If you worship at the Altar of Sourdough, I have found the Gates of Bread Heaven. I have sourdough across this Land from Florida to California and THIS is the best flavored sourdough I have ever had in my decades of eating. The crust has a chew to it that is firm but gives way soon enough after biting. What it gives way to is a crumb that is soft, textured and smells like a double dose of sourdough yeast. The starter is at least 25 years old and boy howdy, it really packs a punch. So much so, I asked an employee there if they sold starter. I would have bought some to use and grow at home. Enough about their star item ... let's go over the lunch I enjoyed there yesterday (15May26, got a free cookie on their birthday). I had their Crawfish Mac and Cheese in a bread bowl. The pasta was curly and cooked al-dente, as any pasta should be. The pieces of crawfish had a slight, very slight dusting of bread crumbs on them that added a nice texture to the forkful of pasta and creamy cheesiness that is a hallmark of mac n cheese. Needless to say, I managed to finish the contents of the bowl (the plug of bread removed is also served) and about half of the wonderful bread bowl before forcing myself to just stop. The remains were dutifully doggie bagged and brought with me as a snack to be enjoyed on the drive home. I will be in College Station many times over the next four years and when there, Blue Baker is definitely on my list of places to get great bread and a good lunch. Can you believe I've never been to one of these before. Lots of options. Gluten-free bread for sandwiches and a gluten-free cauliflower crust for pizzas. Well I didn't try either. I need these options for my family. All the staff was really helpful. I made a create your own - hot ham and Swiss on a croissant and had an apple bearclaw. This location does have a lot of indoor seating with great booths for intimate conversations. They have two patio areas. Lots of fans. Great lighting. I want to start off by saying the food was good, my grandparents and I enjoyed it. However, I was a bit put off by how the pizza was cut so awkwardly uneven and just shoved haphazardly into the box; so much so that a few slices were mushed/folded. Not only that, but we paid for extra sauce and when I saw the pizza all I could think was, "is the sauce in the room with us?" (Basically there was no sauce.) literally I am staring at this pizza as I type this and it just looks like you baked pizza dough with a mist of sauce. There was hardly any cheese too. I also was pretty upset to see that my Mac and cheese was burnt on the top. Like literally black...it flaked like ash when I poked it with my fork. I'm not sure how you can see that and decide, "yup! That's good enough to give to a paying customer!!" Also, when I ordered the mac and cheese I wanted the shredded cheese and crouton topping. When I was ordering online it automatically said no cheese no crouton, so I went back and changed it. Unfortunately, the order still submitted with no toppings. Now, this could be user error on my part so I am not mad about it. Again, the food was fine. I'm not too picky and scraping off the burnt parts and eating a folded piece of pizza is not the end of the world. It is, however, a bit off putting and hopefully not a common occurrence. I am more so upset that we paid money for extra stuff on the pizza but didn't get it. If it wasn't more money to get extra sauce then ya know so be it. But it's not fair that you charge for something, no matter how small an amount, and then don't put it on there. The food itself tasted good (with adjustments made on our end) but I do feel like it was ultimately a waste of money. We arrived around 9:30am and they were out of plain bagels, cinnamon twists, everything bagels, and apple bear claws. We ended up getting the avocado toast, cinnamon bagel, and coffee. The avocado toast had hair on it and the bagel had a hair baked in. Others in our group found hair in their food too. They replaced some of the food, but I wasn't willing to try again after two items with hair. The drip coffee was very weak and tasted more like tea. read more

I have been eating at blue baker for the past six years and I always recommend it to my friends for a healthier and tastier alternative. The food is delicious and is a great place to do work if you are a student. The Dominic drive location here in College Station often has poor service both inside and drive though. They will often charge you for your order then note they missed an item and make you pay again resulting in an additional charge to your card or if you order online for pickup they will not fill your order completely and charge you again. I will always opt to go to one of the other locations due to this reason. Update: I had ordered their "largest size" cup of soup to go along with my order in which I already charged twice once for my order and again for $2 of Turkey they didn't charge me for and believed I had been charged for a quart of soup to go but was only charged and given a bowl. I once again had to pay for this mistake to get my original order. THREE charges for one order. This is not the first time this has happened and will not be the last, I have seen other reviews of the same issue and witnessed someone having the same issue while eating today. read more

Several staff members came by out table telling us they had free bakery items if we wanted to take some on our way out. The manager (Arnet) came by and visited with us. She loaded us up on bakery items. Since they don't use preservatives and bake everything fresh each day, they either give what is left at the end of the day away or throw it out. read more

