Great Service (Madison)! Great Food! Great View! Our first time on the rooftop. It was great fun for a date night!

Downtown CR is a better place now that Pickleball Palace is here, I can get a workout, a quick bite and even a shirt or two in one place, I've had lunch here at least 3 times, service was amazing every single time, food was great and the whole place is just gorgeous, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat, specially for pickle heads.

Completely generic fried pickles. Big miss as it IS called Pickle Palace.

I can only recommend the fried cheese curds, which are EXCEPTIONALLY good, and unique! The rest of the food is perfectly acceptable bar food, and nothing more. The only highlight beyond the curds is the view from the roof. Staff couldn't have been less interested in us being there, and came across as mildly annoyed with most requests. I'm sure we'll be back, as there is not much going on in Cedar Rapids, but if this was in a bigger city, they'd *really* have to step up their food game.

We stopped in there last Tuesday mid afternoon after hearing a lot of positive things. First off, the hostess was super nice, we told her we were just going to grab a spot at the bar. Since it was mid afternoon, it was pretty empty. The interior, and the bar area is nice looking. And the bar is quite large with a good number of TV's. The first bartender was and helpful. We only had the chance to order drinks from her once then she must have left, because another one took our food order. I ordered a Cobb Salad (with some changes) and it was good and something I would probably order again. My husband ordered the Hot Beef Sundae Bowl (w/out the horseradish cream) he said it was ok except for the gravy. I tried a bite and have to agree. There was not enough, and it wasn't a brown gravy which surprised both of us. It tasted like a chicken gravy?? When wanting to get our check we were trying to get the bartender's attention but she was on her phone FaceTimeing or something. So unfortunately, we had to wait a bit. That one was a new one for us as we eat a lot of places all over... Overall, it was ok.

Went to give The Pickle Palace a try and while the food is great, I am left feeling wanting. A 5 star fine dining this is not. My biggest complaint is that the staff were rather very lax. My server was in sweats and sandals with a beanie and all the other staff could have been confused as a guest or a pickleball player instead of a food server. The food though was delicious. The fish was fried to a fine outer crisp while still being moist and tender within. The tartar sauce had a little more dill than my preference but that's not picking. The biscuit was massive, the size of my palm. Very crunchy and cheesy but it was quite salty and dry so be sure to have plenty of beverage as you snack. The atmosphere left me wondering if the food was a second thought add on but it's a modern warehouse type of charming. Every sound echoes off the brick walls and the stone floor, but the music drowns out most conversation. The place was clean throughout, including the restrooms and the playing areas. All in all, this was an ok experience. I enjoyed it as I would have enjoyed somewhere like a chain restaurant. Will be sure to bring earplugs next time as the sports watchers were quite vocal, lol. If it wasn't for the spectacular food I probably wouldn't return but I gotta try the Mac bowl next

Great addition to CR - Fun for everyone! We first enjoyed a happy hour drink at the bar - $6 mojitos which were delish! Next stop was pickle ball - which of course is always a blast! Finally we headed up to the RoofTop to play DuckPin Bowling while enjoying a few cocktails! The view from the roof top is beautiful! Great spot to enjoy the outdoor weather and CR city lights! It was a very busy night and the service was very timely! Looking forward to our next visit!

Amazing place the rooftop has an amazing view. But has 3 levels with pickle ball courts on the floor level. The cheese curds are a must. I had the double dog dare old fashioned which was strong but amazing. It was very busy but the servers were still attentive. They have all kinds of games you can play with. Would be a great date night. Definitely would go back.

I was surprised to see the low reviews. I think after being open for a while, they have fixed some of the issues they may have had. My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered happy hour drinks and the pickle dip appetizer. Who knew you could fry saltine crackers? It was really good. They also have a cheap beer option with a rotating beer that you can get $9 pitchers. We had that and then headed upstairs to the third floor bar. Duck pin bowling and various seating areas and a different feel than the first floor. They also have a different menu so we ordered the PB&J Smashburger, which was amazing. I got the jelly on the side. Overall fun experience. I'll be back to play pickleball. It's pretty sectioned off so you forget it's there. Bathrooms were clean and staff were kind. I'll be back especially to see the outdoor area when the weather is nice.

    Frickles!! So good
    Brett T.

We had our first visit to the pickle palace last week other than parking being an absolute disaster, it was a blast. It is not just pickle ball. We started the night eating dinner and I can say I would go there just for the food. You for sure have to try the Frickles, so good!! Then we went up stairs and played Duck bowl. If you have never played it, it looks like mini bowling but better! And the service while you bowl is also outstanding. Overall a very fun night and would highly recommend.

    Cobb salad

There's 1st floor with nice quiet atmosphere, more options on the menu, service was quick, food was good with good size portions. 3rd floor with plenty of outdoor settings on the rooftop, but a little noisy with loud music.

CBD sandwich - sooooo yummy!! Shredded chicken, avacado, cheese, bacon, super soft bun...

They named to tell people that the fish isn't Cod, not sure what the fish was. My guess is fried Catfish. Good portions and atmosphere.

Drinks were great and our food came out quickly. I got the Montreal Beef Sandwich. Tasty brisket with a great combination of flavors. Fries were good. My wife got the Salmon BLT, which was also very good, with great bacon and a nice slab of fish. She got the upcharged Brussels Sprouts for her side and they were also tasty. My brother got the Arnold Palmer Chicken Sandwich, a tea-soaked sandwich that he enjoyed. He got the house chips, and they were also good. Service was attentive, and both servers who hit up our table were great. Fun vibe, and what looks to be and up-and-coming neighborhood.

The salmon was good on my egg Benedict, but the hollandaise sauce was clumpy and it was overall underwhelming. The bite I had of my friend's lox bagel tasted pretty good. I ordered the Chocolate Chip Banana Brioche Bread Pudding for dessert and my friend order the beignets. I thought the chocolate chip and chocolate sauce overpowered the bread pudding. I would have preferred less chocolate sauce and more cream sauce to balance out the chocolate chips. However, if you are a chocolate lover and you can enjoy it with a large glass of milk it may be right up your alley. The beignet were disappointing compared to those in New Orleans. The beignet's exterior was harder than normal and they weren't as fluffy. The service was overall good, however I wish the waitress would have asked if I would like a refill, versus me flagging her down 10 minutes after my glass was empty especially since the soda/tea glasses are about half the size of other restaurants.

The vibe of Hip-Stir ha always been cool and kinda niche and this was no exception. If you don't know that they changed up their menu.. they did. It's not bad by any means, but I am pretty heartbroken about them removing the Spinach Artichoke dip. It was the best around and I'll be overjoyed when it returns. The new menu still features ramen, sandwiches and other yummy dishes. I ordered a side of Mac and cheese with my entree and the food was out in about 20 minutes which is great! Unfortunately my Mac and cheese was forgotten- our server apologized and went to "get that started", no worries. The next time our server was at our table I inquired about it again since it had been about 10 minutes, but she had forgotten yet again. She rushed back to "get it started", ok. At this point everyone was getting full and I didn't even want it anymore, but she returned a few minutes later with it. A little frustrating. The ramen has changed, unfortunately. My sister ordered the spicy pork (which has historically been amazing) and didn't even finish it, which is pretty weird for her lol. I tasted nothing but soy sauce and spice. I'm not sure where the aromatics went, but they need to bring them back asap. Don't order the carrot cake. It was served over coffee (yes, hot coffee) which ruined it. The cake was overly soggy and tasted of nothing but the coffee flavor. I'm sure it would have been great without it, the frosting looked great. I'll probably be back and love supporting the Fun not Fancy group in CR, but last night was a miss.
