In town to catch a Tigers game and wanted pizza with both Vegan and Gluten Free options. Pie Sci to the rescue! They have your traditional choices along with Vegan and Gluten Free. It is a very clean and homey dinning area! The staff makes you feel welcomed from the get go! Our visit to Detroit was in the 90's with very high humidity which kept us indoors. They also have a garden patio out back which would have been my preference if the temperature was a bit lower. My family and I all had small square pizzas. We had a Veggie D on gluten free and made vegan with the cashew cheese. My daughter was in a happy place with her choice. We also had a Pep Squad made vegan with the follow your heart cheese. Another hit. I had Hawaiian 5-0 on gluten free along with the jalapeño bbq sauce. My pizza was great! They serve Faygo soda which is great. Their homemade version of the Choco Taco was great! As hot as it was. I was going to ask if I could get it out of their walk-in freezer myself!
Pretty good pizza I ordered the veggie pizza with beef pepperoni, crust had cujin and sesame the pizza was completely covered with toppings which I loved and full of flavor but unfortunately their were a few slices that had a few bites that the dough was not completely cooked. But the rest was yummy
This is one of the best gluten free dairy free pizzas I've ever had! I didn't know there was such a thing of GF thick crust, and when I finally found a spot with GF thick crust and DF cheese, I was over the moon to try it. The pizza went beyond my expectations. The crust was soft and tasty. The cheese was plentiful and actually melted. The toppings were also plentiful. The staff were also really helpful. My only disappointment was that I didn't buy another pizza to take home to freeze. Not sure what cheese or crust they use, but I will be back every time I visit Detroit no matter what. I wish all GF DF pizza could taste like this!
Heard great things about this place and finally stopped in. It is much smaller inside than I was expecting. We got two small pizzas, a pepperoni and supreme square. Nice outside crisp cheese on crust, crust was really nice, I was expecting a much more dense crust but it was airy, which was great! Flavor of the toppings was great and sauce was nice. Would for sure come back!
Yummy! I only like thin crust pizza, and this hit the spot. I had the BLT, which was delicious in the future. I'll get it with even more tomatoes. My daughter had the Keegan Michael gnocchi, two thumbs up. My sister-in-law had the Hawaii Five-0, another two thumbs up.
Pie Sci is a staple local pizza joint serving both classic and imaginative pies in traditional Detroit style (or round, if that's your thing!) Both times I've dined in was for a collaboration pizza between Pie Sci and Khana, the "Butter Chicken" pizza. It's truly a masterpiece. We got there early on a Monday evening and snagged a table, and watch them get progressively busier the whole night. There's never not a pizza in the oven. You order at the counter, grab your seat, and one of the workers calls your name at the counter in a sing-songy fashion that prompts you to want to respond in the same way. Nice to see them having fun with it! Pictured: Cheese bread, Butter Chicken pizza (speciality, not usually available) we made this disappear quickly!
I recently went here and I have to say that it was alright. I did enjoy the pizza although the texture of cheese not so much. The dough is the kind where you need a drink with it! My boyfriend who is not a vegan enjoyed the cheese bread the most and had no complaints about the pizza! I'm not too sure what the inside of the restaurant looked like or how good the service was, although my boyfriend went into the place and I heard no complaints from him. I ordered the pizza online and it was done in about 20 minutes! I'd like to add that I would definitely come here again. The pizza is very filling and I like that we can customize our pizza with a bunch of different toppings. I can appreciate this being a vegan place because there's not many near my area!!
Visiting from Indiana. We needed some legit Detroit style pizza and, boy, did we find it. Employee's were nice and helped us quickly. Cute little shop. Unique toppings with plenty of vegetarian options. Crust was well made. Clever food combinations. I had the devastator and that curry ketchup really sealed the deal! Definitely coming back
I am a fiend for Detroit style pizza. I so wanted to love Pie Sci, but I can't say anything really stood out. The menu itself is quite creative. With options like Hawaii 5-0, pickle rich, and even Alfredo. I went for the fennel sausage, Which sounds wonderful in theory. Technically speaking, it falls short. I'm looking for the distinctive crispy outer crust I've come to love and the chewy thickness of the crust itself. The pizza itself would could have really benefited from a sauce to top it off(as often you find on this style), or even a drizzle of some sort. I wish I could say more, but it's all just subtle and underwhelming. Since the very first encounter I had with Detroit style pizza, I've been shouting its praises from the rooftops. I've now had it all over the country, and some absolutely incredible pies to say the least. But one thing that continues to mystify me is why I simply cannot find a great Detroit style in.....Detroit! The search continues....
I'm always on the lookout for delicious gluten free pizza, and my husband and I were in the area, so we decided to give Pie Sci a chance. Goodness! I am so glad that we did. The pizza was large and delicious. The staff were very friendly. There aren't a lot of tables to sit at, but that wasn't a big deal to us. The gluten free crust is thin and crispy, somewhat like a thick cracker. We got the Pickle Rick. My husband, who eats gluten, even said it was one of the best pizzas he's had. There is street parking, and as it's across the street from a university, I'd imagine it's quite popular among college students. We will definitely be back.
One of the best Detroit Style pies, and with that responsibility everything is divine from the crust crispness and flavor to the crazy flavors. And crazy isn't that crazy, I had a strawberry balsamic pie that still makes my mouth water. Pie Sci isn't afraid to try new things and that's what makes it so great - when you go (because you have to) try the weekly flavor it's usually worth the risk! With any Detroit style pie, it does take a while in the oven, but it is better fresh. They do have seating, but it is minimal.
i've had SO many recommendations to try pie sci! did not disappoint!! i got the 8x10 square fig lebowski, it was sweet and savory and crispy and just all around so delicious:) i love the vibe in the shop too and the staff is so so nice! will definitely be coming here again!!

