I visited Progressive Auto Sounds for my Camry. Although I didn't know what I wanted, having only had some speakers and a head unit installed in my old Civic, Bill walked me through a number of options. He explained the sound quality and how I would notice it for each option, and he priced a system based on what I explained as my listening type and volume goals. The system that Bill built was an amp and sub tied into my factory radio, and it came in well under my expected cost. Unfortunately, the amp (Kenwood X502) that Bill priced was on backorder, and after giving it a couple of weeks I asked Bill if there was another setup that would accomplish the same thing without too much of a price increase. He priced a different system (using JL Audio amp/sub) that was a couple hundred dollars more than the first system, with higher output on the amp and most of the other features we had discussed being the same. I asked him when he could install the system and he gave me a same-day slot. After installing the system, he let me try out a couple of different sized subs to ensure that I got the sound that I wanted. All told, the system was $1,800 including all parts and labor, and I am very pleased with the sound of the system. The way that Bill took time to explain the differences in the options and to make it easy to understand for a non-technical person like me was a huge relief. I priced the parts that Bill included in the build and his prices are actually cheaper than what I could find online. I'd like to to think I'm a car enthusiast and I've enjoyed the little things I've done to my car (lowering springs, wheel spacers, resonator delete) but I don't know anything about car audio. As I've been fortunate to have been working through this ongoing pandemic, I decided I wanted to look into the possibility of upgrading my stock stereo system somehow. Now I listen to a variety of music in my car (80s Rock, 90s Hip Hop, EDM, movie score soundtracks, piano compositions) and I had noticed I usually have the volume up 3/4 to max level almost all the time and some songs I would want it a little louder but it would already be maxed out. So I began to send out YELP messages/emails/called a few of the local car audio shops on island to inquire. Then i received an email from Bill and I was immediately impressed with his knowledge. He helped steer me in what I should be thinking of in terms of the car audio experience in my car. He even suggested I try free trial/upgrading to Amazon HD first to really test out the sound quality in my car....and this was all before I had the chance to visit in person. When I did come in person a few days later, Bill took the time to actually listen to some songs in my car and pointed out that my Audi's system was already pretty good and recommended a 10" ported JL Audio Microsub+ that would provide the missing low end bass I was looking for. I agreed and I was able to schedule for install about a week later. So on install day, I drop off my car and the guys started on my car immediately. Bill actually offers a loaner vehicle for you to use during the install so I happily obliged and it was nice to go out and kill time/have lunch while I waited. Install was complete actually earlier than I had anticipated and I drove back to the shop excited to try out the new sub! Once I tried it out, I was blown away!! The JL Audio amplified sub was everything I had been missing in my system plus more!! Hahaha. Super impressed with JL Audio and Bill and his team at Progressive Auto Sounds. Smooth process through and through ( communication, customer service, professional install ) and not once did I feel like I was being upsold to something I really didn't need in my car in terms of my listening experience. These guys really know their stuff when it comes to sounds or car alarms or what I came in for - dash cams. I bought my own dash cam and they installed it for me for a labor charge. They didn't carry the one I wanted but I bought mine on Amazon and it was a popular dash cam so they knew everything about it and were able to do it quickly. They are friendly, patient, and they have been around forever. They have really cute dogs too. They will give you some advice as well if you need it because I came in several times before I decided to have them do my install. read more

We needed a reverse sensor installed and one of the business in the area recommended Progressive Auto Sounds. They did a great job, and the price was very reasonable. If you don't mind not matching the sensors to the color of your car, you can get the service done for less than $400, but if you want color match it cost you an extra $100 I believe. After checking out couple shops and getting some information and prices. My third stop was progressive auto sound coming from Mililani. If I knew what I know now, it would have been my first and only stop. The owner Bill was very knowledgeable and didn't try and sell me anything I didn't need. You should always believe in "Cry once, buy once" I would like to thank Bill for his sharp knowledge and his awesome crew for the great customer service and installation. Bill gave me a lecture about alarm systems that I didn't even know about and I was real amazed. I came in to get my aftermarket alarm redone and upgraded because I wasn't to happy with an install from a previous shop I had done work with. I had a Viper DS4+ installed with remote start and GPS and it worked great and the install was clean and done properly. I purchased a Viper car alarm in 2015, and its worked without a hitch...until recently, and I thought I might've put it in valet mode, and couldn't find my owners manual etc. The alarm still locked my vehicle, but I called Progressive auto sounds, Aiea, and spoke with Bill. Customer Service is truly a lost art, but Bill, Sherwin, Dawson, and the team understand what it means to service the customer. It's not about seeing how much money they can get out of someone, it's about interpreting what the customer wants and how to get there at the best price possible. Tesla's are notoriously finicky vehicles to work on, yet Bill made sure he fully understood the ramifications of what changing/adding different speakers, amps, etc. would do to the system. He took the time to determine that a truly great system relying on MP3 music wasn't going to cut it, so he ensured that an HD Audio source was put in, AND he took the time to explain it to me in terms that I would understand (he didn't just go all "propeller head" on me). I have watched him interact with other customers making sure each and every one of them felt as special as I did, and that they understood the products and how to use them, not just putting product in and letting the customers have to figure it out for themselves. Not just with me, but with other customers as well, I saw how Bill would actually DOWNSELL products that were overkill for what the customer wanted so that they wouldn't overspend. Awesome customer service from Bill and the crew. Bill help me plan out my next build for my 2020 Tacoma with the difficult JBL premium sound system. I gave them a big list and they were able to turn my vision into reality. I wanted to keep the stock deck that already came with andriod auto/car play, but with addition to speaker clarity and bass. They built a custom box in house. Relocated and rewired to fit a big system into a truck that can still seat 5. Were able to make connections that are plug and play with minimal cutting. Took my Jeep to Progressive after a crappy install done by another shop (Elite on the Kam). 