I had such high hope for this restaurant! I love seafood and while the oysters were delicious, the beef carpaccio was sweet and off putting. The waiter was completely rude and extremely pushy claiming I couldn't eat that much. I asked for no flour on my sole, but it arrived with flour. The lemon butter sauce was bland and not tasty. A friend recommended us to try out this place. We were seated outside because we had a reservation. If you don't like the smell of cigarette, I recommended to get an indoor table. A lot of people smoke outside. The ambience is nice. The weather was nice for outdoor seating. Service is great. Staff is friendly. Superlative seafood restaurant experience. I came back twice (and fingers crossed, one more time before I leave) for the red prawn carpaccio and calamari ribbons in pesto. (The spaghetti with clams was just as good as the best restaurants at home, so I'd try something different.) What I will try next time, according to patrons seated nearby: asparagus risotto and grilled sole with vegetables and sautéed greens. Wonderful service. Daughter ordered the lobster pasta. It's 20 euros for 100 grams (3.5 ounces). Also ordered the chateaubriand for 2 people for 200 euros and a bottle of French red for 200, 2 starters, 6 cocktails and another entree. The bill came and the pasta was 80 euros (4x the listed price). Our server should have mentioned that the listed price was for 100 grams. Just felt wrong. Fried calamari to start, which was good. The bread was so-so. A nice wine list that includes a few very good half-bottles. Service was friendly and attentive. I started with oysters, which tasted fresh but the shucking was not great. For 6 euros a piece it seems fair to expect them to be completely separated from both shells yet not scrambled and with no shell chips inside. The blueberry, pomegranate, and chestnut salad was excellent: fresh and an interesting combination of flavors. For the main course, I ordered the turbot filet with clams, artichokes, and marjoram sauce. It was marvelous. The fillet was perfect. Not every restaurant is great that is OK. But to run a scam on top of serving bad food is the worst. This place says on the menu that they charged €16 for an item when the bill comes they're charging you four times that. Worst Resturant experience in a while. Hmmmmmm... not sure I understand the hype here. I'll start by saying we dined at MANY places in Rome, including a fantastic experience at the city's only 3-Michelin star restaurant, and we loved every one... except this one. The ambiance was nice, and the staff was friendly in an icy sort of way... it was really the only time in our 5 days in Rome that we felt it. Nonetheless, I chose it for the FOOD, which was hit and miss. Hit: their beef sirloin Carpaccio is absolutely the very best I've ever had. Silky, marvelous texture, and a wonderful flavor. But everything else that we had was "just ok." We shared the octopus app as well as salad. For entrees, my niece had a pasta dish with a creamy artichoke sauce, and I had the fried seafood. My meal was very under seasoned, and the shrimp was strange... still in the shell (which seemed odd since it was deep fried, so, after peeling those tiny things, the outer coating was removed, so what's the point?) We were too full to finish the meal and had our leftovers packed up to-go, but when we asked if we could order a slice of cake for dessert to-go, they said, "no we can't do that." Interesting. This was our last meal (lunch) before heading to FCO to fly home. Our hotel recommended this place and another but we choose this one because the other has a dress code. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The raw appetizers from oysters, fish, to shrimps tasted fresh. The lobster pasta was delicious. The bottle of sparkling wine is good accompaniment. We liked that the desserts are not sugary. It was lightly sweetened. Cappuccino is a must to finish the meal even though it was 93 degrees today. My husbands picked out a fish then they cooked it and brought it to him opened it up and nothing no flavor, salt pepper, nothing on the fish, he ate it though as we had waited 2.5 hours. They brought me clam pasta after I spoke to them a while and pointed out my allergies on their form instead of the lamb I ordered so it had to go back. I would have ate it, but it was a bit of a walk to the hotel so I thought it would be good to walk while alive. Located in the center of piazza de Ricci, since 1938, it pulls out all the stops when the sun goes down! The fresh fish and raw materials used for the dishes is unparalleled! The 600 label wine cellar, with wines in all price ranges, is also