We decided to have dinner here at the hotel based upon the fact that I had a $30 diamond credit that I needed to spend and we did not plan on having breakfast at the hotel. We came up during happy hour as we saw a sign in the elevator but Sunday is really not all that special, lol. I think my husband's beer was a dollar off and my 6 ounce glass of wine for a decoy Chardonnay was $11 so no special there. They were not any happy hour food specials on Sunday. It looks like Friday is probably the best day to be here for happy hour as all of their small specials apply on Friday. We decided to split the Korean grilled chicken sandwich, the cheese Brulé and we ordered a small bowl of tomato soup instead of having french fries. I was not a fan of the tomato soup, it is very thick, you can almost stand a spoon up in it. The Korean chicken sandwich was tasty, the bacon on it was very good! We also both enjoyed the cheese Brulé, who doesn't love a big hot bowl of steamy cheese with pita bread? the total for sharing a sandwich and an appetizer was a little over $50. I'm often suspicious of restaurants that are known for their views. The reason? It can be at the expense of the food. Such is the case here. I wanted the salmon but they confirmed it was frozen not fresh. I settled for the macaroni and cheese, a roasted cauliflower dish, and cheesecake. The mac and cheese was a bit runny with no bite of flavor to the cheese. The cauliflower dish was no more than cauliflower in a base of what seemed like Progresso soup. Rarely is cheesecake as sad as the slice I had. It was pretty but it had no richness. If I had the chance to do it over again, I'd stick with the scotch I ordered and gaze out at Mount Trashmore for a few minutes before taking the elevator back to my hotel room. read more

The food was absolutely outstanding. My Beef Short Rib was juicy and seasoned just right. The carrots were perfectly cooked with a hint of crispness. A tad pricey, but well worth it IMO. Cajun chicken was good as well. Drinks were spot on. The French 75 was strong as it should be and I had a drink special that was basically a whiskey sour with soda water. Very good indeed. My husband and I were in town for a concert and staying at the hotel with not much time to drive around to find a place to eat. We booked 350 first on open table and were seated promptly for dinner. We had some cocktails and then I switched to wine. I ordered a sauvignon blanc which was extremely astringent and tasted really cheap. . Normally I like a sauvignon blanc to go with a spicy or smoky food and I had the cajun pasta. The manager came out and could see my face when I drank the wine, and allowed me to choose another wine at no additional cost. So I switched to the Rosie, which was a lot more palatable. My pasta was fantastic! My husband had the beef short ribs and ate almost every bite. I also got a flourless chocolate torte to go to our room with raspberry sauce. The raspberry sauce was not a coulis or puree. It was more like jelly donut filling. Probably not my first choice, but I ended up liking it and eating it anyway! The view is pretty nice from the top of the hotel, and it was appreciated to have a cloth napkin experience. I wish I could remember our server's name, but she was wonderful! read more

The restaurant and bar on top of this hotel are excellent. We ate breakfast here and really enjoyed the food, great service, and views of the city. The breakfast buffet was high quality and employees were regularly keeping it stocked and clean. There was lots of fresh fruit options and the coffee was great! We arrived just before noon on Sunday Christmas Day and enjoyed their very tasty breakfast quesadilla. I especially liked the crispy thin shell. The waiter was very attentive, pleasant and took good care of us. The coffee served wasn't quite as hot as my wife prefers, but the waiter quickly fixed the problem. The restaurant area is spacious, clean and of course the view is great. We enjoyed our time and would definitely return. read more

