My friends and I came to visit Detroit and of course, we had to get some deep dished Detroit-styled pizzas. Grandma Bob's was highly recommended, and we are so glad we came by!! There were 6 of us so we had to put our name down and it was a ~30 min wait, but so worth it. We ordered the Cashew Caesar Salad to start followed by 3 types of medium sized pizzas: Pepperoni, Meat Lovers and Sausage + Pistachio. The food came out so quickly and SO tasty. I love a good Caesar Salad and the cashews added such a nice nutty taste to it - a hefty portion as well where all of us got a solid serving. The pizzas were cut, luckily, in 6 - super hot and the cheese pulls were so satisfying. My favourite was the Sausage and Pistachio - I've never had one like this and as someone who loves pistachio, the combination worked so well. All to say, the other 2 were also delicious. The pizzas were meaty and I appreciate how they also had vegan/vegetarian substitutions if needed. 10/10 service as well, and our server was awesome! Such a fun spot with lots of seating to accommodate all different sized parties with bar seating as well. First time in Detroit and had to check out some Detroit-style pizza. This came up and decided to drive out and give it a try. There is street parking and a lot in the back where you pay through your phone. You seat yourself. It is communal tables and about 10-12 seats at the bar. I sat down and the bartender was very attentive. I asked if the pizzas under the Deep Dish section is Detroit Pizza. The medium was described as 12"x10" and cut 6 squares. I got that thinking I'd take the rest home. I got the spicy pepperoni which comes with pepperoni, banana peppers, ricotta, Mike's Hot Honey and oregano. Nice selection of drinks if you do partake in beverages. Pizza was absolutely amazing. The crust, sauce, cheese and toppings came together well. Did I have some to take home? No. That could have been easily shared with 1-2 others too. Solid place. No idea what to compare to, but enjoyable. read more

A solid pizza! Tried the pepperoni without the hot honey (not a fan) and added ricotta. The ricotta didn't add much to the pizza flavor wise so didn't really need it. The pepperoni was good. The crust was the right texture and flavor. Also tried a slice of the thin crust pickle pizza- also very good! Tried a couple pieces of the halal pepperoni. I came here to try the Spread Dough monthly special. The restaurant is very cool inside. Community style table seating with some bar seating as well makes up the interior. Service was quick and the server was very friendly. Onto the pizzas. I ordered two. One was the special chicken caesar pizza. The other was the meat lovers. Both "medium" Detroit styles. I did find it funny they have "medium" and "xl" which are small and large sizes cut into more slices. Oh well. The $30 caesar pizza was very good. As it was for a charitable cause, I was not as offended with the price tag as ai would've been if this was a normal price. That being said, $30 for a small pizza is pretty up there. This was a great pizza though. Chicken was great and the dressing was some of the best I've had. The roe didn't add much at all (allowed them to jack up the price), but I'm glad I tried this. As for the meatlovers, I was not as pleased. The crust could've been a but crispier; especially the edges. The toppings were good; pretty good amount of them too. The mortadella was the star for me. The biggest problem I had was with the sauce. It was too thin for me. It was almost runny. Also some tomato chunks (which I don't care for) made it a bit of a bummer. Took my son to try Detroit style pizza and this place had gluten free options as well as some great reviews. My gluten free pizza was not a Detroit style deep dish pizza. The crust was burnt on the outside but the middle crust was not cooked through. How do o know? Because it was lukewarm under the toppings. The toppings were fine. I didn't say anything until my son asked me a question about his pizza. He ordered a supreme Detroit style pizza and wondered if the middle of his dough is supposed to stick to his teeth like raw dough and it wasn't hot in the middle either. I said no. Mine is the same way. So our pictures look great but when you bite into the pizza, it wasn't. We aren't the type to send stuff back but I'm wondering why all these reviews are so glowing. I ended up just eating the rest of my toppings. Left the crust. my son just dint finish his. Maybe we experienced an off night but he's kind of scared to try any more Detroit style pizza. I really like this location there's parking behind the restaurant as well as you're right next to the train station so if you wanna get a beautiful tour and eat some delicious pizza after. I really like the fact that they have ample vegan options the vegan big Mac is my favorite choice. