Hands down my favorite sandwich in the city right now is the Viet Dip! This take on a beef sandwich is pack with flavor on its own but you dip it in the pho broth and HOMYGAWWWWWD!!! The place literally looks like a bodega inside with a variety of international offerings. They had limited seating. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. First time trying Vietnamese food and so glad Phodega was my first. Awesome food. Great service. Very cool atmosphere. I started out with the salt and pepper chicken skins. So crispy and delicious. The sauce on the side is very spicy but a good accompaniment to cut the decadence of the chicken skins. I also got the Viet Dip which was amazing. The beef was tender and flavorful. The bread was pillowy soft and the Pho broth was awesome to dip the sandwich in. My wife got the Pho Bo and couldn't stop talking about how great it was. I sure do love me some phodega! The food is always so delicious, the cooks are always so nice and the environment is always a welcome. The parking isn't the best because there is never no parking lol you have to go on a hunt and you have to pay or you'll get you a ticket. I must say the past few times I have gone have been a bit different, the flavor in the soups aren't the same as I'm used too, it's a lot more bland and it usually taste like someones grandmother is putting her elbows to work in the kitchen. I went on a Saturday so it was quite busy and you should be mindful that the space is small so if your alone like I went you might be put in the middle or a weird area . Overall the place was great but there couple disappointing factors. Pho Bo had really instant like taste with no real flavor in the broth. The noodles also tasted like microwaved with flappy/spoiled consistency. Meat in the pho was also very dry and chewy, which made it difficult to eat. I would not come back for their pho but I would get the pho chicken if I had to choose because they seem to be better with chicken. Only come for pho here if you are in a rush and have to fill your pho craving. Otherwise, I would go to other pho places near by. They were also out of bean sprouts and Siracha sauce so that was a bit disappointing too. Surprisingly, the chicken skin was really impressive with nice crisp and flavor. It's pretty much like chicarron but chicken instead. Ambiance of this place is fun with bodega setting and intimate seatings. Service was amazing with attentive staff so I really appreciated that. I gave a 3 star because I would like them to step up their pho game and actually live up to the restaurant's name. If they can improve their pho significantly, this would be an excellent restaurant. Friendly service, clean interior. Maybe fits 15-20 people at capacity. Their beef pho is so good. Food gets served pretty quickly so it's an easy place to stop by casually. I love their pho bo too much I order it all the time from uber eats since it is more convenient to me ordering that way. I also tried their dipping banh mi, but to be honest it was my least favorite. the thing i love most about Phodega is that they use the thick/fat pho noodles. it is similar to what I had growing up in Saigon in the 2000s. in America pho noodles is more like hu tieu noodles to me. of course in Saigon the noodles were thinner (fat but thin) because it was fresh noodles, here it's more like semi-fresh. like the type in fridge section label "fresh rice (pad thai) noodles. their pho bo is 4.5* for me. I add an poached egg at home since that's how I like my pho with. can be a foreign concept to other people. i just had pho ga today. usually i'm not a big fan of pho ga, but i was surprised to smell a light sesame oil fragrant. usually that smell is for hainanese chicken rice and/or to me it does not belong to pho ga. also there is a missing note of la chanh (lime leaf) for me. maybe it's just me. and the soft boiled egg didn't add much flavor. usually in Vietnam there is trứng non or nothing else. the dipping banh mi was, too salty for my liking, esp the dipping broth. i ordered it to try only, i won't order it again read more

This is my first time to be here, being recommended by my friends for places to eat in Chicago. When arriving, we were greeted with welcomes and lots of hospitality. The service is quick. I really like my pho ga's beef broth. I have been to many of pho restaurants. This one you can taste they used long time and effort to make the broth and the beef broth is favorable. I haven't tried their pho yet (very partial to Tank Noodle) but had their combination chicken rice. Combination Chicken Rice (4/5): The Hainan Chicken portion I'd rate 3 out of 5 as it wasn't as flavorful as I was hoping it to be, though it's au jus on the rice was pretty tasty. I tried Phodega this aftewrnoon. First, I didn't care for their rap music and it was louder than average level. It seemed out of place in an Asian restaurant. I ordered the Pho Bo that had a lot of ingredients but the broth looked more like chicken broth not dark like beef broth. They do have courtesy water on the side if you like. As a Vietnamese foodie all I have to say is well done! This is how pho and ban mi are suppose to be. Most people don't know this but this noodles is accurate one. The both wasn't overly salty and perfect with dipping the ban mi in. Out of all my years in countless states the ban mi here is by far the best ban mi I ever had. Phodega is a really fun concept - small Pho store with a (presumably) functioning