Visited Rui's Shanghai Bistro on a Sunday around 1 PM and overall had a really good experience…read more We started with the soup dumplings (xiao long bao). The flavor was good and I enjoyed them, but unfortunately they were missing one of my favorite parts of xiao long bao. The soup. There was very little to no broth inside. The braised beef noodle soup was easily my favorite dish. The broth was flavorful, the beef was tender, and it came out at the perfect temperature. My only complaint was the noodles themselves. They were pretty tangled and clumped together, almost like they had been sitting refrigerated before being added to the broth. Once separated, though, I really enjoyed the dish. We also ordered the sliced beef with hot peppers. The beef had good flavor, but I thought the sauce was a little too dry for my preference. And when they say hot peppers, they mean it, there were A LOT of jalapeños. There was also a small wait between receiving the noodle soup and the rest of our entrées, so the timing could have been a little better. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, plenty of space, and is conveniently located near Downtown Redlands. Overall, I'm glad to see a place serving good Shanghai style Chinese food in an area where there aren't a ton of options like this. Definitely a place I'd come back to and try more of the menu. 7/10

Hello! The host was so kind and so was the server…read more I am very disappointed with how understaffed this restaurant is. It's been a consistent theme every time I've come. The workers here are clearly doing their absolute best in the situation they've been handed and it is difficult to watch only two people managing a full house with a waitlist with multiple parties. Please hire two more servers - 4 servers would be incredible it would improve the dining experience exponentially. I don't even have anything substantial to say about the food because the wait was so astounding. I want to clarify these workers should NOT be pushed to move any faster than they are. The issue is the lack of staffing and should be resolved as such. Thank You Addendum: The food was very good and we were all very satisfied with the flavor - this restaurant would be on my regular rotation if the staffing was resolved.

Almost four years later and this is my favorite overall restaurant in the Redlands area…read more I mean I love me the fantastic THREE STAGS IRISH PUB, but in my heart of hearts fresh made dumplings beat fresh made fish and chips any day of the week. And OMB is more vegetarian friendly. This isn't a Chinese restaurant with a thousand dishes ranging in quality. This is curated collection of classics done right: Cantonese dim sum, Shanghainese soup dumplings, and popular Chinese comfort foods. All the dumplings are made fresh. I see some reviewers suggesting they've had better elsewhere, but those elsewheres are over an hour away. I know those places and they're not worth the drive or the higher prices. There's a reason new locations of this restaurant are opening up left and right in the IE. Yucaipa just got one and they're opening another in Palm Springs in an impressive 'in the middle of everything' location. The only shortcoming of this location is it's a tad too informal for my taste. Like it's more a well lit room than a cozy area you might lounge in. However, that shortcoming is rather common in the IE where I wonder if a place looks a little posh the customers turn and run. The staff is great, the service prompt (even when busy), the boba drinks are delightful -- what's not to love? I'm certain that almost anyone who comes here will likely return. I just went yesterday and a rainbow appeared above ONE MORE BITE DUMPLING. Exactly how I feel about this place.
