A security guard's primary role is to protect private property and individuals. Security guards typically only have the power to detain suspects until police arrive.
In the case of a beloved dog, named Diamond, the actions of an employee of Phoenix Security Hawaii did not meet the basic expectations. Unfortunately, this resulted in an upsetting situation that could have been avoided if the person cooperated by doing the right thing- returning someone's property, in this case, Diamond .
Diamond is a neighborhood friendly pet. On Friday, 01/17/2025, Diamond was nowhere in sight in the afternoon. Several days later, on 01/21/2025, we obtained security surveillance footage showing a person taking Diamond from Republican Street. We noticed the Security Guard Uniform and went immediately to Phoenix Security Hawaii on 286 Kalihi Street, Honolulu. The staff at the front desk of Phoenix Security Hawaii viewed the security footage and said they know who has Diamond and they will call "her" to bring Diamond back to following day. The staff said, Diamond is a cute dog and she's being well taken cared of, and their co-worker will bring Diamond back the next day. Well, several hours later, the story changed... the staff said the person who had Diamond didn't have space in her home and so she gave Diamond to her "landlord". Then to make along story short, HPD got involved and the following day, Diamond was still NOT home.
This entire situation is particularly troubling because the guard failed to perform even the most basic aspects of her role, DOING WHAT IS RIGHT. Securing property for safety reasons is one thing, but not retuning the pet or property to the rightful owners is another thing!
In summary, my experience with Phoenix Security Hawaii was disappointing and left me questioning the company's commitment to providing quality services. I would strongly recommend that they revisit their hiring and training practices to include training on INTEGRITY.
