So it's a small shop, But it has an amazing product. The pizza that this place produced was outstanding! You come in it's a small situation but that just means that people can actually be friendly and personable with you. I came in, the guy noticed my shirt and we started talking about a few of things before we even got to the food. He was nice and he had the guy come from back and we all had a really good conversation so they treat you like humans. Super duper nice. And as far as customer service goes, that's something that I appreciate very much. It's a really not big place but has a lot of odd and weird decorations, really retro. Plenty of stuff on the walls, all size glass beakers around the walls, just a lot of random things put in place but it's really cool. But the main event for all this was the food. The food was amazing! We all tried three different pizzas. Before we get to that, the menu is a lot to handle! The menu is going to be a hell of a thing to investigate because there's so much on the menu. We looked at me for like 10 or 15 minutes trying to figure out what to get because there was so many different flavor combinations different flavor profiles to think about, it was insane. But I like the fact that they have a lot of options versus just the standard piece of shop with like eight toppings at max. But if you go, prepare to stare at the menu for a while. Speaking of the menu, the menu changes every season. So it'll change again at the beginning of December. All these weird and interesting flavors that they come up with, you can get them but only for unlimited a time. The pizza of the week changes once a week though, so that when you really got to get it as soon as it comes out. But they really keep you guessing! We tried three pizzas, and they were all great. The first one was The fig Lebowski And it was awesome. It had a lot of sweet to it, but the meat on there made it savory as well. It was really really good. The next one was a Hawaiian pizza which was the Hawaii 50. Also another one that has some sweetness because of the barbecue sauce but some savoriness as well. I know people feel some type of way about pineapples on a pizza but I can't worry about that! It was really really good. The last one that we tried was the Notorious PIG which was more so of a meat lovers kind of deal. And all the meat there on the pizza was awesome! Now none of these pizzas missed whatsoever! They were all phenomenal. Got them in a square Detroit style, obviously. Had the right amount of crust crispy just like it needs to be. I even asked for some of the occasion spice and sprinkle that on the pizza as well so that actually adds to it because now you can actually produce a sweet savory and spicy profile and that was off the charge too. This place did not miss whatsoever. Next time I'm home, I'm definitely going to go ahead and try what else to have! Everything is super affordable, you may pay like $10 or so for a square small pizza, but it goes up in price. So between $10 and $60. Depends on how specialty the pizza is. But for $10 you're definitely going to get full! I would 11 out of 10 recommend this place! read more

The place promises intrigue in a pizza, and it delivered for me. Their menu ranges from the basic to the esoteric, and I tried something somewhere in the middle which amounted to being basically a Greek salad on a pizza. It had feta, roasted beets, pickled banana peppers, fresh tomatoes, and some lettuce to top it off. While they offer a conventional circular pizza in two sizes, to get a more Detroit-y rectangular pizza, one has to get a large. I must say, though, it was a great deal, as I got two meals out of that thing for just over $20 with tip. The flavor combination was different, but not crazy enough as to turn me off. While the foccacia-style crust did have a nice crispness, it didn't have quite the level of browned cheese ringing it that the old-school Detroit-style places have. I would also note that they will make virtually anything vegan (with numerous meat substitutes as well as vegan cheese) or gluten-free for an extra charge, which is unusual for the more traditional Italian places. They had a Detroit soda brand that I would have liked, but given the level of caloric intake my vacations entail, I passed it up. They don't really offer anything other than pizza and beverages, but for those things, they deliver as promised. I would also note that in addition to a few indoor tables, they have a substantial outdoor patio where one can eat and relax. read more

