I ordered for delivery and I got myself the Viet Dip and the Salt & Pepper Chicken Skins. The Viet Dip was packed with flavor, juicy, and held up surprisingly well even as delivery-- it was good but to be completely honest, it just wasn't my thing. I don't think I'd order it again but to be fair, I typically don't like dip sandwiches. I always like to give them a try. The chicken skins on the other hand were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and hella addictive. Even without dining in, the food spoke for itself. I can only imagine it's even better fresh at the restaurant. read more

I've eaten a lot of pho in my day, even in Vietnam, and I can honestly say this is some of the most authentic-tasting, flavorful pho I've had since actually being in Vietnam. The depth and complexity of the broth was well-worth the stop for me. I was tempted to get their famous Viet-Dip, which is their version of a Vietnamese-style french dip (banh mi). I saw people get it at the tables next to us, and it looked and smelled pretty fantastic. I would definitely try this place again just to try it. The ordering system was quick and easy - you order through your phone and they bring the food out to your table. We got our food in a timely manner. Staff was kind and accommodating. I definitely recommend Phodega for anyone craving pho in the area! read more

Yummy! Favorite neighborhood spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Interior is super cute and looks like something straight out of an anime cartoon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I always get the Marinated Pork Belly Banh Mi sandwich (you can remove jalapeños and aioli if you can't take spicy or garlicky) and the Combination Chicken Rice Dish that comes with a side of soup. Squeeze some lime juice to everything and get a side of jalapeños for some extra side crunch and it's the perfect combination! 10/10 read more

I really underestimated the quality of food Phodega has! I got the beef Pho and it is comparable to some of the better Pho I've had in Westminster, OC. The serving sizes were decent, and I loved the choice of having flatter noodles. The combination of multiple types of beef were also much appreciated. The Viet Dip, while an interesting concept, did not wow me as much. But that might just be because I don't like soggy bread. I wouldn't recommend any other place the morning after a late night out! read more

I see this place pop up all the time and yet I'm still not sure why it took me so long to try it out. I place an order online for pickup. I ordered two Spicy chicken Banh Mi sandwiches and their The Viet Dip. The guy working the counter was very welcoming and friendly and my order was ready on time. The spicy chicken Banh Mu was really delicious. The sandwich came with fried chicken, hainan hot sauce, jalapeños, slaw and cucumbers. The chicken was fried perfectly and overall a very flavorful sandwich. I had the Viet Dip. It came with thinly sliced ribeye, cilantro, onion (lots of onion), and pho jus to dip your sandwich in. The sandwich was really good but it just had way too many onions. I had to take most of them off, making my sandwich very thin but it was still good. It's like a Vietnamese Italian beef pho in a sandwich. Ita-Viet Pho Beef Sandwich. Will definitely be returning. read more

My wife and I went in with high hopes after seeing so many positive videos online, but left a bit underwhelmed. We stopped by Phodega after shopping in the area and ordered the Viet Dip and the Pho Loco Cheeseburger. Unfortunately, both dishes fell short: the Viet Dip was overly salty (both the sandwich and the jus), and the bun on the Pho Loco Cheeseburger fell apart quickly. On the plus side, the vibe is great and the staff is friendly, but overall the food didn't quite live up to the hype. read more

Phodega always hits the spot! The pho beef comes in a big portion and is absolutely delicious. I've dined in once and ordered a few times through UberEats, The broth is always so flavorful. I've also tried both boiled, fried chicken and rice, Personally, I love the boiled chicken, but my boyfriend swears by the fried chicken. The price are very reasonable for this quality of food. Yum yum yummy. I went January 1st because I know pho is perfect hangover food and let me tell you phodega did not disappoint. We were a table of four and although it was packed got a seat in pretty good time! I got the beef pho, so did everyone at my table, and it was pretty good, besides the meatballs which were a bit tough. Serves me right for straying from my usual chicken pho. The one thing I didn't love was the ordering process. It was all online- no menu, just a barcode. The only time our server saw us was bringing us our food. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like to have a real menu! And chat! What if someone doesn't have a phone, they can't order? So, if you want amazing pho from this place, remember to bring your phone. read more

I ordered takeout at phodega on a cold December night and it hit the spot. Offering your favorite Vietnamese dishes from pho, rice dishes, banh mi, and a great appetizer menu. Ordering online was a breeze and I didn't have to wait too long for my food. I got the viet dip which is their take on an Italian beef with a vietamnese twist. Sliced ribeye, cilantro, onion, jalapeños, with a side au jus. It has a little bit of heat to the sandwich but overall very delicious. A great spot to get vietamnese in the wicker park neighborhood. read more

