We parked in a large federal building parking lot that lies between the two, so it was convenient for both. We snagged a hightop table in the bar area and got in our drink orders. I ordered a Margarita. It was excellent! Great taste and nice presentation. My wife gota a glass of wine from their decent wine list, and my brother got a very reasonably priced 7-7. Drinks were great and our food came out quickly. I got the Montreal Beef Sandwich. Tasty brisket with a great combination of flavors. Fries were good. My wife got the Salmon BLT, which was also very good, with great bacon and a nice slab of fish. She got the upcharged Brussels Sprouts for her side and they were also tasty. My brother got the Arnold Palmer Chicken Sandwich, a tea-soaked sandwich that he enjoyed. He got the house chips, and they were also good. I was excited to try out Crosby's for a Sunday brunch. I ordered the Coffee Cured Salmon Benedict. My friends ordered the Classic Benedict, Coffee Cured Lox Bagel, and the Chicken Duo with Bacon and Apple. The salmon was good on my egg Benedict, but the hollandaise sauce was clumpy and it was overall underwhelming. The bite I had of my friend's lox bagel tasted pretty good. I ordered the Chocolate Chip Banana Brioche Bread Pudding for dessert and my friend order the beignets. I thought the chocolate chip and chocolate sauce overpowered the bread pudding. I would have preferred less chocolate sauce and more cream sauce to balance out the chocolate chips. However, if you are a chocolate lover and you can enjoy it with a large glass of milk it may be right up your alley. The beignet were disappointing compared to those in New Orleans. The beignet's exterior was harder than normal and they weren't as fluffy. The service was overall good, however I wish the waitress would have asked if I would like a refill, versus me flagging her down 10 minutes after my glass was empty especially since the soda/tea glasses are about half the size of other restaurants. read more

We took our niece out and she picked this place. It was a good choice. We were asked if we wanted to eat inside or outside. I think the only outside tables were out front and totally in the sun. Glad we ate inside. I'm not sure what the decorating vibe is. The carpet was a giraffe print and the wallpaper looked like the Matrix. There were some vintage looking French prints on the wall. Regardless, the service and food was good. We tried the cheese curds (kind of pedestrian), the Brussels sprouts (huge and delicious), the smashburgers (doubles and stacked high), the waffle fries (perfectly fried), and a salad. Let me tell you about that salad. It had sliced strawberries, picked shaved rhubarb, dried apricots cherry tomatoes and burrata on top of a lettuce mix. Luckily, our server questioned whether or not the dressing had been tossed with the salad (new person in the kitchen, she said) so she brought me the strawberry vinaigrette on the side. This cute little restaurant is located in the Newbo area. When had brunch and all 4 of us loved our selections. I had the biscuits and gravy with eggs scrambled very, very dry and hash browns and all of it was perfectly cooked and so tasty. My partner had the Philly steak omelet and he loved it. C The service was perfect and the seating was comfortable. Parking there is a small lot in the back and ample street parking. A colleague and I tried Crosby's on a recent business trip to Cedar Rapids and enjoyed our experience. It's ambience is of a slightly upscale bar and grill, think those big name chains with commercials. There's a nice bar area divided fromthe dining room by a half wall. The dining room probably seats 50 to 60. Their menu is new American, but with some twists there, BLT has pickles and the chicken sandwich has been brined in sweet tea. They also have some unusual salad dressings such as strawberry vanilla vinaigrette. I opted for the summer cob salad and added chicken. The price for the salad is a little on the high side , but it was a large portion that I couldn't finish. I didn't take a look at the drink menu, but I did enjoy iced tea, which comes with several flavor options. Service was solid. Our server took care of us, offered suggestions on the menu and was very attentive. Also, when we lingered at the end of the meal, she didn't rush us out, but made sure we had what we needed. read more

