Used to be a great place for Prime Rib in particular. After the original owner Doreen passed, the place went downhill fast. It certainly was only a shadow of what it had been for the last 3-5 years. And the food and service quality suffered; while the prices kept rising. The seating area also kept falling more and more into disrepair, while the open hours were cut back more and more - and the serve staff become younger and younger (and more and more inexperienced...) Made the trip from Omaha to Crescent to try out the famous "Pink Poodle"! Wish we would have stayed in Omaha! We walked in at 5:15pm on a Friday night and there was only 1 table in the whole place full, they were leaving while we were sitting down, and then we were the ONLY table there for our entire meal. We later heard staff staying it might be dead due to graduation weekend. We were waited on fairly quickly, our service was the only thing keeping it from a 1/5. the ambiance of the place is very mid 1900s, never been updated and they are not taking care of the inside at all, some parts falling into the restaurant. The decor and instrumental music fit that with little to know windows, stuffed animals and poodles everywhere. It just seemed awkward to us and was an uncomfortable experience. The potato soup, salad, and bread were complimentary. I enjoyed the soup and the bread was solid. I had the friend chicken and it was INCREDIBLY bland, Seemed like there was no seasoning, salt, or anything that went into it. I haven't been to the Pink Poodle in quite awhile. The decor hasn't changed since I can remember. Folks go there for the beef, not the ambiance. We walked in an the reception stand seemed a bit chaotic, even though there were plenty of open tables. It took 20 minutes before our server showed up at our table. Note: At first glance it looked like much of the staff was high school kids or recent graduates. Our server, once there, was pleasant. She, although not a kid herself, seemed under trained.. . The menu was indeed "limited". My wife ordered a NY Strip, only to be told they were out! Our waitress offered a club steak, which it turns out the also didn't have... We settled on the ribeye and a sirloin. Now the positive - The soup, salad & bread were delicious (also all you can eat). Get the homemade Italian dressing! You'll thank me. The steaks were delicious and cooked perfectly! Another issue was I asked for a refill of my diet coke. After awhile the waitress told me they were out! #WTH? My take away was that the Pink Poodle is really struggling. It's no longer the place to drive 45 minutes to get a meal. However, they still put out a good, filling meal, especially the steaks. My family of eight dined there on a Saturday night and we were the only diners that night. The menu, that night, was very limited and disappointing. The cons... Instead of the hostess greeting us, she sat in her chair and asked us how many in our party before she ever stood up. She was nice enough, just not welcoming or well trained. The place smells like an old church basement. The carpets are extremely dirty! (You can see in the photo. No thats not some kind of shadow, its just cleaner close to the walls were people don't walk) Not just old, or a stain here and there. It was absolutely filthy! If the dining room is that dirty, it makes you wonder what the kitchen (that customers don't see) looks like. The texture is falling off the cracking ceiling, huge cracks in the walls. Our waitress brought our drinks out carrying them by the rim of the glass. Umm... Could I have a straw please? The soup bowls are at the table when you are seated, but the waitress takes them off the table after you order, and back into the kitchen to fill them. When the bowls are at the table, the wait staff is to bring a pot of soup and ladle it into your bowl. So ya... that was weird. When she brought our salads her thumb was actually on top of the lettuce! The sad little plate of lettuce was squished flat. I am guessing they make them up ahead of time and stack one on top of the next in the refrigerator? When the waitress sat down our salads I told her I had changed my mind and didn't want it. She never asked if something was wrong. I would have politely told her for future reference not to put her thumb in peoples food. I had the chicken alfredo. It was grainy- gritty, paste on noodles. I only had one bite and my husband had one bite. We did get a laugh at how absurdly awful it was. It was served with a thumb in the sauce and 2 pieces of garlic bread. About 1/4 of each slice was burnt BLACK. But the flavor was much worse then it looked. I tried the not black end and it tasted like it had been cooked in an oven that had just recovered from a grease fire. I would guess that it was just that dirty. My husband tried a bite and complained for quite a while that he couldn't get the rancid grease taste out of his mouth. My husband ordered a prime rib. (it is $25 now for a regular cut and that's high for the area.) He ordered medium and it was very rare. It was chewy (as most rare prime rib is) and not much flavor. Once again, I had a bite and he maybe finished 1/4 of it. Just a disappointing piece of meat. It was served with a plate of hashbrowns set directly on top of his prime rib. Why on earth don't they use a dam tray!! NOTHING is served on a tray! The waitstaff just pile plates on top of each other, carry your drink around the rim and trot out into the dining room with them! I don't get it! It wasn't just our waitress, it was everyone we saw. One gal had to have had 6-7 salads stacked up on top of each other, leaned up against her chest on her way to serve her table. Come on, you are supposed to be a nice steak house! Village Inn has more class than this. It was