Stopped into The Wakey Monkey in Saluda, NC on a Sunday afternoon and had a really nice lunch overall. We ordered the Italian frittata and the chicken salad sandwich. Both were tasty and hit the spot. The chicken salad sandwich was the standout for us--simple, fresh, and really satisfying. The frittata had great flavor, but it was a little on the dry side, so I'd probably pair it with something extra next time or try another option. All in all, a solid place to grab a bite in Saluda, and we'd happily come back--especially for that chicken salad sandwich. read more

Firstly the specialty lattes and coffee are every persons dream! Just the perfect mix of sweet and all the flavor! The food was the perfect combos. Found this little spot when I took a random exit on a road trip. Very cute little coffee shop. Coffee is great and the people are super nice. They have wide variety of pastries and food. I did not get food but it looked good from what I saw. I was disappointed to see the croissants were from Costco, so I am unsure how home made anything else was. The local art of the wall was great and available for purchase. Would highly recommended this spot if you happen to be in the area. read more

My daughter and I popped in for a coffee and a chai latte. Attentive service, quick turnaround on the order. It was a little crowded (good for business!) - we took our drinks and left. Found this spot as I was driving from Knoxville to Greenville SC and it was the cutest little coffee shop. The service was awesome and being a mixed woman I was a little hesitant but everyone was so kind and welcoming. My matcha was great and so was the breakfast sandwich I got! I love the pumpkins they had outside the sidewalk area and it was cool to see all the crafts they sell for local artists. read more

We always love finding local places to eat when we travel. The staff here was very friendly and the food was delicious!!! My kids loved their muffins and my husband and I loved the breakfast sandwiches which were a great size! I was full till well after lunchtime. This place is off the side of the main street but it is really cute inside and out. It has a very boho ambiance and their food was delicious. The caprese sandwich was tasty and flavorful as well as the croissant sandwich. The only thing was we wished we had more potatoes for our side they looked a little scarce. Been living in Polk County for 2 years. Wakey Monkey by far, to me, hands down has the best tasting coffee in town. It's located in Saluda and on a side street off Downtown Saluda. Cute, cozy, and quaint shop with amazing coffee, smoothies, and a delicious breakfast menu. I've had the cinnamon roll and blueberry cream cheese danish. Both were heavenly! Staff is on point, very helpful, and friendly. Love places like this - makes you feel warm, invited, and at home. Highly recommend and will definitely be back! read more

Therefore while in here in north carolina visiting helping hurricane relief, I wanted to explore many coffee shops for the time Im here. This one was incredible. OK, I'll start with the positive. Wakey Monkey is super cute. It has a very warm comfortable vibe with their light green walls, colorful artwork and cute matching furniture. They have high top tables against the wall, short dining tables and a couch with two lounge chairs. There are fresh pastries such as croissants and cinnamon rolls on the counter (no savory options) and mini pumpkins on the tables. Super cute for sure. Their café menu is what you'd expect with coffee, hot tea, matcha, chai, cappuccino etc. Other than what I mention below about being out of a lot of their menu (out of waffles and frittatas), they have a great smoothie bar, some deli case options and acai bowls. I ordered an acai bowl. I appreciate that it is $9 and you can add any 4 toppings. I added bananas, peanut butter, pepitas and granola. It was super yummy and the perfect size portion. The pepitas were an awesome addition because they were salty which balanced out the tart and sweetness of the bowl. The consistency was a bit more smooth than I'm used to with an acai bowl but it actually made it easier to eat and more enjoyable on such a cold morning. The longer I stayed here, the more I could feel the community vibe of this place. Guests walked in and were greeted with genuine friendliness and interest. I can imagine that this is a business that will do really awesome in Saluda. If I lived here, I imagine that I would come here often. At one point, the staff even walked around with a coffee pot to refill and checking in with everyone to make sure everyone was good. Great stuff! Now the negative--After reading a really awesome review and photos of Wakey Monkey, I decided to drive from Asheville to check it out. I was really bothered by the fact that I walked in after driving 35 minutes just to try this place, that I was greeted by a "Hello" and that's about it. The person taking my order almost seemed annoyed by me as I made up my mind. The next people (and everyone after) who came in got a whole friendly greeting including questions such as "Where are you visiting from? Great to have you in town" as well as a run-down of the menu, things they were out of (they were sold out of 50% of their menu, seriously?), where the coffee comes from, etc etc...I know I'm ranting but I was bummed. Regardless, I'll just ignore the above and I definitely think this is a 5 star business and is going to rock it! read more

I ordered the chicken salad sandwich which was so creamy and full of fresh flavor in the crunchy celery and celery seed. The croissant was fresh and flaky. I visited twice during my recent stay in Saluda. The food was excellent. I can recommend the frittatas, Italian sandwich, and caprese sandwich as top knotch. The coffee is also good. And my fiancé said their oatmeal cookie smoothie was perfect. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The servers were attentive and made good recommendations. Friendly staff, lots of options for breakfast. Seating inside or you can grab a bench in town at one of the parks if you prefer to be outside. All the staff was wearing masks & doing a great job keeping everyone safe. We had a great breakfast to fuel up for hiking to some waterfalls that day. The muffins should not be missed! read more

I've been here a number of times over the years since it opened. As such, I can confidently say it's been on a downward trend, especially in the last year or so. In particular, the quality of their baked goods has gotten strictly worse, while the prices have gone up. Their cinnamon bun is really a microcosm of how things have been going: It's about 30-40% smaller than before, has essentially no taste aside from the cream cheese icing (which also isn't that great) and yet costs a whopping $6. For context, you can get a cinnamon bun 2-3 times this size, and easily twice as tasty, at the same price point in several locales in Hendersonville or Columbus. The biggest pro is that it's the best place to get coffee in Saluda, which really isn't saying too much- Fine in a pinch, but nothing to write home about. Also, gotta say I'm not a fan of the attempt at guilting customers into tipping for non-table service when paying by card. Plenty of other merchants in the area have turned this off since, quite frankly, it's rather trashy. It's incumbent on the owners to pay their employees a sufficient wage- Don't ask me to guess how big the shortfall is between what they're paid and what they need, when the entirety of my interaction with them lasts 15 seconds or less. read more

We stopped here a few weeks ago and the place is super cute on a very quaint downtown area. Service was okay, they seemed annoyed when we asked questions about the food. The young woman helping us was nice enough but when we couldn't understand her (speaking muffled from behind her mask) another man came over and pointed at words written on a plexiglass barrier. Just seemed a little rude. Coffee was good and breakfast sandwiches were just okay. Seemed to be a popular place, though I doubt we would return. read more

The Wakey Monkey is on a side street in downtown Saluda. They have delicious muffins and quiche. The best coffee and hospitality around! If you are headed to Saluda, NC give them a visit. The inside is filled with local art and funky quotes, wooden floors. Old town charm. There is parking along the side street, along the climb of a hill. Visited this coffee shop while on vacation. I am always happy to try new coffee shops while traveling . Me and my friend ordered a caramel latte. When we received and tried it , neither of us could taste ANY coffee in it. I order lattes ALL the time, so I am aware of what the taste should be. We honestly thought they forgot the coffee. We went back in and inquired. The worker said he would " add another shot of espresso " to each of them. Well, that changed nothing. The coffee must be SUPER weak. We ended up tossing both of them.
