Haven't had the pleasure to eat at Parlor City for a couple years. Greatly enjoyed a Cajun grilled chicken sandwich and a "real" Rueben sandwich. The Frips with dip came out hot and tasty. Yummy Service was great. Only negative was some confusion with beer menu and taps not being aligned. Greatly enjoyed and will be back soon. read more

A group of us came here for lunch during the week. The decor was great and service was top notch. The biggest issue I found was most of the wings had broken bones. Other than that everything else was great. Overall this place has a huge menu and I'll comeback to try something different next time. read more

Our server was good. We had a cousins' dinner at Palor City last Friday night (5/16/25), 5 of us. I'm done dining at Palor City. It's gone so far downhill from even a couple of years ago. There too many Cedar Rapids restaurants that actually care about their customers' experience. Palor City relying on its previous reputation & that no longer exists. It's a Friday night. How can this restaurant be out of corned beef when 2 or 3 of the menu items use corned beef? Geesh! Go buy some corned beef at Fareway or HyVee, for goodness sake. Plus the kitchen could not make a salad that didn't have onion (one person had an allergy) . Apparently salads are partially pre-made. SMH. read more

Good food. Nice atmosphere. But, the worst waitress I've seen in a long time. Impatient, rude, short with customers. Not friendly at all. Really cute place in an old brick building. Started with the "Frips" appetizer. This was their homemade chips with two flavors of homemade dips. Yum! For dinner I had the sweet turkey grilled cheese sandwich with fries. Both were very good. The other people in my party tried the quesadilla and the bbq chicken pizza. We were all very satisfied. Good portion sizes, and very impressed with all the homemade dips--honey mustard, blueberry ranch, French onion, etc. our waitress seemed to be running the show--had all the tables and the bar. It's been a couple years since we ate here. Burgers and Fripps were always our favorites. We had 5 in our group tonight. Two of us ordered the Juicy Lucy. There was no cheese on the inside of the burger and they were luke warm. They were just regular cheese burgers. Fripps were hit and miss - some were crisp but most were soggy and barely warm - made it hard to dip them!! The worst of the night was my son's chicken sandwich. As a gluten free person I'd say easily the best thing here is their pulled pork sandwiches, but there pizzas and other sandwiches are also delicious. I'd skip on their salads and lighters options here, just because they're not as good as the rest of the food and the rest of the food is great. Decided to check out Parlor City after walking by it many times when I'm up at Newbo. The place is very large with a big outdoor patio and multiple rooms to sit in (or the bar). I was happy to have the option to sit outside. The menu is extensive, so there is a good chance you can find something you'll like. I opted for the guac chicken sandwich and it was pretty good. I thought the chicken was cooked really well (not too dry), but the flavor in general was a little bland. I'm guessing the guacamole needed something. The flight we got was great and I would recommend getting one as each sample is 7oz. Our waitress was good, but very busy; I couldn't get a refill on my water until we got our check and we didn't see her as much as I would have preferred. Parlor City Pub is a nice place to sit and enjoy your food. It is family friendly and would accommodate a large party well. However, for a more unique and flavorful experience, I would probably recommend going across the street to Newbo. read more

Stopped by during the New Bo "Arts Fest". Very busy area yet we were seated promptly. Excellent selection of beers on tap and a varied menu. I had the breaded boneless pork tenderloin- a favorite sandwich of mine. Our food was served promptly. The BPT was hot, crisp and served on a toasted brioche bun. The pickles and onion were fresh and delicious. The tenderloin should have been pulled from the fryer about 2 minutes earlier - it was a tad over-done. But, the batter-dipped onion rings were delicious. The wait staff were all pleasant. But, the staff were vocal behind the bar complaining that their checks weren't ready and that they'd all had a terribly busy day. Not really conducive to my meal and my being a customer. I love the Newbo area and this place has a ton of potential. But they need to pay attention to the finer details of customer service. read more

I love the selection of beer at Parlor City Pub and Eatery. I can always go there anytime and find a beer I like. The waitress that helped us was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. I just ordered beer but my friends ordered food and they said it tasted great. The atmosphere inside was calm and dimly lit. A must stop for beer. read more

We decided to sit on the patio, due to the fact that it was a beautiful Iowa summer day. We had to go inside to make sure that the wait staff knew that we were out there but after that, our waitress, Stacia, came out and immediately took our drink order. After that I could not have asked for a better experience. Our server had recommended the nachos for the four of us and they were great. (Tip: just get the nachos as they are big enough for a meal). As for the lunch, it was good. I got the cheesesteak with frits and dip....not great, but good. Everyone else in my party got a total different thing and didn't complain but also didn't rave about how good it was. All in all, we would all go back. Service deserves 5 stars though!!!! Been here a lot over the past 6 years or so. Not so much recently as every time I went back, things would deteriorate. First is was with the beer. Then the food. Always the service. Cleanliness. Then came a big post on social media complete with photos. Mold, dirt, poor kitchen practices. No thanks. Last night I was heading to the place across the street and at 8pm, the entire place was empty!!! From my window seat I could see the front door and the patio. The snow has melted and the sun has emerged. I now use my weekends to find all the best spots with patios. So naturally when running errands in Cedar Rapids I found somewhere with a patio and great beer selection. Siping a beer and soaking up the rays we decided on an appetizer to share for a little mid day snack. We settled on the fried green beans which were really good, who does love what feels like a healthy french fry. We didn't try anything else but the patio, sun, beer, and snacks made Parlor City a perfect place to add to our patio list. read more