obvious that there had only been 1 or 2 very small bites out of the chicken alfredo. our waitress asked if I would like a to-go box and I told her no and that it tasted awful. Without apology, she then asked my husband if he would like one and he told her yes, the dog might enjoy it. She brought out our bill with absolutely no adjustment ( I would have expected to just be charged for soup and bread/butter). The waitress should have informed the manager that we were unhappy, but my husband had to ask to see the manager and tell her to take the alfredo off our bill. It still cost us $40 for bread, soup, Iced tea, lemonade, and the dog's dinner. Pros... The iced tea was fresh and brewed. The lemonade was above average. The fresh-baked bread was fresh, warm and good. The ham and potato soup was good. The waitress didn't put her finger in the prime rib au jus. The waitress was attentive and pleasant. It was essentially everything I'd imagined and hoped for. Super friendly service, small town atmosphere, way too much food, cheap prices. Saturday was my first trip to this long-standing institution and while I typically shy away from 'traditional' steak house type restaurants this one has had such good reviews and local acclaim - even on our side of the river - I couldn't pass it up. We started by ordering random drinks off the extensive menu based solely on their names. What arrived was a surprise to both us and our server, but he was a good sport about it all. I had the Snuggler, which ended up being an alcoholic hot chocolate of sorts. Other drinks ordered at the table included the Pink Grin, Yellow Bird, Harvey Wallbanger and Scarlet O'Hara. For some reason we ordered appetizers and dug into fried cauliflower and cheese cubes before the meal, which started with warm loaves of bread with butter, side salads for all, and soup served table-side (french onion or ham/bean). Then... the prime ribs arrived (because we all ordered it). It was delicious and I ate way more than I should have. The fries were just the kind I like as well. Then, we ordered some after-dinner drinks in the same fashion. Mine was the Pink Poodle, which had ice cream and who cares what else. Others were the Rusty Nail, Stinger, Fluffy Monkey and Drambuie. The best part about the drinks, which were all delicious, is that these crazy specialty drinks were only $3.75/each! Great prime rib. It came out cooked exactly as I ordered and is definitely some of the best prime rib around! The ham and bean soup was also really good even though I'm not usually a soup with steak person. They have a local mushroom medley as an appetizer I wish we would have tried - next time! Well, we had been here several times YEARS ago but not recently. I sometimes work in Crescent and suggested we go back, for the novelty of it. As other reviewers mentioned, this place is very big. And it is like stepping back in time. Very old fashioned looking. The menu is huge. Of course we were coming for the prime rib/steak. My husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the rib eye. Both of our children ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Apparently they were busy over the weekend as they had no chicken. All meals come with soup and salad. The selections were beef noodle and minestrone. Neither was great. The meat in the beef noodle was questionable and the vegetables had been so overcooked you could not tell what they were. When they bring you your iceberg lettuce salad, they bring a selection of dressings. The salad was your typical iceberg salad with croutons. The portion size of the fettuccine Alfredo was HUGE. Neither child could eat more than half so they had leftovers for the next day. My husband said the prime rib was good. My rib-eye was not. It was not flavorful at all and had a bit of a weird consistency. I could only eat about a third of the steak--it also was very large. Service was fine. Our server was a mature woman who I imagined had worked there for many years. She was very kind to the children but seemed a bit flustered at times. For me, the Pink Poodle was a nostalgic place that I had been to when my husband and I were dating. We wanted to go back for the memory of it. It may be old, but it is still the best Prime Rib around! CAUTION: The fresh horseradish will light you up! LOL I loved it! Kind like eating at your Mom's if she made this good of Prime Rib! Wow, this place is timeless. I haven't been here in 20 plus years and from the photos other yelpers have posted, it doesn't look like it's changed one bit. Its always looked like that, the waiting area reminds me of an antique store. Those dolls are really creepy, and all that oak furniture makes it perpetually dated. The odor that some have reported was there, those many years ago. It's most likely from the carpet, which I'm certain is the same carpet I once walked on, and probably had been there 15 years prior. But we went there not for the ambiance but for their delicious prime rib and their generous sides. Went to school in Omaha in the late 80's and early 90's. My brother and sister were also there during some of that time and we'd go there occasionally for a nice family dinner. The service was always good and the portions with the sides and appetizers were always in excess, which we enjoyed. The star of every meal at the Pink Poodle was the prime rib which was exceptionally prepared. Tender and seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of au jus. On one memorable night my brother treated me to dinner after I was accepted into a graduate program. We both went there extremely famished and ordered some fried mushrooms and the largest cut of prime rib, 20 plus ounces. We ate half of our meals and had the rest wrapped up. We sat there just