The store was bigger than I was expecting. Very cute setup with a fun display of snacks. The noodle portions were large with lots of fresh veggies. They also have takeout Tupperware for self service. I ended up packing half my noodles before digging in because there was so much food. The way they pack everything makes sense that they have great takeout. The pizza puff was like a crispy calzone. It came out hot and fresh. Would love to come back and try their wings. read more

I live in Los Angeles where we have excellent Asian food of all kinds, Vietnamese included. So I was excited to try Phodega after reading the great reviews. But Yelp did me wrong this time. We ordered thru Postmates, & were impressed that the Pho Bo beef broth arrived blazing hot. The bag of bean sprouts, basil & lime wedge and separate bowl of noodles were a good portion. But the square slices of beef were very hard & dry, & the broth was not as flavorful with spices as I have had. Plus we're accustomed to very rare thin slices of beef in Pho Bo - that cook when you combine it with hot broth, to whatever degree you want. The thin sliced meat was in the hot broth & already fully cooked. The meatballs were the standard bouncy ones. We also tried a side of the Chicken Rice. The rice grains were hard, even after we warmed it up, was overpoweringly garlicky, & didn't taste chickeny. The worst item was the Viet Dip. It was only thinly sliced beef, raw onions, a slice of jalapeno, & parsley on a roll. It was so heavily stuffed with bitingly strong raw white onions, that it was beyond offensive. We had to remove the onions completely. The dipping sauce looked meaty & promising, but it was so overly salty that even a slight dip of the bread into it made it a salt bomb. The good things were the packaging & the food temperature. I really wanted to like it, but unfortunately I don't think this is good Vietnamese food. read more

Decent fusion Viet spot in Wicker Park. I wouldn't come here for traditional flavors, but this is definitely fusion done right! Oxtail pho: 3.5/5; oxtail was cooked to perfection. I love wife pho noodles but it could have been cooked a bit more. The broth lacked flavors for me, and was basically bland after the bean sprouts were added. Viet dip: 5/5; amazing fusion concept. Don't drink the broth by itself since it's pretty salty but it perfectly complements the sandwich. The bread was perfectly soft on the inside and crunchy without scratching the top of mouth. I can see why this is the best seller. Not pictured: salt and pepper chicken skin; 5/5. The skin traveled so well. We ended up taking some home and it was still crunchy 5 hours later! Love the dipping sauce, which has the perfect mix of spicy, sweet and sour. read more

Stopped by on a rainy day to fulfill a pho craving. The restaurant has a small snack section, colorful signs and lights, with a limited amount of seating. The menu has a good number of options, such as pho, sandwiches, and appetizers. We ordered the pho bo, viet dip, and spicy salt and pepper chicken wings. My personal favorite was the chicken wings, which were tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. They were well fried, crispy, and tender! I found the pho bo to be disappointing as the broth was too light, bland, flat, lacking the traditional tastes and spices of pho. I also wished there were more ribeye than meatballs. The noodles are thicker than the traditional pho noodles. Similarly, the viet dip sandwich was not as flavorful as I expected. They are generous with the amount of ribeye, but rather soft in flavors. I didn't find their pho worth visiting again, but glad I had the chance to try Phodega. read more

It took me way too long to finally try Phodega, but it was absolutely worth the wait. The vibe is super cool, kind of like a bodega-meets-pho-spot, with great energy and personality throughout. I ordered the pho bo, crispy chicken skins, shrimp eggrolls, and the Viet dip and all of it was delicious and hit the spot. Everything was reasonably priced, and the indoor and outdoor seating options made it easy to relax. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and even the snack selection was on point. Prior to visiting Chicago I had a list of places I wanted to go, and this was on my list. But as we were in town for only a few days, and it didn't seem like we would be close to this location. However, to my surprise I had bookedat the Chicago bathhouse which was next-door. After my spa treatment, I went over to grab some food on the run as we were heading to the airport. We got the spicy pork dumplings, beef pho and a pork belly bahn mi. As we walked in, we put our order in and we're able to enjoy some great music as we waited for food to be ready. As we walked to the car, we immediately devoured the dumplings which were delicious. As we went to refuel our rental car. We decided to eat the pho and the sandwich. I will start with the sandwich, which was amazing. Great flavor perfect texture on the bread. It was one of my friends first time trying it and she fell in love. The pho was good. It probably would've been better if we ate it at the location as it wasn't as hot as I know it would've been. But it had a great flavor profile and the beef was tender. Definitely some of my favorite bites in Chicago and I will definitely be back to try more in-house and enjoy the vibe read more

