Oliang - GAENG PHED PED TORD / Thai Crispy Duck Curry - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

A meal that exceeded expectations!! Walked in at 7 pm on a Thursday and were able to be seated immediately. We started off with drinks and ordered the Thai Iced Tea, Thai Iced Coffee, and Lychee Green Tea with popping boba - all so flavorful and refreshing, definitely order the Thai Iced Coffee if you appreciate coffee that's a bit on the stronger side. We ordered Oliang's signature Khao Soi with Tofu and it did not disappoint! I don't normally enjoy Khao Soi since I'm not a huge fan of food with a very strong curry powder flavor, but the flavor was so balanced and didn't feel overpowering at all. The surprise star dish for us all though was the Thai Fried Rice with Vegetables, which is some of the best fried rice I've ever had. Every bite was bursting with flavor, we couldn't get enough!! My friends also ordered the Red Curry with Chicken and Crab Rangoons and said those were great as well, but we all couldn't stop talking about the fried rice! Would recommend and will be coming back! read more

Came here for dinner around 5:30 and was able to get seated right away with no wait. The ambiance was really nice, especially with the string lights that gave the space a cozy feel. The only downside was that it was an extremely hot day and their air conditioner happened to be broken, so it got pretty warm inside. We ordered the roasted duck curry and the garlic and pepper rice with beef. The roasted duck curry was the standout. It was incredibly flavorful, and I almost inhaled all the rice with it. I love spicy food, and the spice level definitely delivered. The garlic and pepper rice with beef, though, was a bit disappointing. I didn't really taste much garlic or pepper, and the dish ended up leaning on the sweeter side. The vegetables were simply steamed, so they didn't add much flavor either. Overall, the whole dish felt a little flat. read more

A fantastic meal. The finger plate appetizer has a sampling of their popular apps. Some crab Rangoon's, some egg rolls, some chicken egg rolls and potstickers. All of them were excellent. None overly greasy. Pad Thai: got it with shrimp. The shrimp were detailed which was nice. The noodles were so flavorful and had a nice serving of peanuts to add crunch. Pangnang Curry was also a hit. A little less thick than others I've had but possibly the best tasting. Served with a generous portion of rice, this is a dish I'd always get. We ended with mango sticky rice. Warm sticky rice with plenty of mango on the side and a sweet condensed milk sauce. The mangos were a little under ripe which made for a nice tangy contrast in some bites. The rice itself was amazing. Service was really great. The server was very attentive and friendly. They were closing and he made sure to ask us if we wanted dessert before they closed the kitchen so he could place the order. Overall it was amazing, will be back soon read more

Got takeout from Oliang - food remained hot, portions were fair, and was still good the next day reheated. The panang curry wasnt that spicy, super rich and creamy, the noodles go well with it but I think rice would hit diff The pad kee mao was tasty and had a nice variety of toppings with spicy smoky kick to it. Overall i would return to both try a seated dining experience and to get a Thai fix in for a night read more

I've seen a few tik toks that claim Oliang has the best crab Rangoon. We were in the area so I had to check it out. -Parking can be rough, it's on Ashland and it's busy but there's street parking. -We were seated right away, the server was very friendly and the decor was super cute. I saw one other couple dining. Love all the plants. -Now the crab Rangoon.. very good. On the smaller side, tasted very fresh. I was getting a carrot taste, which I wasn't expecting. But it was good. You get 6 and to share it was prefect. The dipping sauce was very good. And they weren't greasy at all. -I ordered the Thai ice tea and it was very good and not overly sweet. My wife ordered this pineapple and mango boba tea and it was absolutely delicious. - I ordered a Pad Se woo to go. With combination of meat and wow there was so much meat. It was delicious. My wife ordered the Pad Thai, also packed with chicken, it was good. read more

Oliang - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I rarely leave negative reviews, but tonight's experience was genuinely upsetting and incredibly disrespectful. We had an 8:15 PM reservation and arrived only a few minutes late. The moment we walked in, the employee immediately rolled his eyes and rudely told us, "We close at 9," followed by, "Don't you think it's too late?" I was honestly shocked by how hostile and unwelcoming the interaction felt. There was no greeting, no professionalism, and absolutely no hospitality -- just attitude and visible annoyance that we had shown up at all. As customers, we should never be made to feel like a burden for arriving for a valid reservation. If the restaurant does not want guests coming in at that time, then those reservation slots should not be offered in the first place. What made this even more disappointing is that we had already struggled with trust issues here as vegetarians. On previous visits, we repeatedly asked for no fish sauce, no oyster sauce, and no meat, and staff consistently reassured us dishes could be made vegetarian. Later, another server and even the chef admitted several dishes actually could not be made vegetarian the way we had been told. So between the inconsistent handling of dietary restrictions and tonight's incredibly rude service, this experience completely ruined the restaurant for us. Chicago has too many amazing restaurants to spend money somewhere that makes customers feel unwelcome the second they walk through the door. We will not be returning. read more

