My friend and I ordered fried wingettes, smoked wingettes, the chicken club, and a fish sandwich. The fish sandwich and chicken club were great -- no complaints. The wings were terrible. Starting with the smoked wings, they were overcooked and I just ended up sending them back -- I didn't even want them anymore. They ended up bringing out another batch that was a little better, but a few of the wings were still overcooked. The fried wings weren't as good as I remembered. Pig & Brew is a wonderful spot to dine-in or order takeout at. They offer cool daily specials and great variety of BBQ style meals. From the times I've gone, I've loved the way they flavor their meats. There is a lot of seating available indoors. The last time I visited, it was a very rainy day, so it wasn't too busy. Our server was really kind and took the time to explain things on the menu for my father-in-law. I loved the kick my minced NC-style pork BBQ had. It really elevated the flavor. The ambience is really nice... The service was impeccable. I saw so many reviews on TikTok and Instagram so I had to see what all the hype was about. I ordered 2 fish sandwiches, fries, 3 barbecue sandwiches and an order of macaroni and cheese. Well the macaroni and cheese was extremely dry and I wouldn't recommend it. The barbecue is a vinegar based and seasoned really well and served on a toasted bun. The serving size was good and the bun was toasted to perfection for me. The barbecue was seasoned really well and had a spicy finish to it. My sister said her fish was good but the fries were somewhat fried too hard for her. I was extremely disappointed with the macaroni and cheese. It was dry, I could not taste the cheese because it wasn't much in it, and the seasoning was ok. I don't think I'll visit this establishment again because it wasn't what I expected. Standard Bar-B-Que bar food but with flavor. I liked the fact you scan your phone for the menu. The prices are fair and the cocktails were tasty , not too strong but not too sweet. As for the food, I have mixed emotions. I ordered the "Fish" entree with 2 sides (Mac and cheese & coleslaw). I thought I was getting at least 2 pieces of fish with my 2 sides but only received one very dry fish sandwich instead. I am happy to say that the fish was fried to a crispy sensation. The mac and cheese was okay (little buttery for my liking). The coleslaw had an acidic taste instead of the classic creamy consistency. The show stopper for me was those SMOKED WINGS!! They were falling off the bone. Flavorfully good! The parking can be a little tricky depending on your time frame. The restaurant is seat yourself and they have a long bar seating area. Was excited to check this place out based on reviews and videos. The location is easy to find with street parking. Bright bar style restaurant with welcoming staff. Our bartender/waitress was Gigi and she was amazing. Very attentive and accommodating. The food however was disappointing. Maybe an off day. I ordered the pork ribs with two sides -Mac and cheese and the collard greens. The Mac and cheese was bland and not cheesy. Traded it for the baked beans that tasted nothing like baked beans. Almost tasted tomato based. The greens were tender. The ribs were tender however when I removed the meat I noticed the bone easily broke in half. Checked the next bone and it already appeared broken. When I pressed with my fork the bone crumbled broke completely down. I've never seen this with any ribs. Gigi was kind enough and helped me choose a replacement - shredded chicken sandwich. It was delicious. The sauce was tangy slightly smoky and the coleslaw was vinegar based so together it really complimented the chicken. Next were the wings with the omg sauce. The wings were cooked perfectly however the sauce had a weird taste to it. Hillbilly fries with the pulled chicken had a sweet taste which didn't go well with the cheese. We didn't have any drinks but the bartenders appear well experienced. We were visiting the area for the weekend and Gigi treated us as well as what appeared to be regulars. read more

