With the way they make their pizza I don't even mind that I'm allergic to dairy, because their vegan pizza is amazing. The sauce, dough and fresh toppings make up for the lack of mozzarella in vegan cheese. (that's the best way I can put it). Been here numerous times since my one not so great experience and it's always been on point. They also sell cloud bites (vegan ice cream sandwiches). They were the type of dessert to make non vegans say, "are these really vegan?" Actually, as I was eating the sea salt caramel flavor, I was actually questioning if I had misread the sign, could this really be dairy free? Ok i have been wanting to come here for two years and always have something come up or I'm in the area way to early in the day. BUT it finally happened! Some beautiful Michigan weather so took the trek to Detroit and grabbed this pizza and headed to belle isle to enjoy! Pulled up and ordered, I def recommend ordering ahead and coming bc there isn't a lot to park but street parking, the cars move quickly tho! After a long debate because I wanted one slice of everything lol I decided on the jerky boys pizza. It was so garlicky which in my book is a HUGE win! (garlic is one my favorite things) Mozzarella, jerk chicken, onion, pineapple and roasted jalapeño bbq was delicately and strategically placed so every bite was flavor packed. We had someone recommend this place so we decided to check it out. This place is definitely worth the five star rating! They are so many flavorful and interesting topping options. It was a group of three of us and we decided to build our own pie. They have small and large options for the pie and they also offer either round or deep dish options. All of the ingredients tasted super fresh and it is hands down one of the best pizzas I've had in a while. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere of the place is very chill! So many options for regular and specialty pizzas but if you cannot decide then definitely build your own because it's worth it! If you are a visual person, I've included a picture of our pizzas for proof of how delicious they looked when they were brought out. The restaurant has indoor seating and and outdoor patio area. If the weather is nice and you like being outside I definitely recommend enjoying your pie outside. The outdoor patio is cute and offers a nice outdoor environment for you to enjoy a delicious meal. I can say this was one of the very best pizzas I've ever had, and it was -- wait for it -- vegan. More evidence to the fact that anyone can indeed go vegan if they really want to. My girlfriend and I got the Tamale G and the Nacho Mama pizza to split. We got the smaller sizes of them, and it turned out to be more than enough, as hungry as we were -- we had a slice each as leftovers. So, the Tamale G -- the vegan version is the same as non with a few exceptions. Of course, there's vegan cheese. There is also seitan instead of pulled pork, and the honey Valentina sauce drizzle is simply Valentina. This was pretty damn tasty. The masa crumbles perfectly mimicked the taste of a tamale when mixed with the pork-textured seitan. My biggest problem with the vegan version of the pizza is that the hot sauce is abundant and salty as hell. Maybe they could have used agave Valentina instead of honey. A little sweetness would have done wonders. The Nacho Mama is truly one of the best pizzas I've had. First, it was massive -- the toppings were to the point of excess, honestly, because it became difficult to eat without them falling all off. But, it did look phenomenal. It's a fairly minor thing, but it was certainly the prettiest pizza I've seen (See: Pictures). The "meat" on the pizza basically had me reeling because I couldn't tell if it was vegan or not until I saw the texture of a piece when it fell out. Truthfully, with all the flavor going on this pizza, I don't know that it even needed the vegan cheese on it because I didn't taste it anyway. The "small" pizza is a monster and massively filling. Delicious. The prices for their small pizzas seem a bit high ... until you get served. Huge pies, and they happily cater to vegans (I'd wager they make up a significant portion of their customers.) The options always change, and the creativity never seems to end with PieSci -- I look forward to my next visit and them hopefully popping up more around Michigan. Many creative pizzas on the menu, but I opt'd for the Detroit deep dish ... to see how it compares to Buddy's, Loui's, etc. The pizza was served hot, straight from the oven and I enjoyed two pieces before leaving. It was good, not great. My observations: -Too damn salty. I was craving water all afternoon. - I would appreciate a bit more sauce. - Not a good cold/breakfast pizza. Do not eat here if you are gluten sensitive!!!! My husband and I ate here for dinner and now he is very sick from their "gluten free" pizza. It's a risk you take when eating out but he has not been this ill from gluten in so long. If someone ever asks me if being vegan makes me feel deprived of delicious food (especially pizza), I'll kindly point them in Pie Sci's direction. Not only do they have an ever-changing menu full of creative and delicious-sounding pizza, but almost all of them can be made vegan and vegetarian and they're honestly the best people in the world for that. Two of us split two smalls (and had leftovers, in addition to being so full we hated ourselves for a little while). Not bad for $24 -- including the $1 sticker I bought because stickers. The vegan Nacho Mama is absolutely loaded with toppings and I really don't think anyone would be able to tell it's vegan. The lettuce + tomatoes were fresh and healthy-looking and the rest of the toppings were great, as well. My boyfriend