Pretty solid place for what it is. Beer was cold, staff was great. I can see how parking can be an issue at times, but easy walk from hotel. Pork tenderloin sandwich was very good, but could be excellent by pounding it thin. Just retained too much oil from frying. I'd come back. read more

Heck yeah! This is a local dive bar all the way! The vibe of the place is 100% local. Too many signs out front, poorly lit, mostly all high-top tables, lots of bottles/cans of basic beers. We sat at the (full) bar, but there was only one guy working hard to serve. Once our group of 6 walked in, I kind of expected them to bring someone else out to keep drinks flowing. We had some fries that were pretty basic. There were a few quality beers on tap, but one keg ran out. After the bartender went in the back to change it out, it never really started working again. He finally gave up. Good call, I guess. There was an EXCELLENT live cover band...but they were way too loud. Like, nearly rock concert loud. At least they were good, right? The prices were good, the beer selection was nearly adequate. There was also a sketchy looking lady kind of hanging out with her big friend in the corner. If your looking for a noisy hole in the wall to drink beer and do shots while the games are on, you could do worse. If your looking for good kareoke, keep looking. OK food. Cold beer. Decent prices. **Warning** My friend went outside to smoke and was caught off guard by one of Checkers "regulars". This woman attacked my friend, knocked her to the ground, hit her several times, and said she did it because her short haircut made her look like a "Dyke". After getting up and walking back inside shaking from the attack, she was told by the management and bartender that she would have to leave. I called in enquiring why she was asked to leave, and they said it was because she was "fighting". My friend is straight (not that it should matter), but I definitely would not say this place is gay or minority friendly. They also don't seem to care about their patrons safety. read more

This bar is conveniently located for anyone staying in a nearby hotel (we stopped in during our stay going from NY to MN) the bartender (maybe owner as well?) and the other guest were super friendly and we chatted about the local area and some cool landmarks in the state we should check out. The kitchen wasn't open by the time we got here (it was a Monday and closed at 9) but the beer was GREAT and the bar was quiet and comfortable. There is a few games like cornhole and electric darts. Overall a nice quick place to stop for a beer or bite to eat and some easy conversation. I would totaly come here again if I ever pass through the area!!! read more

This is a local, dive bar. No two ways around it. I almost wondered, "should I be here?" But the Compensation Stout was PHENOMENAL, and the service was even better. The woman behind the bar was knowledgable, attentive and made me feel very comfortable. The burger was actually pretty delish too, fair price and all. Went last Friday (08/26/11) to watch Patchy Fog and have some dinner (late since they don't start the music until 9:00pm). The music was fun, the food was good (we both had burgers one 1/3lb and one 2/3lb although they warned us it would take 20min for the big burger). The burgers were tasty, although too much we ate them anyway. They also passed my personal condiment test by including a bottle of BBQ sauce and a bottle of A1 without having to ask for them. Lots of other good sounding items for lunch specials and other items on the menu. We will be back! read more

The RUDEST bartender I've come across in my life (older lady with long dark hair and bangs). My mouth was agape after every interaction with her. When we ordered she said "good thing I'm not busy...". Gobsmacked. When she would walk by and we had an empty drink she wouldn't even acknowledge us. We would have to ask for another, and would never get an answer. We just hoped for the best. The food was also disgusting. We ordered waffle fries for an app and the reeked and tasted like fish. My friend got potato salad and a sandwich for dinner. He's the least picky person I know and refused to eat both. Neither were taken off the bill. If we had not been playing trivia I would have gotten up and walked out. Before we even got our first drink I was so insulted and disgusted by the way this woman treated us. The owners needs to take a long, hard look at who they employ. Will never return and will tell everyone I know about this place... read more
