This is one of our go to spots. We've tried a good chunk of the menu, and have yet to find an appetizer or main we haven't liked. The variety of appetizers is solid and we almost always get at least two because it's so hard to decide. The pork belly burnt ends and cheese bread are regular favorites for us. The barbecue strangely enough is solid for a place that doesn't do it regularly. I usually get some type of chicken sandwich and the chicken is always moist and above average. The only "cons" I have. Sometimes the service can be a touch slow. This isn't super common, but has happened once or twice for us. Second: the kids chicken tenders just do not look appealing and my son isn't impressed by them. They're dry and honestly they'd be better off getting premade frozen ones cause these ones aren't great. The fries however make up for this ten fold as my son is obsessed with their fries. Otherwise, this place is solid. We recommend it to friends and family regularly and it's a great spot if you're wanting to try something unique. read more

After missing out for many years, we went back after hearing good reviews from others. We had a chicken sandwich and the American Classic burger. Both were excellent and the service was great and fast. Large sides of pub fries and cottage cheese were very good. We had happy hour drinks - a bit on the small side, but a good bargain. Some hints, specify your vodka if getting a mule. Parking lot is a bit tricky. They had a patio too but it was rainy so no go for us. We will be back. Often lost behind other businesses this place truly is a hideaway. The staff are very friendly and provide good service. The food is really good and it's hard to pick just one option. My friend and I got the Hawkeye. Roast beef, bacon, Russian dressing, sautéed veggies - super good. The fries are also super crispy and their ranch is amazing. The place sits back away from the street as the name implies. "Hideaway". The entrance is on the west side of the building. Jessie, our waitress confirmed our selections as being top-tier. I chose the Hideaway pasta, which was excellent. The portion size was more than I could complete in one seating. The pasta as described on the menu, had bacon, shrimp, plenty of parmesan cheese, and their special hideaway cream sauce. Delicious! Other entree's options chosen were the BBQ Sundae, and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. We had the lemonade and one had the Maple Old Fashioned. Everyone really enjoyed the meal and experience. The atmosphere appeared relatively festive as all the patrons around us appeared to enjoy their foods and drinks as well. Been awhile since I went here and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. The place is dark and hidden off the beaten path but well worth looking for. Tip for the newcomers......The spicy chicken ragoons are out of this world!! We had those, the redneck nachos and garlic bread for appetizers and all were amazing but the ragoons were the biggest hit! The menu is huge so you'll definitely be able to find something to your liking. Opted for the Philly and it was fantastic! All their stuff is homemade, including their fries.....SO GOOD! If you know me, you know i'm a sucker for chicken and mac and cheese. Lucky for me this place had both. They actually had quite a lot of options on the menu which made it hard to decide! I got the chicken fingers with a side of mac and cheese. The mac was creamy and had very good flavor. Nothing was special about the chicken fingers but the buffalo sauce was very good, had a good zing! great service, we had a big party and they kindly moved us to a bigger table. I have some food allergies and so I needed to improvise my food order, and the waitress was very respectful and helpful. I got a chicken salad and my boyfriend got a burger and it was all delicious. The venue is dimly lit at Emil's Hideaway, making it a great place for a date night. They don't have that great of a craft beer selection but their appetizers/food make up for it. How was the food? Really great. For an appetizer, We ordered the spicy wontons which lived up to the hype! Those were absolutely amazing. We also each had a pizza. She had the taco pizza and I had some kind of meat lovers pizza. Let me tell you that this was some of the best pizza I've had. Even though I had a couple of slices left over, they did not make it home as I ate them in the car on the highway. Don't judge. I only gave this restaurant four stars because almost every step of our meal was incorrect. We had to remind them about our appetizer and My fiancé's pizza was incorrect. Once we alerted them to the problems we were having, and they immediately did right by us and not only gave us a discount but apologize. That was greatly appreciated. Oh my Lanta! My girlfriend and I happened across this literal hideaway in October 2023 and we both agree it's an amazing establishment. I personally rate it my newest CR favorite. The food was divine and the staff were impeccable. I got the chicken parm and they used breaded tenders instead of a massive patty and she got, get this, the Mongolian lo mein which was the perfect dish. Sweet and savory with chopped ribeye thin steak, it was killer! Will definitely come back. read more

The food here was super overpriced, and poorly made. The onion strips were so greasy-just a good idea poorly made. All batter, no flavor. I tried to order the impossible burger, which was advertised ALL over the restaurant. They were all out, I ended up getting a regular burger, the bun was too thin, the patties were over cooked. And after leaving, my stomach hurt so bad The waitress was super nice, and did really well! She seemed like the only person around who cared about their job (besides the bartender). This was my first visit to Emil's where I met some friends for supper while I was in town. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The atmosphere was cozy, great view of the TV screens so I could keep up with the March Madness basketball games, could easily converse with my friends, and the food was terrific! Started with the Dynamite Shrimp and selected the Hideaway Pasta as the entree (with the garlic bread). It was an excellent choice, but there is so much more I wanted to try. We ate at this hidden gem during out recent trip to Cedar Rapids. The service was great and the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the spicy chicken rangoons. They were just delicious. Everything was good but my husband's smothered chicken sandwich was amazing. My patty melt was good but I saw a Buffalo chicken sandwich being delivered to the next table over and I wished I had gotten that as it looked really good. That is what I will order next time.
