Had been wanting to try this place since we went to the Pierogies Festival, where we heard they weren't going to be. Made our way out to McKees Rocks and it didn't disappoint! Definitely top 2 pierogies in the city next to Butterjoint. Got the No. 2 and 3 samplers and both hit the spot. Pierogies melt in your mouth with a light melted butter sauce and onions. Could barely tell where the dough ended and the filling began! The kielbasa was ok, nothing that blew me away but it paired really well with the pierogies. Same for the Haluski, big portion with just enough flavor to separate it from just noodles. Service took less than 15 minutes and we ate at the little tables right outside to have them fresh. This was on our 'bucket list' (yes, THIS place) when we stayed in Pittsburgh, as we never had experienced PIEROGIES before! We JUST 'squeaked in' prior to 5:30 PM when they stop selling hot food (or run OUT of food). Yes, it's THAT popular! We bought the #1 sampler with potato and cheese pierogi and also an order of the sauerkraut/potato pierogi to split. They pour a mild butter/onion sauce over the noodles and I bought extra to pour on EVERYTHING! :D My favorite was THE CABBAGE ROLL AND THE POTATO CHEESE PIEROGI. Let's start with, I will return. Orders the Sampler Platter #1 and it was packed! The Haluski was great and the cabbage roll was tasty. The pierogi was just ok. I like mine seared. I'm also not sure what the onion sauce or butter sauce is on things. I rang the bell at the window and waited a good 8 mins for someone to acknowledge me. My sister makes amazing homemade pierogies, but this place gives hers a run for their money. Our family has been going there for as long as I can remember. Since I was a kid living in the Rocks...and I'm old now. The food you get here is AUTHENTIC! The owners are originally from Warsaw, Poland so they know what they're doing. They do a lot of fun fillings that you wouldn't normally expect. For instance, on my last trip home, there were pickle-filled offerings as well as taco-filled filled. Yes, of course I got both! In addition, I bought the classic potato and cheddar. I love that you can also buy broken pierogies. There is a limited menu of items served hot on-site, but many options that you can take away to cook at home. However, one of the things you can get on-site is a platter. They have a few different sampler options. Some of the other amazing comfort food they have: Haluski (dumpling or noodle) Kielbaska Soups Kraut and so on... The best part is that if I get the urge to have some of their pierogies, I just call them up and have a shipment sent to me in Austin. read more

Visited this shop for the first time over the summer for lunch. The staff was nice, but there was a wait to be able to order at the walk-up window. There is some outdoor seating, but it is limited. I got the #2 sampler platter to get a taste of everything. The kielbasa was good, but the haluski and the pierogi could have used a little more seasoning to add some flavor. What a shame. I've heard really good things about this spot and I can't say they lived up to the hype. First the lady at the register seemed very annoyed with me and when I asked for a recommendation she said "anything it's all good" Don't get me wrong the pierogis themselves were solid. The filling could be more but The sauerkraut inside the one was fucking awesome. They all were the right amount of density in the dough and cooked perfect. But that butter. It ruined it. 80% of each bite tasted like butter.. Just like Botox, more doesn't mean better The noodles in the Haluski were undercooked and SUPER lacking in the cabbage department. Needed more salt for me too. Doesn't mean I wouldn't inhale it. I paid my money !! The Halupki is insane. I do highly recommend going for that if you wanted stuffed cabbage. If you want pierogis though I have a few others I like more. I do love the location of it. It's a remodeled old gas station. That was sweet. The hours are wonky and you can only get hot food before 4, and limited to 2 entrees which I actually enjoy as well. Bonus for the dudes in the back yelling in polish Huge positive here is that it's cheap as fuck. That whole meal was $22. The sample platter was $12.99 and the Sauerkraut & Potato was $7.99. When you go to Pittsburgh, you get pierogies. It's what you do! Okay, not to break out an old slogan, but this place in particular is pretty popular around the area. Perhaps justifiably so? I have to temper my review because I didn't have pierogies from any other spot in the area for comparison, but I was overall pleased with my order. The pierogies were hot, fresh, and bountiful! Stuffed with potato, cheese, and we did get one order with meat. The orders were large and plentiful, too. My advice to them is to remove the political propaganda from their outside decor, but the food was very good. Stick to that! Do note if you're not familiar, there is a small amount of seating under a patio out front, but there is no inside dining area. This is primarily takeout. read more

Amazing!! This place lived up to the hype, ya'll. I'll be reminiscing on this meal for weeks to come. We ordered our carryout Polish feast and enjoyed it back at our hotel. I'm happy to report I brought a cooler bag for the trip so we also purchased a dozen frozen pierogis. Our dinner consisted of the number one sampler (cabbage roll, four pierogis and noodle haluski. The number two sampler consisted of kielbasa, four pierogis and a gnocchi dumpling like pasta. I was surprised to find that I loved the sauerkraut dumpling even more than the potato. This was one of the best cabbage rolls I've ever had as well. Our feast was plenty to feed the three of us- buttery lips and full tummies. There were so many other things I wanted to order on the menu like the hunter stew, borscht soup and apricot cream dessert pierogis--- next time! The staff was friendly and down to business. As for the ambiance, this more of a grab and go kind of place with only two small cafe tables out front. You order from a window and they stop serving hot food at 5:30. Amazing polish food, best pierogies in the city and outskirts. The cottage cheese and chive pierogies are a must try and my absolute favorite - yes, it sounds weird but they're sooo good! The standard potato and cheese are also delicious. Very reasonable prices. Recently tried the potato dumpling haluski which was good and different but I think I prefer the traditional noodle kind. Had some relatives coming back to town for the holidays and they asked for pierogis. Have stopped by a few times when in the area to pick up a few dozen to take home and cook. Arrived a little before opening at 11 and there was already a line. You can get a cooked meal for take out 9during the summer there usually are a couple of outdoor tables) or by the dozen and there are other items including Haluski and stuffed cabbage. There are a lot of variety but some you have to order in advance. Usually get some of the more standard like potato & cheddar, sauerkraut, and some hot sausage. Usually get the hoodie Haluski too. There are a few ways to cook at home and the website has different methods. All are very good. Sometimes cook up some kielbasa to go with it. A classic meal that everyone enjoys! read more