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. i've never sat down and eaten inside because the space is pretty cramped and tight for my folks who are wheelchair users probably not the best choice. This pizza is amazingggggg. Came during dinner on a Sunday night and it was pretty busy but luckily bar was open seating. Great ambiance inside, there's shared tables for table seating, or the bar. Service was great and everyone was super friendly. Started with the Jalapeño cheese bread which was delicious! The five cheese blend pretty good on it. In all honesty, we could've done without the cheese bread since it's quite similar to the pizzas, and we didn't want to fill up before the pizzas. If I could recommend anything, get the spicy pepperoni. This pizza was curated to perfection. Biting into the crust and getting a piece of pepperoni, banana peppers, a little bit of red sauce AND ricotta cheese, finished with the most perfect crunch of the crust, might just be one of the best things I'll eat here. My dad was in town for 2 days, and this pizza was so good (his first time trying), he wanted to come back his second night for dinner just to have it again. Multiple internet recommendations sent us here, and they were all correct. Stunning, delicious pizza. If this is Detroit pizza, sign me right up. Delicious sauce, well seasoned and cooked mushrooms (not canned or raw like inferior pizzerias provide), a great blend of cheeses, and that crust -- thick and crispy but somehow also soft at the same time, hearty but not too heavy either. The six-piece medium was a pretty epic feast for me and my kid, could possibly even have fed 3 people. I also got a vegan Caesar salad which was light and pleasant--who knew that there was good vegan parm available? There was a modest 20-min wait for a table but we snagged a pair of seats at the bar with 3 minutes' wait and we were lavished with attention by the bar staff. I've said in other reviews that I dock a star for needlessly loud interiors. No penalty here! Music was at a fun but comfortable volume, and the dining room is smaller than it looks in pictures so it wasn't a huge crowd. Result: a comfortable dining experience! Grandma Bob's is an absolute must if you're in Detroit! Detroit style pizza is some of my favorite pizza and this did not disappoint! Grandma bobs has plenty of vegan options making it super inclusive for those with dietary restrictions. We ordered the vegan kale salad which was unexpectedly delicious! For pizza we ordered the Big Mack (which we opted for non vegan) and the mushroom pie! The Big Mack was the star of the show --- highly highly recommend! There is really no better place for pizza in Detroit. This special spot on Michigan Ave is my favorite. They have THE best pizza for both vegans and omnivores. The vegan caesar salad is magical. On top of that, they have vegan ice cream. I ordered a float and had Faygo rock n rye for the first time in like 30 years. Yummy treat. I didn't order alcoholic drinks on this visit, but their bar is well stocked (with many local spirits too) and the bartenders will make you the perfect cocktail. I like a good Negroni riff here. I tried the Pickle Pizza and the Lobster Roll Pizza. The Pickle Pizza stood out in a good way. It was made with sweet pickles, a dill cream sauce, and bits of bacon layered in with the cheese. It was flavorful, unexpected, and well balanced. The Lobster Roll Pizza was made Detroit style and topped with generous pieces of lobster, chips and it comes with a side of melted butter ... The flavor itself was solid, but the crust underneath was a little too soft and almost underbaked. For a $50 pizza, I was expecting a better texture. It might have helped if the dough had been precooked or crisped up before the lobster was added. Overall, Grandma Bob's is a creative and welcoming spot with good service and a lot of personality. I mean when else are you going to get pistachio on a pizza? Throw in Ricotta, sausage, rosemary....sounds amazing in theory. As beautiful as this pizza was, the flavors just don't come through. The sausage would have greatly benefited from fennel, or even crushed red pepper. Out of the lot, I can't really name a single ingredient that stood out. With that being said, the crust was done justice with a nice chew and that signature crispy edges I've come to love from this style. Oh Detroit, how I love you for gifting humanity the wonder that is a Detroit style pizza. I so wanted to love Grandma Bobs pizza. This is hands down the best vegan pizza I've ever had!!! My kids have severe allergies (dairy, eggs, fish, peanuts, some tree nuts, and sesame) and Grandma Bob's came through not just this time but last year as well and I forgot to place a review. We did not have any issues at all! Besides the sad disappoint of getting there to find out they had NO VEGAN ICE CREAM!!! One of the reasons we came back was for that b/c my kids enjoyed it so much. So they may could do a better job of posting that on their website and/or Facebook page. Our waiter (Alex), who was amazing, let us know that it would be back next Friday lol! I was like well we are visiting all the way from PA and wouldn't be back next Friday. Nothing else disappointed though! We got the Big Mack which is all vegan and you couldn't tell at all!!
