Let me describe Cop Out like this... Think of any Friday during lent. Walking hand in hand with your grandma. Uphill, usually in the rain or, more likely, snow flurries. Think of walking into the basement of her old, very old, church. Looking around at all the old white haired ladies, (old is relative now...) as they smile and have a word or two or ten for everyone who walks into the door. Think of the smell of frying onions. Frying in lots and lots of butter. Grandma taking you by the hand, telling shy you to say hi to her friend Dorothy or Deloris or Irene. (No Taylors or Brianna's here, thank you very much). Grandma let's go of your hand while she digs into her little change purse for her rolled up bills and some loose change on the bottom. She smiles at you as she hands you an extra quarter - you smile back because you know that means cake at the little table in the back of the room. Grandma takes two plates, each holding a handful of lightly pan fried, doughy (but not too doughy) pierogis. Covered in fried onions and dripping with butter. A dollop of sour cream on the side. Today it's potato and sauerkraut. Last week was potato and cheese. I can't wait to see if next week is farmers cheese. If you can close your eyes and remember that walk. If you can still see Gladys. If you can still taste the buttery onions. If you can still feel the love that you and your grandma shared. If you can do all of this, then I can guarantee you will love Cop Out. For those of you who have never experienced pierogis purchased in a church basement during lent; I still guarantee you'll like Cop Out. I live 800 miles away. I can't think of a single church that serves pierogis, especially homemade ones. We are in the Deep South, afterall. I do take my grandkids to fish fries during lent. I hope I'm making similar memories for them, though even the best piece of fish fry fish is no match for the pierogis that both the church ladies and Cop Out dish out. read more

A friend was in town for the weekend and wanted to get some pierogies. We decided on Cop Out Pierogies because of their wide variety of flavors, and it was perfect!! This place is no-frills, you'll be eating off of paper plates if you eat at one of the few tables inside, which is exactly what you want in a pierogi place. Everyone there was also so friendly and made us feel so welcome. We ended up going with orders of the potato and sauerkraut, cheddar jalapeno, and mac and cheese pierogies. You get 14 to an order with caramelized onions included and optional sour cream for a bit extra. All 3 flavors were delicious! I appreciated that they asked if we wanted them separate or if we were going to share. We wanted to share, so they put them all on one plate for us. I can't wait to come back and try more flavors! It's a small neighborhood restaurant (probably seating only for 10-12) and wonderful place to get Pierogis. Husband and wife runs the place and they are so friendly and caring. We bought their popular potato+cheese+jalapeños pierogis (hot) and they were all hand made and so good. It was our first time and We loved it. The restaurant serves pierogies in a variety of flavors: potato and cheese, potato and sauerkraut, sauerkraut, potato-cheese-jalapeno, macaroni and cheese, breakfast, buffalo chicken, cheeseburger, lekvar, chicken marsala, chicken parmesan, cottage cheese, gyro, sausage, pepperoni pizza, pepper but, potato-bacon-sauerkraut, reuben, shrimp-grits-bacon, spinach-feta, sweet potato, a few dessert flavors, etcetera. The restaurant also serves other Eastern European foods such as haluski, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, and Chrusciki cookies. Customers may order hot or frozen foods either in person or through the delivery website Insider Eats. I ordered several of Cop Out's foods through Insider Eats. The hot foods arrived hot, and the frozen foods arrived frozen. I thought that everything--the Polish potato pancakes, the haluski, the sauerkraut pierogies, the potato-cheese pierogies, the lekvar pierogies, and the Bavarian-cream pierogies--were very fresh and tasted very good. Love these guys. You get 14 pierogies in a "dozen" bag. Been there several times. Last time, just before Christmas. Like their cheese pierogies and their prune pierogies best but thought we'd try some new ones. We opted for Reuben pierogies and shrimp and grits (mostly because I was going to be taking these down to Raleigh, North Carolina for Christmas.) And, guess what? First time I tried it that way and now I'm hooked on it. And the Haluski was made with dumpling noodles. Outstanding. And the staff were absolutely the best. Don't let the monochromatic nature of Polish food fool you, Cop Out Pierogies is delicious! I ordered a bunch of things from them and loved everything. The pierogies (both dessert and hot) were packed to the brim and the potato pancakes were delightfully crispy. I also really enjoyed how flavorful