The food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired. We were a group of six with a reservation that had been made weeks prior and we were seated downstairs, in the basement, where the ambiance was pretty much nonexistent. To make matters worse, we were told we could only choose from three types of pasta, from their wide variety, for our entire table, which was disappointing since everyone was looking forward to ordering their own dish. I mean really? We probably would have ended up with only 3-4 different choices anyway but it was a real turn-off to get things started. The Manager is a disgrace to all Restaurant Managers. My Girlfriend ordered a pasta that said it had bacon. But it was not like the bacon in Carbonara pasta, small pieces - it was minced bacon pieces, that were paired with onions - she hates onions and the menu did not say it had onions. It had a brown sauce - honestly, it was the ugliest looking pasta dish I've ever seen, brown, not red, white, or green. She tasted it and hated it, and had the server take it away, 100% completely uneaten - and said she no longer wanted anything to eat. The Manager came by and talked her into getting another dish - little did I know at the time that he was simply trying to add to our already near 100 euros bill, because he did not remove that 1st dish from our bill. I was a Restaurant Manager decades ago, and I know that that a 16 euro pasta dish probably costed about 2 to 3 euros in ingredients cost, negligible for him to have deleted it from the bill, as long as she was ordering another dish. We at here on our last night in Roma at the reco of someone we met in Italy. We were there when they opened to secure a table. The hosts/waiters at the front door weren't that friendly. Once we got sat at a table, our waiter was fairly friendly but def very busy. Please note that the tables are very very close together and we ended up at a long "family style" table, which I didn't mind, but the table behind us was jammed up against ours and the women sitting there were oblivious to how much room they were taking up. We came to this restaurant in Trastevere for lunch. Definitely recommend making a reservation in advanced as they get super busy and literally have a line of people waiting out the door for a table at peak lunch time. There were many locals there and it almost seemed like every single one of them were friends with or somehow knew the chef and servers as they all kept coming by to say hi to the chef in the kitchen. We sat at a table in the back of the restaurant close to the kitchen so we watch all of this friendly traffic and commotion in action. We had the pasta arrabbiata which was absolutely delicious and had a nice kick from the chili peppers. This was the third out of the 4 Roman pastas that I wanted to try and it was my favorite by far. We also got the whole fish grilled to share and I swear they must have thought we were starving (or saw $$$ signs in our tourist faces) since they brought us out the largest fish they had in their kitchen. This fish was no joke, it was literally the size of the table. We were a bit startled at first but the fish was cooked so well that we had no problem devouring the whole thing. Service was rocky from the start especially since we got there early for our reservation and this was not taken well by our server (apparently being early or even punctual is frowned upon around here). He was rather abrupt, not very cordial from the beginning and came off as kind of rude, but eventually he did warm up a bit (perhaps when he realized that we were ordering several bottles of wine and the largest fish they had). It's sometimes difficult to let things go, I know, but here I feel like you just have to not take their sort of crass attitude too personally, let it slide and enjoy the delicious food they serve. Wow this place gets busy! A couple had reservations and were waiting 40 minutes outside before they got seated. Then they had like 10 other people outside waiting to get seated at 10:45pm when they close at 11:30. Crazy. We didn't have reservations but ended up getting a table for 2 downstairs after about 15-20 minutes. We wee probably there until 1:30am though, so much for closing at 11:30pm! Maybe they just don't take anymore people in at 11:30?! They are definitely small, located in an alley but you can spot it with the queue of people outside. The server was funny - he kept winking at us and making conversation with all the tables. I liked that he made an effort even though his English wasn't great and that he was friendly and joking even at 1:30am! We saw the photos of the seafood lobster spaghetti online and had to get it. It was for a minimum of 2 people so we split it and it was still a huge plate of pasta for each of us! They split it for us in the kitchen! The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the seafood and sauce was fantastic! Yum!! It was so good we both cleaned the dish! Literally cleaned it with not a single strand of pasta left! We also got the steak with red wine sauce and truffle. It was tender but the red wine overwhelmed the truffle. You can see the shaved black truffle on top but the flavor is missing with that red wine sauce. We were pretty disappointed cause we both love truffle and wanted to go out with a bang. The desserts were ok. Tiramisu lacked lady fingers and espresso. The profiteroles were good - a bit too sweet with the chocolate sauce but good. Overall, a great experience and a fantastic meal. Had to wait long before they were able to take our order, and took us a lot of times to ask for our bill afterwards. I also noticed those that had reservations still had to wait, and ask the server several times for their table. BUT... Best. Carbonara. Ever! We went to this place because our airbnb host recommended it to us, and the food did not disappoint. We ordered the Carbonara and the Tomato Basil Ravioli, and both tasted so good. I've tried other restaurant's Carbonara during this trip to Rome, but Le Mani's Carbonara wins for me. The pasta was perfectly al dente, it was creamy and not dry, and the pancetta was just salty enough. The taste was perfect, I would literally nod 'yes' every time I had a forkful. The restaurant's ambiance was also wonderful, I loved the interior - it was very rustic. You could also see the chefs at work inside the kitchen, and that was nice! I suggest not coming here when you are super hungry. Come when you are just about to get hungry, otherwise the wait will piss you off. Will definitely return for the Carbonara!!! read more