This restaurant is located on 16th floor of Double tree by Hilton. The view was excellent from there . You can see the city from one side. Other side you have the view of Quaker oat mill with Cider River. The river was partially frozen. You can see the busy 380 in between the hotel and mill. It was almost sunset, when I arrived the dining hall. I could see the foggy city with a mystic glow form the setting sun. Darkness fell on the city as the Golden evening did not last long. I failed to see any stars but the twinkling city lights reminded me the sky of a summer night. The service was slow. The menu is relatively short. The house salad could be better with more fresh ingredients. The tomato soup was delicious. The pickle shrimp was average. The steak was great. It has a great view. Needed to improve the service. Put on your fancy pants and prepare for upper end dining in the heart of Cedar Rapids - 350 First is a solid choice if you are staying at the Double Tree or if you want a place to go to rise above it all. You won't necessarily be overwhelmed by the flavor profiles of the dishes being served, but the service is quick, friendly and engaging. The views are nice from one of the tallest buildings in town. Sit back and relax while you sip a quality crafted cocktail - the Old Fashion is superb - as they use brown sugar rather than simple syrup which really highlights the taste of the whiskey. Prices are a tad high, but then again, they probably mostly cater to business travelers or conventions. This is also a place I can see local kids bringing prom dates - LOL. We went there for an early dinner on a Sunday. The lukewarm and tasteless calamari seemed to have been reheated from the night before. I am sure that the hummus came from Costco or Sam's, it lacked the nuanced flavors and rich texture of freshly-made hummus. My date ordered a risotto which had the texture and flavor (or lack thereof) of nursing home food. Really: no teeth (or taste buds) were needed to ingest it. When we mentioned to the waitress how bland it was, she said WITH A STRAIGHT FACE that the chef did not put any salt or pepper (apparently the only two spices available in that kitchen), because he wanted customers to add their own. My chickpea filet over cauliflower was interesting, but not in a good way. I thought I was going to get a bed of riced or sautéed cauliflower. No sir/madam...no, no, no! A thick slice of uncooked plain cauliflower was the "bed" to the filet (which, in all fairness, was not bad). This dish was swimming in an unremarkable sauce. On a bright note, the gin and tonics were great (you can't go wrong with Hendrick's) and the service was attentive but not hovering or over-the-top friendly, as it can be in Iowa. The view is mildly depressing, but it's not their fault that the Quaker Oats factory and the Cedar Rapids "skyline" are not aesthetically pleasing in broad daylight. I ate breakfast at the Hilton Double Tree's restaurant, 350 First. It is a great view of the city from the 16th floor even though Cedar Rapids isn't going to make any postcards soon of the view. The staff is very polite and prompt. The steak was very juicy and prepared correctly per my request. The eggs were good and the breakfast potatoes had a good flavor and texture. Table and silverware was clean, the staff was friendly. But those were the only positives of our dinner. The food was not good. I ordered the Caesar salad with herbed chicken. Perhaps I should have read more closely, but for $18, my salad was a total disappointment. Quality tomatoes should be easy to find in September. The dressing was comparable to a bottle of Kraft. Not a single crouton was on the plate, and the chicken equaled about 1/4 of a breast- part of which was cooked to a hardness that I couldn't cut through. "Herbed" apparently means no salt or pepper. Mine was unseasoned except for one bite that tasted a little of lemon and some kind of herb. My husband had a very dark brown chicken sandwich. I was also disappointed in the cheese brûlée, if it had more of the vegetables it would have been special. As it was, it reminded me of an ok cheese dip that you wouldn't go back to at a party. The menu only had 4 hot entrees that weren't sandwiches. None of them sounded like they could be worth the price. I didn't feel comfortable eating a burger in dress clothes, so the whole experience seemed to be a ridiculous waste. Service was friendly, but ordering, getting food, and getting the check was really slow. No one checked on us for drink refills and the server never came back to get our payment, the hostess finally grabbed it after passing through twice. read more

Had a really nice time tonight. Everybody in the restaurant was super friendly and eager to please. Great menu. Sandwiches, burgers, salads, or entrees. I had boneless short ribs, asparagus, and orzo with mushrooms. It was all delicious! Not stuffy, but comfortable with great views of the city. Have been here a few times and am always especially happy with the friendliness of the help. Have to admit, the valet parkers were a little cranky tonight though. Bad first impression. The $10 lunch deal is really pretty amazing. My salad was large and my steak was cooked perfectly at med-rare. The large windows were great to help keep my children entertained as they watched the railcars get shunted around the Quaker Oats facility. I would absolutely stop in again for the food. Service was average at best. My take in the entire hotel/ restaurant facility is that there are a lot of inexperienced college kids working there who do not really understand true customer service yet, but have been told what they need to do. read more

