I have been a customer for some time, I often ordered the lamb over rice. Today had it delivered and it was inedible. All fat and cartilage with a bit of meat attached, absolutely disgusting. I had to throw it away. I do not often write bad reviews but I will if a message must be sent, and this had to be said. Just terrible, no excuse. Super friendly staff and great value! I stopped by to grab a falafel pita sandwich, and was met with friendly service. My office used to order from Pita Hot a lot and their food and falafel are amazing! As good as the many other restaurants/food carts in Astoria with stiff competition. They're also a great option for the many vegetarians at my job. Seems like the business has been around since maybe 2002? Their menu says they serve Syrian cuisine. Highly recommend my go-to order Jerusalem Falafel Sandwich - BUT with the 3 Vegetables: Tabouli, Red Cabbage, Grape Leaf. The garlic/hummus already comes with it. Otherwise the 3 vegetable is Tabouli, Red Cabbage, Lettuce, Tomato. Had a Kofta Platter once (comes with Falafel) and the cinnamon scented Fideua rice was delicious but the large chunks of cut Kofta/Gyro was just okay. Who was running errands in the area recently and have been upon them - I've never been to the actual space, across from Mount Sinai Hospital. It's a small casual shop with a few tables in the middle, 2 small tables outside. The place looked cozy, lived in, clean. Doesn't fit large groups well but I'm pretty sure the super hospitable owner would always make it happen! He was sitting down at the table drinking a small glass of some kind of herbal tea, pouring a little silver picture of warm liquid on top of pale herbs /flowers? Disgustingly rude owner with absolutely no respect for customers. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable over a simple request. The attitude was completely unnecessary, disrespectful, and unprofessional. After being treated this badly, I would not trust him to prepare my food, and I will never return. The owner is Lebanese, and has owned the restaurant for over 20 years, taking care of the neighborhood who also supported the establishment even throughout Covid. They have delicious baklava and other delicacies that you'll find, coupled nicely with freshly made lentil soup, which I highly recommend. Oh my goodness! Where has this place been all my life? The funny thing is I been told it's been around for 20 years. I must have missed it, since I usually dine on the other side of 30th Avenue, and inadvertently walking past, I just usually go toward the coffee pot and towards the Shady Lady...now I will go this way. Both ways! I believe it is Turkish cuisine, and they have fantastic service. The staff was and is super welcoming and friendly. I have visited multiple times. And I have tried the samosas (small potato stuffed triangle crepes) with the delicious sweet chutney sauce (Tamarind, maybe?), and I did wolf it down without reservation. It was delicious, crispy, but not hard, and flaky but just right...the potatoey insides were fantastic. I also had an order of the grape leaves (Dolmades like at Greek Restaurants), and it had the most amazing olive oil and yummy mysterious other dripping sauce that I ever tried. I also have to add that my grape leaves were freshly made...and it tasted just delectable. So the restaurant has an easy breezy vibe, and most people are inside chatting and catching up having delicious honey blossom tea and Turkish coffee (super strong)! It is small inside, but it has a great family feel! Just to try this delicious meat filled platters of yummy delights. I want to now try all the meals. I definitely will return! Ate here today by myself during my lunch break while working full time as a teacher assistant at The 30th Avenue School (Q300). Came here on a Tuesday around noon. The place was small with a few seats inside. The service was ok. I ordered a lamb kabob platter with no rice, a chicken shawarma with no rice and a side of falafel. The chicken shawarma was portioned generously but it was super dry and had no flavor. It was so dry that it had a tuna taste. Not good. The portion of meat for the lamb kabob was small. The lamb was quite fatty and had very little seasoning. For both platters the "salad" that came with it was super soggy, kind of like a sludge. We couldn't eat it. The falafel was the highlight and it was only mediocre at best. The falafel didn't seem very fresh, it was slightly stale. The flavor was mild and had a hint of citrus. We were also not given any pita bread which means some of our order was missing. The man who I presume is the owner is not only rude, but impatient to boot! I went twice, the first time, I saw him yelling at an employee. I should have taken a hint and not gone back. The second time, I asked him a simple straight forward question that any reasonable restaurateur who values ​​his customers would be happy to answer: I wanted to know what was included in an advertised platter. Apparently, that was asking too much. He impatiently and disdainfully answered, "why do you want to know, just buy it!" and then added, "stop wasting our time!" I told him, I need to know how many different vegetables I can include in the platter as well as the price if I include a few more vegetables [as I didn't want to be hit with a surprise bill], he refused to answer and quipped "if you can't afford the dish, l'll pay the difference," [I'm thinking, yea right!]. He stopped acknowledging me, turned his back, went on his cell phone and with the wave of his hand, ordered the man he had yelled at earlier to serve me. I said NO, said good-bye and walked out. Who's going to buy a dish from a restaurant if one doesn't know what one is going to be charged? Not surprisingly, some of the other reviewers say that they were over charged! Even worse, why would anyone patronize a place where one is not valued and is treated so rudely? Sorry, minimal customer appreciation is a prerequisite for one to patronize any establishment. Walking up to the place on a Friday night I thought this was just another corner bodega serving up their take on falafel and shawarma, BUT it's better than the corner...it's the middle edge of the brownie. This middle eastern joint offers fresh flavors, crisp veggies, and falafel that knocks any food truck out of the park. I've been apart of the Astoria community for a little over 2 years and I cannot believe these succulent flavors have been 3 blocks away. Tons of food for a great price, really well balanced. Includes a little of pretty much everything the offer. Lamb shank is my favorite, but usually not available until later in the day (around 12:30-1pm because they take a long time to cook). It's also not on the menu, but just ask. I was hungry and in a neighborhood I don't know well, so I turned to Yelp and saw that this halal restaurant had good reviews. I stopped by for a quick bite on my way to the subway and went for a falafel/gyro meat combo sandwich. It came in a pita, of course, with shredded lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. I had mine with white sauce and a little red sauce. The flavor was a solid 7/10 or so. Not mind blowing but very tasty, above average halal food.