10/15/23 6pm Pig and Brew on Hull Street Today I wanted a barbecue sandwich nothing fancy just a regular old-school barbecue sandwich with coleslaw. The nearest thing to me was Pig and Brew, so why not. When I walked in, I was greeted by the host, who was very very kind and helpful. I left my glasses in the car, but he was willing to listen to what I wanted and help me out. I told him that I really just wanted a plain old regular barbecue sandwich with french fries. The barbecue sandwich was spicy. Not sure if it's the coleslaw or the barbecue but I don't like spice. I took the coleslaw off, went to KFC bought some coleslaw and it was still spicy. So it was one or the other or both. I wish restaurants would tell people when something is spicy because a lot of times they don't. What's not spicy to you could be very spicy to someone else. Personally, I think hot and spicy takes away the flavor from the actual food. The french fries taste good, although they were no longer warm when I got home. If you like spicy food then check em out. If you don't, ask questions get a sample try to learn from my mistakes. Unfortunately, I will not return because of the spice it was too hot for me. $14/$15 for the two items. read more

It didn't have an impactful flavor to it. Now the ribs: MEAT WAS FALLING OFF THE BONE. So tender and flavorful. The bbq sauce did not take away from the flavor of the meat. It was a perfect ratio of sauce to meat. So dang good. This one was definitely my favorite out of the three. Pulled pork was so good. I personally am not a big fan of any kind of pulled pork but this one makes the list. The first taste of the mac & cheese was divine. It had a unique hit to it. It wasn't overly cheesy so don't expect a cheese pull or anything. It was perfectly seasoned and cheesed up. Baked beans were on point. Honestly, nothing unique about this one to me but it was delicious regardless. Corn bread was baked to perfection in my opinion. Mine had a little crisp outer corner with moist on the inside and that's just the way i like it. Overall, 10/10. Price point was exceptional for the quality of the food, beautiful establishment if you really pay attention to the details: from the ceiling tiles, the lighting, the well decorated chalk board drink menus to the purse hooks underneath the bar table. I stopped by here on Saturday evening for dinner. I'm glad this place is open as it seems all the other restaurants on the block have been closed since the pandemic. The place has fun vibes & good potential. However, they only had 1 server & about half of the restaurant was full. & our service was not worthy of 20% gratuity. I appreciate they have a happy hour everyday - I had ordered the margarita. Which was good when I finally got it, but I kid you not it was sitting behind the bar for 20 minutes & I only got it after we finally were able to flag our waitress down. They were out of at least Diet Coke & sweet tea. The Hillbilly fries were large & could be an entree. I just really didn't like the artificial cheese sauce on it, they would've been better with shredded cheese and bbq drizzled on them. The macaroni was okay but nothing special. I did really enjoy my bbq sandwich though, it was solid pulled pork NC style. I spent the block on this Manchester area staple because it had been a couple of years since I visited last. Pig and Brew has been slanging the "Best BBQ South of the James" and living up to that slogan for 5 years and still thriving! I love a good playlist and they were jamming my favorite R&B classics! I started with the refreshing Blackwell cocktail and it was really good! The bartender was super nice as well. For food I ordered the Hillbilly fries with NC pork bbq and they were tasty! The real star of my meal was the most delicious buffalo chicken club sandwich. The chicken was fresh out of the grease hot and so juicy! It also comes with a thick slice of bacon. The buffalo sauce the chicken was dipped in was perfection. It had to be one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a long time! So so good! I got the meat lovers trio and for the meats I choose brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The brisket is cooked for 12 hours. I came at 1pm and they said I would have to wait a little bit for the brisket to finish and cool down, but the head chief said he would cut the brisket as soon as it was done. I was very thankful for him to cut the brisket when it was really hot. I will say the wait for the brisket was well worth it! It smelled so good and super savory and flavorful. The meat was sliced quite thick and had a garlic butter type of sauce rubbed onto the meat. The Ribs was also excellent, fall off the bone tender. The pulled pork was served on a sandwich and served with a North Carolina vinegar based bbq. There was a great amount of meat in that sandwich. I added two sides, mac & cheese and collard greens.Both sides were amazing! Cocktail was also really good! Staff was super friendly and accommodating. The three meat trio and sides was $41 which can easily be split between two people. There was an automatic 20% gratuity included.It was a really amazing BBQ spot.