I live and work in Downtown Cedar Rapids, and I frequent 350 First. If you just want to grab a drink there, the cocktails are amazing; they're a little pricey, but well worth it if you want to treat yourself. Plus, you can't beat the relaxing environment and the beautiful views! I recently went to 350 First over my lunch hour, and I was pleasantly surprised! First of all, they have a great lunch menu, and many options are just $10 (including tax and a drink!). I ordered the crab cake sandwich with a house salad and they were very satisfying. The portion size and the quality of the meal was incredible considering the low price. The service at this restaurant has always been excellent, and I've never tried something there that I haven't enjoyed a great deal. It's a must-try for people saying at the hotel and for Cedar Rapids residents who want a more upscale dining experience. read more

350 First is a nice option for Cedar Rapids. While it does not fit the mold of a successful restaurant for Cedar Rapids, it will stay afloat due to the business traveler. Prices are slightly higher than area steakhouses and it makes sense. When you are whipping out your corporate credit card to cover a nice lunch or dinner, you're willing to pay a slightly higher price. A nice view of downtown Cedar Rapids makes this a romantic spot for couples and the ambiance is modern/chic. Service is standard, nothing over the top. The dishes were created with care and the presentation was on point. Everything was seasoned and cooked correctly, with the steaks stealing the show. Menu offerings are limited, but it seems like they focus on doing just a few things well and it pays off. This is a spot worth trying for a date, client dinner, or special occasion. The small plate item with what seemed like a flatbread with goat cheese, spring mix, thinly sliced red bell pepper and balsamic drizzle is amazing. Server did take an easy 5 minutes to greet us. We waited at the front, I even used the restroom and came back and no one had been at the hostess station, bar or walking through the house yet. The meals at our table and another one got switched around but server had new ones made before we even had to ask. I'm not sure why other reviews are stating pricing issues. If a guest is to expect a delicious meal then it will be made with higher quality ingredients and be priced accordingly. If this isn't your genre then go to Applebee's and pay $2 less. We went for lunch today and our meals were only $11 with sandwich and side that were more than ample portion size. I'll pay an extra $2 for a unique meal, excellent flavor and better quality, which is half of the cost of a Starbucks that is so quickly gulped down between meals during the day. DO NOT EAT HERE! My girlfriend and I ate at 350 First for her birthday. Our experience was so bad it inspired me to write my first ever review. First, the food. I order a ribeye that had the quality of something you'd get at Outback, only this one cost $36. It was undercooked, bland and had large swath of connective tissue running through the middle of it. I couldn't finish a third of it because of it. My girlfriend had a similar problem with her strip steak. Next, the service. We arrived at the restaurant around 8 PM and the place was nearly empty, so by about half through our meal we were the last table our server had. Coupled with her prickly demeanor, she ignored us throughout most of the meal, coming over only once after we received our food. This was especially frustrating because I had wanted to order another glass of wine. Silly me for wanting to spend more money at the restaurant. Overall we were extremely disappointed with our experience. I don't mind spending on a meal, but when I'm done eating I at least like to feel like I wasn't ripped off. Had a few excellent meals here while staying at the DoubleTree. The menu was great (better IMO than the average DT/Hilton) and I especially enjoyed the Pan Seared U-10 Scallops with Roasted Red Pepper Polenta Cake, Braised Spinach and Citrus Buerre Blanc. They were exceptional for anywhere this far from a coast; especially a hotel restaurant. The drinks were well mixed, crab cakes excellent and the service was above average. We had not been to 350 for over a year but decided it would be a pretty venue for a dinner celebration. The food was not terrible but the service certainly was the worst I had ever experienced. We started off with the wrong drinks. When we asked for some time to look over the menu, she disappeared, and I mean disappeared. We finally tracked her down and ordered. Her description of the food my wife ordered was terrible; clearly she had never seen the dish. The another server brought our salad; two minutes later our entree appeared with her comment: "I hope this is not too soon." We had to get the bartender to find her so we could pay and exit. Visited for lunch during Cedar Rapids Restaurant Week. I tried the braised short rib sandwich and 350 salad. The short rib on my sandwich was very good...juicy, tender, flavorful. The only issue was that the horseradish aioli was in one glob in the center allowing the rest of the sandwich to be unsauced and dry. Attention to detail would have fixed that. My party and I waited awhile for our food, but it was prime lunch hours so I won't hold that against them. Service was otherwise attentive and friendly. One friend advised management that her fries were severely overcooked...she didn't want a replacement due to timing but the manager brought over free DoubleTree cookies as a consolation. I wish I could give 2.5 stars because the location and atmosphere of 350 First is very nice. I was here for dinner, so my review is limited to the menu and service available after 5:30 p.m. There was so much about the dining experience that was just BAD. Here is a quick breakdown: The good: the ambiance, location and decor are cool, not stuffy or pretentious but classy. Dress up, but leave the t-shirt at home for dinner. The restaurant has great views of the city below. The drink selection is fine - adequate for a restaurant in this price range. The bad: the food and the service. I had appetizers - nothing spectacular, an entree and side salad and dessert.First, the menu is very antiquated and boring. The prices reflect a dinner service that should include high quality produce, meat and show finesse in cooking technique. The dinner I had did none of these. I ordered the mac & cheese with rib bits. The macaroni was very soggy and there were only a few small piece of meat slopped on top, the whole thing looked like dog food. The salad was the weirdest salad I have ever had at a nice restaurant. The greens were limp and old (brown spots, wilted). The pea pods were frozen and then reheated...who does that in fine dining?! Our server did not seem to know anything about any of the menu items including food and wine. It felt as though we always had to request more water, another drink etc. The ugly: for the price, it is just not worth it. I've had better quality food and better service in Cedar Rapids. Just because the location is good, doesn't mean you can skimp on all the other things that make a restaurant great. Maybe my experience was not the usual, but I will not be back anytime soon to find out. If you are traveling and staying at the Doubletree it may be convenient, however there are many more places within walking distance that could offer more bang for your buck. read more

