We have only dined at Picantillo on a couple of occasions but we were pleasantly surprised each time. They have a nice mix of food on the menu and their margaritas are very good. The first time we went I had the Shrimp Fajita Wrap which was really good but I really wished that it was served with fries instead of more tortilla chips. My husband had the Chimichanga which he really enjoyed. The last time we went I had the Crab Cake Sandwich and I actually liked it quite a bit. Last time we picked up food, they forgot to include the soup. Could not refund the cost, only give us the soup next time we visited. Or we could drive back to the restaurant. Tonight we ordered tacos, and the soup that was missed last time. They remembered the soup, but did not include the sour cream, guacamole, lettuce or picante sauce that are included with the taco platter. If you get carry out, check your order before leaving the restaurant. read more

Today we went and the waitress was an airhead. We waited forever for drink refill. She just need to stop hanging around the bar chatting. The quality of food gone down the hill. Last year the corned beef poppers were larger and better tasting. This year our portion was much smaller and the Irish menu sucks. Shepherd Pie tastes like cheap ground beef with gray from jar rather than ground lamb mixture. We will be researching for a better Mexican and Irish restaurant and willing to drive further. read more

Average Tex Mex eatery. The food and restaurant should get a 2 star but the staff were so nice it will get a 3. Bright hispanic colors that serve margaritas. I cant comment on the alcohol because I was not able to imbibe. Menu had some interesting items including oysters that you usually dont see at a tex mex restaurant. Got the enchiladas. Seems like it ran into the same ole te mex restaurant problems, refried beans didnt taste fresh and the beef in the beef enchilada tasted a little off. We took my son to this restaurant today. It was 95 outside and 90 inside. When I mentioned to the waitress my concern about the restaurant's oppressive temperature, her comment was the air conditioner was turned up as high as it goes. I mistakenly thought the restaurant would get cooler but it became hotter. After ordering, I realized that ordering was a mistake. I was rudely told by the waitress that the order was started and they could only offer us a take out. We tried to make the best of it but we ate less than half of our dinner., The waitress had an I could care less attitude and I told her so. I told her she should have been more truthful and stated upfront before we ordered that the air conditioning was inadequate . Perhaps the air conditioning was set way too high to save a buck. The bottom line is that we will never ever come back. Lista's has better food and better wait staff. Do your self a favor and avoid this place!!! read more

Food was blah. We went on a Thursday evening. Barely anyone in the restaurant and our waiter managed to take 15 minutes to bring us our drinks, another 15 minutes to take our orders, then he disappeared for about 40 minutes. The manager brought our food out. Then the waiter came back and asked how everything tastes (we were finished eating) and we asked for another margarita, and dessert... mistake. Waited another 15 minutes and got our margarita then dessert another 5 minutes later. We didn't like the dessert (churros) so we sent them back when he came back around 10 minutes later and it took him about 10 minutes to get it taken off so we just gave him our card without looking at the check so we could finally leave. We weren't planning on spending an entire evening there, and don't plan to again. Margaritas were okay so 2 stars. read more

Not worth the price. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce, won't be returning. Chicken fajitas had decent flavor.

Very unhappy. The fact they charge extra for an extra basket of chips turned me off before we even got our food. The sodas were flat. When we asked about the cheese sauce having peppers, we were told they didn't know, so we asked for a tiny cup to try it and were discouraged from asking, but eventually she brought it over. My husband ordered grilled chicken tacos with only chicken and cheese, as he's allergic to onions we were sure to state only 2 ingredients. It came out with both pieces of tomato and grilled onions. They were quick to apologize and remake them, but I was then eating alone and finished before his remake arrived. The manager brought over his food and didn't apologize, nor did they offer any kind of compensation - we would have been happy with a simple apology. read more