TLDR: So. Much. Yes. Nice warm hug in my belly. I've been meaning to try this place for several years and finally convinced my bf to come with me. He was so not in the mood for pho but quickly changed his mind after a couple of bites of the Pho Bo. Love the generous portions of bean sprouts and cilantro they gave us. The soft crunch of the bean sprouts adds such a lovely texture. The pho comes out in a big bowl--but I still managed to eat it all... bc I couldn't stop myself. Don't snooze on the spring rolls either! They were super crispy and cronchy. Definitely fried to perfection! We loved it here so much that we ordered a Fried Chicken Rice and a Chicken Rice to go! (It was for dinner, I swear!) I'd 100% come back to try their other pho and the wings! Tip: Seating is limited so come early! read more

Can't stop thinking about this place after a recommendation from a friend! It has a great quick to order friendly service from the cashier who was so sweet and nice offering us the best food recs and handing us stickers and candy as we left. But the viet dip banh mi blew me out of the water with how flavor punched a sandwich can be and even more flavor once you dip it in the pho broth. THE VIET DIP WAS IMPECCABLE 5/5 best banh mi I have had before and totally worth it anytime you are around the area. Can't wait to come back and try their pho and Hanan style chicken and rice! Specifically love the bahn mi dip. That's what they're known for, and for good reason. The jus is like a pho broth but much richer and more flavorful, and it makes the otherwise kind of meh sandwich a culinary experience. Highly recommend. Everything else is okay! read more

This restaurant is very cute and intimate inside. They have many international snacks and drinks for sale. It was a more casual-dining experience which was what we were looking for. The food was fantastic. The pho was delicious and big portions. The price was very reasonable. We got their wings as well which were flavorful and crunchy. I will definitely return or get takeout. This is NOT the Viet Dip they advertise. The photos and videos show a sandwich stuffed with meat, but what I got was mostly bread. For $13.99 before tax and delivery, it feels like false advertising. To make it worse, it was drowning in mayo and raw white onions, completely killing the flavor. Total disappointment. read more

Remember to bring bug spray as in the summer, there are small mosquitos that might try to bite! This place is known for their pho, but I ordered a Hainanese chicken rice plate. The soup it came with was quite salty, and the chicken was often a bit dry. However, the flavors were still great. My friend got the pho and it was much better! read more

Phodega has my ultimate comfort food: Hainan chicken, fried chicken, white rice cooked in chicken fat, and beef pho. I usually like scallion-ginger oil over my Hainan chicken, but Phodega uses a ginger-garlic sauce. The fried chicken is very crispy. The white rice is so flavorful after being cooked in chicken fat; whoever thought of this idea is a genius. The beef pho comes with both sliced ribeye and beef meatballs. The portions are big. I was definitely full afterwards. They also have Asian sodas...the ones that are full of high frustose corn syrup and artificial flavors...but those are still considered comfort food in my book. read more

I've been here several times and it is one of m family's go to spots, so it's time to write a review! I've been coming here since they had their first location and we were glad that it didn't move too far. I crave the beef pho from here - the broth is perfectly aromatic and delicious and the beef and brisket portions are pretty generous! The staff are always extremely friendly and accommodating and I always feel very welcome and comfortable when I visit. There is also a nice vibe and good music in the place. I always want to try different meals when I go, but I always end up ordering the beef pho. They also serve fun snacks and drinks at the register. I will be back soon! Super cute place, they have a variety of snacks for sale (must get the strawberry KitKats) I placed an order for pickup and it was ready within 15 minutes. Staff was super friendly! I got the phodega fries to start, these are amazing, cilantro, onion, jalapeño and brisket, the perfect combo. So refreshing! For my main I got the pho bo. Huge portions. Was visiting Chicago and decided to check this place out. It's a small restaurant and you can place your order at the register or on your phone by scanning the QR code at the table. We ordered a pho and the chicken rice with both fried/hainan chicken. The pho was okay. It lacked the umami flavor we were hoping for but still good on a cold day. The chicken rice itself was good and had good flavor, but the chicken could have a been bit more juicier. I also didn't love the dipping sides that it came with but that might be personal preference. It also comes with a small bowl of soup. Service was nice and would stop by if I was in the area again, but wouldn't go out of my way. read more

