Came here to do a Fantasy Football draft. Service was great. She was helpful and made sure we always had full drinks. The food however was very disappointing. I got the Scottie and it was very bland. The food and atmosphere is top notch, the wait for food even on a busy Friday night wasn't long at all. We were in town for a hockey tournament and had two children with us, after about 8pm I wouldn't bring younger kids here on a weekend as there isn't a lot of space to walk between tables and a couple people even tripped over another tables high chair. We learned by the end of the night not to take the waitstaffs rushed feeling personally; even if you do feel rushed or as though they aren't listening continue to be nice and give them grace. The 3 stars is a combination of a 4 stars for beers and 2 stars for the food. First the food which all I can base this on is the stale chips in the nacho plate, or I think it was called chips and friends. The friends is the 3 dipping sauces but I like to refer to the friends as some fresh chips and some stale chips. Kind of like gambling with your snack. I always appreciate a local brewery but don't usually trust them for food. I messed up by coming here. Sadly I didn't have the beer so I can't rate them on that, but I will note that my three friends that had one each, didn't like them at all. And one even tried three other beers before settling with a pint that he eventually hated and couldn't finish. It was a farmhouse ale that smelled like brussel sprouts. The food is beyond mediocre. A coworker and I got the Split Chicken Breast that came with rice. I went with green beans as my side which was the seasonal vegetable they had on. I really feel that someone tried using an air fryer for the first time and happened to turn my chicken into jerky. Talk about tough! There was seriously no moisture left in that bird. The rice was something out of a microwaveable bag that lacked flavor and the green beans didn't seem fresh at all. They didn't have flavor either but at least they didn't squeak when you chew them like some others I've had before. Two others that were with us got the buffalo chicken Mac n' cheese. They told me that it tasted like a box of Kraft and the chicken was some pre-made nuggets doused in sauce. I'm happy I didn't try it because they didn't even finish their bowls. The next day they were out from work because of food poisoning. The setup of the place is nice for sports fans. With the tv at the table and all that, I'm sure it gets wild during big games. Tried this brewery one day after passing by the place often. The service at lunch was good and I enjoyed the beer. Unfortunately, this establishment is unable to make good fish & chips. The breading was awful, which seemed to be the biggest reason, and overcooked. I've had good fish & chips elsewhere in town. This is not a complicated entree to make, so it may be that whoever has decided how it should be breaded needs to completely re-think the recipe. When I mentioned my experience with the Fish & chips to my coworker, who suggested the establishment, the person stated that her father had also tried this entrée there and he too stated that the fish was awful. In light of the good brew and the outstanding service from the waitress, I am willing to give them another try. I will update my review after another visit.... read more

I think this is a neat little brewery. Often dark when you walk in, this brewery is usually pretty quiet and chill, and has a musky hops smell. Third Base Brewery comes out with a lot of different new releases that are tasty craft beers. One cool thing was that I was going out on a Monday night and could not find a brewery to go to that was open and Third Base Brewery was open. A nice sports pub. read more

