Fun place in downtown Paso Robles
Bill L.

Had a great tasting with really good service. The gal pouring the wine was knowledgeable and easy to speak with. We enjoyed Pianetta and would highly recommend everyone check if out. It's not fancy inside, but they are reasonably priced and provide nice value for good wine. Check it out!

Pianetta was our first stop during our mini trip to Paso Robles 2 months ago. I loved (my daughter too as you can see in the photo) the cheese paring with the wine tasting. Unlike Los Angeles where I am from, some in-door places are open in Paso Robles but with great care for safety measures. It was a 100 degrees out so it was definitely nice to be able to enjoy the tasting indoors. I absolutely loved their selection of wine. I took home 4 bottles and already opened two.

If I only could add a few more stars, I would. This little Gem of a place is run by the Friendliest Wine maker/Owner Caitlyn Pianetta, she's the sweetest, knowledgeable person we met all day, her dog Milly was just as welcoming, oh and last but not least, Anna equally sweet and very knowledgeable. What a great experience to finish off our day of wine tasting, Caitlyn allowed us to try stuff that hasn't been bottles yet, (Cab Frank) amazing now, can't wait to taste later. Cute & clean place, great merchandise. Highly recommend you go try this little place.

We found this cute spot off of Yelp! Right when we walked in the server immediately came up to us to help us find a spot to stand/sit. She was very sweet and I'm sure she deals with tourist people all the time. Pianetta was not offering tastings when we went (a Saturday at 5pm) but their red wine by the glass was still delicious. They even had a live band which was a perfect way to end our stay in Paso Robles!

Friendly and inviting winery! These wines were more Italian style which for me is very high in alcohol however the service was really good. What made this place enjoyable was our lovely server. We paired our flights with great cheese and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. Of course, we purchased the pink jug wine as it was a must. This winery was very accommodating but not my type of vino.

First off, I love this place because it's all red wines AND the owner is a retired pilot. Being that I am also a pilot, I have to support this amazing spot! Love this tasting room, it's has a nice vibrate atmosphere with a decent amount of seating. The ladies were nice and I was able to meet the owners daughter for a quick second, as she seems to be the one running the tasting room. My favorites are definitely the Cab and the Tuscan Nights. We weren't there on a night they had an event but be sure to check out their weekly events if you're around then. And what's even better? They do happy hour glasses for $7!! Add their cheese plate onto it and you're set!!

We decided to try this tasting room in downtown Paso Robles based on my mom my mom's wine magazines and yelp reviews. It is a small store front on 13th street with ample street parking. When you walk into the tasting room you will see art from local artists, Pianetta Merchandise, and the tasting table. Pianetta is definitely known for their reds. They grow many of their grapes on their vineyard not far from the tasting room and buy a small portion of their grapes from other vineyards. Now for our tasting experience. Our server was very new and still being trained and I could tell she was a bit nervous in working with us. She was nice, so it wasn't really a problem and if she was ever super unsure she asked another person working with her to help. There was a $5 per person tasting fee (waived if wine purchased) and the flight included all red wines. I was able to taste the following 2009 Pianette Barbera 2008 Pianetta Estate Cabernet 2008 Pianette Esate Syrah* 2008 Pianetta Petite Syrah 2008 Pianetta Estate Bilancio* 2008 Pianetta Tuscan Nights * Preferred from the list From their list I was more partial to their Syrahs (the Bilancio was a blend of Syrah and Cabernet). In general I didn't care for the wines because most of them were spicy and peppery. If that is what you like this may be the place for you. I left a little underwhelmed and I don't think I'll be going back if I visit in the future. Overall it was an okay experience. If I were to come back to the area for a future vacation, I think I would try some of the other tasting rooms.

Cheese flight. The Fromager Blue D'Affnois was delish!

I explained I had been to a few other wineries on the San Miguel side and he said, you know, we're part of the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail (13 wineries on the San Miguel side). I didn't even know about that, but come to find out some of the wineries I previously visited were part of the trail. I was thankful to Pedro for this, as it helped me plan out the rest of that day on the trail. This particular trip to Paso was a few days before the Labor Day holiday weekend. I wanted to get away, but also wanted to be as safe as possible, by going at a time where I felt there would be fewer people. In the morning a few hours before my visit, Vicky called to confirm my appointment. I appreciated that and I'm sure she did too. Vino Vargas is on the far end of the trail, so it's a little bit of the beaten path, but so worth it. Because appointments are highly recommended during this time of COVID, I happened to be fortunate enough to be the only one at the winery at that time. It was such a great experience. I was able to have a great (socially distanced) conversation with Vicky. Learned so much about her and Pedro's wine-making journey, and the wines they make. I suspect it's not something that would happen with much regularity on any non-COVID style scenario where tasting rooms are typically full or busy. The wines were also delicious. I'm not much of a white wine drinker, so I passed on that option on the tasting menu and went straight for the reds. I wound up buying four bottles - 2017 Toro Tinto Tempranillo, 2016 Rio Ruso Pinot Noir, 2017 El Taxi Cabernet, and Paso Rosa Rosé Dessert Wine. I was very luck to have gotten one of the very last bottles of the Paso Rosa and I was thrilled, because it is absolutely delicious. If you can make Vino Vargas part of your Paso Robles adventure, I would highly recommend it. Pedro and Vicky are the nicest and so love what they do. Their wines speak so much about the care they take in making them.

We planned a trip to see his farm on the last day of our trip. I sadly can't drink right now, so what else is there to do outside of family activities and wineries? Olive oil farming! It was a great way to end our time on the central coast. Richard started by telling us about his story of becoming the Olive oil man. He helped us learn about Olive trees (we had brought a branch from our tree), the olives themselves, and the milling process. He brought us into his tasting room, and we tried various oils and a vinegar, as wells as a few flavor pairings. We really have a new appreciation for not only olives, Olive oils, and farming, but Richard and smaller, non-commercial farmers. Every bottle is a labor of love crafted by him, his wife, and even his dog. The visit felt like we had visited an uncle, and we did buy oils (he definitely doesn't ask you to, but after tasting then and knowing the process, you definitely want to.) We were going to send some as gifts, but it's hard to appreciate something as much unless you've experienced it. We experienced the San Miguel Olive Farm and we're better for it. Thanks again Richard! We definitely will try to come up one October to experience the harvesting to complete the journey.

It is owned and operated by Mr. Dennis Degher, a kind experienced gentleman who knows how to show his guests a nice time. Wine tasting is $30 per person, waived with the purchase of wine. Wine tasting is by appointment only. We made an 11 am appointment for a Thursday morning. There is an automatic gate at the bottom of the hill and you call to have it opened when you arrive. Mr. Degher greeted us when we arrived at the top of the hill. He has an indoor and outdoor tasting area. It was such a beautiful morning, we did our tasting on the patio outdoors. We tried several wines, including a Viognier, Chardonnay, a couple grenaches, a few cab blends, and a beautiful unfiltered port. All the wines we tried were very good. After tasting wine, Mr. Degher took us for stroll around his property. He gave us cuttings of rosemary, lavender, oregano, and bay leaf. We bought 4 bottles of wine, which waived our tasting fee. Mr. Degher is also an accomplished musician who has composed and performed many songs, which he has recorded and can be purchased on CD. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this beautiful little gem at the top of the hill!