I've been twice now and everything I've gotten has been so good. The first time, I got the phodega fries and the gravy it came with was to die for. This time around I chose the viet dip because just the thought of pho in sandwich form really intrigued me. Also I highly recommend their fries because they are so crispy! Tried this spot with some friends during dinner and I got the fried Chicken Rice! It was really packed inside since it was raining so the outdoor seating was closed off. Otherwise the outdoor patio is cute for warmer weather! Anyways. You order at the register and try to snag an open table. The workers are super chill and kind here. However, it's still a really great option when you want a quick and casual meal before hitting up a tea shop or grabbing dessert in the area. The star was the actual rice, which I could eat a bowl of on its own. The sauces were good, with the ginger sauce being really refreshing and the soy having a nice touch of sweetness. I'd get it again but I think I'd try something else next time. We also got drinks. My sister was super happy with her Thai tea, and I pretty much inhaled my jasmine milk tea. It's worth a visit if you're down in the food court.

The tofu is delicious - crispy outside with soft and silky center - chef's kiss! 3) String bean mixed with balacan - balacan is a Malaysian sambal sauce made with shrimp paste and chili. Daily special of the bone marrow bacon jam toast - glazed, slippery off the bone, savory and sweet. Always love a good bone marrow dish to get the sweetness off it. This was so good that there were bits of the marrow and jam left stuck to the bone, I took a piece of the toast and scooped the bone dry. Nothing left for anyone to attack this. Non pork dishes were the Mushroom 3 ways and Spanish octopus. Mushroom dish was savory with all the coated sauces elevating this. Spanish octopus was kicked lightly and easily can bite in to enjoy the tender and charred portions. But the award went to my main course - the braised pork shoulder with saffron, apricots and Swiss chard. Aside from the rippable pork meat when dining on it, the sauces fused together on this dish elevated it and had everyone coming back for more. I needed an official Chicago culinary experience and found it at The Purple Pig without a doubt.

Walk into Phodega on Division, and the first thing that hits you isn't marketing jargon--it's the intoxicating, clear aroma of beef bone broth, star anise, and the distinct sizzle of chicken fat. It is a metropolitan sanctuary of high-fidelity flavor. The Pho Bo arrives unapologetically hot, boasting rare sliced ribeye, brisket, and beef meatballs swimming in a broth so profoundly deep it feels like an emotional reset button. But the real street-level poetry is found in The Viet Dip--a brilliant, messy hybrid of thinly sliced ribeye, jalapeños, and homemade aioli on French bread, served with a side of rich pho jus for dipping. It is absolute genius, completely devoid of pretense. The real Sunday move, however, happens outside, out front. Okay, so I was on a road trip, seriously craving some chicken and rice. I hit up Yelp, and this spot in Chicago popped right up. Let me tell you, it was totally worth the pit stop! The food was top-notch, super unique, and honestly, a total hit for me. My absolute favorite was the fried chicken! I had the khao soy (egg noodles, sliced chicken, coconut curry, and topped with crispy egg noodles, sliced onions, and lime). The flavor was decent but the chicken was dry. Hubby had the pad Thai (thin rice noodles, chicken, bean sprouts, eggs, green onion, ground peanuts, tamarind sauce) which was pretty small to his dismay. He wasn't full after his meal so he finished the rest of mine. However, the menu prices are reasonable.

These were meant to be generic examples) Oh, how times have changed. I would have never thought having a bowl of ramen at a Monster Ramen would give me this much pleasure. Part of it will (in fact, most of it) be on me and my general philosophy on fusion cuisine and outdated gemerational gap. There was definitely a time when avoiding agorementioned type of restaurants may have been deemed smart. But I feel the new generation of restaurant owners and chefs have up'd their games in not only at better food making, but also accepting of a bit more irony. Anyone who knows me knows how much I stay away from trying anything "fusion." It's kinda funny to myself how hypocritical it is that I would be totally okay in substituting an ingredient or two when I'm missing some when cooking, but when it comes to paying money to sit and eat that I would judge chefs by thier style of cooking. Yes, a big part of it is based on a large pool of personally gathered data, but I do acknowledge that I need to open myself up a bit more. Case in point. I was recommended MR by a fellow Yelper and I decided to give it a whirl. I happened to have a friend and his son with me, so I was able to do small tastings of 3 different ramen. Even though I brought her the spicy Sunmer version home, I still think it'll be worth bringing her and our daughter back when we get a chance to. I had also gotten the Strawberry Lemonade and was pleasantly surprised with their lil concoction. It was just some of their own stuff mixed into some soda, but still a nice a refreshing drink. Quite a yummy spot with a lot more options for us to choose from, so I'm looking forward to another visit! It was great to see that these different forms aren't just a gimmick and that they have some good flavors to them. They also have poke bowls, so that may also be on my list for next time!
