I am a sucker for little mom and pop sushi joints and this place is hard not to love. The couple who runs it have that old school Japanese charm and graciousness which is hard to find these days in a restaurant setting and provide a unique cultural experience. I have eaten here 3 times over the last 4 years and have always had a great meal. The sushi is fresh and well prepared. Personally, I think the nigiri are better than the maki here at Pisces. I had 2 orders of maguro and 2 of hamachi nigiri, shrimp tempura roll, medium miso soup and house salad for $45 and everything was awesome. The miso soup here is like a main course and really good. Add a bowl of rice and it's a meal in itself. So a 5 star rating for a place the size of a closet, with only 4-6 seats, really horrible traffic, nightmare parking and a 30 minute wait or more for your food?You betcha. My family and I wanted to grab sushi to go from a local place near Manhattan Beach and Pisces Sushi was just that place! When we walked in the small restaurant, we were immediately greeted. We took a few minutes to look at the menu and make out choices. While our sushi was being prepared, several local families stopped by looking to place an order as well. It was clear that we picked a favorite local spot! Our sushi was SO FRESH and it was ready in no time. We ordered one of the shrimp tempura rolls and two of the spicy tuna. I will say that the spicy tuna was quite spicy, so if heat is not your thing be careful! I would make this a regular stop if I lived in the area! Just ring the bell if no one is in sight and she'll be right out. As far as seating is concerned, two counters with two bar stools are what you'll find inside and a table for 4 outside. No wonder loyal patrons mainly order their rolls to-go, as should you. You heard me right, I said rolls. Though they offer chirashi bowls and sashimi, I'm going to judge based on the look of things that they are known for sushi rolls more than anything. Prices range from $8.95 to $10.95 per order with 8 pieces each. We indulged ourselves in SPICY TUNA CRUNCHY, SHRIMP TEMPURA CRUNCHY, SALMON ROLL, and SPICY SCALLOP ROLL. All having several common denominators: they each had the house spicy sauce drizzled on top, rice to fish ratio was excellent, seafood was evidently fresh, and everything was satisfyingly above average in taste. We ordered 5 different rolls from the menu to-go and all of them were very good. Ran by an elderly couple that were hospitable, warm and polite. My only two complaints are that there is absolutely no street parking available. Four blocks south and west of this establishment is a public parking lot with lots of metered parking available. So even though this place looks like the type that you could go in and then out from immediately, it is not. This would not be a problem had it not been for the next complaint... There is very limited seating. And the 3 on the inside and 4 on the outside were reserved when we visited so we had to take our food somewhere else to eat. I wish I could have eaten on the sidewalk but I think I reached the point in my life where sitting down on the sidewalk in my office clothes with my legs sticking out on the street is... unacceptable. read more

There are multiple lucky cat figures dispersed around the place. The lady who served me was so, so sweet. She made sure I had everything, repeatedly. We walked down to sharkeez and had a drink while we waited. I ordered the sashimi mix salad, my sister and brother in law ordered spicy tuna and a scallop roll plus a seaweed salad. When we got home I opened it to find a sashimi mix plate with no salad. I didn't ask if it had salad but I've been to other sushi places that serve sashimi over salad so I assumed. It was delicious none the less. The fish was appropriately chilled, of high quality (well cut, firm & fresh) and a nice presentation. The seaweed salad was light, fresh and not over done. I was so excited to eat here based off of the reviews. I went in on Friday. Paid for 2 hours of parking. I walked in and it was small, started reading the menu, waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence. There was only one couple outside, overhearing their questions I think they had been waiting a while. But aside from that, to me it looked like it wasn't busy. The owner walked by me, my litter sister, and friend a total of 5 times. Not once did she look at me with a greeting, a hello, a wait a second. She ignored us entirely. Gave the couple water. Then after I asked for her attention. She said, "it's a 1 hour wait, another time okay, okay" and motioned to the door. How did she know I wasn't willing to wait for one hour? She didn't bother asking if I wanted to still place an order to go or anything. I felt so disrespected. Hope your customers keep you busy because I won't be back. read more

What a hidden gem this spot is! My manfriend and I were at the beach and we wanted sushi so I looked into yelp and found Pisces. This spot had almost 5 stars and for being what some would consider a 'hole-in-the-wall,' I was thoroughly impressed. There are very limited seats (one table outside with two chairs and a few bar stools inside) which makes this place be more of a take-out spot. Regardless, I will definitely be back! We ordered a seaweed salad which came with slices of cucumber in it and it was a good portion size. We also ordered a rainbow roll, spicy tuna crunch roll, yellowtail roll, California roll and salmon sushi. For all of that food it was around $60 and we ended up leaving with quite a bit of leftovers, for sushi that is pretty much unheard of. Everything was flavorful and we were extremely satisfied. It only comes with egg and green onions so if you're a carnivore, take it home and just add your own meats. I'm telling you right now, don't go here unless you have 2 hours to spare. I don't want to be dramatic, but this place legit ruined my birthday. We were going to get "take out sushi" and go to the beach for a bonfire and they said it'd be about 45 min for all 7 of us, and it was two hours. TWO HOURS.
