if she looked like she was being forced to do some serious salesmanship on us. My daughter and son-in-law said their burgers and fries were just okay (although perfectly cooked to order), but my super expensive salad was not good at all. It was bagged, not fresh lettuce, and had been sitting somewhere awhile. Perhaps it had been vacationing on some warm tropical isle and was overly distraught that it had to come back to work, but by the time it got to me, it was just so, so tired. It had had enough. It decided to give up right there on the plate. So sad. You know how it gets, when the edges get slimy and kind of curl over? When it has that gassy-baggy smell and taste? It was dark in the restaurant (I think we know why now, and it isn't for ambience), so I couldn't see at first what the problem is. So when I started eating a $18.49 salad, I didn't think I'd have to dig through it and see if it were suitable for an activity like actual eating. I couldn't have imagined they would proudly serve me a salad that was mucky. Said salad was supposed to come with avocados, but only three tiny cubes bothered to show up. I don't know where the rest of it ended up. There were no red onions, and there were no tomatoes. Maybe they were all at church praying for forgiveness. The chicken itself was decent, if a little little and a little dry (but who wants wet chicken when the rest of the salad was just that, am I right?). On the menu, it says: "...the Santa Fe Salad at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse is the perfect lunch dish to break up the doldrums of the workday." Maybe it's because it wasn't a normal "workday," it being Sunday and all. But I think there was a typo because the salad itself *was* the doldrums.
