Quick and friendly service + amazing food! There's a few small tables to eat at. The big menu had a bunch to offer, was hard to decide but the amazing staff helped us out. We got Carrie's and their freshly made tuna. Both were super good, only way it could've been better is if we had some veggies added to the tuna. Thank you for a great lunch!

    Carrie's Italian Sub

If you haven't been to The Grotto lately, you're missing out on some seriously good eats. This local gem is serving up the best sandwiches in town. I got Carrie's Italian Sub and it was DELISH. They have a super cute sandwich nook perfect for people watching out the window. Seems like they always have fresh bread and slice their meats/cheeses/veggies daily by using this super old school slicer. I haven't seen any other sandwich spots around town that freshly slice their ingredients like The Grotto does! I hear there are new owners and they're doing an amazing job at bringing this place back to life and providing great service. It's close to my work so consider this my new lunch spot!

    Menu

Apparently under new ownership and it is like night and day unfortunately. As you can see from my photos the Reuben the prior owner made and the Reuben the current owner makes. The price of the sandwiches in the past was acceptable because of the quality and love that was put into them. Prices haven't changed under new ownership but the quality has. It was basically some deli meat and a slice of cheese between 2 slices of sandwich bread with a very conservative amount of toppings. Didn't detect any Russian dressing. Not toasted or warm. Extremely disappointing as this was the best sandwich shop around. 2 stars for keeping the menu the same and the new owner being nice. That said, I don't think I'll be back.

    Breakfast Reuben

The Breakfast Reuben used to be good. This and the Hamerican are now served on untoasted English muffins, while is just not good. I don't know anyone who eats English muffins without a go in the toaster first. Ended up tossing the muffin and eating the contents.

The best little sandwich shop in Humboldt!

The BEST! The yummiest breakfast sandwiches and the cutest little sandwich shop run by the most delightful Paula! Old school mom and pop sandwichery of perfection! Rare to find and a joy to visit!

Best sandwiches in Eureka! The staff are so warm and friendly and it's a must if you're able to stop by when they're open.

Tiny place with some charm, friendly staff, just not a very good sandwich. Really lacks flavor and the roast beef was extremely chewy.

The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Plus they always have fresh ingredients. The cookies may be the best I've ever had.

The produce section is my ultimate fave...so many fresh fruits and veggies! Apples, pears, lemons, pumpkins, grapes, plus a huge variety of tomatoes and mushrooms (king, oyster, wood ear, shiitake, etc.). And the salad greens? Fresh kale, lettuce, lemongrass, mint, basil, yummy! I also love their bulk section, tons of grains, rice, quinoa... you name it. And their alternative milks, so many options! Honestly, this place feels like a mashup of Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, but with that local, eco-friendly heart. The store is clean and well-maintained, staff are super friendly, and there's always fun little things to discover--local soaps, chocolates, jams, honey, wine, and seasonal displays. Plus, the sushi bar upfront is delicious. They also sell cute plants, candles, totes, which makes the store feel extra fun. Yes, it's a little pricier than other supermarkets, but for freshness, variety, quality, and that special eco-friendly, local vibe, it's totally worth it. This is my go-to store. Highly recommend!

It has a similar feel to Eureka Natural Foods on Broadway except the prices are higher on some items, but the hot deli and salad bar here are just as beautiful and stocked with nutritious selections. The GF thought the sushi bar upfront is a nice touch. The chefs were preparing fresh batches of Sushi on the spot while we were there. The produce section was impressive - loads of fresh fruits, veggies - Apples, pears, lemons, pumpkins, grapes, plus a huge variety of tomatoes and mushrooms (king, oyster, wood ear, shiitake, etc.). Wood Ear mushroom? In Eureka? I couldn't even find that in some Asian grocery stores in silicon valley.