Lows mad because they just ruined EVERY OTHER PIZZA PLACE in the USA for me. Pie Sci gives pizza the upgrade you didn't know you wanted, but needed. Is beans on pizza good? no, right? wrong. try Nacho Mama (vegan ofc). I know what you're also thinking: only weirdos put pickles on pizza. Actually nvm maybe you're right, because we def are. But on the real Nick is now one with Pickle Rick. It's some good stuff. On a more serious note, you can tell the dough is quality, cooked to perfection or maybe a bit crispy on the outside super soft on the inside. The ambiance is friendly with whacky decor and some science nerd hipster vibes. I'm also impressed that they're able to make almost every pizza in a vegetarian and vegan option (only 1.50 more for small, 3.00 for large) and that it didn't just mean removing non-plant ingredients. They actually replace everything with a vegan substitute. Will be coming back as soon as my stomach is no longer distended. read more

Such an interesting and awesome find! They have awesome unique pizzas and they're constantly changing the menu and experimenting. Bf wanted to show me the brussel simmons because he knew I'd love it, but unfortunately they JUST changed their whole menu. Luckily for us though, they had some slices left for sale and YUM, bf was right I loved it! Brussel sprouts and bacon with a balsamic drizzle - uhh all my favorite things! Very well balanced, nice garlic-y white pizza base. We also got a large Tamale G, which really was a tamale in pizza form - and it tasted great! I love that they have such interesting pizzas to choose from (and wish I could try them all), and I love their thick chewy pizza dough! The pizza just has such a satisfying bite! For anyone who knows me, they know I love my QQ noodles, and I've gotta say they've got that QQ-ness in their dough! read more