First off, the kids love this locetion because even though it's not huge, it has a little play area outside- not to mention blue baker has an amazing and cheap kids meal! it's so nice to have a business that's catering to kids and making eating out more affordable! their kids meal price even went DOWN recently which is practically unheard of. now we buy a kids meal for each kid because it's so much more affordable than other places. you can also get fruit with the kids meal which is a super good deal- there's an up charge for it but a great fruit cup and way cheaper than ordering it with a sandwich. I used to think blue baker items were semi- bland because there weren't many toppings but then i learned on their app that you can add as many veggies you want on your sandwich and salads for free!!! it's really spiced up my blue baker menu options! for pizza, it costs extra but not for sandwiches and salads. Blue baker also has a nice drink selection including unsweetened flavor tea which is my personal favorite!! service at blue baker is excellent! the inside is blue and white and can get cold at times so bring a jacket. my brother and sister in law weren't a fan of the inside ambiance but i have never minded it too much and usually we sit outside. overall, blue baker is a great local place to check out! read more

Have been coming to this location for many years. This last trip we visited twice. We were disappointed on both times by ordering and paid but after sitting down and waiting we were told they are out of our selection of food item and would we like to order something else. This is terrible planning and poor communication. After many many years this is not acceptable. I own and operate a good establishment and you simply cannot do this and remain viable. This business has gone downhill slowly over the years. I used to love it, now it's frustrating. We tried to order food tonight and they were out of half of the styles of bread. The bread they were out of was the bread needed for their advertised throwback sandwich. Dont advertise and then not be able to hold up to your end of the bargain. Then when we finally got our order, which was to go. They forgot to put the sandwich, which was supposedly the last of that style of bread that they had, into the bag. When we got home and realized that they shorted us a sandwich, they couldn't make that sandwich anymore because they were out of that bread, and they were also out of other bread to make a similar sandwich. When asked where our sandwich was, they must've given it to somebody else, or maybe a staff member ate it. Because they couldn't explain where our sandwich was. After driving all the way back, the consolation prize was a free cookie. There was no offer for a refund or anything else to compensate the drive or poor service or missing sandwich. The Manager explained that she and her team were doing the best they can. Their best is to provide poor customer service and fix it with a cookie. I think there're some health related protocols blue baker can improve during Covid. Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy sandwiches and bakery items they offer. Club bleu, caprese, and roasted veggies sandwiches are always good choices; zucchini bread is always amazing. I support this local business during covid, until I ordered in store today. When I was ordering, the cashier changed on a new gloves, then pressed the screen with gloves on, take my phone (to look at the yelp check-in offer) with the same gloves, take my credit card with same gloves, then using the SAME gloves to take the lemon tart DIRECTLY... I mean I don't care that much if there's no covid. But thinking about what might be on my phone, my credit card, and the screen. This can be easily fixed by using kitchen tongs, or having another person just handling food. I reheated my food at home. Gladly this is something can be heated again. Had an awful experience today while celebrating my daughter's 30th birthday with my husband and elderly mother. The system for ordering and paying for items did not seem to be connected. My daughter ordered a bowl of food and it arrived when my mother and husband were just about finished eating. My buzzer never went off so I went back to the cashier to double check that I had been charged for my 1/2 grilled cheese and tomato soup. I was indeed charged. I then found out that my order had not even been started and the rest of my party had now finished eating. I decided to just ask for a refund since my daughter needed to get back to work. Always fresh and tasty! Highly recommend the Blue Bird or the Club Bleu...both incredibly delicious. I crave their broccoli cheese soup even though it's a bit inconsistent (sometimes thick, sometimes super runny). Still tastes great all the time! The staff are super courteous and seem to really enjoy working there (or all deserve Academy Awards if not). One of the best places to eat in town. I prefer this location over the one on university because when you build your own salad, the server walks you through it at the bar so you don't have to tell them what you want all at once. I normally do a build your own side salad and a tomato basil soup. The Tomato Basil soup is phenomenal. If you want a good sandwich, I HIGHLY recommend the indigo or the roasted veggie. Both are delicious even though it probably won't fill you up so you may want something on the side too. Finally their kalmata olive bread is very tasty and their pumpkin bread is simply delicious. If you want to eat something a bit on the healthier side, I 100% recommend Blue Baker. One of my College Station favorites! I used to always order blue baker when I was too lazy to make lunch. I love their sandwiches, particularly the Tejas Blue and the Blue Bird. I also like the Apple Walnut Chicken salad, and they recently came out with a new ancient grains bowl that is delicious.
