Mmmmmmmmm!! I love this place!! Their gyros and stuff grape leaves are amazing. It's hard to find a great gyro in Pittsburgh. Growing up in southside I compare every gyro to the famous shop everyone knows from the southside. So living a cross the river and finding this gyros melts my mouth. Try it. You will love it read more

I went here for lunch with my work and the place was pretty empty. Can't really say much about the staff because they just take your order but don't serve the food to you. it did take very long time to get the food so if you are in time crunch, I wouldn't recommend going here. read more

Really tasty Gyros and quick service. I loved the fries as well. Perfect for takeouts!

Pretty decent place, definitely good gyros. The kebabs and other Mediterranean food leave a little bit to be desired. They also have traditional "American bar, food" with burgers and fries and wings. Maybe trying to be all things to all people? read more

First off, I have been searching for a Gyro in Oakland - and was looking forward to trying Forbes Gyro. This place was just bad. I saw the man working there take the lamb meat from a tin pan and put it under a spinning plate heater. I asked if he could please cut fresh lamb off the spit and he said this was fresh and how he makes it. I trusted him - this was not fresh. The meat was so dry it was hard to swallow and had no flavor - I had taken the sandwich to go or I would have just returned it. I even had a hard time finding the Gyro sandwich on the menu- that should have been a warning. Easy to find hamburgers- maybe they should just change the name to Forbes Hamburgers. This Gyro was "hell" no, never again. The wall mural was uninviting, the atmosphere unfriendly, the Gyro sauce was not good and the pita was not fresh. to top it off I asked the guy to make it fresh and he refused. I want my money back. I paid $8.99 for a total worthless sandwich that was not fit for anyone to eat. Students, faculty, bar hopppers, hospital workers and patients beware, I learned the hard way by trying and should not have tried this place- take my advise and pass on this terrible takeout restaurant. read more

I've walked past Forbes Gyro many times and never stopped in, but last night I was looking for something quick, easy, and available on uber eats. So that was Forbes Gyro. All in all? It was okay. The chicken gyros were okay -- the meat was almost cubed, which I found a bit strange for a gyro. Tasted fine, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The grape leaves were also fine. Th baklava was fine, but not very crispy. Definitely recommend Ali Baba over on Craig St for grape leaves and Mike and Tony's in the Southside for Gyros. But Forbes Gyro is a perfectly okay place to get dinner in a pinch. read more

My friend and I ordered pickup from here since we are still on a stay at home order. Overall we had a decent experience - not the worst but not the best. Food - Don't get me wrong, the Gyro I had was amazing!!! I can't say the same for the fries.. Honestly I tried one and didn't eat any more because they were bland. But if you are into that you'd probably enjoy them. Service - The food was prepared quickly, but unfortunately they forgot to give us the drinks we paid for.. We didn't notice until we got home, but we didn't bother to call since we didn't feel like driving back to get them. read more

Forbes Gyro - Gyro Pita, Gyro Wrap, French Fries, Pita Bread - Pizza Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This is definitely an Oakland institution. I really like the chicken wraps and my boyfriend is a fan of the gyros. Been coming here for years and here's the thing I don't get, the fries are never good. Never. Always greasy, limp and soggy. So, don't order the French fries and you'll have a great meal. Sometimes the service sucks. Every now and again you'll get an order taker with a real annoyed attitude. Blah. read more

HORRIBLE I repeat HORRIBLE! Never felt to slighted in my life involving takeout food. I stopped and ordered a gyro and falafel a hour ago. I got home and started to dig into the scrumptious smelling falafel and my tongue was immediately hit with the God aweful taste of either rubbing alcohol, fermented mouse droppings or some other taste that should not be on anyone's food. Whatever they fried my falafel in was obviously not supposed to be in there because I broke it apart and the inside tasted fine. My gyro was as basic as it gets from the place that claims to have the betb gyro in the city. You have no idea how bad I wanted to go back to the shop and curse out the owown in front all the customers he is scamming. I kind of felt someone was odd about him when I went in and could 5ell he didn't want to serve me anything but I shrugged it off. DO NOT ODER FROM HERE TRUST ME Update: just called the owner and he implied I did something to the food on my way home LMAO what a joke...then he says we'll the grease we use is old ... Well obviously it is along with something else your not admitting ‍ read more

The food at Forbes Gyro has drastically improved since opening a few months ago. I ordered a doner plate with a spinach pinwheel pastry. The doner was more flavorful and had a nice crisp texture. The rice had bits of a small brown ingredient which made the rice very tasteful too. I was unable to identify it, but my friend suspected it was a type of nut. The pastry was good too! I liked how flakey it was, but it was a tad too greasy. Also, they have now expanded their menu to include American and Turkish pizza. read more