We hit up the three big breweries in the area on one Saturday (Lion Bridge Brewing, Third Base Brewery, and Turner Alley Brewing), and this was by-far, our least favorite. THINGS TO KNOW: -Great parking lot. You can park right outside the door without much issue. -They serve a full dinner/food menu alongside the beer itself. -Bar seating, booth seating, and table seating is available. Pretty large seating options, too, so I can't imagine this getting too busy. We came on a Saturday night at dinner, and it was pretty empty. PROS: -Most of the tables have a TV right on the table itself. If you're hear to watch a game or osmething, it's really easy to ensure you can watch the one you want. -Pretty large, varied food menu. Reminds me of most sports bar restaurants. Some pasta, burgers, sandwiches, chicken wings, appetizers, and a couple desserts. CONS: -Service was pretty spotty. Drink refills were really slow to come - as was the check or our initial drinks. -The food was okay. Nothing amazing but nothing horrible either. -Just really wasn't in love with the atmosphere. It gave off a definitely-typical sports bar atmosphere - which wasn't bad, but it really wasn't I was quite expecting. It just doesn't have a "brewery" feel to it. -The beers weren't too spectacular. Most of them tasted relatively domestic. They would have been fantastic as beers that you want to drink over long amounts of time. This will be my go to spot in Cedar Rapids. Not to far from where I am staying and the food is good. Typical bar fare but good and fast. The have a killer Chicken tortilla soup. The vegetable beef is just as outstanding. Good beer selections and they do have a full bar. Parking is not an issue either. This is a place where locals hang, so this is definitely my type of spot. Food has really gone down hill. Onion rings were flavorless and seem to have come from frozen. Tenderloin looked like a fish patty and was drowned in mayonnaise. Nasty. Pretzel bites were tough and the beer cheese had a good taste but was too thick to really use as a dip. Server was nice but as with most places, there are not enough servers. This brewery is a hidden gem. It is not the most classiest place in town, but it does offer good food, brews, and service. We walked in on a busy Friday night and were told to seat ourselves which was difficult as the place was packed! Once we did find a spot in the back room we were quickly greeted by our server. I tried the Sour - "pink drink" and my husband had the house wheat ale. Both were flavorful, smooth, and easy to drink. For dinner I had the philly with brew city fries and my husband had the mushroom Swiss burger with onion rings. My philly was juicy, topped with melty Swiss cheese and served with an jus. The fries were also great - lightly seasoned, Golden, and crispy... they passed my test :). Made me feel welcome that's for sure! There was quite a few locals there on my Wednesday evening visit but at no point did it feel like I was the only one who didn't know anyone. This is the first place in my travels that for the first time visiting I felt so welcome. The place was mostly packed on a Wednesday but service was on point. I was served immediately and their beer was great! A local would walk up to the bar and the tender would immediately either pour them a drink or beer without a word being said and then continue on assisting everyone else without any favoritism. I can't say enough about the service and all around vibe here. I would make it a point to stop here if you're within an hours reach just because it was such a pleasant experience. I wish I lived here because after this experience I don't know if anywhere will ever stand up. They didn't pay me to write this I swear, I know it seems a bit heavy handed but third base brew is truly exceptional! read more

A solid 4 stars because it delivered just what it was supposed to. We are in from out of town for a baseball tournament , and they easily accommodated our large group. Food - Ordered the traditional wings with Dixie Heat sauce. I was pretty impressed with them. The wings were meaty and the sauce had a good amount of heat with the right amount of flavor. I was told by a friend to order the wings and I was not disappointed. The rest of the menu is what you would expect to find in a brewery/sports bar. Beer - The beers left me a little underwhelmed. I know, based upon things I have read within beer groups, that Third Base has been quietly brewing some really good beers. Unfortunately the day I was in all they really had on tap was their base beers and they were really just "meh" at best. I don't make it to CR that often so I hope in the future I get another chance to stop by and try some of the good stuff I have been reading about. Ambiance - When it started filling up it felt a little cramped inside. Lots of TVs as you would expect from a sports bar and they even had Buzztime trivia. Service - Service started out kind of on the bad side. I was asking the waitress to describe all the wing sauces since the menu didn't do that and with names like Dixie Heat and Black Cobra, it really isn't self explanatory. She was really short with the answers as if I was being an inconvenience to her. With that said, later during the meal she came by to explain that she was stuck waiting on a large group table in the other room and that was why she wasn't being the most attentive to us. This is a Cedar Rapids classic! Not only do they pour some of the best beers in the Cedar Rapids area but this becomes the reunion hangout for out-of-towners who have moved away but come home over the holidays. I see a familiar face nearly every time I visit. Last time I was here they were serving Friends Forever, I am sure that beer is long gone but it was by far one of the best hazy beers I have had. Super smooth and delicious. A word of caution, you may run into old classmates and thus find yourself going down uncomfortable memory lanes. I ran into a guy, couldn't even remember his name but knew we went to school together back at Linn-Mar. He remembered me as, "The girl who used to call his house and pretend to be someone else to his parents." yikes - but embarrassing memories aside, it's nearly impossible to come here and not have a good time even if just with friendly strangers at the bar. Falls short of 5 stars because service can be hit or miss when ordering food. But if you come in for a night cap, definitely 5 stars. read more