Be honest! If you are short staffed or if you have servers that don't want to wait on people than say so at the door. Sunday 10:30 am. Our party of 3 was seated and our rude server came over like she was doing us a big favor. My daughter was looking at the lunch items of the menu we were provided. No exaggeration- the server grabbed it and flipped it over to the back page and said " we are serving breakfast now". Whoa! We ordered drinks as we were still in shock. When she returned we told her we were just having drinks at this point. Now she says "oh we can get you lunch in a bout 15 minutes" We left money on the table for the drinks and left. I refuse to patronize a business that hires and tolerates rude and insensitive employees. Guess what? There are 15 other food options within a block. read more

This is a a favorite of our's for Saturday morning breakfast. The place has an historic feel with all of the memorabilia from Cedar Rapids history and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. We have tried nearly everything on the breakfast menu and have not been disappointed. The Shipwreck is probably the best in the city with an interpretation that is like a Chicago deep dish pizza. The burrito is another favorite. It is loaded with the meat of your choice, veggies and eggs, served with sides of salsa and sour cream. The chicken fried pork is a classic tenderloin smothered with a flavorful sausage gravy. More traditional bacon and eggs are done well with quality ingredients. We aren't usually in the breakfast beer crowd, but when they first opened up after the first lockdown we made it a point to double our bill to show our support for one of our favorites. Our server insisted that I try one of the 55 beers they have on tap and I have to say that I had a great, and fresh, IPA. A great start to a Saturday! read more

Not much seems to be open in Cedar Rapids on a Sunday, particularly if it's Labor Day weekend. We had a handful of places we were thinking about trying before coming here and none of them were open. I don't want to say we settled, because this was on the list of places we thought about coming to for dinner, but it was somewhat of a default option. I'm glad we were seated in the other bar area in back because the front portion had live music and it was really loud. I don't want to say that's good or bad, but not what we were looking for a the time, so the quieter eating area was much more our speed that evening. You also have an option to sit outside on their patio that's between the two covered buildings. We waited a bit to be seated but it didn't take too long and drink orders were taken immediately after we sat down. I got a beer flight, which was quite substantial at four 7 oz. pours for $13.75. They have many beers from which to chose and a lot of options that I hadn't seen elsewhere. My friends and I started off with the Onion Rings and they were pretty good. They are thick and were warm-hot. We were able to eat most of them right away without burning our fingers, which was nice at the time but maybe should have been a warning of what was to come from the kitchen. My friend got the Juicy Lucy with fries. Her husband and I ordered our own Rib Eye steak dinners that came with Seasonal Vegetables and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. It was a long time before our food came out, but they were pretty packed and that was expected. What wasn't expected was that the fries were cold, the mashed potatoes were cold, and the veggies and steak were just barely warmed up. The second steak didn't come out with our meals and we waited. We waited a long time. When the waitress returned with the other order, it was smothered in onions and mushrooms, which isn't how it was ordered. This is when I asked her to have them remake my meal and we let her know about the fries (the Burger was the right temperature probably since it's stuffed with melted cheese). And even though it took a lot longer for the second steak to come out (the order was placed at the same time as mine), we found it was also not very hot. So this is when we decided we were done. My friend tried to find our waitress in the restaurant but all the waitstaff was running around and busy. I was finally able to flag her down when she came by us again. I informed her that I'd prefer my meal not be remade since the the second steak had come out cold (and I think a few other tables were experiencing similar issues but I can't verify it), even after pointing out to her that the other meals hadn't been that warm, and especially since the order was wrong. She asked how we wanted it handled and something to the effect of if we wanted to be discounted. I told her we wanted the steak meals to be removed from the bill since we wouldn't be eating them. read more

They have a great selection of craft beers and a great patio area for outdoor seating. The mozzarella sticks are so good, not your ordinary stick. The homemade chips with bacon horseradish sauce is a hit with all our friends. Nice area with lots of live music and much to do. read more

I was a little leery of going here when we did, it was the night of the newbo Halloween parade, but we enjoyed it. Our server was friendly and helpful. I told him ehstbtype of beer I liked and he suggested a great choice. Even gave me a sample to try. I had the chicken quesadilla. It was spicier thgan most I'm used to, but very good. Only down side was I ordered it without onions. The server told me the onions were cooked with the chicken, ok no problem, but it cane with big chunks of raw onion scattered on top. I picked them out, but would have preferred no onion. For a very busy night we were quite happy. read more

