We have passed this place for the last 5 years. Its been closed or so full, we didn't stop. Sunday after church 9:15am, we had our chance. It was packed upon leaving at 10am, so heads up! First time there, we enter and no one to greet you NOR a sign to seat yourself or wait to be seated. We waited only about 6-7 min for someone to tell us to seat yourself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Passed a couple of dirty tables to sit at the window![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Don't worry, there are windows views at every single table. There is also bar seating as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is a certain charm about a 50's diner chrome everywhere, black and white checkered floor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As we look at the HUGE menu, we watch the HUGE plates of food pass. So, plan on sharing or taking some home. Tables were clean and waitress was friendly enough. Chicken Fried steak, white gravy, eggs over easy, grits and English muffin were all absolutely spectacular! The steak was super tender and crispy! The gravy wasn't over or underseasoned, I added nothing! The entire plate was gone, literally not a crumb onnthe plate left over. The Philly Skillet was also pretty great! Absolutely huge and we took more than half home to have for 2 meals at home. The postoes/fries were super crispy. The onions, peppers and mushrooms were all seasoned very well and nothing was added at all. Would have liked more meat to the ratio of veggies but with all of the veggies and eggs over easy, it worked well. No beef was brought home because there wasn't a lot on the plate. We kept seeing the biscuits pass and we just had to order one. Brought most of it home but just had to taste it. It was huge. Light and fluffy, not heavy or overdone. Would have went well with the white gravy- note for future visits. Overall 5/5! Would go back. Would like to see t he place get a deep cleaning and paint touch ups and maybe required for the wait staff to have their hair up or fixed. Several looked like they just rolled out of bed and slept with their animals. Will have to go for lunch! Bring your neighbor. Locals/regulars meeting for coffee and visits was nice to see. Waited 45 minutes plus after ordering for the worst breakfast ever. Both the omelet and grits looked totally unappealing and were tasteless. Granted, it was a busy Sunday morning, but more effort could have been spent by both the cooks and the wait staff to assure that the food prepared and served was restaurant quality and acceptable to the customer. read more

CHECK YOUR RECIEPTS PEOPLE THEY ARE RIPPING YOU OFF!!! I've been going to pops for years. I have never been treated the way I was today. I ordered the smash burger. On the menu it says it's served with hand cut fries but I asked if I could get crinkle cut instead. When I got my bill they had charged me for a full side of crinkle fries. The menu didn't say no substitution nor did it say there was an up charge to switch the side. The waitress also failed to inform me that I would be forfeiting the side and charged full price for the switch. I asked my waitress why they charged me for a side of crinkle fries her response was that the burger came with the hand cut fries and that it states on the menu the up charge. I asked to see where it said that and I had two different people point to where it says the up charge for onion rings and to add chili and cheese to fries. Nothing about crinkle cut fries. So she goes and gets her "manager" and she was very condescending. She treated me like I was stupid because I was surprised I was charged for a side of crinkle cut fries when the waitess said I could get the crinkles INSTEAD of the hand cut. If she had told me I would have been forfeiting my side and charged for another I wouldn't have switched the fries. I know it sounds petty but the way the entire FOH treated me was wrong. They lost a long time customer today. read more

We came in for a late breakfast Sat. Morning. The place was busy but too long of a wait. It's old style diner type place. Our waitress was nice but seemed a little skattered when taking our order. First time eating here, and service was good (party of 7 too!) Denise and Madison were great servers as well, super helpful and came to check on us every couple minutes to make sure everything was good. Our cups were never empty and were so overly nice! Saturday Mornings are about as busy as I think it can get but it was worth the wait to get sat down but after being seated Kailee was quick to round up drinks and orders. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you are seated it takes you back in time to the 50's and its mint green seat, checkered floors, and pink accented walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Philly was hot and delicious and it's really just your run of the mill Philly. I have to warn you that the breakfast club is absolutely massive so make sure you have an appetite before getting it. Of course for anyone that has a child the eggs here won't last very long on the plate for any 1 year old with a serious appetite. I have been eating at Pops diner for about 20 years now. I don't have any complaints at all about the food. However, today, I witnessed a server treat an older couple really badly. They came in and sat at an empty booth, the couple who had vacated the booth were at the register paying. This is how it is normally done here and has been for as long as I can remember. This server began to berate them for sitting in the booth before she had cleaned it. Her words were, "I haven't even had time to clean that table yet and the people haven't even left the building. At least let them leave the building before you take their seat." She told them to move to another table and they looked shocked-I give them so much credit for not leaving the restaurant. I sat there with my mouth open while she cleaned the table and then very sweetly told them they could sit at the table now. They declined and remained at the high top table where they looked uncomfortable. I tried to call to speak with a manager but was told there wasn't one there-which maybe explained this server's horrendous treatment of the couple. I don't know this server's name but she had on Christmas lightbulb leggings. She should be ashamed of herself and should be retrained or fired. read more

we had the worst service at a restaurant I've had in years. First of all I had to go ask someone to get my order taken after about 10 minutes of waiting and then I ordered the most expensive item, a steak and when it got here I had to ask for A1sreak sauce and a knife to cut it. she brought me a ketch pack of A1 and when I asked for more she then inf me that I would have to pay.75 cent per pack to get what should come with the steak. The state taste OK but corner Grill on 191 at the Shell station in Arden is the place to are taste better and you can have all the A1 you ! read more