Found this place by chance during our first European trip. Years later, food is still great and we again had a memorable dining experience. Ordered tagliolini with clams/shrimp, grilled fish, side of broccoli (Romanesco broccoli) and semifreddo for dessert. Everything was delicious, the tagliolini in particular. The broccoli was sautéed in garlic and olive oil and a little charred and amazing. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. We had a table in the back where a few glass panels separate the kitchen and the dining room. It was a lot of fun watching the chefs skillfully prep all the pasta. We saw all the food that came out and were literally drooling at everything. Forgot to order the lobster linguine which many ppl rave about. Get a reservation, or you can chance it by coming here right when they open at 7:30pm and pray to be seated. We see them turning guests away later in the evening because they place is often fully booked even on weeknights. read more

Ok food posing as good. We were encouraged to order a special lobster dish that was covered in celery, tomatoes, and salad dressing,...why? Overhyped and expensive. I overheard a solo diner being almost refused as it was busy and they didnt want to give up a table for one. I was also forced to pay gratuity that was not on my bill but added in before my card was charged. Won't be back. Many restaurants in Italy are now charging a post covid forced gratuity at many restaurants, or sneaking charges in, beware stupid Americans and stop tipping as you have created this problem. read more

If you're looking for typical Roman cuisine, which is not too heavy and a few more experimental and seasonal options this is the place. The service is an experience in itself, very Roman in a way. Don't expect standard courtesy. The guys can be rather abrupt, but if you keep your humour and play along they'll treat you like a king. We attempted to eat a Le Mani in Pasta on a Saturday night without a reservation.. I know I know...or at least now I do. We were unaware reservations were required for weekends because prior to that we had no issues just showing up and getting a table. We were told that if we waited a bit they may be able to get us in. I think in total we waited 45 minutes and we went back inside to ask for an update and they said they could not get us in at all. This is a very small restaurant - as soon as you walk in the door you are literally on top of the other guests. We left and found other food for Saturday and called to make a reservation for Sunday. When we called they found someone that could understand our English and set the reservation for 7pm but with 2 hour time maximum. I am not sure if that is common practice in Italy but the service abroad is much slower than in the US we found. Upon arriving we were seated and given a complimentary small glass of Processco which was nice. They also gave us bread which we assumed was free because we did not ask for it but we were charged anyway.We ordered the cacio de pepe which was very nice and a bottle of Processco for 16 Euro to start. I chose the grilled lamb but it was really lacking in flavor. My friend did the steak and it was not cooked properly and did not taste great. I guess we should have known better than to order anything other than pasta with a name like they have. I was not overly impressed but its worth a try if you are in town. Stick to pasta though and make a reservation. Great & very friendly staff though! One of the best we had in Italy. read more

When in Rome (sorry not sorry), you eat carbonara. I asked around and was told by locals that this was the place to come. We ended up getting in without a reservation, but got there right as they opened for the evening, and it was still not easy to get a table. Dinner started out with complimentary prosecco, and we decided to get the mozzarella, prosciutto, and melon appetizer. I have to say, this was a BEAUTIFUL combination that I wasn't expecting. The fresh mozzarella and prosciutto were complimented perfectly with the freshest, most flavorful melon I have ever had- a perfect appetizer! Then came the star of the evening. I've made carbonara on multiple occasions, but when I had true, Roman carbonara, I was absolutely blown away. The ingredients are so simple, but from great ingredients come a stellar dish. The sauce was packed with so much flavor- salty, savory, bacon-y. It was delicious. The only issue I had with the whole dinner was that the pasta was juuust slightly undercooked. I love pasta al dente, but i was really surprised that it has more than just "a bite" to it. It wasn't that big of a deal, especially in view of that sauce, but just a tad disappointing. But overall if you want a good carbonara, I say this is a great place to get it! read more

My favorite restaurant in Rome. Enjoyed last night as much as I did 15 years ago! Loud, lively and of course, delicious pasta.

