I wasn't sure how to rate this place. I'd eaten here before when I was attending a convention at the hotel. However my experience there last night was much different. I went with my parents before we went to a concert at the US Cellular Center. We were eating at the bar due to them being booked with reservations (which is totally fine, we didn't mind it). About halfway through our dinner there was a lightning strike that shut down their ordering system/registers. The two bartenders were calm & trying to figure out what to do next. They handled it professionally. Then a server had come behind the bar to talk to the bartenders & had a freak out in front of customers. She stood there talking about who I assume was her boss saying he said "to figure it out" with drink prices. She had a raised voice & other customers were taking notice to her performance. I recently had something similar happen at my job, where we had a system outage, so I have some understanding, & while it's frustrating, handle. It. Like. A. Professional. The two bartenders were great examples of that, & the server should've taken note. At one point during her speel I heard her say "I've been here for six years!!!" Well, she sure didn't act like it. Other than that girl ruining the experience, we had great service & the food was amazing. Since the system was down, they were unable to ring people up. My father offered to pay our estimated ticket amount, but the bartender was adamant on saying not to worry about it. My father left him a tip & we left. I still intend to eat here again, but I would say they need to have a chat with their staff on how to act in front of customers, even when a freak accident happens. read more

Lunch option is wonderful: more than a dozen main items WITH side, WITH beverage, including tax $10. Full meal TOTAL = $10. I had a Cuban sandwich and my friend had a pastrami Reuben. A bit pricey, but it is good food. I haven't been disappointed with anything, but occasionally thrilled... A great place to come at night by the windows, and just for desserts and coffee/cordials is wonderful. The crème brulé is amazing. Great service, pleasant atmosphere, and usually don't need reservations. Oh, they valet park for free if you eat there. I had no idea! They will bring your car to the door when you are ready to leave. Great for winter months. read more

Like the previous reviewer we visited 350 First during restaurant week. At $25 the 4course meal was exceptional. The regular dinner prices looked to be in the mid to high 20's with ala carte prices for the rest of the courses. The view was wonderful though the view of PepsiCo was less wonderful. Service was attentive even though there were less servers than they needed. We would definitely go again for a special occasion but it's too pricey for us to dine there regularly. Leave plenty of time for this leisurely dining experience if you are heading to the theater after dinner. Excellent food with lovely views and very good service. I give it just 4 stars because of the regular dining prices. read more

This is my go to restaurant for lunch or dinner. Food is perfect everytime. Staff are always nice. The veiw is perfect.

View is great, however the food is pricey for what you get. It has an amazing location, but 3 star food priced at 5 star $ amount

I sat at the bar for 10 minutes before being acknowledged. There were no servers/bartenders for the first 6 minutes, then 3 magically appeared , all looked at me and failed to ask if they could help me. Wouldn't recommend based on service alone. 10. Minutes....Unacceptable. read more

The bar prices are ridiculous - even for a hotel bar. A glass of wine was $18 the first time. When someone else in our party ordered a glass of wine it was $20 for the same wine. Two drinks - a mixed drink and a glass of wine - cost $38. It took forever to get our drinks. There were 2-3 people behind the bar and only a few people in the restaurant or bar. They served and charged two people from the party separately, while we waited for them to make our second two drinks and it made us late for our reservation elsewhere. Went back here, really should know better but I like to stay in the hotel and its convenient. Service is still terribly slow both for dinner and breakfast service. This time the food wasn't even very good. I ordered the short ribs and what was on the plate definitely wasn't. I double checked my order with the waitress and she told me they ARE short ribs, they are boneless. Boneless short ribs do not look like brisket and taste like brisket, they are supposed to be fatty and melt in your mouth- these were long, flat, lean, and super dry BTW. I told her they definitely were not short ribs and her response was that's what the chef calls them (SMH). This was served BBQ style and I didn't realize that meant it would be covered in a super sugary BBQ sauce. It tasted awful. I don't understand how the chef or the waitress or whoever thinks you can call something a short rib when it so very clearly isn't. Even if I stay at the hotel again, I definitely will NOT be coming back for a terrible, overpriced dinner. read more

