Excellent food and service I have been there many times. It's located in a charming town too!

Super yumbo Aloha grilled tenderloin--I didn't know how the chili sauce and blue cheese would go together but it was fabulous with the pineapple. Also a great homemade ranch on the side salad and really good service overall. read more

Our food was delicious and delivered promptly. We had the swiss mushroom burger, the special tenderloin, breaded pickles, onion rings and margaritas. We warned the staff that we were coming back. read more

Wife & I attended Chalk the Walk and I was in search of a tenderloin. Have to say if we only ordered the tenderloin the review would be 5 stars. I ordered jalapeno poppers and got 6 for $11. Definitely pricy compared to 6 poppers I had 3 days ago for $6.49. They were definitely the same size and product. The wife ordered the chicken sandwich with no pickles & no tomatoes. It came out with all the fixings, pickles & tomatoes. She did ask and got different lettuce without pickle juice. The chicken looked like a chicken tender that was smaller than the bun, not worth the $15 we were charged. read more

The food and service are always excellent! I will go out of my way to eat here and get their chameleons salad

Stopped for lunch and they had a Philly as a special. It was excellent and the service was fast and friendly. Place was clean and nicely taken care of. Would absolutely return! read more

The food is great and it is very busy but worth the wait. We had the grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad and the tenderloin sandwich, both were outstanding. Nice to go to a pub and have a some healthy food options. We also had the he fried pickles and Wisconsin cheese curds. The cheese curds were awesome and the fried pickles were the best I have ever had. The staff are friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. A must stop when traveling through the area. read more

My buddy and I came here a few days ago and let me tell you, their breaded tenderloin is the absolute best I've ever had, anywhere, ever. Kind of like Joensy's USED to be. Tender. Juicy. Flavorful. I highly recommend. I didn't take a picture, much to my regret, sorry! read more

Service and Food were amazing! I would recommend the Asian grilled brussel sprouts to get started. Czech Rueben is a different take on the regular version with grilled pork tenderloin! This is a small town treasure worth the trip! read more

Wonderful service. Delicious food. Great menu and specials. Had the snitzel and the peach mojito. Grandson in college here, we will be back. read more

Duck wantons are so good. Will go there just for them. Amazing cooking and the service is always friendly when they're slammed busy.

Used to be good!!!! Fries changed, not the fresh fries they cut themselves to frozen. Wings are smaller, dry, and portions were ridiculously small for the price. The burgers aren't as good, tastes like frozen burgers also, and they changed the buns to some cheap bun. Very expensive when you can go anywhere else in town for food that tastes the same, if not better. Also, 10 tap lines and 4 were empty. Crazy, right? Never been to a bar with so many empty tap lines. Keep on walking if you don't want to spend a ton. Owners are worried about dollar signs and not quality. The quality has gone down read more

There was not enough staff. 1 cool and 1 waitress that was also the bartender, hostess and bus person. Took well over an hour to get our food. Food would have 4 star but fries were cold. Waitress was nice. read more

TL;DR: Good burgers but things didn't go perfectly. Had the Midwest Burger (BBQ, Cheddar Cheese). Good burger with no fuss (increasingly hard to find!), but it was the Sweet Potato Waffle Fries that stole the show! Also ordered onion rings gs but they forgot to put in the order, so it turned into desert. Seemed over priced, but when you're the only good burger spot for miles, I guess you can do that. Probably won't be back, but it wasn't necessarily a negative experience. read more

The people are amazing, the food is amazing, the beer choice is outstanding, and the atmosphere is great! You can't go wrong going into chameleons and ordering a burger and a beer you won't be disappointed in the slightest read more

Man I was super excited to bring my boyfriend here, I went a month ago and a fella was bartending he was friendly and the food was good! Came in this afternoon sat at the bar rail and waited for almost 10 mins was never even greeted. I'm a bartender I get if your busy it's hard to get to people but there was maybe 12 people in the entire place and two TWO bartenders (two older women if your management and wondering) who never even acknowledged us. I've never felt so invisible lol it's a bummer the beer selection looked good but I'd rather give my money to people who appreciate us being there read more

While small (legal occupancy limit is 50) the bar is generally packed after 10pm on most weekends that the college is in session. During the day locals stop in for a brew and food at the grill. The food at the grill is really good for bar food. Drinks average about $3. Currently on Wednesdays there are quarter draws between 10pm and midnight. This is a place that occasionally you will see college students dancing on the long bar. This year they stopped selling their shirts that read "I drank my first million ($) in college" read more