a pleasure to experience! The service just couldn't be better or friendlier, with old world standards of waiter etiquette! When we didnt know what something was, the waiter went back in the kitchen and actually SHOWED us! The only difficulty was what to choose among the fresh seafood: the rare langoustines I noticed was a favorite of the locals at the other tables as well. The staff speaks English, which is very useful when selecting a fresh fish from the assortment inside. Antipasto: mixed Carpaccio of fresh fish. An assortment of raw (crudo) fish thinly sliced and topped with a little olive oil, salt and pepper. Beautifully simple. Cooked octopus Carpaccio: some of the best I've had so far. My lunch was excellent. The food is traditional, fresh, and seasonal. The employees are very friendly and very accommodating. I was very impressed how they made sure even children where well taken care of by providing coloring books and colored pencils. The children where even offered Bolognese sauce in pasta for dinner. You can make reservations on-line but it will be much quicker to call. There is both indoor and outdoor seating in the summer. There is private dining options downstairs in the wine cellar. This is the perfect example of when a restaurant can be nice without being good. For a "premiere fish restaurant," we found our fish tartare and ceviche severely lacking flavor and complexity. Both were flat dishes that lacked salt and acidity. Being American, our waiter certainly took advantage of us. My first tip off should have been when he kept steering us away from dishes we wanted to order. "Oh, don't get that, I make something special for you instead." He steered us away from the octopus and several other dishes to make "special" dishes for us. My "special" pasta was a prawn pasta which sounded delicious but was made with scampi instead, and the "special" side vegetable was unseasoned boiled spinach for 12 euros. We were in such a rush to leave after a disappointing dinner that my husband accidently left too much cash on the bill. Our waiter, in a moment of honesty (?guilt) ran us down with the "exact change" (minus 10 euros). We were relieved to put this experience behind us and went to grab some excellent gelato close by to forget the pretentious service and uninspired food experience. read more

If money is no object, this restaurant is a destination a serious seafood lover will not want to miss. They require a credit card just to make reservations. And if you miss your time slot, they will charge you 50 Euros per person for inconveniencing them. If you are not dressed appropriately on a Thursday, Fri or Sat, don't go in. You will feel out of place. And by "appropriately" I mean nice suit and tie / nice dress. This place is the quintessence of elegance. The word "snooty" May apply, but our wait staff was pleasant, so I'll leave it as "elegant." Fresh bread, olive oil and vinaigrette, delicious! Soups, magnificent. Desserts are good, coffee is good, but the seafood is great. Outdoor seating is available all year round if the weather is nice, and it is just as elegant outdoors as it is indoors. The wait staff are dressed in tuxedos. As you would expect, they know how to approach the table, properly pour wine, and serve each course. The food is excellent. Don't be drawn in by what the wait staff recommend; you'll do better picking what you think you want. I honestly don't know if the staff is trying to get rid of slow moving inventory with their recommendations, but order what looks good to you. They don't over-spice their food. They don't over cook their seafood. They know what they are doing. This is Pierluigi, one of the finest seafood restaurants in the world, and they more or less live up to their international reputation.The wine list is impressive. No house wines in pitchers here. Full bar. If you have a large appetite, know that they charge by the gram for their delicacies. Everything is a-la-carte. The food is middling at best and vastly overpriced. The real issue I have is that at the end off the meal, after our bill charge was through, the waiter advised "oh, service is not included." Although we knew from many past visits to Italy that tipping is not required or even customary and service or bread charges need be listed on the menu, we had no cell service to check the menu (COVID so no paper menu). We left $40 (it was a shocking $450 bill for a basic meal for 4, only 2 appetizers and one dessert). Of course, when I checked menu back at the hotel there was no service charge listed. Amazing place! A few complaints first is that the front of house didn't communicate where we were to be seated, so we were