We were impressed at first because we were able to have a group of seven seated immediately. The decor is nice, the garden patio where we sat was even nicer, and we were asked for our drink orders immediately. I ordered a screwdriver but when the drinks came out I was given a mimosa. No worries, I'm down with OJ either way so I didn't mind. However, I ordered a full portion of pasta (forget its name but it was she'll pasta, sundried tomatoes, broccoli, and chicken), and was served a lunch portion. My friend ordered a soup and a lunch portion of her pasta, and while her soup arrived on time, they never brought out her pasta. We had all finished our meals by the time our waiter came out and she could ask for it. This could have just been issues with our waiter though, I would still give the place another try because the food was delicious an they served such a late brunch! We last ate at Piazza D'Angelo nearly 10 years ago. Today, we went again, and while it was very good, it is not, sadly, as good as it was back then. 10 years ago, it would easily rank 5 stars for us, but today I cannot fairly give it more than 4, and here's why: The bread basket 10 years ago contained three different breads and each was astonishingly good, with or without the dipping pesto. Bread so good that we would drive the 40 miles, sometimes just for the experience of the bread alone -- it really was that good. Today's visit: the bread basket also had three different breads, and while they were fresh, you really had to enjoy it with the dipping oil, which had also changed to a delicious minced olive and herb pesto. The bread did not, to me, seem likely to have been made on-site, as I presume it was in years past. A real shame, in my opinion, since their bread 10 years ago was sublime. But the main reason today we can give only 4 stars was the unfortunate inclusion of not one but several hairs on the plate of our shared salad. My son found them, and they were a distinct mis-match to his own hair! But this didn't stop us, we ate the salad, which was itself extraordinary, with fresh mozzarella like I have never had before. I would order that salad again in an instant, even if I would have to first dissect it for any potential follicles from the kitchen! We ordered the pizza Margherita, which was exactly as I remember it from years past: very thin crust with a tiny bit of char, perfectly sauced and seasoned. It is as pizza should be, in my opinion. Lastly, for dessert, I had their Tiramisu which was, hands down, the very best I have had in my life. They drizzled a tiny amount of an orange citrus reduction which adds a tiny kick of acidity, cutting down on the richness of this perfect dessert. Service was exceptional, atmosphere warm and friendly. I will definitely go again, hopefully a lot sooner than it had been since our last trip. read more

I used to visit D'Angelo almost daily about 7 years ago. It was always between D'Angelo or B44 (review of B44 on their page). My Wife ask me to revisit the Mill Valley restaurant scene since we moved north. I was in need for some pasta so D'Angleo it was. My Burrata appetizer was stunningly good. The heirloom tomato taster like, heirloom tomato! I could not get enough (and I hate tomatos!)! The Burrata had structure and was not soupy like at that other place the day after. They did not had a Fettuccine Alfredo on the menu but made on for me from scratch anyway and it was perfect. The Fettuccine is house made and one can tell! The Kids shared Fettuccine Bolognese and could not stop smiling (they are kind of spoiled food wise). Good news here! My Wife enjoyed her Spaghetti Gamberi e Vongole (she is into seafood) and was happy (understatement, she was kind of glowing of happiness) about how fresh and tasty everything is. The bar tender, I remember him form years ago. This man knows his job. My (here we go again B44, how hard can it be?) Chopin Martini, up with a twist and a splash of cranberry was perfectly chilled (little ice chips floating on the surface, how it should be) using CHOPIN VODKA. Very smooth and enjoyable! Just the fact that this one was made to perfection makes us come back tonight. Our Waiter was very professional and went the extra mile like it was normal MO. Desert was fantastic too. For a quick casual bite, i like to sit in the front by the bar (no table cloths). And for a longer date night, we get a table further back (table cloths). Oh, and mark your calendar. I have been going to D'Angel's off and on for years. I went tonight and it felt like the owners had been whisked away on a space ship and aliens had taken over the kitchen and service. I give it one star because that is the minimum. Two things. When I sent there tonight, I came in from the rear parking lot. The kitchen door was open. The floor was dirty, filthy really. The kitchen looked like a sweatshop of very hard working LatinX people churning out food in microwaves and pots. So be it. I ordered soup and sole. The soup was edible. The sole was inedible. Microwaved (you can tell by the intensity of the heat inside the dish.) Canned tomato sauce burying the once subtle flavor of petrels sole. A side of unfrozen spinach thrown on a plate. Commissary food. Like you might get a govt cafeteria. The service was weird. This is not a restaurant I could ever go to again. Felicia and Luigi Petrone were not there, that is for sure. I love D'Angelo's in Beautiful downtown Mill Valley. I have been coming here since my son was an infant and he is now 27 years old. Lovely ambience. Food is really good. Love their carpaccio and their Margherita pizza. Great Caesar salad also. Just a lovely place to come with a girlfriend or romantic date. I hope they stay open for another 20 to 30 years. **UPDATE 2020** I have unfortunately noticed in the last 1-2 years that service has declined. The waiters seem surly and it almost feels like they are doing you a favor by serving you. I saw this happen at Guaymus in Tiburon before it's sad demise (I also loved Guaymus back in its early days) where the service declined significantly and nobody seemed to have their heart in the restuarant any more. Now another iconic restaurant seems to be following in its footsteps. I urge the owners to pay attention and step up. New waiters who really love serving in a lovely restaurant are needed! My previous 5 stars has now decreased to 3 stars and that is only for the food and location. This is a sad day for me. read more

