A fantastic meal. The finger plate appetizer has a sampling of their popular apps. Some crab Rangoon's, some egg rolls, some chicken egg rolls and potstickers. All of them were excellent. None overly greasy. Pad Thai: got it with shrimp. The shrimp were detailed which was nice. The noodles were so flavorful and had a nice serving of peanuts to add crunch. Pangnang Curry was also a hit. A little less thick than others I've had but possibly the best tasting. Served with a generous portion of rice, this is a dish I'd always get. We ended with mango sticky rice. Warm sticky rice with plenty of mango on the side and a sweet condensed milk sauce. The mangos were a little under ripe which made for a nice tangy contrast in some bites. The rice itself was amazing. Service was really great. The server was very attentive and friendly. I rarely leave negative reviews, but tonight's experience was genuinely upsetting and incredibly disrespectful. We had an 8:15 PM reservation and arrived only a few minutes late. The moment we walked in, the employee immediately rolled his eyes and rudely told us, "We close at 9," followed by, "Don't you think it's too late?" I was honestly shocked by how hostile and unwelcoming the interaction felt. There was no greeting, no professionalism, and absolutely no hospitality -- just attitude and visible annoyance that we had shown up at all. As customers, we should never be made to feel like a burden for arriving for a valid reservation. If the restaurant does not want guests coming in at that time, then those reservation slots should not be offered in the first place. What made this even more disappointing is that we had already struggled with trust issues here as vegetarians. On previous visits, we repeatedly asked for no fish sauce, no oyster sauce, and no meat, and staff consistently reassured us dishes could be made vegetarian. Later, another server and even the chef admitted several dishes actually could not be made vegetarian the way we had been told. So between the inconsistent handling of dietary restrictions and tonight's incredibly rude service, this experience completely ruined the restaurant for us. Chicago has too many amazing restaurants to spend money somewhere that makes customers feel unwelcome the second they walk through the door. We will not be returning. read more

We've been here twice and ordered at least the same entrees on both occasions - pad see ew (with beef) and duck curry. The pad see ew was fine on our first visit but absolutely awful on our second visit - virtually inedible. I've never had a bad pad see ew until now. We won't be back. I'm so happy to have finally found delicious Thai food! I really hope it's consistent as I've only tried it once but can't wait to eat here again. We got the Thai fried rice with shrimp. The shrimp was very fresh and the fried rice flavors were delicious! The biggest plus was that it wasn't sweet like most Thai restaurants. Also got the Pad Khee Mao which was also delicious! Since it was my first time, he asked about my favorite Thai dishes and personally recommended a couple of items. The chicken baby egg rolls were phenomenal--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done. This place is a must for Thai food. The interior is beautiful and I love the plants and decor around the restaurant. We got seated right away for a table of two. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable with the menu and quickly got our orders right away. Service overall was very fast and I always had my water cup refilled to the brim no matter what. The drinks were absolutely amazing and I recommend the Thai iced tea and the Oliang. Their crab rangoons are also one of my favorites! We were taken aback when we walked in and this place was a clean, well-organized bistro-ish vibe. But we were SO impressed with the food! With the pineapple and coconut milk, the flavors really meld to make this a winner. I wish the panang noodles had more noodles in it, but it was almost as good as the duck curry. This dish has large pieces of chicken, and the curry had nicely developed flavor with the right amount of spices. No trip to a Thai spot is complete without mango sticky rice. I love this dessert. We ordered Panang noodles, one beef Pad Si Ew, one chicken Pad Si Ew, and Pineapple Shrimp Curry, and Mango Sticky Rice. The curry sauce in the Panang noodles was delicious. My friends and I wish there were more noodles for that dish because the sauce was very yummy. The pad si ew for both were a little on the salty side. The curry for the pineapple shrimp was also good. The curry for that was more sweeter than the panang curry. The mango sticky rice was super good. The portion for that was big. They gave a lot of mango on the sticky rice. The color of the sticky rice was different from other Thai restaurant. The mangoes were very sweet. It was real good. The restaurant itself was not too big. It was a small and cute restaurant. The staff was very nice and attentive. When the restaurant got busy, there wasn't enough ventilation circulating because it was getting smoky. What a great group of staff who are constantly looking out for your needs. They have some very spicy dishes so if you like spicy it's great! But if you can't be careful to not order the ones w chili pepper icons bc even the mild one you ask to be not spicy was very spicy for me. They added fresh red chili peppers and tons of white pepper which were super spicy for me as I'm a lightweight to begin with. So maybe order items that don't have any spicy capacity :))) but even w my inability to handle spice where I asked them not to make it spicy at all, it still came out spicy. The staff worked with me and so did the chef. The only problem was they didn't tell us they were charging us $4.50 for the extra plain noodles to make it tolerable to eat. We only realized it after we got home when we took a second look at the receipt and it was disappointing. I just wish they told us in advance bc I would have just not eaten it and taken it home to add my own rice or noodles. The food flavors itself were very good. The Thai iced tea was fresh and tasted very good. I didn't care for the rice based dessert that much because it was too thick but that's personal preference. The ambience was beautiful with the little lights and the high-level area that is not part of the restaurant to be seated, but it's still beautiful to look at. Oliang is a somewhat hidden Thai restaurant off Ashland. They have a very small storefront, but the restaurant expands very far back. Once inside, you're greeted by greenery and artwork that transport you away from the streets of Chicago. The food itself is fantastic. I get a Panang curry pretty much everywhere I go and this is one of the best I've had to date. The presentation is also fantastic. The panang noodle special is one of my all time favorite dishes! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they stir fry the noodles before they pack them, with the sauce on top so I can mix it up when it gets here.