Very good food and service! The curries and noodles are amazing and the drinks are very good as well! We loved their crab rangoons and other appetizers. Parking is so hard with the location on Ashland so be careful. Glad to see that a sister sushi restaurant opened downtown! The space inside and the ambiance are very nice. I'm glad they opted to drop the cafe portion of their restaurant (the coffee was not very good when I first went) and focused on the food. read more

I'm so happy to have finally found delicious Thai food! I really hope it's consistent as I've only tried it once but can't wait to eat here again. We got the Thai fried rice with shrimp. The shrimp was very fresh and the fried rice flavors were delicious! The biggest plus was that it wasn't sweet like most Thai restaurants. Also got the Pad Khee Mao which was also delicious! Again, not sweet!! I don't know why Thai restaurants make their food sugary sweet! Lastly we got the panang curry and even though this was a little sweet, it was delicious! read more

this hit the spot. Meat was tender which I wasn't rly expecting th. Chicken would've also prob been good. Broth was rly nice, spice blend felt fresh or at least more varied than other Thai places. Thai tea was solid and other dishes looked good. Hard to judge too much based on one dish but was a fan. Vibes were def more like yea this is a Thai place in Lincoln park not a hole in the wall but not mad at that. Still Thai enough to be valid and not too pricey. Great value, brought leftover curry broth home to make something. Would be back for mango sticky rice and the rest of the menu. read more

This place was absolutely amazing! Truly authentic Thai food with flavors that speak for themselves. The owner made the experience even better--he welcomed me like family from the moment I walked in. Since it was my first time, he asked about my favorite Thai dishes and personally recommended a couple of items. The chicken baby egg rolls were phenomenal--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done. Then he introduced me to a new dish they created: crispy wonton Pad Thai. Let me just say... I ate every single bite. It was fresh, unique, and incredibly satisfying--even with tofu (and I didn't even miss the chicken!). I will definitely be back again and again. Highly recommend! read more

Montana peach mocktail-a very sweet drink, let the ice melt a little to water down the sweetness Crab Rangoon-so good and fresh, not oily or greasy at all, fried to perfection and the perfect amount of filling, circular shape, a little more than a bite-size portion, comes with 6, sauce is light and not too sweet Steam pot stickers-steamed well Chicken pad si ew-taste like your regal pad si ew Beef pad kee mao-it's like a pad si ew but has a little bit of spiciness and more variety of veggies Basil fried rice-it has a kick to it, taste a little bit of the basil but not too much, the texture of the rice is sticky and chewy Chicken khao soi-my favorite dish, love the curry sauce, very flavorful, love the texture of the egg noodles and the crispy noodles Chicken Penang curry and chicken green curry-both served fresh and very hot (in temperature), creamy and very tasty All ingredients here are made fresh and the portions are great for sharing for a group of 7 people to try a variety of dishes at a decent price. Hello everyone, Today the fat boy & wifey went to have some Thai food. We heard about Oliang and decided to give them a try. It's very nice and cozy on the inside. Dimly lit, neutral natural colors. Two young ladies provided amazing service. They were attentive without being overly aggressive. Very down to earth young ladies. 9.5/10 I started with The Oliang. It's a Thai Iced Coffee. I love the sweet Iced Coffee it's up my alley. And this one was delicious. Just enough ice not to water it down. And the milk balanced the sweetness. I really liked it. 9/10 We ordered the Finger combo for an appetizer. It consisted of 3 homemade crab Rangoon, 4 crispy fingers (mini chicken egg rolls), 2 crispy rolls (vegetable egg rolls), 3 pork pot stickers (fried)? The crab Rangoon were my favorite. It pairs so well with the sauce that comes with it. A sweet & cheesy savory treat. The rolls were decent not bad. The pot stickers were my wife's favorite. They had a very good flavor. Delicious. The menu had steamed but they came fried? Great for me, the wifey wanted steamed. 8.6/10 Crab Rangoon, crispy rolls 5/10, crispy fingers 6.5/10, pot stickers 8/10 We both had the Basil fried rice. The wife had shrimp added. I had a combination of shrimp, chicken and steak. It's a medium heat dish but I had extra Thai chili added. And the spice did not disappoint! The dish was full of flavor for sure. And it's a huge portion and they don't skimp on the protein!! For me the rice was a little bit wet. and slightly overcooked for the wifey's liking. But I won't hold that against them. Although my wife's dish seemed spicer than mine did. And I'm the one who asked for extra heat not my wife. The basil fried rice: 7.7/10 The experience was great, food was good enough for another visit. 8.8/10 overall Remember ALL reviews are subjective read more