We came to Piazza D'Angelo for the first time on an incredibly busy Saturday night without a reservation. We were a party of two and were seated within 30 minutes. Considering how busy it was, the service could not have been better. Everyone from the host, to our servers treated us as if we were VIP's. Not something you expect going to a busy restaurant without a reservation. Our cocktails, pizza, and dessert were exceptional. We didn't have to wait long for any part of our meal. We can't wait to come back and it's well worth the 30 minute drive to get there. You guys knocked it out of the park! read more

We had a wonderful meal last night. The gambetti app was superb. Excellent sauce and wonderfully flavorful spinach. Our server was very attentive and followed all masking protocols. There were numerous tables to chose from when we first arrived but it looked like a full house by the time we left. Spaghetti Congolese, fettuccini Verdi, veal Marsala and a Roman-style chicken dish were all perfect! We encourage everyone to visit. I have been dining at D'Angelo for about 8 years. One of the things I love about it is the consistency. Its consistency been GREAT every time. We love it for family get togethers, my parents love it and my grandparents love it. We also love to stop in at lunch time when its a little quieter and sit near the window with our toddler and get a quick bite. Everyone that works there is extremely friendly and its a very comfy vibe. I know its a family owned business and i love the real authentic Italian vibe, hard to find sometimes in CA. We really like this place! Have tried almost everything on the menu and love it. The vegetarian cream soups specials are awesome as well. Only thing we did not try are the brunch specials, we don't really do eggs. We sit at the bar and the bartender is great! Her service is impeccable, delivers every time!! Some of the best Negronis we had aside of Italy. We drive from the city almost every weekend for our "weekend lunch". The food has been very consistent,and pizzas are great as well. A local gem! I love everything about this Italian trattoria in Mill Valley. The restaurant is very cozy and the staff always welcoming. A true family restaurant where they take a lot of care and pride to make customers happy. The food is always delicious - it's authentic without being overly traditional and heavy, which most Italian restaurants in Marin tend to be. The prices are also really reasonable, a lot of value and a great spot for me to bring my family. I love their pasta dishes, my current favourite is Fettucini Con Gamberi. I also think their pizzas are one of the best-kept secrets in Marin. Wood-fired and nice thin and crispy. They also do a great job of pairing wine and food, so don't be shy to ask. The bar scene is also a lot of fun, good to catch a game or grab post dinner drinks - bartenders make some great cocktails and the wine list is always changing so can try some great Italian and Californian wines. Beautiful parklet ,wonderful service! We ordered Cesar salad and there was maybe 3 romaine leaves in it.Seriously you couldn't afford to put some lettuce in a $13 salad? We ordered the special dungeness crab pasta,horrible! It came out smelling super old fishy so I returned mine.They we're lovely about exchanging it for risotto which was a big improvement! D'Angelo's is such an amazing place to spend with family and friends. The atmosphere is always buzzing and incredibly friendly! Not sure what another reviewer was saying in regards to the service being "slow", as I am not going to this restaurant to be overturned and pushed out as I feel most restaurants do these days. The service is ALWAYS consistent and your meal is ALWAYS received within an appropriate time margin - I go here at least once every two weeks. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by someone who is always eager to make your experience a memorable one. The hostess, the wait staff, the chefs and management ALL provide wonderful customer service. This is an incredible family establishment who always strives to make your food and overall experience not just a positive one, but one that leaves you always returning. Don't just take my word for it, you definitely need to go and try it out for yourself! But that's where it stops...came here with the entire family, none of the plates that arrived had any taste, and when they did it wasn't the taste they were supposed to have. It all genuinely tasted as if it was pre-prepared frozen food, microwaved (or warmed up) and brought to the table. The number one thing is that it is large enough (it seats a lot of people) to walk in and actually get a table when all the other places in town have nothing open for the next two hours! Plus the food is great and reasonably priced. It is by no means my second choice. Here are some of my favorite items. To start I like salad. The Insalata di Fagioli is well priced and is eclectic.If I want something more substantial I go with the Fritto Misto. The salads are really exceptional here. I am not much of a pasta guy, and this restaurant has lot of other choices. For SECONDI Scaloppine di Pollo or Scaloppine Limone e Carciofi are two of my favorites. I have tried the Margherita pizza and it is delicious. My wife really enjoys the Risotto di Giorno. They also have a pretty darn good gluten free menu. The deserts are great and don't forget this place for brunch. Finally, this place can be a Mill Valley who's who. Great atmosphere, great service with a smile and fair prices. Enjoy! read more