The cheesy bread sticks were pretty good. I like that the gave enough sauce on the side. I had a vegan Jimmy pesto pizza and for whatever reason it taste better as left overs then the day I got it. Will definitely go back ! read more
I came here after a wedding to get some midnight pizza. I was looking for some vegan friendly place open late at night and Pie Sci fit the bill. The place was well lit and clean. There weren't many people there since it was really late at night. I ordered a veggie filled vegan pizza. It came out quickly and was really hot but cooled off soon enough. It was good, not great, but I'd eat here again. I didn't like that it came out on corrugated cardboard because the toppings, sauce, and "cheese" would get stuck in the crevices and the cardboard would disintegrate if I tried to scrape it up with a fork. My boyfriend ordered a margarita pizza and his came out on flat cardboard so he did not have this problem. Not sure when they use which cardboard but I was not a fan. read more

We usually use corrugated cardboard for pizzas that are more "drippy"…

We had our pizza in the outdoor patio and it was very pleasant and not too busy. The crust of the pizza was perfect! They had plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available. Definitely going to visit again and try out some of the other pizzas they have. read more
Wow- went to lunch here with a few coworkers. I wasn't sure what to expect but pizza sounded good. They do small (personal) and large (to share) pizzas. Small storefront with several tables and a drink station for patrons (soft drink station). Didn't think we'd actually get a table but after placing our order for "in" at the counter a table for four opened up. There were four of us so we ordered two large pizzas. The Spin Doctor and Big Philly. I wasn't sure what to expect but I believe I was the first at the table to to finish my first slice of the Spin Doctor. Wow.... and WOW! Just do it- get it- you'll be happy. Compared to the Spin Doctor the Big Philly was well... average. Just saying- Parking is S L I M out front- more in neighborhood. Cool bar next store if you're looking for an adult beverage after ... read more
This is the best pizza I have ever had. Honestly, their crust is incredible- perfectly chewy. What's more, is that I have only ever had the vegan pizza options from here (which are bountiful). I can't imagine how well they do a regular pie. A friend from out of state split a vegan slice with me and was equally amazed by how damn good it was. I love that they change up their menu seasonally- sometimes I'm sad when the Nacho Mama isn't there, but then over the summer I discovered the So Fresco So Clean, and now I can't decide which is my favorite. The vegan add-ons can get a bit pricey, but honestly, it's worth every penny. I can't help but go here anytime I'm near Detroit. The staff is friendly, fun, and I've never had an unreasonable wait time. read more

Im not usually one to pick up pizza, but I was really fiending some after moving into my new place. Since I was super hungry, I decided to go for one of their daily slices. I chose the vegan option. They put the slice in the burner (which I appreciate), but honestly, it was alright. Not sure if vegan cheese is just not satisfying/ doesn't pull and give you stringy gooeyness, but the flavors were meh too. On the other hand, the staff seem quirky and fun, much like the establishment itself. I like the artwork here too. It can get packed fast but a lot of people seem to do take out, so most people are just waiting and there's a decent number of tables read more

Vegan cheese is definitely not for everyone, we like to offer vegan…

Came here with a few coworkers for lunch. Their menu is unlike any I've seen at a pizza place. Interesting combinations that end up being straight up delicious! You can order a small 4 slice pizza, a larger version or even slices of pizza. I feel like there's something for every palate. I ordered the tamale G which came out fairly quickly with steam rolling off of it. I was glad we didn't have to wait long especially since I had work to get back to. The flavors of the tamale pizza reminded exactly of a tamale (my favorite). It was spicy and delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to try another pizza flavor next time. They also have a pizza of the week which continually changes. All in all a great place to stop for pizza. And if you're picky they have a build your own option also. Don't miss this spot. read more
Went here with a friend after a nice day of walking around Belle Isle. We split a Vegan Taco's Modern Life. It was really good!! The walnut "meat" was really nice and it was very interesting to have slaw on pizza and use limes and such. Pie Sci is definitely a gourmet pizza place. The price point is higher than your average pizza joint but that's because the quality and contents are higher! I definitely want to make my way through all their vegan pizzas(: If you've been to Amici's Living Room you'll love this place. read more
We ordered three small round pizzas which were actually pretty big for one person. We ended up getting two more meals out of our leftovers. The pizza menu changes so they might not have the pizza you saw in their Yelp review, but there will still be some delicious pizza with a really clever name available. We had the Hawaii 5-0, the Mary's Lambo, and the Cheesus Crust. I didn't try the Hawaii 5-0 so I can't comment on the taste, but the person who ordered it liked it. The Cheesus Crust was excellent. The Mary's Lambo wasn't quite as flavorful and it definitely would have been better if we had remembered to get a drizzle of sauce on it. We would definitely go back and try some of their other pizzas. read more
My sister and I were really excited to try this place; love bring family alone to force them to try new food especially vegan things with me. My sister got the Taco's modern life (loved the taste and the aesthetic that she needed a photo of it) and I just did a build your own; my sister loved the tofu bacon and kept stealing it off of my pizza! Will 100% go back when I'm craving pizza! read more