Chameleon's is/was your typical local college hangout. Small place with a long bar, tables and the obligatory golden tee. What do I recall about Chameleon's? Not much, as I was always obliterated in that place, between knowing the bar-tenders (it is a town of 3000 you know) and the drinks being a whopping $2.50- $3.00 with dollar draws, who remembers anything abtou the place? Other than long saturdays drunk at noon, leaving at 2:00AM. The food was always good, and cheap, and the lady who cooked it was awesome, coming out into the bar to deliver, banter and have some fun. Again, its been some time, but the place I'm sure hasn't changed, the people do - but Chameleon's, here's to you killing my liver! read more

Good kitchen and good hours Had a grilled chicken salad and a BLT sandwich with chips. Both were good and reasonably priced. Suggestions: Some signage, maybe a tasteful, colorful Chameleon that hangs perpendicular to the wall so the out-of-towner parents can find you. Also fix your map location in Yelp. It shows you in the middle of the block across the street read more

Very nice little place. A little bit of a dive, nothing fancy. Quiet (TVs are no sound, music is almost non-existent, like a pub should be). Good beer selection and prices, great snacks and decent food. Always friendly. read more

We were Yelping our way across Hwy 30 on an antiquing road trip. Had great reviews so thought we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed! We ordered the Diablo burger and the Aloha Tenderloin. Five stars for each. Fries were cooked perfectly and so were the sweet potato fries. Service was fast and friendly! Will go out of our way to come here again! read more

I really like this bar. To me this is the best bar in the Mount Vernon and Lisbon area because of the best food and drink combo. Great tenderloin and great sandwiches. Wonderful beer choice from your classics to actual craft beer from tap. read more

Chameleon's Pub & Grub - a chicken sandwich and fries - American Near Me - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Great tap beer choice, among the best tenderloins and burgers anywhere. Always good service.

Chameleon's serves honest bar food. Sometimes you just want a burger and onion rings, you know? Some of the other reviews are a bit dated: this place doesn't really cater to college students anymore. Draft beers (8-10 usually) run about $3-4 for the good stuff. read more

Growing up in the area, Chameleon's is always my "go to" place for food, drinks, or both! The quality of their food is outstanding, and they always have the best local beers on tap. While back in town, my husband and I went there with some friends and were greeted by Dana, who excelled in her service to us. She was very friendly and made sure that we were well taken care of. No longer living in the Midwest and currently living in a large city, my husband and I both agreed this was the first time in a LONG time that we had been treated this kindly and had such a personable server while out to eat. I would highly recommend Chameleon's, and want to shout out Dana for giving us such a great experience! We look forward to coming back during our next visit! read more

Fun dinner stop on our way through town. We sat on the back patio on a lovely evening, six of us. Our waiter was good, but might benefit from writing things down. The special, fried green tomato BLT was good abs had a delicious basil mayo. We also had a combo appetizer basket --corn, balls, and pickles. All good. The sweet potato fries others ordered looked good too, although I didn't try them. Overall, nice experience. read more

Chameleon's is my favorite bar in town. With most of the college students playing pool at Score's next door or seeking out the extra cheap drinks at C&D's, this has become more of a local joint (which I'm certainly not complaining about). They have a small, but diverse selection of beer on tap and their food is quite good. Order their Jalapeno Bottle Caps, they're awesome with a cold beer. They also serve a mean Bloody Mar. read more

Walked in, ordered 5 meals to go along with a beer. A couple came in in the meantime and ordered after I did. I got my beer, and the couple that came in got their food. Another family came in and ordered food. My food wasn't ready so I ordered another beer. Meanwhile, the second family had received their food. Still waiting, I ordered another beer and this time the bartender apologized for the wait. I asked her how much longer we had to wait and checked with the cook and he told her 10 more minutes. At this time I had been waiting near an hour. My food finally came so I paid, around $80 after the tip, and left to go home. When I got home, which was a 3 minute drive away, I opened our food find it luke warm to cold along with an entire meal missing. I called the pub to complain about the terrible service and missing meal and all I got was a "sorry the cook is new. Do you want me cook what was missing? " so I had to drive back to pick up what was left out of my order. Food was cold, and couldn't even eat it all. I will never order another thing from Chameleons. I'll go to Scorz from now on. read more

Great bar food!! Terrific service!! Perfect small town friendly bar

We visited the chalk the walk fest this weekend. Clearly, the cook was way over her head and out of her league. The 80 minutes wait as much longer than expected, but the food was not worth any wait. The cook squeezed the life and juice out of the burgers on the griddle. And there perhaps was only one fryer because all the dishes, chicken, fries, etc. had the same taste. If the food left on the plates is any indication, I think other patrons experienced similar food, fare and service. read more
