Came here last night and their cart outside in the front makes the best kofta kebabs and great grilled kebabs in general and the rice is fantastic!!! OMG can't wait to come again very soon!!

Yemeni cuisine at it's best! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yemeni_cuisine It is a new restaurant in the same location as the former Ubol's kitchen. http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/ubols-kitchen/ I was not a fan of Ubol's Kitchen and I tried them twice! So Glad this new Yemeni restaurant is here now! Awesome! First the decor ,they put a tremendous amount of thought and money into the decor. It is so beautiful. I had the "bad camera" (it's what we call it.) So the pictures do not do the space justice. There are large screen TV's playing classic movies, comfy silk chairs, exotic art and lamps, brick walls, and marble tables. The restaurant is well heated which is very important to me and most important it is clean. A nice place to eat, sit, talk, and watch movies, a relaxing experience in a frenetic city. Now what you are waiting for about the food. The bread is the size of a large NYC pizza. I say NYC because in general NY has larger pies than the rest of the country. The Fava bean dip was so much better than the Yemeni restaurant we went to in Brooklyn. The one in Brooklyn had a bitter taste. This has a tomato base and was close to a chili taste. I do not eat meat often but had the lamb Segar. It was outstanding. It is a lamb sizzler with spices and vegetables that include cumin, coriander, cinnamon, scallions and tomatoes. I am going to go back super soon and try a fish dish. I mainly eat fish and vegetables. The fish is more expensive and we were short on cash. But it was so worth the guilt I have over eating meat! ( I do not know if it was cash only but we want to pay cash when it is possible.) There was a bit of a language barrier so we just pointed to what we wanted to order. At the time I go back if it is as good as it was last night they get 5 stars! It is at least 4 and a half stars easily! I usually do not award 5 stars on first visit and when I have I regretted it! This is a destination restaurant for sure! Come from any of the 5 boros from NJ, from Ct, as a tourist ,come from Philly come from anywhere! I like Yemeni cuisine it is not boring and more rare than other Middle Eastern cuisines. I think there is a Felafel shop on every corner of Manhattan. Yemeni cuisine is more rare more exotic but not weird just delicious! It is 11/28/12 and as of now I am first to review.

Middle Eastern food, best for take out. Love their shish kebab and kofta kebabs. Most of the food is made on charcoals. If you are craving for a authentic middle eastern food, you should definitely give them a visit.

Mixed grill combo minus the chicken
Aniqah K.

Mixed grill combo was a good amount of food for 2 people. We got to try all the different kababs. The feta salad it came with was definitely not cheap on the feta. I wasn't too crazy about the meat broth soup it came with but I'm not complaining because it was decent for dipping my bread. The baba ghanoush appetizer in my opinion is better than the bean spread like appetizer. I loved that the baba ghanoush was nice and smokey. They didn't have hummus either of the 2 times I went which was disappointing because I was really looking forward to hummus.

Absolutely the best Yemeni restaurant in town. I have tried another Yemeni restaurant in Brooklyn (Yemen cafe), and I found this one way better. Great food, great service. It sucks though they only accept cash.

Some good Haneeth! The lamb is so tender and tasty.
Irene K.

Really good food with great portions and reasonable prices. I tried the Haneeth, which was awesome. The lamb was tender and flavorful. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. The service is also great, which is always a plus for me. So go and enjoy.

The menu on the monitors keep rotating, so it's best to scan the QR code for the takeout menu for your sanity. You order your dishes through a staff behind the counter. Then you wait by the cashier for your order to get ready. There is no order number and they don't ask for your name, so it's really confusing if or when your order that is ready. You have to remember what you ordered because they're just calling out the dishes! We originally wanted to try Kofta Curry, but was told it's not available well after I finished placing the order. The exact same thing happened when we switched to Lamb Tikka. So the ordering was time consuming and stressful to say the least. We finally ended up with Beef Bihari and Lamb Biriyani. After a good amount of effort trying to track down when our food, I was finally able to pay for our meal. There are a few tables in the back. Once you pay and get your dishes, you can find a place to sit and consume your food. I have also seen people getting table service, but I have no idea how that works. As for the food, the Beef Bihari was extremely heavy in flavor and salty - almost like a moist version of beef jerky, and definitely required a lot of rice or bread to balance it out. The Goat Biriyani was better, but the meat was mostly bones and fat. Overall, we struggled to finish our meal. However, the owner was friendly and accommodating, so I am adding 1 star to the rating.

It was uncomfortable since our knees bumped into the table. However, we did not have to wait! We had immediate service any time we wanted it because someone was always behind the bar. Food (5/5): This is the best Indian food I've had in Queens!! Every since dish is packed with flavor, depth in the sauce and meats, and reasonably priced!! I liked how much sauce was in every dish. Samosa was perfect. The Goat Mandras was my favorite with a sauce that has spice but not super spicy considering the red chili symbol. Chicken Tikka was also very good. My garlic naan was SO good, has a crunch on one side but airy soft to bite. Unlimited little rice bowls?! This will be our go-to Indian after our first experience.

The food was good but I don't know that I'd make a special trip out of it. The paneer is homemade but I've had creamier paneer elsewhere. I was impressed by the tender chicken in the biryani but could have used with a bit more of it. The curry also comes with plain rice so we had plenty of carbs.

Food (5/5): We both ordered platters with different kinds of meat. You can't go wrong with the shawarma, both the chicken and the beef were well seasoned and juicy. I got the koufta which is minced meat with spices and enjoyed it. It took about 20 minutes for both of dishes to get ready. The cashier hooked us up with spicy and white sauce bottles so we could add to our hearts content. The pitas were just okay but nice to enjoy the meal with. Nutella baklava was fire. It tasted a bit stale after sitting out for too long but it was filled with chocolate-goodness!! It was very rich but very good. Realized while writing the review that feteer was the move!! You'll find yourself lost in the hidden gems of Levant Lebanese and Egyptian culture. Made my journey to Levant for the first time and it was a pleasure. What got my attention the chicken and beef shawarma that was spinning on the counter dripping with fats, juices and flavor. Right when we got seated, the manager brought us freshly prepared, piping hot pieces of Falafel. Very good and well prepared. Very nice of him. Then So I ordered myself their chicken shawarma. The chicken was a little dry but it was still flavorful and delicious. A little hint of Sumac. What I would recommend is management to take a little more precautions on their customers. We ordered their famous Mixed Feteer, which is basically like their house pizza. And it took about 20 minutes to make and I totally understand that it gets a little busy but we have to prioritize the first customers all the way to last. But I would love to give my love and appreciation to management for serving a complimentary plate of their house sweets. It was heaven! We had their Kunefa and chocolate baklava. Mouth was watering to the extreme. I would definitely say that giving Levant in Astoria is well worth the drive if you're coming from out of town like myself but they offer really high quality Lebanese and Egyptian cuisine.