left standing for 20 mins until I said we should ask, since I saw others being seated. No one decided to help us standing there, but whatever. The other complaint is they lost our coat (for a moment, we got it back.) We were seated downstairs and they wanted to take my boyfriends coat. We didn't get a ticket, when we asked they said that it was in the downstairs closet, not to worry. When it was time to leave, they said that it was upstairs, upstairs said we need a ticket! Thank goodness my bf emptied his jacket (passport ect) and into his pockets before handing the jacket over. It was a very scary moment. When we didnt have a ticket they turned their back on us (rude!!!). It was also hard to get their attention in the first place because the three of them were chatting. I think a manager was finally called because we kept trying to tell them what the jacket looked like (bf is a BIG guy and it was a windbreaker). We got it back finally. Onto the food! Going to be frank, I am not a seafood fan, but I was craving shrimp. So sad that they couldn't do garlic shrimp, but they recommended the shrimp salad. It was delicious but small portion. iirc it was about $40euro. I have never had such good tasting shrimp before. not fishy but full of flavor, and it mingled so well with the onion, greens, and potato. My boyfriend ordered the fried cod. Which has now ruined fish and chips for us because that was the most amazing fish we've had. Lightly battered, airy, light, crispy. The cod was not fishy at all, I've never had something so fresh. It was a very big portion. The plate is huge but each piece was a little smaller than a deck of cards. Finally, we end on fried potatoes (good but nothing special) and I got the fried artichoke, my new favorite food! It came served over scalloped(?) potatoes in creme. Oh, it was so good and has an amazing firm yet SILKY texture. I was in love. So I went for the first and the last time. We went for my wife's birthday. The service was excellent -- it should have been as we were the only customers. The food was tasty as well. I asked about a dish because it was translated as a "soup," but it was under the "pasta" items so I thought their translated menu might have been wrong. The waiter said it was just a thicker sauce -- it was a soup, served with a spoon and it was €25! For soup. I was clearly still hungry and ordered a Roman staple, Cacio Pepe. It wasn't on the menu, but every place makes it. My wife ordered something suggested by the server which was a pasta in a cream sauce with fresh-grated truffle. The dish came out kind of small, but tasty. When we got the bill, I was horrified! Mine simple cacio pepe....€25! Her dish....€60!!! WTAF. Screw job. I still left a tip because that's how I am. After seeing so many rave reviews on yelp and chowhound we decided to come here on Christmas day last year. The service was very good and they speak English as well as understand my OK Italian... there were 3 of us so we got a couple of appetizers - the carpacci di pesce, the artichokes and the calamari. We had ordered oysters too but we never go them. We went with pastas for our entrees... a squid ink risotto, gnocchi with razor clams and a stuffed baked pasta with prawns. All was good. The pasta with white truffles was tempting but the 75 euro price tag deterred us. The desserts were good, not great although the sbriciolata stood out as being better than average. Do I regret eating here? No. Would I go back... Probably not as there are a whole host of other places I absolutely loved! read more

The best for the money doesn't get you very far. We stayed at the Ritz in Rome we asked for the best place to eat in the area 3 local people said the same thing Pierluigi. I should have been more weary of suggestions from the hotel, but later that day I shared a cab with a fellow American from CT and they also suggested Pierluigi as one of the best restaurant in Rome and the best fish but you need reservations. I suppose since we were staying at the Ritz everyone assumed we wanted an absurdly expensive meal. They were wrong and you have now been warned. We made reservations almost a week in advance. We sat outside and were treated like royalty. The service is head and shoulders above every other restaurant in rome (notwithstanding Caciao e Pepe) The food was spectacularly average. I say that with this caveat. It WAS VERY fresh. Extremely fresh. Not Venice fresh but pretty fresh. The server very helpful and his suggestions were perfect. Everything on the menu is good. Not amazing as to justify the prices but good enough that you may be able to rationalize the cost with your palate when you get home. read more