I am a huge fan of trying new things and one of them is American food but if you add the Mexican part to it, that's all you need to tell me. This helped me end up at the Sunday's Brunch buffet! It was my first one I've ever been to in my life. The hours were 9am-2pm. Adults 13.99, children ages 10 & under is 8.99. What has me coming back are the steamed mussels. YUM! I originally wanted to go to another Mexican joint, but my wife (her name is Jen) doesn't like to agree with anything I suggest so we had to try a new place. It's close to home & I only wanted fajitas so I figured 'what the hell'. Although Picantillo wasn't my first choice, I had insisted on Mexican so naturally my wife (Jen) had to make an effort to NOT enjoy her meal because she doesn't enjoy when she isn't in complete control. The service was great, but I have to admit that there were a few things that just weren't right. I have no problem admitting that my choices aren't 100% flawless. One thing is that the queso is Velveeta based, which is good but I expect more from a Mexican joint. The fajitas were good, but the chicken lacked the 'grill flavor' I expect. The plate could use a lime wedge or two as well. I won't get into my wife's opinion, for one because her's isn't valid in this instance, plus I will run out of web space if I tried. I would come back again but I'd have to somehow make my wife (Jen) think it was her idea. read more

This little resturant has been here for awhile now and I finally got the chance to dine there last month. We had the Tacos, hard and soft and I must say I am picky about Tacos and I really liked them. The chips and salsa was also a very nice addition to the experience. Just tried Picantillo for the first time today. Was great and amazing food. My wife and I tried the combo platter and the three chip dunking combo. It was amazing. Prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly, nice, and very helpful with what to try for a first time. Will have no problem going back to this place. read more

The "Dinner Specials" page inserted in the menu said "Large House Margarita- $6". It seemed a little pricey, but we went ahead and ordered two "Large Margaritas". When we got the bill we were charged $9 each for the two drinks. When I said they were supposed to be $6 the waitress said that is for the "HOUSE" margarita. I just smiled and said nothing, knowing that she was going to personally pay for the overcharge for me anyway, out of her tip. I thought the food was OK but overpriced. If they would lower their prices by 25% across-the-board (and stop the bait-and-switch) then I think the place would be popular. However, I was there on a Saturday evening during dinner hours and the place was only at about 1/3 capacity. My guess is that they won't be in business very much longer unless they offer a better value. Instead, my suspicion is that they are failing, panicking, and desperate enough to do the bait-and-switch. read more

This new, local business needs to step it up! The menu has standard Tex-Mex offerings. The margaritas are strong. My enchilada was good, but not more so than your average. The beans are not good at all and the rice is oily. It seemed like the service is the biggest hardship here. Our waitress was very sweet, but overwhelmed. Drinks were very slow to arrive. Surrounding tables were covered in dirty dishes and needed to be bussed. The hostess was no where to be found when we walked in. This area of Lakeshore could really use a great local restaurant. We'll give them a few more weeks to get over their growing pains and maybe try them again for brunch or lunch. Our week night dinner left much to be desired. read more

After living in California for three years I cried when I tried Mexican food in the state of Maryland, until this place. So far everything I have tried has been great but my favorite is the enchilada combo platter (I always call it the Enchilada Trio but that is not it's proper name). I grew up in the Dena, and when I come back to visit my parents I always subconsciously hope we'll go here. After the 177 Diner coasted downhill and out of business, I didn't have super high hopes for what would replace it. I was intrigued to find a Mexican restaurant in the space, and I was thrilled to find that it's actually GOOD Mexican food. I lived in Colorado for 9 years, and while, as a relatively gastronomically uneducated gringa, I can't really discern "authentic," I got used to Mexican food that has rich and balanced flavors and is consistently satisfying. I've been to this place about three times now. Each time, I left happy, albeit on a couple of occasions I was about ready to explode. (The combo platters are sizable.) Based on a couple meals my parents have had, El Picantillo also does a pretty good job with sandwiches, salads, and other general American staples. I had a leftover crabcake that my mom got there once and was pleasantly surprised. At some point I'd like to try just going for drinks, as the bar area is cute, but in the meantime I can recommend a Mexican coffee (or two) as an after-dinner drink. Yum. Just ate here this evening for the first time. Lived in California and ate some of the best Mexican food out there and I put this restaurant up there with them. Authentic as it gets with good prices. Very friendly staff as well. Try their Chimichanga. Only Mexican restaurant around that can compete with Picantillo when it comes to authenticity is the restaurant across the street from Marley Station Mall. Hopefully it sticks around for a while cause it is a gem in an area with few restaurants. read more

The salsa tasted like ketchup, the tortillas were standard, the steak in the fajitas was tough, the guacamole didn't taste super fresh, and the peppers didn't have a lot of flavor.