Very fancy, tablecloth pizza restaurant! They make thin-crust specialty/artisanal/gourmet pizzas, so you won't find a "large pizza with combo toppings" here. They do have a very delicious pepperoni pizza, however. I also liked their artichoke and prosciutto pizza as well as the broccolini and sweet onion. Each pizza is about 10 inches and 6 slices. Everything tasted really good!! This isn't the kind of pizza with a bubbly crust, but it was still really chewy and tasty. I finished every last bite! read more

Second time here this year and our last. So unfortunate because while the decor and the staff are very pleasant, the food is now decidedly mediocre. We were celebrating a birthday. The bread and house pesto dip were the best elements of dining that included: - martinis ok except one of the olives had a fruit fly in it - salmon, dry on the outside, oddly mushy on the inside...how does that even happen? A first. - pasta with Bolognese sauce, meaty but dry not saucy - steak, extremely hard to cut even with their sharpest knife. My son had to cut his girlfriend's steak for her. Another first. - pizza margarita, toppings fine but the crust is no better than that of a baked frozen pizza, i.e., like a dry, thick flatbread. - beet salad way too salty - burrata with heirloom tomatoes that were the right color but totally unripe and tasteless and this is the end of a warm July when all the farmers markets in Marin have luscious ripe heirloom tomatoes. - angel hair pasta with seafood stew, the mussels and clams over-cooked but the shrimp and fish were okay My family has been coming to this restaurant for years. We love this place and family. Such a community oriented business. Sad to say, however, that the food quality has gone downhill the last two visits. During the last years quarantine we had take out a few times that was substandard, but we let it pass because of Covid. Now prices are up ( understandable) but quality is down. One of my favorite items was the insalata fagioli. It was fresh, delicious and big. Last week I got a smallish, overdressed salad with wilted lettuce and a few beans. My husband got the Kobe burger which was overcooked and dry. Had to ask several times for lemon for our water. Anyway, I will keep coming in hopes the quality picks back up with time read more

Sadly, this place is so mismanaged that it makes for a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The staff is trying, but the management overbooks the tables, and has more than doubled their floor space by extending outdoors. Staff is rushed and over-worked. Kitchen does the best job they can. I went there today with my teenage daughters and the male server with the dirty curly blonde hair was very rude! HE EVEN ADMITTED IT AND OF COURSE I AGREED! I ordered the clam shrimp linguine dish and two pizzas. He proceeded to say you really don't need two pizzas one is good enough. OK then!!!! I proceeded to ask him for warm bread to eat with the olive oil pesto sauce because the bread that I was served was hard like crouton. The male server said we don't serve warm bread and I don't even think we have a microwave. Yet they had a oven I'm sure! ? My dish with shrimp and clams tasted like chicken noodle soup. I told him that the oil that was used was rancid. Didn't even offer to redo or reorder something else. HE EVEN SQUEEZED MY BREAD with his filthy hands TO CHECK IF IT WAS HARD TOOO. OMG read more

We went to Piazza D'Angelo recently. We have frequented this restaurant for about 20 years and found it superb for service and food. Unfortunately, it was sold and has a new owner, Felicia, who needs to go to hospitality school to learn how to treat customers. We asked her to turn the loud music down, whereupon she replied: that's the music we play here. You don't need to come back. This is the second restaurant where we have had this experience. Seafood Peddler accommodated us and said, as we left, "thank you for coming." Of course, it is easy to understand which restaurant will see us returning. Finally after being prompted to get back to work, we were able to put our orders in. We got someone else's dinner and our dinners were all put in front of the wrong people. Piazza D"Angelo has been a community favorite for locals and tourists alike for a long time here in downtown Mill Valley. It is very large for little Mill Valley, with a front room and bar, a large back step-up dining room, and two good sized patio areas, plus three sidewalk tables. It is a great place to come on a weekend or evening in the summer and enjoy the weather while having some decent Italian food, almost like being in Italia except for the German luxury cars of the Marin upwardly mobile and the odd ball down to earth hippy type locals walking the square in their Berkinstocks. Only the brightly suited cyclists are similar, and some of the food here, to Italy. We had an early lunch outside on the sidewalk one weekend. Carpaccio Veneto $10.50 - i hadn't had good Carpaccio, one of my most favorite dishes, in a long time. (I used to love the one at the old Prego's on Union street in SF long time ago). This version had a nice mixture of the raw beef, dry parmesan, olive oil, capers, fresh squeezed lemon, and fresh grounded pepper. They added Arugula, which in my opinion is nice, but not necessary. So this was decent. The Gamberi Carciofi ($11.50) had large shrimp in a nice sauce, and was ok, but nothing special. The Insalata Spinacci, (spinach salad $9.50) was simple but a nice compliment to the richer Carciofi. The Capellini Pomodoro ($12.50) was purposefully simple, the way I like it, and had a nice flavor and al dente texture. A Sangiovese red wine helped balance out the meals ($9.25/glass) Piazza D'Angelo is a nice venue with decent food in a great downtown location, but somewhat overpriced for what you get. They have a wood fired brick oven for pizzas, which are pretty decent. Service was good. On weekends or after the soccer Moms get a little too much wine in them on a busy night, it can get pretty loud in here. read more

