Often lost behind other businesses this place truly is a hideaway. The staff are very friendly and provide good service. The food is really good and it's hard to pick just one option. My friend and I got the Hawkeye. Roast beef, bacon, Russian dressing, sautéed veggies - super good. The fries are also super crispy and their ranch is amazing. The place sits back away from the street as the name implies. "Hideaway". The entrance is on the west side of the building. Jessie, our waitress confirmed our selections as being top-tier. I chose the Hideaway pasta, which was excellent. The portion size was more than I could complete in one seating. The pasta as described on the menu, had bacon, shrimp, plenty of parmesan cheese, and their special hideaway cream sauce. Delicious! Other entree's options chosen were the BBQ Sundae, and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. We had the lemonade and one had the Maple Old Fashioned. Everyone really enjoyed the meal and experience. The atmosphere appeared relatively festive as all the patrons around us appeared to enjoy their foods and drinks as well. I have some food allergies and so I needed to improvise my food order, and the waitress was very respectful and helpful. I got a chicken salad and my boyfriend got a burger and it was all delicious. The venue is dimly lit at Emil's Hideaway, making it a great place for a date night. They don't have that great of a craft beer selection but their appetizers/food make up for it. She had the taco pizza and I had some kind of meat lovers pizza. Let me tell you that this was some of the best pizza I've had. Even though I had a couple of slices left over, they did not make it home as I ate them in the car on the highway. Don't judge. I only gave this restaurant four stars because almost every step of our meal was incorrect. We had to remind them about our appetizer and My fiancé's pizza was incorrect. Once we alerted them to the problems we were having, and they immediately did right by us and not only gave us a discount but apologize. That was greatly appreciated. Oh my Lanta! My girlfriend and I happened across this literal hideaway in October 2023 and we both agree it's an amazing establishment. I personally rate it my newest CR favorite. The food was divine and the staff were impeccable. I got the chicken parm and they used breaded tenders instead of a massive patty and she got, get this, the Mongolian lo mein which was the perfect dish. And after leaving, my stomach hurt so bad The waitress was super nice, and did really well! She seemed like the only person around who cared about their job (besides the bartender). We ate at this hidden gem during out recent trip to Cedar Rapids. The service was great and the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the spicy chicken rangoons. They were just delicious. Everything was good but my husband's smothered chicken sandwich was amazing. My patty melt was good but I saw a Buffalo chicken sandwich being delivered to the next table over and I wished I had gotten that as it looked really good. That is what I will order next time. This was my first visit to Emil's where I met some friends for supper while I was in town. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The atmosphere was cozy, great view of the TV screens so I could keep up with the March Madness basketball games, could easily converse with my friends, and the food was terrific! Started with the Dynamite Shrimp and selected the Hideaway Pasta as the entree (with the garlic bread). It was an excellent choice, but there is so much more I wanted to try.
