I have never been to a place like this nor do I play Pickleball (yet), but while visiting Iowa, our friends took us here and it was a memorable experience. They have very good comfort food and a nice selection of adult beverages. I had the bacon mac which I enjoyed. The place was clean and our server was friendly. I love that they have indoor activities like bowling and pickleball with another upstairs bar with indoor and outdoor seating with more activities like corn hole. I think others are overly harsh on their critiques of the establishment. It is not meant for fine dining; it's a place to have fun for a few hours. Our friends that live in Iowa took us here because we have gotten into pickleball and thought this would be a cool place to check out. They certainly spend a lot of money and I hope it's busy every single day. I know if their was an establishment like this in California it would be super pricy to play and eat. The service was awesome and the gal took great care of us and came back to check on us often. The food was okay. They made really good margaritas and the spicy bloody was the best I have had. My cobb salad would have been amazing if they had better or homemade dressing. It was very thick and had no flavor. We had to taste the fried cheese and it was really good, but very salty. I would have to eat one and then wait 15 minutes to eat another one. It was delicious though. My husband had the meat sundae I think and he liked the dish and the horseradish sauce was good and not too over powering. I love that they offer airline chicken which I am assuming it is "air chilled" which has not been dipped into chlorine or antibiotics!? I can only recommend the fried cheese curds, which are EXCEPTIONALLY good, and unique! The rest of the food is perfectly acceptable bar food, and nothing more. The only highlight beyond the curds is the view from the roof. Staff couldn't have been less interested in us being there, and came across as mildly annoyed with most requests. I'm sure we'll be back, as there is not much going on in Cedar Rapids, but if this was in a bigger city, they'd *really* have to step up their food game. read more

We stopped in there last Tuesday mid afternoon after hearing a lot of positive things. First off, the hostess was super nice, we told her we were just going to grab a spot at the bar. Since it was mid afternoon, it was pretty empty. The interior, and the bar area is nice looking. And the bar is quite large with a good number of TV's. The first bartender was and helpful. We only had the chance to order drinks from her once then she must have left, because another one took our food order. I ordered a Cobb Salad (with some changes) and it was good and something I would probably order again. My husband ordered the Hot Beef Sundae Bowl (w/out the horseradish cream) he said it was ok except for the gravy. I tried a bite and have to agree. There was not enough, and it wasn't a brown gravy which surprised both of us. It tasted like a chicken gravy?? When wanting to get our check we were trying to get the bartender's attention but she was on her phone FaceTimeing or something. So unfortunately, we had to wait a bit. This place is everything that is wrong with food in Iowa. I think the type of menu they're going for is "farm wife who lives in a town that has a Dollar General instead of a grocery store." To their credit, I'm pretty sure most things were house made. I don't think it's possible to buy horseradish sauce as gross as the horseradish sauce on their steak sandwich. It was like the Churchill martini of horseradish sauce. I think it was 99% sour cream. It definitely ruined the sandwich. The mashed potatoes had decent gravy. I think they were going for rustic with the potatoes, but they were just sloppy. I'm not a very good cook, but I would have put the mashed potatoes right in the trash if I had made them. The potatoes had zero flavor, and there were chunks of potato that were bigger than the potatoes should be diced before you boil them. They were just bad. As I was writing this, my wife asked me what I was doing. I told her, and she said "Make sure you mention the hair that was in the dessert." I hadn't noticed that, but now that she mentioned it, I remember her picking something out of the dessert. We also had the pickle wrap dip. I'm not sure why anyone would dice ham into tiny cubes and then plunge them into some sort of cream cheese dip that looks like cottage cheese, but the fried saltines that came with it were pretty good. In total, my wife and I split an appetizer, an entree, two sides, and a dessert. The only thing I would get again was the iced tea, which was fine. I'm not sure why I went with two stars instead of one. I guess it's because everything was technically edible. read more

Not usually the type to write reviews, but this place is genuinely the only place I feel like I have to for. I've been in a few times, the food is average, nothing special at all really. The location and overall vibe in the restaurant is nice. I'm younger so it's somewhere I thought I'd enjoy, however the service is absolutely horrible. As a server for 5 years, I know restaurants and how customer service is supposed to be. Not once have I been in and thought that my service was good. I actually had an event there about a year ago and the servers who were "running it" took our food away without even asking if we needed boxes or if we were done. Next, anytime we would ask for something, they acted like we were making their life extremely difficult. Multiple times would catch them in a corner just chatting instead of doing their job and it was quite obvious they were talking about us. Rude employees, also rude managers, and just completely unprofessional business. Overall, I just can't bring myself to come to this business. It's a cool concept, but if you can't have good customer service and polite employees, it's going to go downhill very quick. People who work/ worked in restaurants would know right away if service is good or bad. Would not recommend. read more