Did a takeout order here and while food was pretty good, there were a few misses. Had their Kao Soy - good overall but when I opened the bag there were a small amount of noodles, so I called thinking I could pick up a bit more was told $4 up charge (after paying $20 with my protein), Pad Thai was ok. And we got Crab rangoons - no sauce in the bag. I'd go to Cozy's in Wrigleyville where they know how to treat their customers. $60 take out tab w tip ... and they want $4 for noodles? was told they had others complain but its portion controlled?? Really, others only charge $1 for extra rice. read more

We were a bit curious about this place because somehow we've convinced ourselves that ethnic food is only authentic when it's served in messy, chaotic environments. We were taken aback when we walked in and this place was a clean, well-organized bistro-ish vibe. But we were SO impressed with the food! The spring rolls, curry, and everything my husband ordered too. I've been waiting to get back here though it's somewhat out of the way for me. The only one drawback is that tables are really close together - NYC style - so conversations are hard to keep private or focused. But on the flip side of that, we had a couple of a date next to us and there's no way you're not overheating as much as you may try not to. So that can be fun, I guess? read more

Wonderful Thai food, friendly service. Sil definitely be back here. I've subsequently had take out, which was also wonderful

Oliang has a nice ambiance, good service, and the food is cooked fresh to order. I love the lighting and outdoor feel I get in here. You'll see the kitchen hard at work as you walk in and get seated. Oliang has some fun non-alcoholic drinks along with some boba, and you'll want to try these Asian cocktails. They go well with the menu, which has some different items compared to your typical Thai restaurant. I had the duck curry and panang noodles and finished with mango sticky rice. The duck curry was the real star of the show. The duck skin was crispy and the meat was tender and had the right amount of chew in every bite. With the pineapple and coconut milk, the flavors really meld to make this a winner. I wish the panang noodles had more noodles in it, but it was almost as good as the duck curry. This dish has large pieces of chicken, and the curry had nicely developed flavor with the right amount of spices. No trip to a Thai spot is complete without mango sticky rice. I love this dessert. Mangos are in season, and the sticky rice with that coconut milk is to die for. Don't leave without ordering this! read more

One of my favorite Thai spots in chicago! Their drinks are very good too. I love their noodles dishes.

We came here on a Friday night. It wasn't too busy. There were still empty tables. We ordered Panang noodles, one beef Pad Si Ew, one chicken Pad Si Ew, and Pineapple Shrimp Curry, and Mango Sticky Rice. The curry sauce in the Panang noodles was delicious. My friends and I wish there were more noodles for that dish because the sauce was very yummy. The pad si ew for both were a little on the salty side. The curry for the pineapple shrimp was also good. The curry for that was more sweeter than the panang curry. The mango sticky rice was super good. The portion for that was big. They gave a lot of mango on the sticky rice. The color of the sticky rice was different from other Thai restaurant. The mangoes were very sweet. It was real good. The restaurant itself was not too big. It was a small and cute restaurant. The staff was very nice and attentive. When the restaurant got busy, there wasn't enough ventilation circulating because it was getting smoky. My friends and I were coughing a little bit due to the smell of it. read more

What a great group of staff who are constantly looking out for your needs. They have some very spicy dishes so if you like spicy it's great! But if you can't be careful to not order the ones w chili pepper icons bc even the mild one you ask to be not spicy was very spicy for me. They added fresh red chili peppers and tons of white pepper which were super spicy for me as I'm a lightweight to begin with. So maybe order items that don't have any spicy capacity :))) but even w my inability to handle spice where I asked them not to make it spicy at all, it still came out spicy. The staff worked with me and so did the chef. The only problem was they didn't tell us they were charging us $4.50 for the extra plain noodles to make it tolerable to eat. We only realized it after we got home when we took a second look at the receipt and it was disappointing. I just wish they told us in advance bc I would have just not eaten it and taken it home to add my own rice or noodles. The food flavors itself were very good. The Thai iced tea was fresh and tasted very good. I didn't care for the rice based dessert that much because it was too thick but that's personal preference. The ambience was beautiful with the little lights and the high-level area that is not part of the restaurant to be seated, but it's still beautiful to look at. There is free parking on the street at night if you go around the corner. read more

Oliang is a somewhat hidden Thai restaurant off Ashland. They have a very small storefront, but the restaurant expands very far back. Once inside, you're greeted by greenery and artwork that transport you away from the streets of Chicago. The food itself is fantastic. Beautiful interior, delicious food, attentive staff, and fast service. We dined in on a Sunday afternoon and very much enjoyed our experience. We started with the Finger Combo. I tried the crab rangoon and crispy rolls which I thoroughly enjoyed. The only note I have is that it comes with a tiny cup of sweet and sour sauce. The dish could definitely use a bigger serving of sauce to complement all the yummy fried finger foods! The pineapple shrimp curry was perfectly sweet and creamy with a hearty helping of rice.
