This place used to be my favorite vegetarian lunch or dinner spot but it has really gone down hill since they changed the menu and pricing a few months ago. Today was the last time I will go there. I was there at 11am and the prep bar was full and ready for the lunch rush, except that all of the veggies looked like they had been sitting there for days uncovered - brown lettuce, limp spinach, dried-up peppers, mushy tomatoes, etc. I noticed the same thing the last time I'd been there when they first changed the menu but I thought it might be just a one time thing. I mentioned something to the person who was making my order and I was told "yeah, it's always like that, I don't know why." If you have an open-view prep bar, ya can't have brown, mushy veggies - amirite?!!? And, to add further insult to my food, today's falafel was burned to a black-inedible-crisp and tasted like burnt sand. I'm done. read more

I come from Hollywood to Salem constantly to visit my mom and to help her to film her China painting TV show down the street at CCTV studios. When I am here like today, I literally run down the alleyway like a kid chasing the ice cream man, and get this, it's health food! Whoever said that health food has no flavor has never been to the Pit! Whether you are a serious carnivore like me or a vegetarian or vegan like some of my friends, this place is amazing. The artists and employees are super friendly, the ingredients are so fresh, unlike my last 5 or 10 visits to random Subway sandwich shops and I love the soft drink dispenser that gives you lots of options especially since I gave up caffein. Food is remarkable here and always organically made. I had a gyro and some hummus when I had lunch with a professor here one time. It is located within close proximity to Olin Science Center, which made it super convenient for me to grab a bite when I had to work on important lab projects. But tonight tried their online ordering and they had $5 special and I talked my kids into that special instead of what they wanted and the store charged us full price (I chose cash option to avoid entering my cc info and I had cash) . The cashier couldn't and her manager wouldn't make it right and made us "eat it." So if you order online, pay online or you may pay more in store. I was tempted to leave the orders unpaid at the store because price was other than represented. I have NEVER had an online quoted price not be honored anywhere in Salem. So bummed. read more

Ordered pita pit on Uber eats and my pita came uncooked. I also asked them to cook some of my veggies with my meat and they didn't do that either. It tasted very dry and honestly just awful. My co-workers and i recently ordered online from pita pit. Thinking "oh this is easy! then we can pick it up and enjoy a good pita" wrong.. they literally messed up all 7 of our orders, i didn't get sauce or cheese on mine, another got BBQ sauce on his BUFFALO chicken pita, and two others with no cheese and the wrong veggies. It's ridiculous how messed up our online order was. Last time i went in there, they dropped my order slip on the ground and 5 people went in front of me because they didn't have my order. Then finally they noticed i was waiting and ask me what i was waiting for....uhh my pita! I don't think i will be coming back to the state street location.. read more

Best sandwiches/pita things. They grill the meats on a grill for you so it's extra juicy and so perfectly cooked. Have so many options of toppings and sauces you can add, unlimited amounts of those fresh vegetables and many options of sauces make for a insane combination only one can try. It is mind blowing. I've eaten here frequently because it is convenient and I believe in giving restaurants more than one chance before thinking ill of them. But usually the customer service sucks when I need it. What ever happened to "the customer is always right"? The manager at this store could learn quite a bit more about service besides just wearing a smile. If she's right and she really can't do anything without the owners approval then the owner needs to be there during the day. You really do need to watch them prep your food and tell them how to do it right or you will be disappointed with what you get. I probably won't go here any more, my experience there just seems to get worse every time I go. read more

I was pretty happy to see a Pita Pit opening up in Salem. I love the food! You have a lot of choices and the food can be more on the healthy side of fast food - but also on the not as healthy, giant portion side if you're into that. The food is just as good as at any other Pita Pit, but the service at this location sucks. I was also unhappy about the seating (very little and the seats are right where the line to make your order is), but then recently noticed there's upstairs seating. If you like a good alternative to a sandwich with more options than usual, this is a great place to go. If you're looking for service with a smile, this isn't your place. read more

Went in there today and it was freezing in the restaurant. I think it was about the same temp in the place as it was outside. I couldn't take my jacket off and I was shivering as I ate my Pita. Pita Pit...what a nice surprise! Got their falafel with hummus -- and it was really good. Fresh ingredients....and the wheat pita pocket was good. The workers seemed "portland poser cool" but oh well...they were nice enough for having to work in the food industry...which I wouldn't want to do. I will go back again. Amazing food, great service. At first i was skeptical to try something like this, especially since yelp seems to have mixed reviews. But, as my mom back home would say "Oooohhhh, boyyyyy was that tasty." I've recommended this to several people already and it hasn't even been 24 hours. I honestly don't know what a lot of the other reviewers are talking about, since I have eaten at this Pita Pit dozens of times and never once had a problem with the food. I make it a point to try something different every few times and I have never been disappointed with my order. The staff are generally friendly and always knowledgeable. They do come with dreadlocks, tattoos and piercings. This makes no difference in the quality of the food or the atmosphere, but apparently it turns some people off.