I have eaten here at least once a week since I moved to Cedar Rapids. I have only gotten food to go but it has been excellent every time. We wanted to try a new restaurant for restaurant week, and the champagne risotto salmon caught my eye. Well, it was amazing! I'm just sad this is a short time special. Hopefully, they add it to the regular menu! My boyfriend ordered the blackened salmon, and we split the cajun shrimp app. They were both tasty as well. My husband and I were on vacation for the weekend in Cedar Rapids, and had some time before our Sunday flight. So we took advice from Yelp and went to Crosby's for brunch. We were seated immediately at 11:00 a.m. at a high top table in the bar area. The chairs were hard to sit in. Kind of kept sliding out. I have the stuffed french toast which was delicious, with some sausage on the side which was also great. Husband had a BLT which was made with spicy jalapeno aioli instead of mayonnaise, to his surprise. The food was fine he said. For the most popular brunch place in a small town, we did pretty well to get in and out within an hour, and the service was pretty good, though my water could have been refilled a little sooner. One of the worst restaurant experiences while on vacation with my family the items that we try to order off the menu they ran out of avocado, toast, and sausage and the course it didn't tell us that they ran out of avocado into after we placed our order so my family didn't have a choice, but to change their item because they didn't have product to fulfill their menu and also I need to speak to a manager. They said there was no manager on duty. Staff proceeded to tell me that they will take my phone number and name and the manager will give me a call that day. It's now the next day. It have been to this place twice now once for dinner and again for breakfast. I enjoyed both meals as did the company I was with. There is a good variety of choices for both meals and a good selection of drinks to choose from including mimosa flights for the brunch. The regular eggs Benedict was good, no complaints but I have had better, it think the hollandaise sauce that was not very lemony. The bloody Mary's were going, not too spicy. There was only one server for breakfast but as it rolled around to noon a second staff member showed up. The kitchen did have a mixup on a couple of the breakfast Chimmi's that we ordered but the correction was handled quickly and to everyone's satisfaction. I tried out Crosby's on a Tuesday night during spring break, and I had the establishment practically to myself. I said at the bar and had a great conversation with Jacob the bartender. Given the late time on a weekday, that one other person came in and gave me a great opportunity to connect with Jacob and learn more about the state of Iowa. He was very personable, and a great person. Really highlighted the experience here for myself. As for the food, I went with the Stuffed Walleye. I had never tried walleye before, so I was pretty excited to try it out. It was a pretty fair piece of fish and tasted great. Even better than the fish was the mac & cheese. So creamy and cheesy, the perfect consistency. I decided on this place, because of the 4.5 rating, but now I'm not sure how it's not even higher. Great experience here! read more

Wow! This new chef should be nominated for a James Beard award! Michelin star quality food where you least expect it! The burrata appetizer set the stage for a spectacular meal to come with the suprise addition of pistachio nuts. The Brussel sprouts were the best we have ever had and we order them everywhere. The hoisin mustard glaze was the perfect blend of sweet yet with a little extra touch of flavor. They were cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and a tender inside. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better the chicken pot pie arrived. Please don't let the name fool you. Shredded chicken with peas and carrots all combined in a rich havarti cheese sauce with fresh herbs and presented in a thin pastry crust. This dish really needs a more fitting name because too many people will overlook how incredibly flavorful and unique it is. My wife and I both had rye old fashioneds to start our evening and they were spot on. Our server was very informative, friendly, and efficient. Don't let the casual atmosphere trick you into thinking this place is about bar food! We hope to have the opportunity to savor more of their creations if our travels bring us back to Cedar Rapids. read more

Since I like to try new places, this was on my list. The venue is nice, not real big, but plenty of space and comfortably decorated. I has called for reservations and the host on the phone was very friendly and accommodating and was the sane when we walked in the door. Our waiter was also super friendly and helpful even though he had quite a few tables to attend to. We started with drinks and appetizers. While the old-fashion I has one not on my top 10 list, it was still good. The baked brie was amazing. Served with toast that was made from a heartier bread, sliced granny Smith apples, and a caramelized onion marmalade. I'm not usually a big fan of onions, but these were a perfect compliment to the dish and I actually really liked them. We also had the crab cakes which were made with lump crab meat and you could actually tell there was crab in there and not just fillers to make the cake. They came with a delicious sauce that we got more of because it was so good. I got the prosciutto melt. It was very good with the added tomato on it giving it a great balance of savory and sweet/acidic. I got the rice pilaf as a side. It was ok, but not anything special. Others in my party got a burger which they said was good, and thevfish and chops special which had a very nice sized and good quality piece of fish. The only real suggestion we had was that when the burger came there was no type of dip included, but the waiter happily got somecranch for them. We shared a piece of margarita cheese cake which was good, but basically just cheesecake with strawberries on type and a slice of lime on the side. I had hoped for a little more flavor in the cheesecake itself, but it was good. Definitely going back to explore the menu more! read more

First time checking out Crosby's and came for brunch. There are not a lot of places that i truly have a hard time picking what I want off the menu. So many great options! I had the biscuits and gravy and my friend had the mixed eggs Benedict. I really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy - good seasoning and big pieces of sausage. My only complaint is that the biscuits were a little tough. I think they might have been baked a touch too long. My friend said the eggs Benedict were great. Let me start by saying I am from out of town, specifically from a foodie city. Cedar Rapids does not seem to be the place for good food. We came in for an early dinner and the place was empty. Great. It was also very dirty. There were a lot of people working but no one cleaning. Dirty tables, dirty chairs, dirty booths. When they finally did clean, the rags they were using were filthy. Cocktails, not good. Couldn't even finish the two I ordered. Food was pretty decent. Not exceptional. Service is what you were except from a sports bar. read more