The hamburger patty seemed to be fast food, the type of hamburger patty where you don't have to tell them medium or rare it's more of a Burger King patty very unsatisfying. Went to give The Pickle Palace a try and while the food is great, I am left feeling wanting. A 5 star fine dining this is not. My biggest complaint is that the staff were rather very lax. My server was in sweats and sandals with a beanie and all the other staff could have been confused as a guest or a pickleball player instead of a food server. The food though was delicious. The fish was fried to a fine outer crisp while still being moist and tender within. The tartar sauce had a little more dill than my preference but that's not picking. The biscuit was massive, the size of my palm. Very crunchy and cheesy but it was quite salty and dry so be sure to have plenty of beverage as you snack. The atmosphere left me wondering if the food was a second thought add on but it's a modern warehouse type of charming. Every sound echoes off the brick walls and the stone floor, but the music drowns out most conversation. The place was clean throughout, including the restrooms and the playing areas. All in all, this was an ok experience. I enjoyed it as I would have enjoyed somewhere like a chain restaurant. Will be sure to bring earplugs next time as the sports watchers were quite vocal, lol. If it wasn't for the spectacular food I probably wouldn't return but I gotta try the Mac bowl next read more

I was surprised to see the low reviews. I think after being open for a while, they have fixed some of the issues they may have had. My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered happy hour drinks and the pickle dip appetizer. Who knew you could fry saltine crackers? It was really good. They also have a cheap beer option with a rotating beer that you can get $9 pitchers. We had that and then headed upstairs to the third floor bar. Duck pin bowling and various seating areas and a different feel than the first floor. They also have a different menu so we ordered the PB&J Smashburger, which was amazing. I got the jelly on the side. Overall fun experience. I'll be back to play pickleball. It's pretty sectioned off so you forget it's there. Bathrooms were clean and staff were kind. The atmosphere are good even though some better sound absorption would go a long way to making it possible to hold a conversation without yelling in the bowling area. By far the biggest area they need to focus on is the service. It was absolutely terrible for how empty the place was. The waitress we had disappeared multiple times for 20+ minute before taking our orders and it took another 20 minutes to find them to pay the bill at the end. This was my first time at the pickle Palace. It's been open for a while now. I just haven't made it in there. Overall it was a great experience. The things I didn't like were the price to rent a Pickleball court for an hour is a little bit pricey I think. And then you can't reserve a court while you're there; you have to do it online which is weird. We recently hosted a wedding reception on the 2nd floor event space at Pickle Palace. It was PERFECT. The space is beautiful, and hardly needed any additional decoration. The event coordinator was communicative and accommodating, and was accessible for the duration of the event. The food was OUTSTANDING. We did hors devours and dessert. The chef helped us decide the best options and the baker - OMG chefs kiss. The cake, brownies, cheesecake - were all to die for. They had 2 bartenders for our 100 guests so no one was ever waiting for a drink. There were at least 3 other serving staff who were friendly and welcoming. We were able to bring in a small live band - being a Friday night it was a little difficult to find parking in the loading areas, but they offered us a dolly/cart to transport things. I really can't say enough about how wonderful everything was - which feels like such a rare thing anymore. Thank you! read more

I was so exited to try this place, but was super let down. The menu is unimpressive, but I settled on the brisket sandwich and fries. The food was meh, but the real disappointment was probably the cocktails. Good variety in the drink menu, but poor execution-- we had the prosecco cocktail and an old fashion. Prosecco was flat and the old fashion was loaded with simple syrup. If I go back I'd just stick to beer and appetizers. The pickleball courts are nice, but not an ideal spot for dinner. Pickle Palace certainly isn't bad, but for the steep prices they're asking I really cannot recommend this place. If you're going to indulge in America's newest sport fad, you might as well order a plate. We got the chicken tender plate and the pulled pork sandwich, the former shockingly flavorless. The pulled pork was ok, but for BBQ to be your main thing, the pulled pork was disappointing. Friendly staff can barely be heard at times over loud music, high ceilings with tile and wood, and the noises of pickle court players shouting and laughing. So if you're going to play ball or bowl and get hungry, could certainly do worse, but I'd never suggest going out of your way to eat here. Wish I could do 2.5. Might try this place again in the not so near future because it IS very new, but the bill after already being disappointed left a very bad taste in my mouth. read more
