I just imported an Acty van from Japan and was looking for a solid alarm system. I stopped by Security & Sound Systems shortly after they opened, and Kent greeted me right as I parked. I told him what I needed, and we walked over to my van to take a look. I have a newer 3rd-gen Acty--maybe one of the first on the island--and Kent took his time inspecting the interior to understand how the locks and windows worked. He was incredibly thorough, checking every door and window carefully. I was a little concerned about drilling into the van or interior panels, but he explained how their alarm systems are installed and even brought out some parts to show me. That helped me decide where things could be mounted to keep everything as clean and minimal as possible. I also mentioned that when I first got the van, all the doors used to lock/unlock with the key, but they randomly stopped working. He said he could take a look at that too. Kent walked me through all the different alarm options and recommended the best one for my specific setup, especially considering the van is over 25 years old. I wanted something high-quality, and he got me set up with a 2-way alarm system and the mobile app add-on with GPS tracking. Someone had missed their appointment that morning, and he was able to get me in the same day! Not only did they install the alarm, but they also fixed my power door locks--now I can lock and unlock all my doors (including the trunk) with the remote. The install was super clean: no holes, no visible wires. 10 out of 10--highly recommend. I have a vintage rod, as I've been roddin' since my dayz out of high school. Well, fast forward to April 2023 when I got rear-ended in Waikiki by a dumdum as I sat at a red light, as he was going 25 mph.  Uninsured jerk tore up my rear bumper and broke the custom rear bumper back-up camera. I went to see the team at Security and Sound Systems after Allstate shortly after I got the car fixed by my maintenance folks.  Kent and his team were able to install an awesome after market camera onto my spare tire rim that has been working BETTER than the previous camera. Actually went to these guys over a decade ago for a double-din (remember those?) touchscreen setup two trucks ago. Needed dash cams for my wife's car and happy to find out these guys are still around, which says something in and of itself. Almost got ran off the road so decided to get a dash cam. My boy told me to check out Kent at security & sound and they didn't disappoint. Kent also helped me pick out the perfect deck for my car too since it was a very old one and kinda broken lol. Accurate quote and threw in a few extra touches to make the thing look stock. They have a sign business to so they can fabricate stuff to blend into your cars look. They slid me in right away and it was done in a fast and neat fashion. If you have issues with any sensors in your car, I highly suggest visiting Security & Sound Systems to fix them. My car's rear backup sensor had snapped off from the car ceiling. I thought it'd be a complicated process to find and request a new sensor, but Security & Sound Systems had the issue resolved within minutes of arrival! I've been a customer of Security & Sound Systems since my first college car. That was a long, long time ago. And Kent has been there the whole time, crouched behind the counter of an unassuming space under a walk-up apartment building. I once spent more on speaker upgrades than I did on the car that I put them in. When Apple Car Play became a thing, I went to Kent to put a basic Pioneer aftermarket head unit in my 2013 Mazda. As a Mililani to town daily commuter, it was probably the best investment I made in my car. So when I got a 2017 Honda, he set me up with a Wireless CarPlay unit from Kenwood. I asked for the most basic model, but since he only had the one-step-up in stock, he put that in for the same price. The install techs, I'm sure, are great people, but it's Kent's low-key style, local vibe, and knowledge of car tech that makes the difference. When I get my next car in 10 years, I'd like to think Kent and Security & Sound Systems will still be there. read more

The technician had a couple questions that I couldn't answer, so they were very patient with me while I had to get ahold of my husband over the phone. We were looking to upgrade our car stereo with Android Auto / CarPlay and Kent not only responded to quote requests on Yelp quickly, he was a delight to interact with in-store, as he showed a variety of systems (with your own phone connected to demo systems), demonstrated the features, and make thoughtful recommendations based on what we're looking for. We haven't bought a system yet (since we're looking at the more expensive Alpine option with a bigger screen - we're saving money!!), but Kent is definitely the guy we would like to work with in the future when we are able! I installed a back up camera back in 2019. Because of my clumsy fingers I did something to select the wrong modality and I could not see from my camera which I knocked off while washing my car. Kent told me to bring my car in and Jared fixed it. They didn't charge me but they said they stand by their products. I am so pleased with the work. I thought because I had this done awhile ago they would not look at it. I was so pleased with Kent and Jared. I can see my back up camera and they repositioned it and Jarred taught me other things about my car I didn't know I had. I highly recommend their service and their products. I was going to buy a new camera from another dealer but I decided to take it back to where I had it installed. I wanted to tip them but this yelp meant more to them than a tip.
