Came in on a weeknight and they had a small, 3-piece band lightly playing to fill the atmosphere with gentle, entertaining sounds. Their menu is interesting, but I have to say I was disappointed to not find vegetarian options for their pizzas. There might have been one, but for a truly artistic place in such a liberal, artsy area, they should have had more options. Service was mixed - Our main server was forgetful and spacey... We would ask for things and he'd acknowledge and walk away only to come back a few minutes later and ask what we asked him for. Come on... Do better, management! As for the food - The pizzas really needed a slightly higher temperature and about 30 seconds more. The meatballs were cold inside and the sauce was luke warm. The Calabrian cauliflower was also on the cool side - very odd considering we saw char marks on them. Hmm... The flavor of the pizzas was nice though, but it would have been so much better if it was a little more charred and crusty. Whats Good Yelp Nation, This place came through in the clutch to save my lunch date with my wife. After being turned away by another pizza place I will not name. We were welcomed in at Brickfire. The ambiance is great, a mix between corporate and upscale casual. There were a couple of businesses groups having lunch while we were there. The food was great, the pizza needed just a little more char on the crust. If you leave our pizza in just one more minute it would have been perfect. The flavor was great, the ingredients had all the tell-tell signs of being super fresh. I love a high moisture mozzarella cheese that really melts and becomes almost like a creamy sauce. Slightly disappointed in our visit. We've been before and had a good experience. This time was not so great. The food and cocktail menus are good! The appetizers sounded great. They arrived to the table disappointing. The flavors were there, but the quality of the food prep was rough. The bar tender informed us that they had changed the menu steak item (just cut replacement) and that they were out of certain cocktail items to make some of the drinks. I don't often leave reviews; I seldom do. I normally save my words for fantastic (or the opposite end of the spectrum!) service. This is genuinely one of my new favorite places. The owner was absolutely delightful -- he even took the time to sit with me. Every single person who came by my table was an absolute delight, and so, so kind. The bartender was beyond knowledgeable, and made a drink for me based on my favorite tastes. The pizza was fantastic -- genuinely, one of the best I've ever had, if not the best. And the off-menu tiramisu? Absolutely to die for. It was a beautiful place. I, regretfully, live outside of the area. I do know that whenever I'm in town, this place is on the top of the list. We recently moved to RVA and to celebrate becoming permanent residents why not head out for a meal on the town. We landed on coming to Brickfire and this spot did not disappoint. We tried a few things off the menu: the roasted cauliflower (perfectly seasoned), crispy calamari (to die for), and a pizza that was damn good. But the real star of the night? The Brickfire Old Fashioned, hands down one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Great atmosphere too. Visiting from out of town, I stopped by Brickfire to satisfy a craving for authentic Neapolitan pizza, and it did not disappoint! I started with the arugula salad and calamari. The salad was fresh and crisp, but the calamari was just okay. Out of the pizza options, I chose the Brickfire Signature Burrata Pizza, which was nothing short of amazing. This was 6pm Friday night. No reservation but after some convincing from another customer waiting for a table, the busy hostess decided she could squeeze us in at the bar after she cleaned the table. We had a glass of super tuscan and an old fadhioned. The wine was fine the old fashioned was fine, kinda weird all spice or something in it, meh. The place was pretty empty by the time we got our drinks though. Got the meatball pizza and the Brickfire house special pizza. They came out fairly quickly but not together, which was fine. The crust is really nice, the pizzas overall were just ok. Our waiter was nice, he didn't hang all over us which we appreciate. They seem to take themselves pretty seriously for a pizza place. The service was a little slow, it took awhile to get our alcoholic beverages. I got the flower power cocktail which I really enjoyed. Sweet, floral, and fizzy. Very fresh feeling. I wish they put a little flower on top like in the picture. My husband and I shared the mushroom pizza. I didn't taste much mushroom. They put arugula on top of everything, and I felt that was very over powering. Not a good move. Minimal flavor on the pizza, I wish the dough was more charred. These are the times I wish I could give in between ratings lol! We actually wanted to go to Dinamo but we didn't get there timely enough to get a spot without reservations. Been wanting to try this spot. It was actually delicious. The pasta was definitely a five, I would come back here just to eat the pasta. Pizza was good too, but we all wished it was cooked a little longer. Funny because the menu warns that they can't control the char so pretty much apologizing if the pizza is slightly burnt, we had the opposite problem (granted we had leftovers, and they were great in the air fryer lol). The drinks were also super tasty! Calamari was okay... we thought they maybe double fried it for too long but the aioli was tasty. While in town for cheer competition a group of 16 of us made reservations at Brickfire. They were super accommodating and allowed us to make reservations a few hours before we arrived. The place was well lit, clean and cozy. Our server gave us menus, answered all questions and gave us time to make a decision. I ordered a lemon drop and cheese pizza. The drink good but would have been great if I went with a different type of tequila. The pizza was freshly made and super delicious. It was so good I ate the whole thing. New restaurant alert! Brickfire has been open for 8 months. I visited late October but before Halloween 2025. Hubby and I met up for an unplanned date night. The ambiance was serene, cozy, chic, and modern wrapped in a nice bow. We set at the bar. Shandy (like the drink) our bartender was on point with top notch customer service. Perfect mixture of small talk, smiles, and speedy service. He said it was sorta busy for a Wednesday night and 20 pizza orders were ahead of ours. Since it was date night (and no kids mind you), we didn't mind waiting. Two big TVs were at the bar. The hostess was a sweetheart too. Shandy recommended the Old Fashioned. Forty plus years on this earth and it was my first one. I liked it. Shandy said people usually make it too sweet, but this one was not. Calamari was crispy but not greasy. A tad spicy cuz of the jalapeños, but I liked the kick of flavor. Babe usually loves a supreme pizza. Shandy recommended that we not get too many toppings cuz it would make the pizza soggy. Babe opted for pepperoni and sausage. Honestly that's all you need if you're a meat lover. Pizza was 9.5 outta 10. Crust was really good. It was easily accessible on a Friday at 5 PM. I love sports but wouldn't consider it a sports bar and that's okay as it is more upscale than a sports bar to me which is ideal for the location. I think this restaurant has great potential!! I can tell that they are still figuring things out, but their vibe/food is fantastic. We got there right at 5pm on a Saturday and we were one of 2 tables filled, but as the clock approached 5:30/6pm, it really filled up! Every table in our section was filled and every guest seemed happy. Favorite of the 2 pizzas was by far the prosciutto and arugula pizza! Absolutely delicious, and they are generous with their toppings. The calamari was delicious, and it was a generous portion. Their calamari dish is mixed with fried jalapeños & peppers to make the plate seem fuller, but even so there was so much calamari we didn't finish it! Only "con" on anything was that our pizza's did taste slightly underdone. The crust was fantastic on the bottom, but as we bit into our slices we noticed it was still semi-doughy. The restaurant has been open about a month and I still think they're working out kinks. They have a real Woodfire oven where they're making some incredible appetizers. We particularly enjoyed the cauliflower and making Woodfire pizzas. They were out of the mushroom pizza which was quite shocking on a Saturday night pretty early in the evening. I think the pizzas could've been cooked a little bit more but we really enjoyed their tomato sauce. We had a wide variety of drinks and I really loved my old-fashioned. In fact that might be my favorite besides the cauliflower. We will definitely return. I think I give it about a 84% on 100% scale. Tried to walk in tonight. The majority of the staff was outside smoking pot. Smelled gross inside and out. My only option was to sit at the bar, which coincidentally was the only functional staff member. Several tables seated with all staff outside. Wouldn't have enjoyed a meal with the smell.