convenience store decor although I've never seen anyone try to buy something off the shelf. Design concept is cute but very kitschy. The menu was fairly limited with 2 pho options (beef and chicken) as well as hainan chicken rice. Going along with the convenience store vibe they also have a few other menu items like pizza puffs, fruit smoothies, ramen (but the instant packaged kind ?) and an ice cream / drinks cooler with prepackaged deserts like canned Royal milk tea and mochi ice cream. There isn't anywhere selling pho or hainan chicken rice in the area, so it's definitely an exciting addition to the local food options. Pho - portion size is a bit small relative to cost, but pretty tasty. Both of the pho broths were pretty salt forward without a ton of meatiness. I thought the pho chicken broth was the better of the two, and the beef broth lacked a ton of beefy flavor. They use the wider rice noodles in the pho (most pho places use the thinner noodles) which held up more substantively in the broth. Hainan chicken rice - was really excited about this since it's harder to find in the area, but feel pretty flat. Hainan chicken is supposed to be intensely flavorful - this one came off as fairly bland although the chicken was extremely tender. No skin at all on the chicken (they also have a fried chicken skin on the menu, maybe that's where it goes) which really contributed to the blandness. Found myself dousing it in hoisin sauce. Really fun and delicious spot to grab a wonderful bite. The staff are very polite and diverse, with great menu knowledge. Really mellow space thats reflective of the name with a blend of Latin and hip-hop songs playing while eating. We had beef pho and pork belly Banh mi. The pho broth was incredibly silky and rich, and a good serving size for its price. The Banh mi was not my all time favorite but for a baseline it was perfectly made, would love to try the specials next time I go over. This was literally right next to the hotel we were staying out, so it was SUPER convenient. But not only that, the food here is AWESOME. We went here twice during our stay in Chicago, and both times really hit the spot. The first time I ordered the Chicken Rice Combination. The second time we came here, I ordered the Viet Dip. The ribeye meat was soooo good. The bread was super soft on the inside, but had that nice crunch on the outside. And when you dip it in the broth...YUM. This was really tasty. My bf got the pho ga (chicken pho) twice here and he really likes it. He also really love the ube cookies they sell here. So until today, my favorite sandwich in the world was a real Italian beef sandwich. Very simple sandwich of marinated beef, a great soft roll, and hot giardiniera peppers. Today, I found a sandwich that's better. Very similar to an Italian beef, but in their own way just a fabulous sandwich. The beef is very similar, but they have a sauce with jalapeños, and the bun is a Bahn mei bun that is soft on the inside, slightly crunchy on the outside, and because it's not a lot of bread, it makes everything on the inside really shine. The quirky thing about a great Italian beef sandwich is the role is so wet that the bun falls apart. But this bun after you dip, it doesn't fall apart, and every bite is a slice of heaven. The people behind the counter are friendly and helpful. They have several sauces, and when I asked which would be best, they even brought out a few more from behind the counter. Highly recommend. Came here for a lunch before a concert nearby. Such a cute little shop. Very homey and somewhere I'd like to wander in on a cold winter day. We got the spicy chicken banh mi, beef pho, chicken pho, hainanese chicken, and a vietnamese coffee. The food gives such a comfortable and warm vibe. I got a little overzealous and ordered two entrees. When I looked online at the dishes, I didn't think the portions would be so much! The hainanese chicken and the chicken pho was so tender. The hainanese chicken comes with soup that is so light and flavorful. The broth for the phos were both so flavorful without even having to add anything and the noodles were on the wider side but just as good as the thinner pho noodles. They definitely give you your money's worth for the pho bowls. The Vietnamese coffee comes in this little bottle - I was worried it would be too sweet but it was honestly perfect and I was happy to be able to close it up and leave with it since I was so full. The banh mi was great. Like I said, they definitely give you your money's worth. The chicken was slapped on there thicc and it almost feels like they hollow out the bread because you don't get overwhelmed with bread. Next time, I'll order in moderation. The Viet Dip here so good that I'm very seriously considering moving out here from CA! A coworker of mine sent me this place on instagram and I made a note to stop by the next time I was in Chicago. OMGGGGGGG! I came in and it wasn't busy at all around 1:30 and was greeted right away, the guy at the register recommended the shrimp egg rolls and I already knew I was going to get the Viet dip and I got a Vietnamese coffee to wash it all down. The shrimp egg rolls are suuuper delicious and come with sweet and sour to dip. On to the Viet Dip, a banh mi sandwich on the most amazing buttery roll served with pho jus dip. Basically a Vietnamese French dip. When I tell you a took a bite and I'm pretty sure it's what Squidward felt like when he first tried a Krabby Patty, like LIFE-CHANGING!