I have been hearing amazing things about Pie Sci for quite some time now. I don't know why it's taken me so long to finally make it over here. It was my understanding that Pie Sci has a lot of "funky" pizzas- unique, non-traditional options that you probably won't see at most or any other pizza places. What I didn't understand was that the menu is seasonal-ish. There's a seasonal menu, but it doesn't exactly coordinate with the seasons as I had (incorrectly) assumed. The summer menu didn't start until July 5th, so when I was looking at the menu in the first few days of July in preparation for our trip here, I didn't realize that it was the spring menu. I got everyone all excited, not realizing that we weren't going to be able to get those items. I do take responsibility for that, but I do wish it was a little clearer. The pizzas that we did end up getting were phenomenal. The disappointment of not getting the flavors we came here for quickly disappeared after those first few bites. Everything was delicious. The ingredients were fresh. We would definitely come back to try more options without hesitation. The courtyard seating out back was nice. Customer service was excellent. My favorite pizza in the world. Yes... I only ordered a pepperoni square pizza because I was with my kid and it was late and she has the pickiest of palates that I've been trying to work on for years. As soon as I picked up my rental I called to see if it was too late to order. I drove a little faster than I should (but somehow not as fast as others on the highway) but made it in time to have the best fucking pizza ever. The staff were super chill and positive and make the best tasting sauce and dough. That undercarriage had the best crunch. My picky AF kid said it was the best pizza she had too. If we weren't staying 1.5 hours away from here we'd revisit over and over again. Love the names of their other pizzas not only because they sound delicious as hell but love the names of them too (Big Simpsons, hip hop, and Bob's Burger's fan/millennial stuff). I was fine eating in the restaurant but found out they had a super chill outdoor backyard dining area with picnic tables and soft lights. When you're in a city for the first time, and you're craving pizza, you want what they're known for. In New York, you want some thin crust (Lombardi's, Rubirosa, the place that sells 'em for two bucks on the corner). In Chicago, you want the tavern cut or the deep dish (Pequod's, Bartoli's, Burt's Place if you're willing to venture just north of the city limits). In Detroit, you want the, well, it's named for the city. But, with so many options, where do you go? Do you go with the original? With the trendy? How about you just go with the best? Pie Sci is incredible. There's no other way to say it. Fresh ingredients (they grow most of the veggies themselves, and it's all sourced locally) on top of delicious sauce all over that perfect Detroit style crust. The best part? You can get the full tray of the eggplant pie for $16. $16! If you're smart, you can make that dinner for a week. Of, if you're like us, a perfect late lunch where you realize you may not have needed that last slice, but it was damn good. In Chicago, only one place does this, a ghost kitchen called Five Squared, and as great as it is they're doing it at twice the price. What a great find just across the street from Wayne State. Stopped in with some friends for lunch between volleyball games and I could not have been happier with the choice. They have slices for a quick order, or you can order small and large square and round pizzas. I highly recommend the Detroit Style square. I had the meat lovers square (4 slice) and it was one of the best I have had. The crust had that slight hint of a great yeast dough, superb crunch, plentiful meat toppings, all with the perfect amount of char or crisp. Pie-Sci has been on my list for a while now, but I'm rarely in Detroit. I had to go downtown today to pick up my Yelp award (Takeout Queen, lol) and Pie-Sci was only about 5 minutes away. I also recently saw someone post about their pickle pizza and it looked amazing, so we stopped by today. They're only doing curbside right now, but it was very easy. We pulled up to their curb and someone came out to take my boyfriend's credit card. We were able to add tip when they came back out with the card and the pizzas, too. We ordered two small pizzas: Pickle Rick, with no beef, and bacon on only half (I'm not a big fan of bacon on pizza), and Toum Raider (ha), with chicken, feta, red onion, and a lemon garlic drizzle. TR usually comes with hummus too but I asked for no hummus. Both pizzas were great but surprisingly, Toum Raider was my favorite. I'd give it 5/5 stars, by far. I'd give the pickle pizza 3.5/5 stars, it was good but I've had better pickle pizza before. Pie-Sci still gets 5/5 from me based on the great curbside service and also the overall taste of the pizza. Definitely will stop by next time I'm on that side of town, too. read more

I went here with a friend and lord have mercy on my taste buds it was delicious! There are plenty of options for both meat lovers and vegans which was a nice surprise! I ended up getting the Science Lab weekly special which was the "Are you stroganoff to be my man" absolute wonderful. Having been in Detroit for 4 years for school I've done myself a great disservice of not going here sooner. I finally went to try this place after hearing good things about the pizza and was glad I did. I got carry out because they were closing in less than an hour, but my order didn't take long and was worth the wait. Crust on both pies were crispy and chewy, perfect amount of cheese, red sauce very flavorful and lots of fresh basil and cherry tomatoes on the Margherita. Lots of options on the menu as you can see in photos. The staff were very friendly and working hard yet giving you their full attention. One nice gesture was when an employee asked a customer if he was especially hungry that night, because the first pizza he made for him, "was a little overcooked, so I made another one. You can have them both and the first one is free." Which was very nice as the customer said he had kids at home that would appreciate it, but I thought it was a great example of keeping high quality standards for the product you're charging people. Making sure they got the best, so they'll remain loyal, recommend the place to family and friends and not waste it. The place could seat about 30 people with bench seat along the wall and chairs on other side of tables. I noticed high chair seats for kids and there's enough space if a customer used a wheelchair. Parking is limited to the street(s) and only 1 side of Trumbull and side-streets. I'm glad I stopped by because now I have a new favorite spot for good pizza. Go check it out! read more

