Though the rating was 5 stars, there were only 5 reviews, so with slight hesitation I decided to check it out anyway. As soon as we walked into the door, we were early greeted and was given a menu. The cashier was friendly and helpful. I decided to order the quarter chicken with two sides choosing cilantro rice & fresh vegetables as well as horchata. Once ordered, we were given a number and sat down for our food. It's a small place with 4 small tables and a few counter seats. There are also outdoor seating. The food was quickly brought to our table and we enjoyed our meals. I liked the Peruvian chicken and the sides. It is flavorful and for me is enough. Because I ordered dark meat, the protein is smaller. Next time I probably would go for the white meat or half chicken. Everything was tasty and I paid less than $13 which nowadays is reasonable. The horchata had the right amount of sweetness and cinnamon. The cashier was friendly and came over & checked on us. Overall a good place for a quick bite. This spot is really unassuming, I've driven by a bunch of times and never noticed it. A friend recommended getting a family dinner there last Friday and so we did. The restaurant is very small and narrow. There are some tables to sit at, but I wouldn't recommend eating in house unless your party is 2 or less. It's also a wee bit run down looking, though clean. That said, we ordered 2 full chickens, and that came with 4 sides - we went with fries, plantains, rice, and beans. Not sure how this place doesn't have more reviews. El Pollo Cool serves some of the best peruvian chicken and sides that are second to none. And, I know my peruvian chicken...from Lima's in Annapolis to Pollo Rico in Silver Spring, Maryland (and a few more in between), El Pollo Cool touches all the bases when it comes to crispy skin on the outside with moist and perfectly seasoned chicken on the inside. The rice and black beans are equally good but the star of the meal is the chicken (as it should be!). They provide the typical mild/white sauce and green mole sauce for dipping. Very small and unassuming place in a strip mall, only a few tables inside but there is outdoor seating at tables with umbrellas. The owner and staff were friendly and hospitable.