This was probably one of the worst burgers that I have eaten in a while. I specifically ordered the burger medium well. When I received the burger it resembled a piece of charcoal. The disconnect between the room service menu and the restaurant menu is incredible. Room service menu calls it the "DT burger" restaurant calls it the 350 first burger. I call it the burnt burger. I was looking forward to the steak fries but they didn't have those. I could have gone to Burger King and gotten a way better burger and still kept an extra 15 bucks in my pocket. Maybe the cook wanted to make sure my burger was still hot when it took that long slow ride to my room. Guess what!? It worked. Thanks a lot buddy. Please take some pride in your work. The view is absolutely amazing and it is so fancy! The food was served fairly quickly and we got free cheese rolls before our meal! I wasn't all that fond of the selection though. Let me start off by saying that there were about five tables seated while we were there, and I saw 4 different waitresses. Basically, the place was dead. We didn't receive any of the pre-meal bread until an hour after we had ordered our entrees, and our food didn't come out for an hour and a half. We hardly saw our waitress, and when she did show up, she didn't smile once. There are two stars because the food was actually really good, however it shouldn't have taken an hour and a half to make two salads and three burgers. read more

Service has seen a marked decline since opening. There have been menu changes that have not been updated to their website or to OpenTable, despite our server mentioning these changes were not incredibly recent. While the restaurant wants to be prime in location and price, dressing anything above casual will leave you feeling conspicuous as hotel guests arrive in shorts and flip-flops, even for evening meals. Combine this with the fact that merely getting to the restaurant is a chore thanks to the need to either Park in a parking garage (and navigate the Skywalk plus hotel lobby) or make use of the hotel valet which during events has a rate of $20 (seriously? This is Cedar Rapids, not downtown LA) and it becomes readily apparent that 350 First is just not worth the hassle. This is depressing in that when they first opened they showed promise but over time that has merely transformed into complacency. Instead of striving to provide an upscale dining experience, 350 First merely charges upscale rates while relying on location and a dearth of local competition to gloss over their underwhelming performance. TL:DR It's truly sad to say but 350 First has merely become another overpriced hotel restaurant that over-promises and under delivers. read more

The new Double Tree Inn by Hilton has just opened after extensive renovation. The new restaurant, 350 First is on the top or 16th floor. The new renovation is well done and appears upscale. Here are the problems I see that going forward that will cause the restaurant, but not the hotel to fail. 1. Street parking is virtually non existent. 2. Current parking ramp requires a walk of two city blocks plus two elevators and one escalator and a walk through the hotel lobby to get to the restaurant. 3. If there is an event at the Cellular Center you may walk from the ramp to the hotel but after your meal at the restaurant you may not retrieve your car unless you walk outside the hotel, go down the street one block, cross the rail tracks to enter the parking ramp and then take an elevator to get to your car. Not convenient nor weather friendly. 4. Menu prices are expensive (OK if food and service justify). Food was good but priced high for what it was. Service is over attentive and quickly became a nuisance. Twice asked to clear plates when we clearly were still dinning. Came to pick up bill before either of us had looked at totals or withdrawn credit cards. Three minutes from presenting to retrieving, really? Sorry but all four of us agreed that the difficulty and time to get to the top, followed by the rest of the experience is not worth a return visit. read more

During 'CR Restaurant Week' I visited 350 First. The menu the chef prepared was phenomenal. The braized short rib was cooked to perfection. There was no need for a knife as it was so tender it would just fall apart. The lamb prepared with kofta, pasta pearl and cashew cream was extremely flavorful. The staff was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. The views of downtown Cedar Rapids were breathtaking. It's nice to find this upscale dining experience in Cedar Rapids. read more

The service was very good. However....the food....sub par.....I ordered the caprese salad which is tomato slices with mozzarella on top. The tomatoes were NOT RIPE.....I mean, they were opaque, a light yellow color (they were obviously supposed to be red tomatoes). I've bought MUCH better quality, riper, more flavorful tomatoes at Hyvee and Fareway all summer long. How hard is it, especially in August, for goodness sake, to get ripe tomatoes! I took about 2 bites of the salad, which was about $10, and didn't eat any more. I find it a sad thing, like the chef is not on top of it. It's the chef's responsibility to be looking in on his staff, including the people that go out daily and order his/her ingredients, to make sure the food is top quality. Definitely not worth $10 to get unripe tomatoes. It was like eating cardboard. read more