It pains me to write this review, because I've had good experiences a couple months back, but it feels like this place is going downhill fast. Note for the owners - if you've recently hired some new cooks, they are bad!! Please retrain them or get better cooks, because they are dragging down the restaurant! Example - we visited on Friday, Sept 16th, and both of our pizzas came out burnt. The pizza with red sauce had hardly any sauce on it at all. My order was place online(toast). It doesn't give you an option to modify anything. My order was placed at 1:06pm. I called right after it was place to ask for no cajun seasoning. I was told it was already in the oven. They couldn't make another one unless I paid. I spoke with a manager and I was informed the same thing. I was told to call next time for a order. I went to pick up my food and I was told they refunded my order. I wasted time driving there. If you decide to cancel my order why not call me to inform me? I will not return. This place is AMAZING! We ended up ordering out from here one night and so unfortunately I wasn't able to see what the inside looked like. But the variety of pizzas and the number of gluten free/vegetarian options was refreshing! The menu is full of punny pizza names with the types of pizza ranging from your typical Margherita to fancy Cashew Rules Everything Around Me. They seem to have options for everyone, and they even have a breakfast pizza option they serve on Sundays. I ordered the ICP also knows as the Insane Cauliflower Pizza which is red sauce, mozzarella covered in roasted spiced cauliflower and feta, red onion, jalapeño. Finally to top it off it has this balsamic glaze drizzle. All in all a delicious pizza! My friend got the Margherita with gluten free crust which she stated was one of her favorites and tasted almost like the original! Move over Chicago deep dish- I think I've fallen in love with a different kind of pizza place. When I think of the name Pie Sci, I think of Bill Nye simply because it rhymes and pizza is a science. This brief stopover in Detroit ended up in a place with unique pizza combinations that serves them up in a way that makes me crave it more and more. I've had Detroit style pizza before but this recent trip has solidified me as a fan. Since my friend and I work in higher education, we had to get pizzas off their "U Of Pizza" category. We felt like we were about to graduate with our PhDs in pizzametry just from eating here. The Hani Depp Detroit-Style was amazing! The crust was one of the best I've ever had on a pizza and the combination of cheese, lettuce, tomato, and herb mayo blended everything together. We had these for leftovers a few hours later and it was still phenomenal. Similarly, Weird Al Pastor with pork, pineapple, and red onions was just as amazing. Choosing to bake it as a white pizza really sold this one for me and I have to say eating two solid choices of gourmet pizza made this trip all so worth it. Plus, the outdoor dining patio is gorgeous and reminded me of days out in a park with family, friends, and food. If you choose to get a fountain drink, they serve local Detroit sodas for you to sample as well. Pie Sci = 100% Totally would come back here again if I'm in the area. read more

I was LONG overdue for my first visit to Pie Sci this past weekend. Enter the CheddarKenny - topped with garlic oil, caramelized onions and apples, mozzarella, cheddar and a meat substitute to replace the bacon if you order it vegetarian. Apples?! On pizza?! I was intrigued. Ok, real talk - I never knew I needed caramelized apples on my pie until I took the first bite. HOLY HELL, it was I N C R E D I B L E!!! The subtle sweetness of the fruit married SO well with the perfectly caramelized onions. The flavor profile was so unique and I really appreciated the creativity and thought that went into this absolute BANGER of a combination. We also ordered a couple gluten free pizzas for the kids and they LOVED them. When asked if we should get pizza from here again, there was a big, resounding YES! I had just missed the previous week's special that also looked amazing - the Pamela Tamaranderson (LOL) but really, what other place would even think to top a pizza with tamarind?? Soooo, I will be stalking Pie Sci's Insta in hopes that this special will return again soon. Big bonus points for the extra care taken during these crazy COVID days. Upon calling in the order, they said to just pull up in front and someone would bring out pizzas to our car. They also requested that masks be on, which I really appreciated. We all have to take care of one another these days! If off-the-beaten-path toppings aren't your forte, there are plenty of more traditional options. There is something for everyone! Oh my goodness. This pizza is AMAZING. I don't know why it took me years to try it. First, I applaud them for their covid safety measures. It's only curbside pick up. I feel like a lot of restaurants are super sloppy / not safe when it comes to covid, but I feel safe with how seriously Pie Sci is taking it. Second, they have such unique pizzas. Also every week they seem to have some kind of special pizza that's a little weird. They're killing me because each time it sounds so good, so I have to get it! The last one I tried was their Thanksgiving one which sounds weird but is good. It had turkey, stuffing, mashed potato, mushroom gravy, and cranberry sauce on it. Third, the pizzas are so flavorful and the crust is perfect to me. Every pizza I tried was bursting with flavor. I'm guessing they use fresh ingredients and you can tell. I'm not sure if it's because I've greatly reduced how much I eat out since covid started, and this is one of the only pizzas I've eaten, but the crust is so delicious.