talking about what was going on in our lives. Though we went to the same school we were both busy and hadn't seen each other for awhile. We just sat there and talked for about an hour after our meal. The funny part was that about 30 minutes in I unwrapped my left overs and started eating it again. My brother laughed, and 10 minutes later unwrapped his left overs. When we finally leaving there were no left overs. On our way home it started snowing and the roads were pretty slick. On a curving on-ramp we slid and hit the concrete barrier, I braked and went to a crawl so as not to slide back into the barrier. The car behind me tried to slow down but hit us in the rear, as did the car behind him and the car behind that one. On this on ramp, a four car pile up. We all got out surveyed our cars, and absolutely no noticeable damage. What a night. Sorry for reminiscing and rambling on. This is more about being nostalgic rather than a useful review. I never had a steak there so I can't speak to that. I can't say that it's still the same. We were last here when my daughter was a year old. We just celebrated her 25th birthday, but since almost nothing has changed I'm certain that their prime rib is as great and delicious as ever. read more

Great prime rib; mediocre everything else. I had the green beans as a side, and they were worse than the canned green beans I eat at home -- and I actually like canned green beans. It was either green beans or fries; they didn't offer any other sides. The salad was nothing special, though the creamy Italian dressing wasn't too bad. They didn't have much in the way of beer selection, either, and my friends who got the Manhattan said it was nothing like a traditional Manhattan should be mixed. To top it all off, the place is too well-lit to really have any ambiance. But, oh, the prime rib. It was right up there with some of the best I've ever had. They had three cuts -- the regular cut (12 ounces at $23.95), the cut-and-a-half (18 ounces at $36.50), and the Diamond Jim cut (24 ounces at $47.50). I had the cut-and-a-half, and by my estimate, it was a little bigger than 18 ounces -- probably closer to 20 or 21. It was perfect. Swimming in au jus, perfectly done, perfectly flavored. Read the reviews and needed a place close to the ski resort. We went zip lining and didn't want to travel to far afterwards. We walked right in and sat. Not super busy for a Saturday night. We were a little slow to order but thought things would speed up. The time between the soup and salad was a little lengthy. Both were nothing special but good. Not sure dressings were even made in house. When the meal came the waitress disappeared. We pulled condiments off other tables and waited long for water refills. The prime rib was as promised...fantastic. So what you are getting for your money food wise is worth it. The service needs servicing to come up in standards I think. We had a table of 7 but the way they served the dinner it want that hard to deal with. The menu said they add gratuity for a table of 8 our bill came and it was already added. That didn't help our feelings towards the waitress, and then we sat forever trying to pay and leave. So again... Good food. Service and atmosphere needs help. This was our third stop on our "Fox 42 Steakhouse Tour" and I was extremely pleased with both the service and the food. So far Iowa is beating Nebraska. There is nothing outstanding or interesting about the outside of the restaurant. When you go inside there is an interesting collection of dolls and pianos. For ambiance, that is about it. We got there at 6:30 and were seated immediately. The woman who seated us, Debi V, was courteous and was also our waitress. After she took our drink order, she brought us warm bread and a bowl of the Soup of The Day. Since today was Thursday, the soup was Vegetable Beef. It was delicious. Next came a lettuce salad with croutons. What makes this salad different is that they serve the salad dressing in jars on the side. They give you 4 to choose from: Blue Cheese, Thousand Island, Dorothy Lynch, and Italian. Since you get a jar, you can use as much as you want. Next came the Cut and a Half Prime Rib (18 OZ). I asked for mine rare and my wife wanted hers medium, both were cooked perfectly. The rib was one of the tenderest I have ever had and the au jus gravy was the perfect topping. It is easy to see why this is their signature meal. It was served with a baked potato, little on the small size, and came with only butter and sour cream on the side. Nothing fancy about the plating. For dessert, they served a New York Cheese Cake with Strawberry Topping, delicious. Like the other Iowa restaurant on the steakhouse tour, Tobey Jack's, it is pretty plain, with no table cloths, only placemats and paper napkins, but you don't need much when you have good food, good service, and very reasonable drink prices. My wife wants to return to try some of their steaks, I'll stay with the ribeye, but will probably add a lobster tail. We had a very pleasant and enjoyable Friday night dinner at the Pink Poodle. Service was slow, but we really enjoyed our waitress, Hannah. She was pleasant and just overall provided great service. If you are wanting a quick meal, maybe this isn't your spot. But if you are okay on time, sit back and relax and go for some good food!! All dinners come with soup and salad. Hannah brought out two big crafts of different kinds of soup; we then gave her our soup bowl that was already on the table and told her which kind we wanted. I had the potato soup which was very good! This also comes with delicious bread. I believe Hannah said it was all we could eat soup and salad, although she did not offer more once we were finished. Next came the salad, which