Came at 10:30 on a Saturday morning visiting from out of town and it was pretty busy. We weren't sure how the seating was done but we had waited 15 mins before we saw someone walk right in and sit at the bar so we did the same. Our waitress was too busy to get our drinks and order so Miss Kelly, the waitress for the other said of the bar helped us and was so kind. She seemed very well experienced handling so many things and still helping her coworker. The prices are fairly reasonable both my boyfriend and my meals were about $6.99 each. He was able to finish his pancake combo meal but I still had half my hash skillet left over. The hash skillet is full of delicious caramelized onions and peppers and mushrooms. Everyone was very kind and although there was a bit of confusion in the beginning we had a pleasant breakfast/brunch. read more

This is my faaaaaaaavorite diner ever!!! My friend asked me to join her for breakfast, and mentioned that she wanted to go to a diner. Being that we're new friends, I agreed, but secretly was dreading going to a diner. I have never enjoyed food at diners- it seemed all style & no substance. Not Pop's! Upon walking in the door, I was delightfully surprised by this adorable establishment! When you add to it the wonderfully friendly staff and the delicious food, it's perfection! The only drawback is the drive from Rutherfordton to Hendersonville to reach Pop's can be 50 to 65 minutes considering the traffic and construction. We came here on the Saturday during the Apple Festival. It was pretty crowded. The food took a LONG time to come out. It was very warm in the restaurant also. It felt like the A/C wasn't working. Our waitress was just moderately friendly. My husband got the egg salad sandwich, which was very skimpy on the egg salad. I got the grilled chicken sandwich, which was pretty good. Very busy, cute, family run diner. No frills, no fuss. I had my standard 2-Eggs, over medium, with home fries, and crispy bacon. Home fries were outstanding! Bacon was done to perfection! Eggs were cooked properly to order. Coffee was meh. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic and the staff was friendly and efficient. If I were a local I could definitely see this becoming a regular spot for me. Next time though I'll avoid the weekend rush. My first impression of this place was on how it looked like the 50's. Old style tables and booths. We had to kill some time before my Dr Appt. So we ordered some coffee. So the rating is based on not only bad coffee but bad slow service. Maybe because we didn't order any food? If we were in the area I don't think we would go again. Its an overpriced tourist trap and help is rude and disinterested . Go if you like consistently burnt home fries and waitresses that are too busy talking to each other to do their job. my girlfriend had cold scrambled eggs, burnt bacon, burnt homefries and ice water. I had an omelette that was ok, burnt home fries and $4 for 3 strips of bacon, and coffee with no refill. Total bill was $35. Never again, there are much better options in Hendersonville. Might have been the best Diner omelette I've ever had. I we both ordered the "Pop's Omelette." The ham & sautéed veggies were perfect, along with the home fries & toast. We were in town visiting relatives and ended up there on a whim, but we will definitely be revisiting Pop's next time we are in town. From the outside it looks like a diner. I love writing about fine dining establishments, but I'm a diner guy. I love the diner; I love sitting at the counter. I love being able to talk to everybody. So I looked up breakfast diners, and it brought me here. I ordered two pork chops, scrambled eggs, grits, and a biscuit with a side of gravy. It was fantastic, simple, and filling. Coffee was great, too. Denise served me today, and I appreciate great service, and she was awesome. She informed me that it's a family business and pops, is pops and he passed on this 50's style diner to the family so it would always be a place for family. Our waitress was really nice but overburdened. The kitchen was backed up as if they only had one cook. We waited over an hour for a couple of omelettes. They don't have any person dedicated to work the cashier for people to pay so the waitresses have to do it and it keeps them away from the tables. The tables were bussed slowly. Everyone was looking around starting and wondering what was going on because the servers would disappear but they were most likely working ten cash register, making coffee and tea. Put someone on the register and have them make coffee in between pay outs so waitresses can handle their tables. The food was good. Pop's Diner was recommended by people that have lived longer in Hendersonville than I. What's-her-name and I were less impressed. We arrived late Saturday afternoon and told to sit anywhere. As expected, few other people were there at the time. The composition tile floor was dirty with food, paper products, tableware, and ordinary mud. We found a table that appeared clean among others that remained cluttered nearly the entire time of our visit. Eventually two young ladies 9 or 10 years old carried the dishes away. I approve of the early OJT, but no one ever returned to wipe the tables or chairs with disinfectant while we were there. These are COVID pandemic times. The waitress appeared after a long wait, but must have had very important business elsewhere. Whenever we ordered, she dashed off before she heard the entire request. A puzzle to decipher; a "short stack" listed on the menu is described by the waitress as three small pancakes, whereas a "regular stack" is two large pancakes. Which one shall I order? The cheap forks with sharp edged handles and the artificial "buttery spread" capped the stack. I suggest looking elsewhere unless suffering hypoglycemia at the moment. read more

My family went to Pop's Diner while visiting Hendersonville. The restaurant has a chrome 50's retro decor reminiscent of "Happy Days." The diner was filled but seemed to be understaffed. It took forever to get our order taken, and when our lunch finally came, one of the meals was missing. Everyone enjoyed our food, my pancakes and bacon were satisfying.