Pie Sci is truly worthy of five stars. I went for the first time in September and have been back around once every week. I cannot put into words how much I love this place. The employees are very happy and helpful, cool decor, a menu that is has options for everyone (meat, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free) and they always have new and innovative pizzas. Never had had to wait for more than 15 minutes for my pie! The patio in the back is a perfect place to hang out on a summer night with a few friends. Everyone who I have introduced to Pie Sci has absolutely loved it. I will keep coming back for the reasonably priced pizza, unique combination of toppings, fun names (ex: Fig Lebowski, Lil Kimchi), and excellent service. Keep doing you, Pie Sci! Pro-tip: they have AMAZING cheese bread that isn't on the menu. Definitely need to get! I forgot the name of this pizza but it was phenomenal! read more

Pie Sci is absolutely out of control with its pizza concepts and I am here. for. it. I love how over the top their pizzas are while absolutely nailing the taste as well. I've gotten vegan nachos/bacon Mac and cheese meals masquerading as pizzas, and I'm still not sure how they pull this shit off. The mad scientist vibes are too real. I would describe their menu as typical entree items that they somehow ingeniously fuse into a pizza. You're getting anything but a typical bread/sauce/cheese slice (which they do still offer.) Yes, the medium is a pizza, but the experience is a dish traditionally not served as a pie. Most of their pizzas can be made vegetarian or vegan, and they consistently switch up their menu with crazy new recipes. I love that they collab with other local restaurants to offer wildly creative specials. I'd do anything to be a fly on the wall when they come up with the names for all their pizzas because the wordplay/puns are undefeated. Just wish I lived a little closer so I could order from here on a weekly basis. read more

With the way they make their pizza I don't even mind that I'm allergic to dairy, because their vegan pizza is amazing. The sauce, dough and fresh toppings make up for the lack of mozzarella in vegan cheese. (that's the best way I can put it). Been here numerous times since my one not so great experience and it's always been on point. They also sell cloud bites (vegan ice cream sandwiches). They were the type of dessert to make non vegans say, "are these really vegan?" Actually, as I was eating the sea salt caramel flavor, I was actually questioning if I had misread the sign, could this really be dairy free? They're a little pricey for the size you get but nonetheless tasty. read more

Ok i have been wanting to come here for two years and always have something come up or I'm in the area way to early in the day. BUT it finally happened! Some beautiful Michigan weather so took the trek to Detroit and grabbed this pizza and headed to belle isle to enjoy! Pulled up and ordered, I def recommend ordering ahead and coming bc there isn't a lot to park but street parking, the cars move quickly tho! After a long debate because I wanted one slice of everything lol I decided on the jerky boys pizza. It was so garlicky which in my book is a HUGE win! (garlic is one my favorite things) Mozzarella, jerk chicken, onion, pineapple and roasted jalapeño bbq was delicately and strategically placed so every bite was flavor packed. Def gonna ask for more sauce next time it is was the perfect addition to compliment the chicken and esp the pineapple! Can't wait to explore the rest of the menu! read more