Service was basic and minimal, but honestly the food was sub par and would not recommend this place to anyone. Have had better food in almost every place I've eaten in Italy on this trip. The food and wine selection was not great and the menu was very Americanized and unfortunately did not live up to any expectation. Also beware, the restaurant or waiter charged a mandatory service fee which I've never heard of in any Italian restaurant. Never come here read more

WOW! The food here is delicious. It was very hard just picking items on the menu, as we saw the food that others were ordering. The pasta is made from scratch, and the sauces used were not too heavy. We ordered the fettechini alfredo and a beef dish. The flavors were rich, not heavy, and perfect portions - recommend sharing. You must make a reservation. We did not , and got there right when they opened, and there was a line. Very hard to get a table. Also, pricing is VERY reasonable. All we were given was a menu and the customary bag of bread, no one took our drink orders or introduced themselves. BEST MEAL OF MY LIFE. I am not being hyperbolic. It truly was. If you want to be treated like a special tourist, with a special menu, and treated with kid gloves in a place, that in my opinion is the most passionate place in the world(Rome) this is not where you should eat. Pick a random restaurant with a sweet little tourist menu where they will take advantage of the fact that you know nothing about how to eat up the culture of a place. If you want a truly Roman experience in every way, come here. YES, they might take locals before you, yes they might make you wait longer, YES, an Italian man might try and scare you away. Think of it as a Roman adventure. And really, WHO CARES!?! You are in Rome, look around you. Buy a beer from a bodega sit on the beautiful little stoop and wait it out. You won't be disappointed. You will earn some Roman street cred if you wait and are granted admission. Once you are inside you are treated like a member of the family. We arrived on a Saturday night with no reservation at 9:00, we were seated by about 9:40. If you are really frightened, then make a reservation. Atmosphere: It is what I picture the Roman festivals of thousands of years ago to look like: Laughter, Volume and Life. We watched as very exclusive looking Romans were escorted to private room downstairs each guest greeted by the lovely Roman man(the same one that tried to scared us away, the same man, that once we were seated said, "Thank you" ) we watched tray after tray of delicious food being served down and back up with completely empty plates. We soaked in the laughter coming from every way around us. We were the only tourists in there(the other couple got scared away) it was bursting with life. Food: You truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I do think that they were a bit behind in the kitchen and dealt with it in the best way possible: They gave us some free food while we waited, two delicious pasta dishes, One of some kind of heavenly pepper/squid pasta that made me ashamed that I thought that I knew what "al dente" actually meant, the other a light shrimp pasta. We ordered the artichoke salad which contained the freshest mushrooms I have ever eaten, the carbonara (I bet you think you know what this should taste like, you are wrong) and the sea bass( melted in my mouth as I ate it). And yes don't worry frightful ones, they did give us an english menu. My only regret was that we did not get dessert. This place gives meaning to the phrase, "When in Rome." So, in my opinion, when in Rome, do indeed do as the Romans and eat here. read more

They have an attitude problem here, especially towards non-Italians Showed up at reservation time and was made wait while the waiter proceeded to seat all the other Italians who showed up after us. We were the last ones remaining after 40 minutes. Three more Italians show up and this waiter had the balls to pour them courtesy prosecco in front of my wife and I while completely ignoring us. Finally left after he seats them and we are the last ones remaining. Not sure what this guy has against Americans, we are a young, good looking couple who were dressed up for the night. Didn't taste the food, but looking at the other reviews, seems like the place is mediocre anyways. We sat kitchen side and watch the MEASTRO do his magic.. 2 pans... not 1, not 3.... 2 pans and that all he needed.. steak, fish, pasta.... in the pan, on the plate. Artichoke insalata.... BOOM, that was boom goes the fork... Fresh, sweet, FANTASTIC....... First course.. Victoria ordered pasta with seafood, clams, shrimp and prawn.... I, the " Classico Carbonara"...... This lunch was in slow dance with your special person in an cramped dance hall. Yet no toes were stepped and and our hearts were all a flutter. Like your first kiss, with a basket of panne. We really looked forward to trying this, but had a terrible experience. It started with the waiter telling us that we should be sharing dishes, which sounded like a logical thing until we understood later in the meal that he was actually ordering two of each meal for the four of us, rather than allowing us to each choose what we wanted to eat. He was merely choosing to make his life easier. He had rushed us through the ordering process and it would have been nice to be able try a sampling, like we did at other places. He also added a fat tip for himself, rather than allowing us to choose the amount. After trying many wonderful restaurants in Rome, we felt like this place was over hyped. After failing at trying to grab a table at Da Enzo, we walked over here and called to see if they had an open table. We walked in when they opened and grabbed a seat for two. Restaurant is cramped but felt very fancy. Our waiters were awesome. Very friendly and personable. They served a glass of champagne once guests are seated. Bread and their special flat breads (more like sheets of crackers) are served. We were told to order the special lobster spaghetti, which probably felt like an up sell from the staff. For appetizers were ordered the sautéed clams and mussels to start. The portion was VERY generous. HUGE almost. Same with the lobster spaghetti. HUGE portion. We shared everything and did not manage to make a dent. The mussels and clams were great. Very tasty and fresh. The lobster spaghetti was a bit oily and perhaps the shelled lobsters made the pasta taste too "seafood-y". I'd have to try other dishes in order to recommend this restaurant.
