We came here for lunch and managed to find a parking spot. I overheard an employee say the apartment complex behind them will tow you if you park there so beware! I love, love, love that you can pick half sandwiches and half salads of everything. I got the half turkey avocado sandwich and a half Bakery salad. They were both phenomenal and I'm drooling just thinking about them. My husband got the Margherita pizza and my 7 year old got a cheese. The pizzas are good size- 13 inches. My husband demolished his and my daughter ate all but one or two pieces (which my husband and I helped finish off). They both loved their pizzas. Even though we were stuffed, we had to have a dessert so we got a slice of carrot cake. Carrot cakes can really go wrong if the icing is too sweet but this icing was perfect. I didn't feel like I was going to go into sugar shock after eating it. The employees were all really nice. The bathroom was clean. I will absolutely be back next time I'm in the Asheville/Brevard area. If you're hiking, it wasn't far at all between DuPont State Forest and Pisgah National Forest. We did waterfall hikes at DuPont starting around 8:30 am and then had lunch here before heading down the road to others at PNF. read more

Unfortunately this place tends to be a miss for me. My experience with service is consistently that they are unfriendly. When you pay $6 for a small pastry, it feels a little bad when they don't say "thank you" or "how can I help you" or "what would you like" ... more than once I've been here and had the experience that I'm bothering the employee just by being there. Bought a cardamom bun today and while I love cardamom this was still an overly strong flavor. Lovely texture, though. I had a specialty croissant a while back when I was in the area and left with it. It was uncooked in the middle so I called to let them know (thinking they would want to pull the remaining ones). Whoever I spoke with was appropriately apologetic and told me next time I was there to tell the clerk that so and so wanted me to have a replacement on the house. A few months later I was in the area again and was met with such hostility and skepticism when I mentioned the "freebie" that I wished I'd never bothered. As for the bakes? Everything really does look good. The lunch menu looks great although I've never had anything. The coffee is nice and strong. Prices are high, but that's everywhere. read more

Pisgah Bakehouse was a pleasant surprise. I was driving the Blue Ridge Parkway and heading to Brevard to get something to eat. Since Brevard is a small town, I wasn't expecting to find such a good bakery, but the baked goods looked delicious as soon as we walked in. In addition to the bakery items, they also have a dining room. Since it was between lunch and dinner, we were told to order at the counter, and the only things available were salads and pizza. We ordered a sausage pizza and a Caesar salad, which turned out to be the perfect-sized lunch. Both the pizza and salad were delicious. We sat in the otherwise empty dining room, eating lunch while I watched the bakers working in the back and kept eyeing all the baked goods. Before leaving, we picked up a few goodies for the road. The baked muffins and scones looked scrumptious here but I can't review them as we didn't have any. We did have some very good breakfast sandwiches with natural sausage egg and cheddar on a nice whole grain bread. I can't say the same for the hippie dippie lackadaisical service there. We had ordered 2 of the same sandwiches but only 1 came. It took several requests and 25 minutes to get the next one. So while visiting the mountains over the holiday weekend, I ended up here on Sunday and Monday morning for breakfast and it was pretty busy both days! The first day I ordered a tomato, pesto, goat cheese croissant and love it-the flavors were on point in that flakey croissant! I ordered a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwhich on an everything bagel and it was ok-I had higher expectations, the everything bagel that I had seemed to lack the "everything" flavors and that was somewhat disappointing. Yesterday morning we ended up here again as it was on our way out of town and I ended up getting a potato and leek croissant which was delish! They bake their items fresh daily with a variety of pastries, pies and breads to choose from. With a modern mountain atmosphere and friendly service with a smile. They also have a later day operating schedule perfect for lunch or early evening meal, offering pizza, sandwiches as well as salads. This place bakes amazing bread! We've gotten French baguettes several times to have with some lunch meat, cheese and wine at the end of a hike in the Pisgah National Forest. We recently tried the 9 grain French bâtard and it was unbelievably tasty, especially toasted. We finally ate there for lunch. We had butternut squash soap as a starter (very good) and then split a chicken pesto pizza (more than enough for two with the soups as a starter). The pizza crust was exactly the way it should be: baked to perfection with just the right amount of air pockets. The chicken was tender and tasty. The basil was fresh and light. And the combination of mozzarella and gorgonzola cheeses took the pizza to the next level. It's counter service: the ordering line was well organized and moved fast. Food was brought to our table in a reasonable time. We ate outside at one of the patio dining tables, which was very pleasant. We'll definitely be back during future trips to Brevard, occasionally for the food, but anytime we are in the area for more of their amazing bread. read more

IMPRESSIVE. We've been to this bakery/pizza shop/cafe twice now. After our first visit for bakery treats a month or so ago, I'm so glad we went back for a late lunch of pizza after a recent hike nearby. We're hooked! There's a decent amount of parking around the place and in a neighboring lot. The cafe has lots of seating indoors with an additional welcoming outdoor covered patio. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the selection of baked goods in the case and breads behind the counter is a feast for the eyes. I could easily go to town buying one of everything to take home, but I'd rather bring more friends for return visits! There's a nice coffee offering with espresso drinks. We went veggie on pizza day with family and devoured veggie pesto and butternut squash pizzas- perfect crust and generous, fresh toppings. This Bakehouse is working hard to produce a stellar assortment of beautiful pastries, pizza and so much more. As I commented earlier, so IMPRESSIVE. Food is good but highly overpriced (NY city prices). It also takes half a year to get your meal even when the restaurant is fairly quiet. The fresh baked bread is delicious and I highly recommend but it's not a place for someone in a hurry or someone looking to get a good deal.
