This used to be the best establishment back when it hole in the wall. I keep going back to pile high deli giving them multiple chances but every time I'm more and more disappointed each time I go. they're either out of sprouts, tomato, brio bread, never fails. I've never been there when they have everything that I want on my sandwich, I feel like this is being poorly managed and when you're paying 16+ dollars for a sandwich it should be fully stocked. I don't feel like the business should be complaining about how expensive tomatoes are that why they aren't carrying them. I don't see Mexican restaurants not serving salsa..... read more

I feel completely cheated because I was really craving a hot pastrami on rye today! I've been pretty loyal to Pile High but no more. I thought my last hot pastrami on rye was the worst, but no, todays sandwich was even worse. The pastrami (?) looked old and was just falling apart into teeny tiny pieces as if it had been soaking in water for hours. It's possible as it was absolutely flavorless and if blindfolded, I couldn't tell you what I was eating. Also, a pastrami on rye should be on a good Jewish rye bread not on a rye swirl which tastes and performs a lot like a soft white bread. I must say the potato salad is consistently good and the staff are nice. But ... we have so few delicatessens here, you would think the ones we do have would strive to stock the most delicious ingredients. My dream if I win the lottery is to open a little Jewish deli! read more

I got the hot pastrami sandwich and the pastrami was absolutely disgusting and very disappointing. It had no flavor. I spent $18 on a sandwich that has no flavor and on top of it. The pastrami was sitting in water on my sandwiches soggy. Nothing like hole in the wall. read more

Oh my gosh, I guess this place used to be called the hole in the wall. A lot of locals know it by that. I just moved up here and heard great things about it. Service was quick and detailed. I got a tuna sandwich that was made with tuna that was freshly caught off the coast in Trinidad up here in Humboldt. It was so good. I put sweet and dill pickles on it on the Dutch crunch roll. It was so good. I can't wait to come back and try more variety's. Great drink and chip selection as well. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Cute little shop by the bay. read more

Very personalized service. Them: "We make our tuna to order. What would you like in your tuna?" Me: "Uh, duh..." Them: "Do you like mayo, salt, pepper, relish, celery...?" The person taking my order over the phone did a lot of hand-holding and explanation providing to me, which I really appreciate. (The tuna wasn't for me and the person who would be eating it wasn't with me so it took a lot of thought to determine what he would want, so the extra patience and kindness was greatly appreciated. He liked it.) I had the avocado, cheese and sprouts sandwich on a sourdough roll - holy moley, this was a gigantic sandwich! There was at least a half of an avocado. You select whatever vegetables you want on it. I asked for lettuce, tomatoes and onions and selected smoked Gouda for the cheese. There was a perfect amount of shredded lettuce, ripe tomato and awesome onion. What I didn't find were alfalfa sprouts which I decided I probably assumed would be on it, but recall the order taker having asked which vegetables I wanted and I did not mention sprouts specifically so I think I dropped the ball on that. Amazing sandwiches. We ordered a Reuben on rye, blt with turkey, meatball and a hot pastrami sandwiches. They were delicious. Great service and patient workers that gave us plenty of options to try. They also gave us a recommendation to drive 10 min to Samoa beach to eat a picnic lunch which we did.