I put our menus on a separate table after we ordered, confused the heck out of another server! The appetizer plates stayed on the table until we finished the rest of our food. We were never asked about refills on drinks, though we did get water replenished with some consistency. We decided not to order a desert given the delay in food and drinks arriving. For additional context, one drink was a beer on tap and the other just a can of root beer and glass of ice. There didn't seem to be any reason for it to take 10-15 minutes for us to get these drinks. Really sad. I don't like writing reviews like this but it really upset me given the place was hardly filled with people. It did fill up of course but not till 30 minutes later, which was about when we got our order taken (that was a joke, but not entirely false either) If you want to take a chance and got the time, you may have a more enjoyable experience. read more

Returned to Crosbys for lunch after reading it was under new management/different chef. I ordered my "usual" salmon BLT with a side order of garlic thyme mushrooms. The salmon BLT was served on a homemade focaccia bread. The salmon was a generous portion & nicely cooked....all was good with the sandwich except for their homemade focaccia bread. The bread was thin & dry and fell apart when trying to pick up the sandwich to eat. Had to eat it with a fork. My side of mushrooms were ok....needed salt and less oil. The same problem happened with 2 others in my party who ordered the steak sandwich (served on the same bread). In addition, the steak was dry and over cooked. On the plus side, the waffle fries were very good, as were the mustard/hoisin Brussel sprouts. We shared an order of the chocolate lava cake and that was very good. It was served warm....Delish! Service was good; our waitress was attentive and friendly. I would still return to Crosbys, but would avoid anything served with their focaccia bread and the steak sandwich. read more

My prime rib was cooked exactly as requested and delicious, complemented by the au jus and horse radish. I don't eat brussel sprouts so I ordered the house salad instead. I love blue cheese dressing and theirs was excellent! The menu had items on it I've never seen before in CR, with a much bigger city feel to it. The brunch menu had many intriguing dishes, and I plan to go back for that, plus to try some interesting morning adult drinks as well. The atmosphere was a unique blend of casual and elegant - dress up for a date or take a break during a bike ride, either way, you'd feel comfortable. Definitely our last time at this place. My kids love a good ahi tuna poke bowl so I asked the waitress about it. The price on the menu for the appetizer poke bowl was $14.50. We decided that each of us would order one as we weren't all that hungry and we specifically asked about the appetizer poke bowl. When it came, it wasn't a bowl but small pieces of tuna wrapped with one lettuce leaf, some mediocre sauce, and shaved carrot. Nothing like what was described on the menu, including no rice. Here's the kicker....when we got the check, we were charged $20 for each of these small mediocre tasting appetizers which were clearly not what was represented on the menu. The price on the menu was $14.50. I questioned the waitress about it and she disappeared for awhile and came back and said there was nothing she can do as the manager said there was a lot of tuna used to make them. The manager wouldn't even come talk to us! What a joke! So it was $60 for three small appetizers which turned out to not be what we ordered. Basically fraud! read more

Pretty underwhelming, which was too bad because we went out of our way to go here. First of all, if you're going to offer Bloody Mary's, please, for the love of all that is holy, at least have tomato juice in the place to make a proper drink, or rescue a dark brown version of this failed Bloody Mary. Seriously, a Bloody Mary should never look like you just emptied a black RV tank. Not sure why some places are solely relying on pre mixed bottle scum, but it truly kills what the drink should be. Bless their hearts. Also, If you're scrolling pics & think a lot of the fare looks good, don't expect to find those items on the menu when you get there. If your server takes your order, serves a bizarre salty version of a drink, then bails- just go to the bar if you need a water refill. We were 50/50 on this place vs another & chose this one. We were in town for a graduation party and found this place on the way out of town. Sat on the patio and had an absolutely wonderful meal. Service was impeccable and the food and drinks were great. The chimichanga is memorable. Deep fried to a golden brown. So good. Highly recommend this place for brunch! read more

Oh my goodness Crosby's was soo good! Cute/ comfy atmosphere, great service, and delicious food! Tried to cocktails tonight - the Crosby mojito and the French 75 - mojito was my fave (light refreshing, with tropical feel with the Malibu twist), but the French 75 was also great. Food was also wonderful - I had the chicken bahn mi which was huge - enough for leftovers! My husband had the Baja burger which he loved! Waffle fries were on pint - crispy and flAvorful, no need for ketchup! Wish we had room for dessert as their homemade ice cream sounded amazing! read more