1.) The 1st shop left gaps between the deck and mounting kit. The 1st shop also left gaps on the dash when they put it back together. 2.)Progressive pulled out the Clarion double din I was having issues with, replaced it with a Kenwood "dd" and did an awesome job putting everything back together. 3.)The owner was very informative about the Kenwood I took to them & gave me insight into new ways to listen to music on the new system. Bill is a very down to Earth guy who knows car audio and electronics. He follows groups online, (ie. a group that has run into speed bumps, like how manufacturers use Active Noise Cancellation, which is causing problems in certain newer model vehicle installs) and it helps him take his work to the next level. He shows his customers websites and lets them know the possibilities and the reality of it all, and it just shows that he is thinking of every aspect of an install before they even open the car panels up and start routing wires. I visited a few shops 2 weeks ago just to look around. I was impressed with the cleanliness and order kept in Progressive. One shop has speaker and amp boxes covering every square inch and was a cluttered dusty mess. After talking to Bill a while and sampling subs, I told him I only wanted a single 10 to add bass. He suggested a few, then went one step further and told me to pull up and put the box in my trunk and turn on the radio to 102.7, while powering the sub from his shop on the same radio station. It's been 10 years since I've had a subwoofer in my car and being able to hear it in my car really put a smile on my face. I was surprised how a single JL 10W3 in a ported box ended up sounding like two 12's sealed. I was lucky they had an opening the next week, I scheduled it right away. They are booked solid for a few weeks so I was really lucky someone changed dates. I ended up getting an HO112RG-W3v3 with an XD600 amp. He never pressured to upsell me, and when I told him I am coming back for door speakers he taught me how to use the switch board and I spent most of the install time sampling everything in my price range. I am sold on two above my range so I'll definitely save up for it. I can't wait to start phase 2 and go back and have separates added, then phase 3 for a DVD in-dash added as well. read more

I've known Bill for many years; great guy! Always looking out for the customer's best interests and gives easily understandable recommendations and opinions. Recently had his team upgrade they system in my Corolla. I'm way past my "turn up the radio" and "pound the sounds" years. I just wanted something that would sound good at medium volume. Bill upgraded the deck, all stock speakers, and added a powered sub. I really enjoy the sound-and being able to adjust the sub output with a dial versus EQ... awesome. I added a rear view camera that syncs with the deck and a few other small things; all in all a great install and great sounding small system. I'm sure other shops do great installs, but I will always take my cars to Progressive Auto Sounds. And occasionally, I'll buy a pair of Oakleys when I need to upgrade. I had to really think about how to write this review, as I hate leaving negative ratings, but here is the story: I bought a new Tacoma, and shopped around for a car alarm at a decent price. Progressive had the best deal, so I chose them. The owner was friendly and told me what I needed to know, showed me features I didn't even know I had, helped me find the best alarm for my needs...and best of all I was able to use their loaner car for the day! They installed the alarm on time, everything worked awesome, and I was happy with the whole deal. So for all this, I give them 5 stars. Fast forward a few months, everything was fine. Then, last month (Nov 18) I went to the beach and plugged in my small electric air pump in the rear 110V outlet, and there's no electricity! I checked the main power switch on the dash, and no light. I popped the hood and checked all the fuses, nothing was blown. So now, instead of enjoying my day at the beach, I got my head under the hood of the truck trying to figure out what's wrong. Next day I get a call that the truck is fixed, so I take off from work again, head to Servco, and I ask was was wrong with the 110V outlet. He says "Did you have a car alarm installed?" I say yes, and he replies "Well, whoever did it didn't reattach the wire for the 110V power button behind your dash." What? So, how do I review this place? I was happy with the price, the install, the free loaner, the alarm, so for all those I would give a 5-star review. However, since the tech forgot to reattach an important wire behind the dash when they installed the alarm, and caused me to take time away from work and generally be a pain is the axx, I can't. Update:-------10 Dec 18-------------------- After I posted the review, the owner reached out to me and was very apologetic and offered to pay for Servco and Uber, which I declined to accept. (I feel that after writing a review, a customer shouldn't take any reimbursement offers which could affect the integrity of the review, and lead to other people writing bad reviews for no reason, in the hope of getting something for free.) Anyway, he was very apologetic and admitted the mistake, and that they would fix the issue in the future with their "before and after checklist", so he gets points for that. Yes, it was an honest mistake, and normally I wouldn't have been upset. In a way, it was a little bit my fault, as I let so much time go by before actually testing everything. If it had occurred right away, I would have assumed it was the alarm, and had gone back. (I know how my luck is, and this is a classic case of it. I should have known better and made sure everything worked before I left, from past experiences. I seem to always be the one guy who, after hundreds of perfect installations, ends up with the one faulty job.