This is a funny place. It is NOT a restaurant, so don't plan on eating here. It's a take-out stand and you can take your pierogis home (preferable) or eat them with a flimsy plastic fork from a foam tray in your car, risking spilling melted butter in your lap (not preferable). The counter help is sometimes unpleasant, but that's not a big deal for take out. Sometimes it is an incredibly long wait for your order even if you're the only one in the place and it's a simple order. The redemption of course is that the pierogis are great, plump and delicious. Sometimes I've ordered them with a piece of kielbasa which isn't anything special but it's good and goes well with them. They have a few other things such as stuffed cabbage, but the pierogis are what keeps people coming back. One other thing... they are CLOSED on both SATURDAY and SUNDAY, can you imagine having a restaurant or food vendor that's closed all weekend? read more

Parking lot is right off the street and always looks pretty full so I figured it was high time too see what it's all about. When I walked in I immediately saw two glass cases filled with all the food and dessert options that hadn't already been sold out, and a menu to look through. As this was my first time I was most interested in trying a variety of things and ordered the Sampler #1. This option came with a stuffed cabbage roll, four pierogies, and haluski. I tried the Potato and Cheese, potato, sauerkraut, and hot meat pierogies. While each was good in its own right, I most enjoyed the meat one since it had a bit of a kick. Everything was fresh and tasty and the wait staff were very helpful as well. Definitely think I'll be stopping in more frequently. read more

Really good perogies, in my experience, are something that I could only get at church fundraisers. This place has shown me that that's not the case. I got to try a number of their dishes and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. I tried the potato/cheese pierogi and ground chuck. The ground chuck was fine, but that's due to my own preference. There wasn't anything wrong with them. The potato and cheese were the big hit and they were filled nicely, neatly, and the dough had the softness and tenderness that can be hard to get in a pierogi. The dish came with sauteed onions loaded in butter. The onions were cooked nicely and I felt like you got a respectable portion. I tried both of their haluski dishes. Everybody loved the potato dumpling, me included. Like the pierogi dough, the dumplings were tender and were enjoyed even by some older folks that have had plenty of experience making their own haluski. In addition to the dumpling, I enjoyed the cabbage/noodle haluski equally. I've always enjoyed cabbage and just like everything else, it was tender, cooked nicely, and was tasty. Considering that the food was good and there were multiple dishes, I think what I enjoyed most was that it sort of took me back to childhood, especially with some kielbasa added. Pierogies!! Good stuff especially if you know what they are. In town for a wedding and opted to NOT go to Permanti Bros (go now, it's delicious) for a change. Found myself here after both Yelp and TV Network recommended this place. I don't know anywhere outside of Pittsburgh to even get Pierogies, so when it Pitt eat as they do. The pierogies are good and come in a variety of flavors. Two dozen and a few drinks was 30 bucks so it didn't break the bank, but not exactly cheap. Tons of people walked up to the window so you know the place is legit. Worth checking out! Locals and tourists alike. Have sandwiches and other Polish dishes, too. You can order online. I do have one thing: by no means am I a Polish food connoisseur, but these tasted good and I would go again. They swear this is as close to Warsaw as you'll get! read more

Deep down inside I know I have a week spot for anything potatoes. With my background, when you add dough to this mix, I get week in the knees. I have been wanting to come here for the longest time, and finally made that a reality. I do have to say, if you are expecting to come here and have a huge dine in experience, better rethink that. I'm not saying that you can't, but you really can't. Let me explain. You order your food inside at a small counter and then you wait. You get your food and most people literally roll out of the parking lot. However, there is a small area outside with a few tables that you can sit at if you do not want to take it to go. That's what we did. It did not take very long for our food to be ready. When I looked at my food I thought that I was given the wrong thing, but it was my fault. I really wanted the kielbasa but my eyes played a trick on me and I got the stuffed cabbage. I am not the biggest fan of cooked cabbage, but somehow they made it edible for me. I really did enjoy it, but don't count on me doing that again. What I wanted to focus on was the pierogies. I love pierogies, and these did not disappoint. They are huge. I am not exaggerating on that. These are not the pierogies you find in other area restaurants let alone the grocery store. These were the biggest pierogies I have ever seen. It's like they filled the palms of their hands to the brim and then wrapped it all in dough. And whoever is doing this has some big hands. Each bite of these I had to keep myself from rolling my eyes back in my head. I was in heaven. The butter and onions with each bite was amazing. I could go back right now if I could. If you do get it to go, they do an incredible job of wrapping this up so that it will not leak out. In a food container, then into a clear bag and then inside another bag.