was decent sized. Hannah brought out about 5 different dressing and a big thing of croutons. I loved that there were so many dressings to choose from, and I finally got to try Dorothy Lynch--so I finally feel like a real Nebraskan! Four of the six of us all got the prime rib--what this place is known for! They offer 3 different sizes. The meal also comes with a choice of side; I went with the hash browns which were good. As part of my latest kick to check out the 100s of steakhouses, I decided to make this an early stop on the tour based on local word of mouth. Easy to find location, old school diner feel and a bustling wait staff. We took the french onion soup option; that fell very flat. For about $21 you can get bread (your choice of white or wheat), soup (i had onion), salad (it's iceberg, but sometimes iceberg can be completely appropriate), a starch side (i had a baked potato but hash browns and fries were also an option), and a monster cut of prime rib. If that isn't a deal, I don't know what is. I'll clarify by saying I've had better prime rib before but I most certainly paid much more than $21. In fact I didn't even pay, my friends did because it was my birthday :D A nice option that is also available is that you can choose from creamy horseradish or raw horseradish. I got both and mixed them together. It was glorious. The salad also came with the option of 5 different dressings. The italian was delighful and pretty heavy on the oregano...which is something I like but if you don't care for it, then maybe you might want to avoid it. The dorothy lynch...which is like a french/russian was my favorite by far. We also got the breaded cauliflower/mushroom appetizer and the fried ravioli. Both are deep fried (welcome to the Midwest?) but neither were oily, which was pleasant. The cauliflower was a revelation. The ravioli, I would compare to deep fried mozzarella. The service was also ridiculously awesome. The only criticism I have is that the soup was probably only a little hotter than lukewarm. Forgivable in my mind. A few things to note. We called to make a res and asked about corkage for our own bottle of wine. It's not allowed. There are also glass cases of dolls that may or may not dine on your soul as you eat. 7pm on a Wednesday we headed to the Pink Poodle with some other west-coasters for a mid-west experience. They've got a terrific website jam packed with historical facts and the intrigue of a doll collection was too much to pass up. Our waitress was the kind you see in old horror movies. In fact someone remarked my plate looked like a scene from Deliverance. The menu was pretty much what you expect from a roadside diner.... iceberg salads, minestrone soup, steaks, burgers. I tried to Prime Rib and it was amazing. The meat was cooked perfectly, with each bite I was pleasantly surprised as the buttery tasting meat melted in my mouth. My cohorts ordered the steak sandwich, they were also pleased. For $20 I got a small dinner salad, some bread and butter, a bowl of soup, french fries and a piece of prime rib that covered a large dinner plate (had to be at least 3 portions). We both had the prime rib cooked perfectly. It literally melted in our mouth! But before that, Sarah brought us homemade fresh bread! It was delicious! Next we chose the Ham and Bean soup. It was so outstanding we had to take some home! I'll hide it in our fridge so I can take it to work on Monday! The owner came by to check how we were enjoying our meal and was appreciative to have our business! Sarah was an excellent and competent waitress and fun to chat with. My wife and I decided to try this establishment and were sorely disappointed. We were planning on having the prime rib but neither of us were willing to pay what they wanted. We both settled on new York strip steaks. Each steak was hard to chew and full of gristle. The potato and the rest of the sides were good. The waitress was very pleasant and was attentive to our needs. I feel that there are many other restaurants serving steaks, prime rib etc that would give you a better deal for your money. read more

Service was slooowww. I'm not sure that I can accurately convey just how slow it was without you thinking that I'm full of it. Some concessions can be made for our waitress (a sweet great-grandma type) but it was clearly also the fault of the bar and kitchen staff. You will do a lot of waiting. For everything. They start you off with 2 loaves of soft fresh bread... absolutely delightful. Then comes soup. I ordered the French Onion which was highly disappointing due to the utter lack of crusty French bread and melted cheese. It was a bowl of broth and undercooked onions. I stole a few bites of my husband's Ham and Bean soup and that was excellent though. Next comes salad, which is a plate of lettuce, one cucumber slice, and one cherry tomato. The little tray of dressings sitting right on the table is nice and the Bleu Cheese was quite good. The steak. I was foolish and did not order the raved about Prime Rib. I ordered the NY Strip. It was a generous cut for the price, nicely seared, and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, it also somehow managed to be the blandest (never thought I'd use that adjective to describe steak) cut of meat I think I've ever had. I thought about taking it home to use with my favorite steak sauce but my husband shared his au jus instead. Again, I stole a couple of bites of his Prime Rib and that was really good (as pretty much everyone says). Even better with the creamy horseradish! The fries are good and the hash browns are just ok - really not much to go into there. Finally, the House wine that accompanied my meal is a steal for $3.50 a glass and not bad at all price point considered. read more