Fun place to take in some drinks and eats. The food and service both were fantastic. The location is perfect as it sits across from New Bo Market. **If you're lucky enough you may catch a performance on the community stage before/after your meal.** The only negative thing I have to say is how loud it was in there. Saturday around noonish. I'm greeted quickly as I settle at the bar and have a beer menu in hand shortly. I get the feeling my previous review has prompted a bit of an attitude shift, which is welcome. It's hard to tell since I'm a known factor now, and I've come to know some of the staff who were mortified when told of my previous experiences at the bar, so take it as you will. The couple sitting next to me found a very long hair in their juicy lucy burger. It happens but I've got to mention that. I've also posted a photo that should really tell the story of this establishment overall : not a reflection of the employees but the management. That photo shows the hole in the tile above the single urinal in the mens bathroom. I first noticed in October of 13, took a photo back in January and still in mid-april they haven't made any effort to replace a single large tile directly where male customers stare for several minutes while in silent contemplation. The bathroom feels like an afterthought (broken soap dispenser and dirty sink area) and it wouldn't cost more than $100 to replace the tile and grout but they tried to cover it - poorly - with some metal beer signs that have since been pried away from the wall. If you want a decent rating you need more than food, you need more than service - you need to present your establishment properly as well. It takes two hours and two hands to replace tile and they've ignored that for at least 6 months...what else has been neglected behind the scenes? I dont have anything personal against Parlor City, I want it to represent the best my hometown has to offer... but I cannot honestly recommend it as a top-flight establishment when it relies on one-star reviews before management notices there's a problem. Shabby bathrooms and hair in the hamburgers? No thanks. 2 1/2 stars for improved service, a long ways to go for a full three or more. For the price ($15-20 per person for food and one beer) I expect more. I was also told there were drink and food specials but didn't see any mention of either anywhere. I really want to like the place but aside from the beer selection I simply cannot recommend Parlor City. read more

I was highly disappointed in Parlor City Pub today. Stopped in for lunch with my brother and 2 kids after the farmers market. My son ordered a brisker sandwich and onion rings. His food was cold. Our server never came to our table to ask how was food was so i went up to the bar where she was standing with 2 other servers. I said my sons food is cold the sandwich and the onion rings. I assume it was a manager she said ok let me have them remake that fresh for you. She walked by our table after going into the kitchen and said "ive discounted your bill." After a 5ish minute wait she comes back with the food. I was shocked to see she brought back the SAME food. I knew it was the same food since the onion ring my son and i bit out of was still on that plate. In the mean time someone had dropped off our bill. The "discount" was $2.90. After seeing the same food brought back i took the bill up to the bar again, where the 3 of them were obviously talking about my table. I told her she brought back the same plate and her response was "i told them to make it fresh for you". After telling her the onion ring that we bit out of was still on the plate she tried to walk away to say thats not how we do it here. I said well then someone in the kitchen ate off my plate. She ended up taking off the brisket sandwich but never appologized for the screw ups. I would never go back and never recommend this place. She did a piss poor job of trying to fix the problem. read more

I love the decor, filled with lots of antique items from around the Cedar Rapids area - past restaurants, gas stations, etc. There's plenty of seating to accommodate large groups and they certainly have a great craft beer lineup on tap. But I wasn't thrilled with the service or menu. The waitress taking my order was very stern and reminded me of a drill sergeant, not someone I felt comfortable asking my questions about the menu to. I will say though that her "no bullshit" attitude got the job done and perhaps in a busy pub where she's being asked to cover too many tables, that's the best approach. The breakfast menu, tasty classic midwestern fare, didn't offer very many options, and there wasn't a single vegetarian dish. What?! There were several hashbrown skillet dishes which all sounded tasty but were all very meaty, and the only omelette was a build your own option which asked you to pick your meat and then pick your vegetable. I ended up ordering the shipwreck hashbrown skillet and substituted the meat out for broccoli. I was served a meatless shipwrecked as I asked, with broccoli garnish spread across the top. Not quite what I had in mind but it was still tasty - really, you can't go wrong with egg, cheese, hashbrowns, and a hefty dose of Cholula hot sauce. I'd go back for beer and apps because the atmosphere both inside and out on the back patio is great, but I was disappointed that they didn't offer a single vegetarian option. read more

The Juicy Lucy was really well done - by that I mean both well-made and tasty and well done, because you're not getting that middle cheese to melt without that level of cooking. Nevertheless, well-seasoned and good beef and a good bun. The Frips, which are house-made FRied chIPS, are served with either Bacon-horseradish dip or a french onion dip. We liked the space a lot, it seemed to have been remodeled with care. There are a lot of beers available on tap, I believe 56, but it seems like half are Sam Adams. They do have Toppling Goliath on the back page, but I would like to see more smaller breweries represented. Overall, a very good place, we'll come back and try more off the menu. read more

Out of three in our party, two of us got ours in on time frame, but the third was told they'd have to wait an extra 20 min because their Turkey wasn't ready. She didn't get it for another 1/2 hr way after the other two of us were done with our meal, AND her fries were cold on top of that. So, wasn't highly impressed with my first time there. read more

I must say, I am not a huge fan of this place. The food was good but the service was pretty bad. The waiters seems like someone pissed in there Cheerios and walked around acting angry at the world.