We came with 2 munchkins who ate happily as their food arrived quickly and the adults enjoyed the breads, Frito misto, poached eggs with salmon, fruti di mare, tortelloni and other items. Ahhhh, where everyone knows your name. I'm not sure if i love the fact that I don't actually have to order at Piazza D'Angelos anymore, or if I feel like Cynthia on Sex and the City where she calls the same chinese food place so much that when she calls they just ask her if she wants "the regular"? The secret to have a relatively peaceful dinner at this establishment is to be seated in the back, opposite the fireplace slightly away from the open kitchen area. The wine list isn't something I stare at for too long, but they do have a few nice glasses of Pinot Noir and Chard if that's to your liking. Billy the bartender makes a wicked strong ass lemon drop that'll knock your socks off that I adore. Yes, sometimes I pansy out and drink a martini that has sugar on the rim. Go ahead, laugh now and get it out of your system. What's funny though, is that whenever I order it, whomever I'm with looks at me strange and gives me a "you really gonna do that while I'm sittin' here with you" look, and then takes a sip of mine and ends up ordering one themselves. I recommend slightly annoying your server and asking for something not on the menu anymore for your main dish after starting with the caprese salad. Ask for the Pizza Rustica or the Spaghetti Calabrese. Both basically the same concept, one in pizza form versus pasta. Their pizza crust is good, I mean it's not Florence, Italy here, but it's really quite good. Thin and flaky at the edge, soft in the middle, so you can use your fork and knife THE WAY PIZZA IS SUPPOSED TO BE EATEN FYI!!!!!!!! Arugula, goat cheese, sundried tomatoes and olives, this pizza is great. Change that into pasta and you've got a wonderfully rich dish in front of you that leaves you wanting more. The reason a star gets taken away? That sleezy waiter that continuously hits on me every single time after I've told him no, no thank you. No I don't think so. No f*ck off. I even tried no I'm a lesbian but I think he just wanted to tell me to bring her along. The screaming ankle biters of Mill Valley do make an appearance there, so I recommend going after the little bastards have gone to bed. read more

I write this review, having patronized this restaurant about 20 times, of which about 10 have been over the last two years. A solid 4 **** star restaurant, relative to prices, were it not for very lousy service rendered by waiters who started their lives as: 1) Former dishwashers who won the heart of the owners and were promoted to waiters, but failed to acquire skills needed for hospitality/service; or 2) Italian has-beens whose overbearing attempt at being charming is as endearing as the tacky jewelry around their wrist or necks. It behooves the management and owners to get waiters who can serve, who understand basic service etiquette, who understand English, who don't roll their eyes at customer requests, who leave their charm for their second (first?) job at Pier 39. Now the food.....It is not exceptional, but it is good value. The pizzas's could use a make over as they are all about the same. The pastas are good. The risottos are better than the pastas. Anytime I have a seafood stew or soup it has been over salted. Salads are good. Solid 4 star. read more

This was my first, and very likely last, time at D'Angelo's and it was one of the most memorable meals I've had in years. I will never forget the repulsive flavors and textures of the oily pasta dish I was served. The rancid smells coming from the pizzas my dining companions received were quite impressive. There was a rotten garlic aroma interlaced with a fetid porcine stench that conjured an image of a roadkilled hog decomposing somewhere on the shoulder of the road in Gilroy. In short, the food was disgusting. I made the best effort I could to eat what I was served because I didn't want to offend my dining companions, who had invited me and were paying for the meal. However, it was quite an effort to get through the meal. All of us were smiling at each other uneasily as we forced ourselves to put the best face on the situation. It would have been comical if it wasn't for the horrible flavors happening in our mouths. Our waiter was quite good, attentive, personable. The restaurant was busy and the other patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves, so maybe they only botched all of the dishes that were brought to our table? In summary, I didn't know that there were restaurants in this day and age and in this kind of tony Marin setting that would brazenly serve such terrible food.