This restaurant is on the top floor of the largest hotel in downtown. I have been here several times with friends and the food is uniformly good to excellent. The views of town from the wall of windows next to the booths are interesting, if not necessarily beautiful. Prices are reasonable for a mainline hotel penthouse venue. read more

In early August I was the proverbial business traveller to Cedar Rapids for a couple of nights and a guest at the DoubleTree. I had breakfast at 350 First one morning and it was all perfectly acceptable. I had none of the service issues another breakfast guest mentioned below, as I was quickly greeted, seated, and a server, Hannah, came to take a drink order as I indicated I was interested in the buffet breakfast. My coffee and water were on the table waiting for me when I returned from the buffet (including a small thermos with coffee, a nice touch instead of waiting for refills), and Hannah warmly checked in on me a couple of times during breakfast. The buffet selection met all reasonable expectations (fruit, cerreal, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, pancakes, bread for toasting and pastries) but nothing about it seemed extra. The presentation was nicer than a Hampton Inn though the food and selection wasn't terribly different. The restaurant sits on the 16th floor, and was redone I imagine with the hotel renovation in 2013, so it's clean and simple, but like the buffet, there's not a lot of character to the space as I suppose they tried to feature the view. The price was reasonable but not cheap, I think $18-19 for breakfast including tax and tip. Bottom line: if you are staying at the Doubletree and looking for the easy breakfast option, ride the elevator and you will be satisfied if not moved. On my second morning in Cedar Rapids I went to explore other local options. read more

The food and service at 350 First are fantastic. While the prices may be a little higher than others, I genuinely believe that you get what you pay for. Shortly after taking our order for two filet mignons, the waitress came back and was very apologetic, telling us that the Chef was not satisfied with our steaks and wanted to start over. We assured her that we'd prefer that the Chef be pleased and that a few more minutes didn't matter. To accommodate our extra waiting, the waitress and the restaurant manager brought us each an extra glass of wine and a platter of tomato wedges and mozzarella cheese chunks sprinkled with herbs. In addition, the restaurant manager gave us a parking pass. The filet mignons had amazing flavor and were cooked perfectly. The accompanying sautéed mushrooms were probably the best I've ever eaten. The roasted garlic mashed potatoes and the broccolini were also wonderful. If we're ever back in Cedar Rapids, 350 First will be a must-go for dinner. read more

I love going downtown. I love the décor & ambiance there. I love getting good service but here, the waitresses ignored us. I joined a couple for drinks @ 5:30pm; waited 20 min for a waitress to take my order. I asked for a specific red wine and was told they didn't have. No wine list given. I told the waitress that my husband would be joining me and that we were on separate checks from our friends. My husband arrived @ 6:20pm, ordered a drink and we didn't see waitress again to order food before the performance @ the Paramount. We flagged down our waitress @ 7 and asked for the check & she put it all on ONE instead of the requested separate checks. I explained to her that my husband & I both had wanted to order food but that she neglected us and she shrugged her shoulders and appeared as though she did not care and didn't offer an apology. I would have to recommend elsewhere if you wanted to eat prior to the theater or Paramount. read more

Very disappointed with the Thanksgiving buffet. After several attempts to find out about the buffet, reservations were made far in advance. We were contacted the night before to confirm our reservation. We arrived on time only to find out that they were not ready for us, so our group of 30 plus was directed to the bar. There was no one in the bar to serve us but finally a staff member arrived. After a pricey bar tab, and a 45 minute wait, we were finally seated. The room was set up very nicely and the waiting staff was friendly and courteous, however, we were quite disappointed with our Thanksgiving menu. We realize that the Chef and his staff wants to be creative with the menu but Thanksgiving is not the time to deviate from tradition. Besides no traditional Thanksgiving fare, food was warm at best. My family has stayed at the Doubletree the last three years renting at least nine rooms amongst them. It has been very convenient to stay in house for our Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately we will be eating at a different restaurant next year. This was our third Thanksgiving at the Doubletree and the previous years were much better. read more