felt the Tamale G needed a bit of sweetness in the hot sauce (it presumably uses regular Valentina while the non-vegan uses honey Valentina), but I didn't think it was missing anything. I ordered take out and didn't get a chance to see the inside of the place so this review is purely for the food experience. We bought a large ($15) "Are you Alfredo the dark?" (Creamy Alfredo sauce, mozzarella, chicken, fresh mushroom and shaved parmesan cheese) and a small ($9) "Jerky boys" (White pizza with garlic oil, mozzarella, jerk chicken, red onion, pineapple, and roasted jalapeño BBQ drizzle.). They were both fantastic but the winner was definitely the Detroit style Alfredo pizza. With the crispy corners and perfect balance of creamy Alfredo sauce...you literally couldn't ask for more. I so badly wish they had a location in Chicago. If I'm ever back in Detroit this will be my first stop. read more

Came with a small group and we each ordered a small pizza so we could sample the eclectic menu. We had the Poblano Picasso, the Meat Lovers, Hani Depp, the Al Pastor pizza and their special ( a white pizza with anchovies, capers and roasted peppers. Each pizza pie was so unique and flavor it really surprised us! The crust is an immediate stand-out, slightly crisp on the outside with a pillowy softness on the inside that really blew my mind. Each pizza was so different but they all had one thing in common, high quality ingredients! My favorite was the Al Pastor pizza, it was the best non traditional pizza of ever had. Good place for pizza! I found about this place while looking in Google for places to eat, it has great reviews. Went there for dinner, their menu was overwhelming. It has so many options to choose and different combination of all kinds of foods. I liked their interior, nice decorations and creativity. It was a not so crowded when I went there but later it started to filling up. They don't have a lot of tables to dine in, most of them are to go. Ordered a small Jerky Boys, it was a weird combination of flavors. It had bbq sauce, jerk chicken and pineapple. This mix of flavors made my pizza taste no good. I researched this spot and read tons of reviews before actually ordering. Recently I was in the area so i decided to give them a try especially since they had vegan options to accommodate my recent lifestyle change. I called my order in for carry-out, stopped in picked up my order and was only way. I went for the Shell Raiser pizza, it was delicious! The actual building reminds me of the typical pizza shop in any college town of America. Extremely cool nostalgic ambiance. The employees were friendly my order was ready when promised. The pricing was typical for made to order pizzas. I only wish I were eating the normal style pizzas I'm sure they would be awesome as well! I was totally satisfied with my pizza and experience and plan on returning when I get that pizza crave. It's definitely worth the drive. Came here for the first time during lunch break with a friend. I'd have to say, I was very pleased with the reviews that I had read on yelp prior to arriving. This is a relatively small spot, nice and cozy with pretty cool artwork on the walls. As for the pies, they are delicious. We went with two personal pizzas 10" each, and around $9-11. Pretty good deal. I had the Notorious P.I.G. since i love pork. It had pulled pork, bacon, ham, pepperoni and drizzled with sweet baby ray's bbq sauce. The pizza came out hot, crispy, and burnt my tongue and palate every time I took a bite. But it was totally worth it. Overall, loved the pizza there. The challenge of course is that I'm not a Detroiter currently (though I was born and raised) and I'm only in town a half dozen or so times a year to visit family. But the stars aligned during my last visit and I had a chance to give this place a try. It just so happened sis#1 and I were accompanying my Dad for a doctor's appointment that thankfully went well. While waiting for my Dad's prescriptions, I called my Mom to give her a status. She wasn't in the mood to cook so asked me to pick up something to eat. I saw my opportunity and gave them a call. The guy answering the phone was very cordial and patient as I gave my order. I chose to do two large BYO Pies. I did one red with pepperoni, mushroom, and basil. The other one I did white with just mozzarella. It wound up being great timing when we finally left the hospital to pick it up. Street parking was plentiful once I arrived there. The place itself was pretty chill, reminded me of a college type eatery. I recognized the guy who answered the phone and he helped me get my order continuing to be pleasant. The pizza smelled great and I couldn't wait to try it. So Pie Sci really knows how to cook a great pizza. It got rave reviews from the family. I liked the chewy crust with a hint of crunch in it. My favorite pie of the two wound up being the mozzarella pizza. I'm really glad I finally had a chance to give them a try and introduce myself to another style of pizza. Pie Sci is one of the most interesting pizza shops I've been to. I strongly prefer it over Supino's as the pizza tastes better and they are open later as well. They have seasonal pizzas that combine toppings and ingredients from other types of food and put in on a pizza. For instance, the Mack Attack is a cheeseburger/Big Mac re-imagined on a pizza and the Jimmy Pesto is a pesto chicken pasta on pizza. There is moderate seating for groups up to 4 and the price and portions are reasonable. For $10 a person, you can enjoy 3-4 slices as well as get a drink. They also have local Detroit City soda for $2.50. The staff is very friendly and there is 1 Hour Street Parking around the corner. The pizza was not overly greasy and was freshly baked.