the stuffed cabbage and the haluski were! But if you're looking for healthy, be aware that this place is not the place for you. There was butter and/or oil pooled at the bottom of my pierogi container and leaking out into the takeout plastic bag but that made popping leftovers in the air fryer later very easy. I've been to the storefront itself once and it's a tiny hole in the wall place that can be easy to miss. You're definitely going there for the food and not the vibes. From what I remember, there's super limited seating and I would recommend getting everything to go and eating it elsewhere because of that. This place was good, I prefer my Pierogies to be a bit more embellished, crispy and more strongly seasoned, but they weren't bad. They have gluten free options which is pretty cool. One of the workers was handing out desert pierogies, I think they were strawberry cheesecake, and they were so freaking delicious! I do wish they had different sizing options and a more comprehensive description of what was in each pierogi. Bc on the menu some of the names were kind of vague. I was kind of disappointed that all the pierogies were frozen not fresh, especially for the price. read more

For locals, they have all flavors ready in pre packaged frozen bags wirh easy to follow cookimg directions. They staff treated us as family and were so friendly. Updating my review again after communication from the owner? Manager? He never told me who he was. Carl has decided that my review was fake, that i couldn't have possibly had a bad experience, and that all the newspaper and TV attention means that nobody should be allowed to say anything that disagrees with the glowing reviews. I have no doubt that at some point many people have enjoyed the food here. I'm not sure if the food was lackluster on the day I went in, or if eating these foods from scratch for many years has made me a tough critic. (For real though, the noodles in the haluski were mush.) Nevertheless, the response from Carl was unprofessional, ungracious and unkind, and I have zero desire to return. I don't usually regret spending money at a restaurant even if I don't like it, because even bad experiences broaden our minds. In this case, I regret the $50 I spent. We love pierogi's and get them whenever traveling in the north east. These pierogi's were amazing and they had such exceptional variety, flavors I've never seen anywhere! The potato pancake serving was huge and crisp on the outside and so tasty on the inside. I'm a vegetarian and so ate that and a great mix of pierogi's but my friend ordered the kielbasa sandwich and loved it! I highly recommend this place! Excellent! We went for the first time after hearing about them for years since we moved to Pittsburgh. The people who own it are some of the sweetest people we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They went out of their way to accommodate me, my husband, our 2 small girls and my cousin. We had ordered a lot of food so they brought over a separate small table so that we could put some of it on that and not have our table too crowded while we were eating. They gave us some of their delicious dessert pierogis and they gave the girls coloring books and a stuffed animal each. My 3 year old told them that "it was the best food ever!" and was so happy that she gave them hugs. I am thrilled I was able to find gluten free pierogies in Pittsburgh. I was able to pick up some potato & cheese and bacon sauerkraut pierogies for my mom. She absolutely loved the pierogies. It's important to cook the gluten free pierogies correctly! They are par-boiled, so they just need to be thawed and then pan-fried. My mom was thrilled to be able to enjoy some gluten free pierogies without having to make her own! Also can't beat 14 pierogies to a dozen! Stumbled upon this place through a Groupon offer, and I'm so glad I did! The Groupon was only good for frozen pierogies, so I ordered 14 of the Cheese, Potato, and Jalapeño and 14 of the Pizza. The pizza pierogies were absolutely divine... wow! Their homemade dough is light, and the fillings compliment it perfectly. I liked the jalapeño ones as well, but the pizza ones definitely outshined them in my opinion. Additionally, the woman who took our order was so kind. She explained everything to us, and gave us that "mom and pop" experience that my boyfriend and I both love. They also have hot polish foods that I am hoping to try during our next visit. Having normally gotten our pierogies from the church outside of New Kensington, we were anxious to try Cop Out after the church stopped making them. I called to order two dozen of their potato and cheese - the staff was pleasant and very kind upon placing my order (even though it was 20 minutes before they closed). When we picked up the food, the experience was equally as pleasant. Great atmosphere and excellent service. The food was above average, but didn't knock my socks off.
