This place has been here for a very long time. I used to come here often, but then I stopped, but I only stopped because it's just not really on my radar of places to go to eat, as it just blends away into the valley with so many other dining offerings. I don't know if they've changed management, but things are different and not in a good way. Some of the recipes have changed. They're not necessarily worse, just different. And the interior is changed. No more outside seating. The reason I won't be returning, however, is that I was given spoiled food. I've been coming here for a long time and have never had this issue before. The tabbouleh I was given was clearly spoiled. Instead of its usual fresh green color, it was yellow and had a horrific smell. It was obviously well past its shelf life. Undercooked fries, how can you get fries wrong?! And the rice--sticky rice, what the hell are ya'll doing, you might as well put teriyaki sauce on the beef kabob, at least there will be flavor. Bland and overpriced. I would say this is like school cafeteria food, but even schools get the fries right. Ordered a beef kabob plate and a gyro plate for a whopping $45 and some change. We got one plate with fries and one plate with rice, both were a disappointment, the rice was asian rice and the fries (even the thin ones) were soggy and undercooked, all lacking flavor. The hummus was bland with a semblance or attempt at flavor only after mixing it with the red sauce that was dolloped on top of it. The salad may have been the only saving grace and perhaps that was due to all the lemon juice sprinkled over the cafeteria style salad comprised of onions, lettuce, and tomato. The pita itself was cold and doughy, I'm almost of a mind to say that it was from Costco and halfheartedly warmed up, although even the pita bread from costco has, you guessed it, FLAVOR. The laffa bread is freshly made in a specialty oven, has nice char marks and is perfectly soft and not too thick. Wrapped into the laffa are: the juicy chicken shawarma, a layer of hummus, spicy sauce per request, yummy fries, some veggies and all drizzled by the tahini sauce. Pita Pockets was located in a strip mall with lots of parking out in front. They had roomier outdoor seating than the tables inside. We struck up a conversation with one of the staff while waiting and got a little history about the place. Very friendly guy and generous. We ended up ordering a variety to go: The chicken kebabs were delicious with lots of flavor. Hummus was creamy and salad was fresh. The gyro plate was stacked with a generous serving of meat. The Laffa (a little like naan) used in their wrap was freshly baked while we waited. Mated with the gyro meat, veggies and their sauce turned into an amazing meal with a little smokiness from the browned Laffa. Overall lots of food for the price. The food was soooo underwhelming. However the price a bit overwhelming. Why did I have to pay over $30 for a shawerma plate that was literally nothing special. Maybe the sauces made the dish, but I wouldn't know that because they didnt even give me the tahini sauce i asked for. The falafel was good, another, However, no tahini to dip it into. Being it was my firs time here, the worker gave me the run down. I ended up ordering the Chicken Shawarma Laffa. And it didn't disappoint. They must have one giant pita bread rolled out for this cause the Laffa was huge! Theres enough room to sit inside, or they have a cute outdoor (covered) patio area right in front of the store as you walk in. Also, they have complimentary pita chips while you wait for your food. Since I did my research I looked up the difference between gyro and laffa I picked the heartier laffa. Gyro comes in a pita pocket. Very thin bread. I loved the laffa . It's a thicker flatbread. If you're a bread lover like me, go with laffa. For my side I picked French fries. I didn't know it was inside the laffa. It was DELICIOUS. The perfect marriage of lemon, creamy, tangy and protein. You order inside and they call you when your order is ready. Since it was my first time they delivered my food to me. Inside seating has a few 2 top tables. One 4 top. I believe I spoke with the owner, and asked him what was the recommended choice. I ended up getting the beef shawarma plate with rice. It was delicious.