Do I recommend this business? YIIIEESSSSIIIIRRRRR. After a night of visiting restaurants that lied about their closing time I was feeling famished. My colleagues and I had the immense privilege of visiting a hot local spot tonight: Forbes Gyro. Upon entering, I already knew we were in for a special treat. The décor inside was simple, but it was clear the restaurant was kept clean. The seating arrangements were aged like fine wine, and it was evident that they had been used often, indicating the location's popularity. We were greeted with a beaming smile from the location's proud owner, Jacob. He gleefully took our orders, and was quick to offer his pen when mine ran out of ink. That's just the kind of guy Jacob is. You know when you eat at Forbes Gyro that you're getting that famous Oakland hospitality that attracts students from all over the world. One issue that arose amongst my associates was the notable absence of individual slices of pizza on the menu, but you know what they say: never order pizza in a gyro place. Either way, the menu was somewhat unclear, and even lead to some confusion amongst the group as to what was offered. I ended up opting for the classic lamb gyro, which arrived in a timely manner. My gyro was wrapped in a soft warm pita, and was filled with the delectable combination of juicy lamb, fresh lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and just a pinch of onions. Drizzled throughout the gyro was what one can only assume to be homemade tzatziki sauce. The lamb was tender and well-seasoned. I was enjoying my experience until I opted to sample my colleague's fries. Much to my chagrin, the fries were rather bland as initially served. When paired with the authentic Greek salt offered at each table, the quality of the side dish improved significantly. All-in-all, Forbes Gyro was an unforgettable experience. My 45-minute expedition to the land of the Mediterranean ended abruptly when I stepped back out onto the mean streets of Oakland. Whether you are study the trends of the DOW, or spend your days examining the works of da Vinci, Forbes Gyro has just a little something for everyone. read more

Just ordered gyros and a milkshake. Almost inedible. The meat was extremely dry and tasted more like steak-umms. Tzatziki was watery and so was my "milkshake". Won't be returning or placing an order here ever again. read more

Good gyros at a good price. After passing by this place everyday, I finally decided to go in and try it with a friend. We were surprised to find that the food tasted much better than the restaurant's decor suggested. I had the chicken gyro with pita. The meat was tasty, lettuce crunchy, and sauce was dripping on the table (sorry). The portions are also quite large (especially for the price) and I was VERY full by the time we finished. read more

I'm on a gyro kick right now and while in the area decided to stop by. The girl at the counter was friendly but communication was a bit of an issue. She asked me 4x to confirm that all I wanted was a gyro on pita. The gyro itself was ok and It was served piping hot. I do have a couple complaints though. The lettuce and tomato weren't the freshest. Also the tzatziki sauce just didn't hold up to the rest of the gyro. It just wasn't as creamy as I would have liked. I prob won't be back there are several other options in the area for gyros. read more

One of the best gyro around south o people!! I was hesitant going into bc of some reviews, but the quality of this place proved them all wrong. The people who work there first of all are so kind. And the gyros are to die!! No meat overload to the point where it's too much, but they don't skimp either and the lamb is crisp and juicy. Pita is top quality, they also make them super quick and have to put in no time. Just the right amount of sauce too, and you just can't beat the price either. I was never a big Mediterranean/Greek eater before, but Forbes Gyro confirmed my love for the gyro scene!! read more

Forbes Gyro - Pita gyro - Pizza Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

My wife and I tried this place for the first time while visiting the museum. We got the regular gyro, the kofte wrap but on pita with gyro sauce and the lamb Adana wrap also on pita with gyro sauce. I have to say that was the best tasting food I've had in a long while. Now as a big guy I try a lot of places but this was so good I'll be making trips just to get some. Not only was the food amazing but the service was great, older gentleman taking orders and making the food was so polite and these days that alone is worth stopping by but again I can't stress how damn good the food was. read more

If you're gonna name the store after a gyro then that gyro better be pretty special. The pita bread was thin and dry and pita shouldn't be used in classic gyro. The rice was oily and unseasoned. The tzatsiki sauce was bland and tasted like watered down plain yogurt. They forgot my fries too. I mean the food was decent and the amount of food was great for the price. I just expected from their gyro. The number in their yelp page is also wrong. Halal Pitt has a better gyro than these guys for about the same price. read more

I actually downloaded the app just to share my horrible experience. I ordered a ranchero pizza for me and the kids. After an hour I called them and the owner said he's sending a driver in 5 minutes. I then get a call from the driver saying he's 16 minutes away. He then calls me 40 minutes later telling me I lied about my address (I've lived here for over a decade). So, despite trying to stay safe I had to go outside and wave him down. He was wearing 0 safety gear, the pizza was cold and didn't even have ranch. Super unprofessional. If you like bad food, being insulted, and risking Covid then visit this place. read more

Pros: delicious gyros, pizza, fries, ice cream and more! If you're not terribly adventurous the only thing I'd suggest is staying away from the Turkish pizza, but I've never tried it. I've heard it's good! You can call in an order or use GrubHub for delivery too. They're very quick. Fries are crispy, but they sometimes don't have enough salt. Ice cream is fantastic if you're there and want something delicious and refreshing. Nice and cool inside during the summer and warm and cozy in the winter. Cons: communication is a little difficult since some of the cashiers don't speak English as their first language. If you want to modify an order, clearly describe it. They sometimes forget to modify it. It's not the cheapest place to eat for broke college students, but if you go every so often it's not breaking the bank. A gyro runs for 7.49 for a wrap, but it's pretty huge. read more

So I've started recently working in Oakland on the Pitt campus and I went there a handful of times, The first time it was really good, but after that it's just been absolutely below average the fries taste stale and the gyro meat taste old and hard to chew and they only give you 3 ketchup packs! If you're near Pitt's campus and need something quick and delicious, Gyros on Forbes is definitely worth the try. It opened relatively recently and I've quickly become a regular. I've had food delivered from here using Grubhub and thought that the food was pretty decent! Just based on the food - I would give it a 3-star. However, the most recent time I stopped by the store in-person, I tried their raspberry ice cream in a sugar cone and it was DELICIOUS! It was only $2.13 and they are pretty generous with the portion! I am a big fan of Dave and Andy's across the street but in terms of affordability and flavor, I will probably find myself coming here more often for ice cream. They also accept credit/debit cards here which makes it more convenient. Kind of weird to be supporting this place mostly because of their ice cream but if you want some good dessert, then definitely give this place a try! read more