We had not been to 350 since before the COVID, but wanted to celebrate an Anniversary at one of our favorite high end restaurants. The waitress must have been relatively new as we had to ask for table service. She took my wife's order but neglected to ask for my order. When presenting our steaks, the sharp steak knife was on the plate pointing directly at us instead of away from our bodies. In anticipation we were eager to enjoy our dinner. My green beans were cold, the mushrooms were luke warm, the steak was cooked as requested but hardly warm. But, at least, the roasted potatoes were warm. Needless to say we did not finish the meal. The manager appeared and initially offered a 20% discount, but after listening to our dissatisfaction , changed the discount to 50%. Of course he apologized several times. I've been to this restaurant several times but this was my first check in. Generally we go for the amazing view of Cedar Rapids that the restaurant offers because the food usually lacks flavor or appropriate cook. However this trip we were there to celebrate my husband's birthday and we were very impressed by the change. We started with the Parmesan crusted calamari, it was surprisingly tender with a great cheesy flavor. My husband and I both ordered steak and mac with 5 cheeses. We don't generally do this as we like to try each other's food but clearly neither of us were paying attention. We ordered steaks medium rare and they were cooked to perfection!! The mac and cheese was the right portion size with a yummy, creamy cheesiness. So good! I ordered the six layer carrot cake for dessert because why not? It was so moist and delicious, I wished I could've eaten it all but six layers for one person is just ridiculous! This meal was a success however I send a word of warning, this was the exception not the rule for us. Normally the only thing we can count on being good is the bottle of wine. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come. I would recommend going at least once for the view alone it's gorgeous, I recommend going just before sunset. read more
